Author: Hey guys! I had such writer's block for this chapter but I finally got something down. Hopefully, it isn't too boring to you guys.
Anyways, enjoy!
"Sasha! Time to get up!" I heard, feeling someone shake me. "Ma...I told you...the zombies...tore down my school yesterday..." I mumbled, shrugging the person off. "Ow!" I exclaimed as I felt a pillow slap me in the head. "There are no zombies here, hun." I cracked open my eyes to see a chuckling Rouge the bat standing at my bedside.
I picked up the analog clock on the nightstand and squinted at it. "It's five o clock in the morning. Why are you up so early? But more importantly, why are you waking me up so early?" I asked, putting the clock back on the nightstand.
"I have to go to work at G.U.N. today and you're coming with me." She replied. "Why do I have to go? I don't work there." I whined, clearly not happy about being woken up so early in the morning. "True, but I am in charge of babysitting you. Therefore, you gotta do what I say." She claimed, teasingly. I shot a glare at her to prove that I'm not amused by her joke. "You do realize I'm not some little kid. For your information, I'm going to be sixteen soon."
"Then I'm sure you will be able to handle one day at G.U.N. headquarters." I continued to glare at her. "Come on, it'll be fun." She insisted. Groaning, I shoved my pillow over my face.
Maybe if I ignore her, she'll let me sleep in peace.
After a moment of silence, I still felt her eyes burning me through the pillow. "You're not gonna leave me alone, are you?" I asked. "Nope."
I sighed in defeat. "Fine..." I mumbled as I removed the covers and started to get up. "Good! We're leaving in thirty minutes." She grinned as she finally left the room. "Ugh..." I groaned as I lazily flopped back on the bed.
~Time Skip~
A yawn escaped my lips as I tiredly rubbed my drowsy eyes.
Gosh, I hate mornings...
I had thrown on a long sleeve red and black flannel shirt with black ripped jeans and my Timberland boots.
"I'm assuming you're not a morning person." Rouge commented in amusement. I groaned in confirmation as I lazily trudged alongside her. Once we walked into G.U.N. headquarters, we were greeted by many busy soldiers constantly moving about.
Am I even allowed to be here?
"Greetings, Agent Rouge." Said a tall man, with gray hair and multi-colored eyes as he marched over to us.
Oh boy...I recognize this guy.
"Morning, Commander. This is my roommate, Sasha. Hope you don't mind that I brought her along today." Rouge introduced. "Only government agents and soldiers are authorized to be in here, Agent Rouge." He interjected. "Don't worry, Commander. Sasha here is completely harmless and totally sane. Right, hun?" Rouge said, throwing an arm around my shoulder. "U-umm... right." I stuttered, suddenly feeling intimidated. The commander leaned down to my eye level. His mix matching irises glared at me incredulously. I gulped, trying my best to keep a brave look on my face. After what felt like an eternity, he finally stood back up to his original height.
"Alright, she can stay. Just make sure you keep an eye on her." He stated as I released a breath I didn't notice I was holding. "No problem, sir." Rouge replied happily before dragging me deeper into headquarters. Eventually, met up with two people I instantly recognized. "Morning, boys!" Rouge said in her chipper attitude.
"Greetings, Agent Rouge." Said the giant red robot known as Omega. Next to him stood the red and black hedgehog known as Shadow the edgy hedgehog who simply nodded in greeting.
"Omega, Shadow, this is Sasha, my new roommate I told you guys about. Isn't she adorable?" Rouge introduced.
I'm just gonna ignore that adorable comment...
"Hello there, striped feline." Omega said. "Heh heh, hi." I replied with closed-eyed smile.
I glanced over at Shadow who seemed to be examining me from head to toe with his piercing red irises. It felt as if he was glaring into my soul.
Why must everyone here be so intimidating?
After what felt like forever, Shadow finally spoke. "She's not supposed to be here." He said strictly, as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Yea yea, I know the rules. But don't worry, I've already talked to the commander about it and he said it's alright if she stays for the day." Rouge explained.
"If it is okay with the commander then it is ok with me." Omega said in his robotic voice, making me feel welcome. Shadow narrowed his ruby red eyes at me. "Hmph. Fine." He responded before walking away.
Wow...he just met me and he already hates me. Well, it is Shadow so I should expect something like this from him.
