Chikara Kurabe. An early system of Japanese fighting. Fight. Chikara Kurabe.
Yuatja filled the room to the max, Elder K'ash, Scar, Jag, Night, and Molten apart of the crowd. The Elder pulled her aside to explain the trial.
"Lizten ooman, you will need to follow the orderz of the inztruketor. Ver'ick'a will let you know woat you are to perform. Alzo, you will need to pazz a tezt run zo we underztand toat you know woat you are doing. Clear?"
"Sei-i." The Elder tensed at the familiar words pouring from her lips but appreciation filled his eyes.
Bonus points.
Lex bowed her head as he walked back to the stand. She stood on one side of the large simulation room. Green target holograms appeared and floated around the area.
The test began. First, the ki'cti-pa. This had been the simplest to learn once Lex could successfully perform the footwork. It required focus and flexibility. So did the course and unlike the bulky predators, Lex used her small stature to her advantage when it came to speed and flexibility.
Lex might lack their body mass and their muscles, but it didn't mean she couldn't hit as hard. Something Scar always trilled on about at meal times.
Next came the dah'kte. Hand to hand combat. Deadly accuracy. She passed the test with an ease of a Blooded.
The tricky part came when holograms were introduced. Simple animals to complex alien races she had yet to encounter.
"Now, I break a sweat... Now of all the times..." Huffing, Lex got back up from the near miss of a two-legged looking lion.
With a sudden crouch and a quick roll to the left, Lex brought up her spear for a clean strike to the heart. The animal disappeared.
Next were three humans.
Military class. Probably marines if I'm to guess correctly.
They were only holograms, but for a moment, Lex saw Weyland. Stafford. Guns pointed to her head as they moved forward through the temple.
The officials tore her house to pieces looking for alien technology. Guns to her head as they backed her to the wall. Metal interrogation rooms where they grilled her for hours. They weren't with the government. She knew that. Fake badges and fake personas.
Lex didn't move. She stayed crouch down with her ki'cti-pa out and ready. The memories assaulted her harder than Scar's punch.
The men stayed ready to fire at the first sign of movement. One of the first things that were a bit off about them. She highly doubted they would have hesitated with her armed.
Lex continued to stay still. She could hear the crowd beside her. The whispers flew about and out of the corner of her eye, she saw Scar tightened his grip on the railing. Molten stood next to him and calmly put a hand on his shoulder.
She refocused on the men in front of her. Her breathing evened out and the memories faded. They were holograms. A test. Nothing more.
With a speed that made the Elders' head reel in surprise, Lex jumped to her feet. She spun to the left and let a chakt-ra fly.
The first man fell to the floor, throat cut.
Catching the disc just like Scar taught her, Lex tucked it away for later us. Bullets flew. She dropped to the floor.
Lex dove forward, rolling until in range. A perfect strike to the heart.
Lex didn't see him drop to the floor as she spun to knock the last man standing off his feet and end him with a clean and quick stab to the heart.
Lex preferred the heart. A quick end. No suffering.
She breathed through her nose, rolling her shoulders to release the tension there.
The next targets were three, large dogs and one human handler armed with a handgun and knife.
No time to think, one dog leaped in the air, another went for her legs and the last bit into her shoulder.
She spun, the dog still latched on, to avoid the other two. Throwing off the pest, Lex made a mad dash forward towards the human. He pulled up his gun and took aim. Dodging the bullets once again, Lex swirled to the right before diving forward. Pushing herself up, her wrist blades extended out to go right threw his lower jaw. The target disappeared instantly.
One dog had been hit by the bullets and limped about in pain. The other two stayed near their friend, surprising Lex quite a bit.
She had to stop and blink. Never had she seen this before. Dogs - domesticated dogs never sought packs out like this. On the streets, sure. Under the care of a handler, no. Miana had been a fanatic about animals, especially after she got her own pooch.
Miana... I shouldn't be here. I should be finishing that email...
Looking over, she saw Scar staring right back at her. His gaze tensed with worry and fear as if he could almost guess the thoughts going through in her head.
Forgive me, Miana. But I'll have to write you a letter later.
"Will you not finizo the tezt?" Lex could hear pretentiousness clear as day, even with the bad English.
"Your test is a bit off."
"Exkuze me?"
Lex turned to face him.
"Your test is a bit off. The Marines didn't fire until I moved. I know for a fact they would have fired the minute they caught sight I was armed. The dogs act like a pack. Like street dogs. Not dogs under the care of a handler. At this point and by their current behavior, they won't attack so long as I don't get any closer or provoke them." She planted her spear into the floor. "I'm here for a test. Not a hunt. It's inefficient to go after non-targets."
"Yet they charged at you and tried to kill you." Elder K'ash spoke up, completely interested in the topic.
"Under their handler, yes. He's gone now. Continuing to fight them is wasteful. Simply, I'll wait, just like I did with every other animal you threw my way until they attack first."
"And the oomans?" The Elder growled low.
"As I said, they would have attacked the minute they saw me armed. The best defense is an offense, but that's not energy efficient." With an almost bored look, Lex continued, "do you want me to kill them? One is injured but not by my doing. I supposed it would be merciful in a sense…"
Elder K'ash trilled in approval. It would be dishonorable hunting the weak, elderly or injured. The dog had been wounded by the handler, not Lex herself.
"Zmart ooman." While Lex saw it as a sign of approval, his words were growled low with irritation. "Not many, not even your own, would oave underztood toat."
"This is a test of understanding…" Elder K'ash glanced purposefully over to the other elder. "I believe she understands."
"Thank you." Lex bowed to Elder K'ash. "Shall we continue with more proper holograms or have I passed this trial?"
"You've pazzed."
Scar quickly jumped over the rail as did some of the other friends she's made. Growls of protests sounded but most clapped their approval, especially with Elder K'ash's most obvious favor of her.
He took long strides forward and pulled Lex into a tight embrace. He dug his face into her hair and took in her scent.
During the test, he had seen that distant look in her eye. The way she tensed. It happened whenever she remembered something of Earth. She never shared what, but he feared it would hinder her in the trial.
Thankfully, Lex continued to move with such grace with the human targets as she did the aliens.
"Nothing to worry about, big guy. I've got this."
"C'jit, Lex, I ztill worry. Thank, Paya you made it through. I zaw you tense and thought you would stop."
"'S's, Scar, not 'z's. And watch the profanity. I do know what that word means."
They laughed while Scar growled in agitation and embarrassment.
