Hope from the Sky: Guilty Pleasure
She knew it was just a dream based off of his fantasy, but Kaede Sogen wanted to indulge a little before she awoke to the next day of her two-month incarceration sentence. It was night, the sky was bathed in beautiful lights, and she was in a vast, grassy field.
Shinji was in front of her, looking at her like he had seen an angel descend from the heavens.
"Kaede?" He spoke, confused by what was going on. "Is this a dream?"
"It is," she answered him, "but it's really nice."
"But…what are we doing here?"
"It's just a guilty pleasure, Shinji. Take it for what it's worth."
She held out her left hand to him, and he accepted, being pulled by her into an embrace (A/N: Cue to Call of Silence by Gemie). They then began to dance on the grass; Shinji felt mildly embarrassed, but was reminded that it was just a dream…and there was nobody else around but the two of them.
"I hope I haven't disappointed you, Shinji," she told him.
You will know you're reborn tonight…
"You haven't disappointed me, Kaede," he responded. "I'm just glad you're still you. I worried that the Founder would overpower you."
"I kept thinking about the hope you gave me when you helped to retake Wall Maria. And then the coastal city…and going across the ocean for the first time. You were my pillar amidst the ocean of the First King's ideology, my anchor."
I don't want to go through that ever again… So cry no more, oh, my beloved…
"I don't ever want to be without you, no matter what, anymore, Kaede."
"You will never lose me, Shinji. You have my heart…just as I have yours."
Suddenly, they were floating above the grass, in the night sky under the lights. She laid her head against his chest, feeling his heartbeat beneath his shirt.
"You're the one for me, Kaede."
You are the one, a rising star…
"And you're the one for me, Shinji."
He tilted her head up to look him in the eye…before he kissed her lips. She embraced him and held him as close as she could, not wanting to let go.
Unbeknownst to either, however, higher above, in the deepest darkness, they were being watched by the Titans Kaede had taken from those that had them. As if resembling some sort of mural or ancient painting, the Dark Titan, in the form it currently used to represent the collective power it possessed from seven of the Nine Titans that knelt behind it, stood gracefully as it looked down at the two. It gave a small smile, as if proud of the two…before it, too, knelt before the couple.
You got a spark to hold… You're God…