"Don't worry about Mr. Sunshine. He's always grumpy, but I'm sure he'll warm up to you sooner or later." Rouge assured, practically reading my thoughts. "Yea, sure..." I replied, uncertain if that will really happen or not.
~Time Skip~
Bang! Bang! Bang! The sound of guns being fired echoed through the shooting range. I sat quietly in a chair against the wall as I watched the agents work on their target practice.
Thanks to the fact that I had my headphones on full blast, I wasn't bothered by the noise. Especially considering how Omega was annihilating most of the targets. To keep myself busy, I subconsciously decided to pick off the split ends from my locks of brown hair.
My hair needs a serious trim...
Reluctantly, I sniffed a lock of my brown hair and frowned at the sour smell.
And a good wash...
Suddenly, I felt my headphones being removed from my ears, startling me a bit. I looked up to see the ebony hedgehog staring down at me. "Uh...c-can I help you...?" I mentally slapped myself for stammering like an idiot.
"Hey, Sasha! Wanna give it a try?" Rouge asked, walking over us. "Oh-uhh...n-no I'm good! I-I mean... I'm not good at-!" My stammering was cut off when Shadow grabbed my wrist and dragged me over to a station. "Here." He said as he slapped a pistol in my hand, causing me to glare at him.
What's the point of asking me if you're just gonna force me to do it anyway?
"Try to aim for the center of the targets." He instructed. I nodded as I examined the pistol in my hand. After checking the magazine in the pistol, I aimed the pistol at the target. I then took in a deep breath as I kept my eyes on the target.
It's been a long time since I held one of these...
~Flashback~
The sound of laughter and the smell of cigarette smoke flowed within the dirty 'abandoned' warehouse. "So, I told that punk, 'If you ever talk to me like that again, I'll put a bullet in your brain then toss you into the bottom of a lake!" My boyfriend of two months said before taking another puff of his cigarette. The howling laughter of his fellow gang members rang throughout the warehouse. I giggled at the joke, catching my boyfriend's attention. He took his cigarette out of his mouth and dropped it in the ashtray that was placed on the small makeshift table next to him.
"Eek! Kyle!" I squeaked in surprise as he grabbed me and pulled me onto his lap. "Have I ever told how sexy your laugh is?" He asked huskily. I smirked while wrapping my arms around his neck. "Maybe once or twice." He chuckled before pulling me into a rough yet passionate kiss. The fresh taste of tobacco still lingered on his lips, but I've learned to get used to it by now.
"Hey, big brother!" Yelled a loud but cheerful voice, causing an annoyed growl to emanate from Kyle. "Go away, Madison!" He rudely replied to his younger sister before continuing to kiss me."Why do you have to be so mean to me? I'm always so nice to you!" She whined in a cute and innocent tone. Kyle scoffed as he finally pulled away. "If by nice you mean purposely dropping a wrench on your eye, then framing me for doing it just for attention. Then, yea, you're a saint of a sister."
"Well, it's not my fault that I'm a good actor." She said, smiling triumphantly. "What do you want, Madison?" Kyle asked as he rolled his dark blue eyes. "I just came to borrow some money."
"No way! I'm not lending you any more money to give to anyone else you owe!" Kyle refused. Madison pouted for a moment before her eyes traveled up and down my form. A flirtatious smirk forming on her lips. "Ya know, your girlfriend is pretty cute. Why don't you let me have her?" She said twirling one of her blonde highlights.
Let who have what now?!
"Not gonna happen! So, back off!" Kyle snapped defensively. "Oh, please! Unlike you, she's closer to my age. Besides, you're just going to treat her like the rest of the girls you've dated. Besides, I'm sure she'll be much happier with me. Isn't that right, sweetheart?" Seductively, she ran her hand along my thigh, making me really uncomfortable.
Before I had the chance to protest, Madison was faced with a pistol pointed to her forehead. "I TOLD YOU TO BACK OFF!" Kyle yelled, catching everyone's attention. Madison narrowed her equally dark blue eyes at her brother. "You wouldn't dare."
