"So what exactly are we hunting?"
Scar and Lex were sitting in the bush completely hidden from any animals grazing in the nearby field. He lent some weapons for Lex to use on this hunt, helping to arm her up before they left the cave.
He tried to explain exactly what he wanted to hunt. He drew a picture, tried to show with his hands, anything to explain, but Lex only blankly stared at him. Finally, he just popped the image on his gauntlet.
"That's a grizzly bear." He nodded.
A young-looking male bear entered the field, scaring off most of the other creatures. It just meant to cross on by, most likely heading for the river, but the duo had other plans. Scar charged out taking most of the bear's attention and allowing Lex to flank it. Once in striking range, Lex took her spear and rammed it into the bear's hind leg.
It turned on her, rearing up in its panic and pain, but Lex rolled away. Scar finished the kill with a death blow to the heart it exposed in that brief moment.
"I ain't carrying it, big man..." Lex crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow as he pointed to the still form.
Scar huffed and grabbed the bear by the neck. He dragged it back up the mountain to his camp and Lex trailed behind, not entirely sure how she felt by the whole hunting experience.
Checking her watch, Lex cringed, "looks like I need to head off. I'll have to see you later."
Scar nodded, a bit disappointed at her quick departure. Lex grabbed her stuff, leaving the weapons behind, and with heavy steps left back down the mountain. Once she reached the town at the bottom, she got her cab and headed home.
It was a month later when Scar showed up at her little hidden oasis. Lex had been relaxing on her deck, just letting the sunshine warm her when a dark shadow fell over her.
Lex kept calm. Her hand, which was hanging off the chair, gripped the gun underneath to be prepared. When she opened her eyes, she brought the gun up to fire.
The predator before her clicked with laughter at the little weapon she "threatened" him with.
"It may not kill you but it'll still hurt, won't it?" Scar sobered quickly. "That's what I thought."
Scar clicked about before pointing to her, then him, and lastly the woods.
"You want to take a walk in the woods with me?" Scar nodded. "I supposed we could." She got up from her chair, placing the gun back in its spot, and followed him.
"Why'd you come here? How'd you even know where I lived?" Scar pointed off into the distance and began to form something in his hands. "You found me using your ship?" Scar nodded vigorously. "Alright... Where are we going?"
Again, Scar formed the same shape with his hands. They were heading to his ship.
When they finally arrived, the field stood empty. Extremely empty as the creatures wisely avoided what they could not properly see.
With a few buttons from his gauntlet, the ship's cloak vanished. The ship itself was of medium size. It wasn't like a pod but perhaps could be compared to a sailing boat.
The ramp came down and the two boarded. There was a light fog that surrounded Lex's ankles and the humid air already dampened Lex's clothes.
"Damn, it's hot in here.." Scar clicked in amusement before slowly pushing Lex forward.
The ramp came up and the door closed behind him. The only real light came from the light glow of the walls. A mixture of reds, blues, and purples. Pulsating with a fake life.
Lex stopped to trace her hand on the patterns it formed. Fascinated.
Scar waited until finished, mostly amused at her for being so caught up in something so ordinary for him. He led her to the kitchen where he ate some sort of meat but Lex politely refused a bite and opted to look around instead.
Suddenly, a few more predators entered. They stopped in their tracks as they spotted the new guest.
One, angered by her unwelcomed presence, roared and began to throw things about the place.
Lex jumped from the sudden aggression, diving as pots and tools flew at her head with deadly precision. She figured not everyone she would come across in her lifetime, human or alien, would always be the most friendly and politest of creatures. Of course, she did expect some sort of diplomacy when dealing with potential clients.
Encountering aliens she supposed didn't require any sort of diplomacy.
She continued to dodge, ducking behind Scar for a breather before he too had to move lest he get hit. The projectiles kept coming and in a last-minute effort, Lex grabbed a fallen pot and chucked it. Her weapon of choice smacked into the predator's arm and Scar hollered from where he crouched on the floor.
The other two stood by the door and watched. Possibly annoyed. Possibly amused.
Finally, the shorter one of the group came forward and caught the pan-like object that would have hit Lex in the face. He spoke to the rest of them and everything settled down. She merely backed away, hands raised in surrender as the aggressive predator continued to snarl.
Once they cleaned up the mess, Lex retook her seat, now in between Scar and the calm, short predator. She took the time to inspect them, already noting their obvious differences in skin color.
The shorter one had reddish hues that made his gray skin almost glow. It almost looked like molten lava cooling.
Molten... I'll call him Molten for now.
The predator across from her who had been offended more or less by her presence had more of a jungle tone to him. His skin blended the colors of green and brown, making him an early palette.
Jungle Man would be so original. Miana would be proud. Jaguar comes to mind too. Maybe Jag for short?
The last predator ate his food in silence, ignoring the childish fight and her entirely. His skin greatly differed from the rest and stuck out like a sore thumb compared to everyone's dark or earthy tones.
Scar even had a green and gray mix about him and, from what she remembers, Celtic, though had more green than Scar, had the same green and gray mix too. Probably because they were related.
This predator had pitch black skin all around him except for the dark, blue hues around his eyes and mandibles.
Night... He reminds me of the night.
The predators talked among themselves after minutes of awkward silence. Their favorite topic seemed to revolve around Lex. The uncomfortable air in the room heightened when Jag began to growl and it looked like he was ready to reach across and strangle Scar.
Casually, Lex checked her watch, not wanting to seem in a rush. It was almost seven and that meant that the sun would be going down. If she didn't make it back before nightfall, she could end up spending needless hours look for her house. She may be good at survival and mountain climbing, but that didn't mean she could navigate the dark without a flashlight.
Besides, the season premiere came on at nine and she'd be damned if she missed it.
Nudging Scar lightly, Lex pointed to her watch to let him know she needed to go. Scar slumped his shoulders before growling at Jag. He escorted her out, a hunk of meat still in one hand.
When the cool air hit her skin, Lex breathed freely.
"Good God, it's like a sauna in there. I can't go back in there without fear of a heat stroke." Lex went to wipe some precipitation off her forehead when Scar's hand beat her to it. "Thanks." Lex smiled at him.
The door to the ship reopened causing Lex to jump. Another predator joined them outside, the newly named Night of the group.
"He's coming with us?"
Scar nodded.
Lex turned to address Night.
"Um... Okay, but I'm not sure what to call you so can I give you a nickname? It'd be easier for me." Night turned to Scar for explanation and Scar explained exactly what Lex wanted.
Night nodded.
"Okay cool. Not sure if you know, but I'm Lex and I'll just call you Night. Cool?" Night nodded again and pronounced Lex's name to see if he could.
"Lax...L-Leax... Lex." His attempt, while a bit butchered, made her smile.
"Awesome." She began to step back towards the woods. "Let's go cause I'm going to miss my show."
They all headed back through the woods. Once they reached her house, Lex said goodnight and they in turn waved.
Once safely inside, Lex sat at her computer, not yet heading to the living room for her show. She began to write a message.
Dear Miana,
I realize it's been a while but-
Lex quickly stopped writing and deleted everything.
"Tomorrow. I'll try to write tomorrow..."

08/14/19: I'm about to kill something. I used to be able to copy and past from my doc to FF and it would keep everything bolded and stuff. Now, I have to go through it all by hand.
