-One Year Later-
The cold wind whipped her hair about. Some strands stuck to her forehead while others got stuck in her eyes but she had no time to move them. The unstable ground beneath her wouldn't allow for it. If she was to move one hand away she'd fall. Even if she misplaced her foot by an inch, she'd fall.
Not a good idea to go climbing today, huh? Should have stayed home... Should have stayed home...
Lex's hand slipped as her phone rang for the thousandth time. Breathing heavily, she tried to get a grip on the unstable snow. It gave way with a deafening crack.
Her breath caught short. Heart stopped. Eyes wide. Hands frozen.
The cliffside hung 300 feet from the next ledge. Surviving the fall would be impossible and even if she miraculously did, she doubted she'd be able to crawl to safety. Not even be able to call for help.
For a moment, only the biting cold air registered before a burning started in her wrist. A fierce heat pierced her skin as she jolted forward. The snow slid across her jacket before she finally stopped a few feet from the edge.
No longer falling.
Looking above her and expecting to see someone, an unsettling feeling fixed in her gut at the sight of emptiness. Only snow flurries surrounded her, being pushed around by the bullying wind.
Adrenaline pumped through her veins, the steady beat of her heart accelerated as fear clouded her mind.
It can't possibly be...
That fear vanished as the cloak crackled to life before disappearing. The figure stood tall and proud, towering feet above her. Built on pure, massive muscles, the one and only alien stood.
"Scar?"
A rumbling purr sounded as he bent down to be eye level with her. His armor seemed rougher, more defined since the last time she had seen it. More scratches, but thicker metal with designs hidden just below. Faint but present.
"Lex," deep and commanding but comforting and warm at the same time, his voice rumbled out.
"What are you doing here?" He cocked his head and typed a few things in his gauntlet.
After a moment of growling and clicks, he finally sat across from Lex. She waited, watching him with nervous curiosity. Then, he waved awkwardly.
Laughing, Lex waved back, "hi."
Scar typed something into his gauntlet, looking at her and then at the words on his screen. He stood, offering her a hand and when she accepted, dragged her off.
Digging in her heels, Lex pulled them to a halt.
"Whoa! Whoa! Whatcha doin'?"
Tilting his head, he innocently pointed off towards the other side of the summit as if his intent should have been obvious. Then he tugged again like a little kid. Not too hard, just enough to catch her attention.
Shrugging, Lex reluctantly followed. Soon they reached the other side where another steep drop met them. Tugging her onward, he led them down.
Scar insisted that she climb on his back for their journey down and once again, Lex reluctantly agreed. There was a nice cave not too far the edge, just a good hundred feet. Once inside, Lex could see his equipment neatly scattered about and the leftovers of a fire.
Gently, she set her own stuff by the entrance and followed him in deeper. Animal furs hung up on wires to dry and skulls were piled neatly in a corner, already clean. The stench of blood being strong near the "gutting area", Lex made sure to stay by the smell of dying embers.
"This is your kind of camping area?"
He nodded.
"What are you doing here other than obviously hunting?"
Scar stopped. He had been bending over trying to find something when she had asked the question. Not wanting to ignore her, but still wanting to continue his search, he stood, glanced back at his belongings and then looked to her. After a moment more of indecision, he pointed to the pile and returned to searching.
Like a child... Cute.
Scar then pointed at Lex then pointed back at his weapons.
"You wanted to show me your equipment?"
He shook his head 'no' before pointing at her and then again at his weapons.
"You want to give me weapons?" Lex's shoulders slumped, trying to figure out what he wanted to say as he growled low in his throat.
Scar paced for a while before pointing to Lex.
"Okay so me..."
Then he pointed to the weapons.
"Me and the weapons..."
Then he pointed to himself.
"Me and the weapons plus Scar..."
Then he pointed lastly to the skins and skulls.
"You want me to come with you and hunt?!" Scar crossed his arms and nodded. "You could have just said so." Lex laughed, dodging the swipe of his hand as he growled.