"Do you really think I wouldn't?" Kyle threatened as his glare intensified. The air was dead silent as everyone waited for the next move. My heart was pounding so hard that I thought it was going to jump out of my chest. "Ugh! Fine! Whatever!" Madison huffed as she angrily stomped away. "That's what I thought..." Kyle mumbled as I watched him put the weapon back in his pocket. The rest of the gang members continued with their conversations as if nothing happened. As for me, I couldn't clear my mind.
Would he really have shot her...? His own sister..? Also, was his sister telling the truth? Is he going to treat me like all his other girlfriends?
"You alright, babe?" Kyle asked, interrupting my thoughts. "Huh? Oh y-yea, I'm fine..." A frown formed on his features before turning his attention to the rest of the gang members. "Hey, guys! Give us a minute!" They all nodded their heads as they stood up and went to a different area of the warehouse.
Being left alone, Kyle stood up and took his jean jacket off, revealing his numerous tattoos on his toned muscles. I did my best to ignore the heat rising to my cheeks. "Sasha, you know I love ya, right?" He suddenly asked while running a hand through his spiky blonde hair. I tilted my head in confusion. "Umm...yes...?" I replied, uncertain of what he was planning to do. Suddenly, Kyle pulled his pistol back out of his pocket and took the safety off. Instanty, my heart began pounding ten times faster.
OH MY GOSH! IS HE GOING TO KILL ME?!
"Here." He said, placing the gun in my hands. "Huh? What are you doing?" I asked, completely confused. "Well, I'm the leader of this gang. If your gonna be my queen, you're gonna need to learn how to defend yourself." He said, walking over to the other side of the room and started setting up glass beer bottles on top of a wooden crate.
"Try to aim for the beer bottles." He instructed. "Uhh...ok then..." With shaky hands, I raised the gun and aimed it at one of the bottles. Hesitantly, I pulled the trigger. BANG! "Eek!" I squeaked as I dropped the gun. I heard Kyle laugh as he walked over and picked the gun up from the floor.
"Th-that's not funny...! Ugh...my hands hurt." I pouted while rubbing my hands. "Heh, yea, I remember my first time. Don't worry, you'll get used to it. I remember my first time." He said, handing the gun back to me. At that moment, a question had occurred to me.
"Kyle...H-have you ever... actually had to...y-you know?" Kyle nervously scratched the back of his neck while shifting his gaze to the ground. "Well...uh...um... Let's just focus on your shooting practice." He said, turning me around to face the bottles. The way he avoided my question really concerned me, but I tried not to think about it too much.
"Keep your arms steady and relax your elbows." He mumbled while adjusting the position of my arms. "Focus on your target." He moved my head so that I was staring straight at the beer bottle. "Ok..." I mumbled. Lastly, he covered my ears to protect them from the noise. Although, I was still able to hear the next thing he said. "Now, just take a breath and pull the trigger." Closing my eyes, I took in a deep breath before releasing it. Finally, I snapped my eyes open and squeezed the trigger.
~Flashback End~
The clicking sound of an empty gun chamber reached my ears, causing me to stop. I gazed at the targets to see that I came close to hitting the center on almost every target. "Looks like our little Sasha here has some skills," Rouge complimented, while playfully elbowing me in my arm.
"Umm, thanks." I said sheepishly while massaging my now sore arm. I glanced over at the black and red hedgehog to see that he was slightly... impressed? "Hmph. Not bad." He commented, before exiting the shooting range. I couldn't help but stare after him with wide brown eyes.
Did...did I just get a compliment from Shadow the hedgehog...?
"Wow, you even managed to impress the ultimate lifeform. That's not something that happens often." Rouge commented. "Heh, yea... I'm going to use the restroom." I said before excusing myself. I walked down the hall, passing by G.U.N. soldiers in the process. After passing a couple of doors, I entered the empty ladies restroom. Marching to the sink, I turned on the faucet and began splashing cold water onto my face. After a minute of doing so, I turned the faucet back to its off position.
C'mon, Sasha! Get yourself together! You are not the same person as you were back then!
I felt my hands clenched into fists as trying to push back the memories that were resurfacing in my conscience. I looked into the mirror to face my mobian reflection. Sometimes, I struggle to remember that I no longer have a human appearance. I then took a deep breath, calming myself down.
Forget about everything that happened in your past, Sasha. You are now a mobian that lives on planet Mobius. This is your new life now, and it's time that you get used to that.
