Beginning of Chapter 6
The third period didn't bring me any type of joy. We just talked about the anatomy of a whale, which I already knew. My teacher, at the beginning of class, handed everybody a sheet of paper with a picture of a blue whale. Remarkable creation. Big, yet gentile. She wanted us to listen to her explain what the parts of the whale do, but I wrote down the names as fast as I could so that I could go to sleep. And that I did, fell asleep five minutes into the lesson.
She didn't even bother me when I was asleep. I figured that she had seen the work that I had done. Not that big of a deal, but it surprised me. Most teachers would wake up their students. Maybe she's the type of person to understand that we need sleep. I appreciated that of her.
When the bell rang, I jolted up. Then I realized what I was about to do. Annabeth and I are leaving school early. I have no clue what we're doing, or who we're bringing. I think that bringing a couple of her friends would be a good idea. Who knows, maybe we'll become inseparable.
I got up from my chair and walked out of the classroom. Walking down the hall I saw Piper.
"Hey, Piper!" I shouted so that I'd be able to get her attention.
"Hey, Percy! How are you?" She replied, happily.
"I'm well, thank you," I said on my way to tell her what I had stopped her for, "what class do you have next?"
"I have a free block, why do you ask?"
"Annabeth and I are leaving the promises, and I was wondering if you would like to join?"
She gave me a look that told me that she was surprised by my offer, almost as if she didn't expect me to ask her this kind of question. I just hoped that she would take the offer because I wanted to make friends at this school.
At the other school, I attended I was considered the "ugly duckling," that was until I hit puberty. Now, whenever I walk into a room people often ask me how I look this way. Now they imply that a 16-year-old has some sort of plastic surgery. Nope, this is all-natural.
"Yeah, I'd love to join you and Annabeth on whatever adventure you've planned," she replied with a massive smile on her face. I was just glad that she didn't say no.
"Alrighty! Text anybody else you think would like to join," I told her, "and meet us at the parking lot in five minutes."
"Okay, see you then," she replied. She waved goodbye as we walked towards our lockers. Mine was on the other side of the school, so I had a grand distance to walk.
Once I got to my locker, I placed whatever books I need for homework in my bag. As if I'll even do it. I also grabbed my wallet in case we decided we got coffee, my ray bans, and my phone.
I signed out at the office telling them that I was leaving then walked out the front doors. There stood the beautiful, Annabeth Chase. No one else had shown up yet, but I knew that they would.
"Hey, stranger!" I smiled at Annabeth's hello. It comforts me that we have a greeting that most people don't have. Although, some people do have that same greeting as us.
The first person to walk out the front door was Jason Grace, Piper's boyfriend. I never really noticed his features before. He was honestly a beautiful man. He was also smart, which is a plus for Piper. People started walking out of the school one by one, slowly, but surely.
Once everyone was accounted for, I called everyone into a circle. "I gathered you here for this adventure that we'll remember for a lifetime. I know you all have just met me, but trust me, I rarely lie to people I like."
"You like us," Leo said in a mocking type way, but I ignored it so that I wouldn't lose my train of thought.
"Back to what I was saying, let's have some fun!" I put this into everybody's mind so that they'd have the same amount of passion about this adventure as I did.
"To Starbucks, we go," Piper exclaimed to the rest of us. And I honestly didn't mind that she had said that. I haven't had my daily coffee yet, and I could feel it.
I laughed at Piper's statement as we climbed into two cars; mine and Jason's. It took us about five minutes to drive to the nearest Starbuck, but let me tell you, all of us girls jumped out of both cars so that we could get our coffee fix. What can I say, girls, sure do love their coffee?
I got my usual, Nitro cold brew with sweet cream, and I also bought Annabeth's order, which was a vanilla bean frappe with a pump of raspberry. Her and those frappucinos, I swear. I took a sip of her drink wondering what it could taste like, and I was surprised at the result. It's amazing. It also tastes super familiar, but I can't quite place the taste.
Once everyone had their drinks, we all headed back to the cars. Since I had no clue as to where we were going, I allowed Jason to lead us around San Fransisco, since I still have no clue as to where everything is.
We drove for an estimate of twenty minutes to a place I didn't recognize. It looked like a park, and there was an ice cream shop across the street. I think I found the place I'll take Annabeth to on your first date if I ever find the courage to ask her.
We got out of our cars and headed into the ice cream shop. I go rainbow sherbet, Annabeth got raspberry cheesecake, Piper got chocolate peanut butter, Jason got Dutch chocolate, Leo got cookie dough, Hazel got cookies and cream and Frank got Tiger tail.
We walked to the field that was by the park and sat in a circle.
"So?" I asked, "What do you guys want to do?"
"How about Truth or Dare," Hazel said, "that way we'll get to know Miss Persephone here."
I cringed at the name she said, but I still thought that it was a good idea. And I know she only said my while name so that her sentence sounded more sophisticated.
"I think that's a good idea," Annabeth said smiling at me. I swear that if she gives me that smile to me one more time, I'm going to kiss her.
"Who's first?" I asked, wanting to get this game started.
"Hazel," Piper started, "Truth or Dare?"
Hazel looked nervous at the moment, but bravely answered with a "Dare!"
"Call the closest 7-Eleven and ask if they're open." Hazel smiled at that dare. It was a good dare, and it only embarrasses her for a few moments.
Hazel picked up her phone, dialled the number, then said, "Good afternoon kind sir. I was wondering if you were opened today?" There was a brief pause before she said, "Thank you for your time!" She finished the dare with a sigh of relief.
"Ok," Hazel said, "Percy, Truth or Dare?"
"Truth," I replied.
"Who do you currently have a crush on?" She asked me.
I blushed. I don't feel like telling them who I like because I need to get to know her better first. I need to get to know Annabeth first.
"If you're talking celebrity crush, then Ruby Rose, but if you're asking about if I like someone, then nobody at the moment."
"That blush told me otherwise, but alright," Hazel said.
We played the game for a couple of hours before deciding to head home. It was around five-thirty, so I'm sure my mom is worried about me a little bit.
When I walked into the apartment we are living in, my mom asked me, "How was your day?"
I'm not like most teenagers who don't tell their parents anything. I tell my mom everything. She's the only person I feel that I'm able to do that with. "It was really good! Annabeth and I took a bunch of her friends to a nearby park and played Truth or Dare."
"That sounds fun," she said, "and I'm happy that you are making friends."
"I am too, Mom."
My mom told me that dinner was going to be in a half-hour, so I was able to go to my room and watch YouTube until it was ready. The video I decided to watch was a ghost hunting video by two friends named Sam and Colby. I watched them for a couple of minutes before realizing that they are overrated.
Mom called me down for dinner and she makes the best food, so I was excited. For the smell in the air, I think she made spaghetti and meatballs. Delicious!
We didn't speak much during dinner, except for the "How was school" question that's asked every night at dinner. By the time we were finished, it was around six o'clock. I decided that I wanted to binge-watch the entire first season of The Umbrella Academy since the next season will be released soon.
By the time I finished the season, it is one-thirty. I knew at that time and at that time alone, it was time for bed. I climbed into bed with a smile on my face from the wonderful day I had had.
