Neon Genesis Evangelion

Hope from the Sky: No more arrogance

A/N: Inspired by the USA commercial that spoke in intense volumes.

It was actually Hange's idea for the Survey Corps to record this message comprised of what several people from around the city of Paradius thought of when it came to Marley and their vendetta against what remained of Eldia due to its unnecessary lethality. And Historia had to admit that she, too, was moved by the video recordings of what her people had to say about the war Marley was clearly losing against them due to the shift in the balance of power, resources and intelligence.

"…Marley needs to know how the people feel about their hatred," she told Ymir about it that night, showing her the bit footage on a tablet.

"Words will speak louder than actions if this gets heard," Ymir agreed with her, setting the tablet down. "I can't believe Hange actually came up with this plan."

"…I heard they wanted to record a message from you, too, Shinji," went Kaede to Shinji as they were on sentry duty the next day during the afternoon, monitoring the ocean from his Eva as it walked by the coast towards the north of the island.

"Yeah, they wanted to hear my personal feelings about the war," he explained through the Eva's intercom. "I'm sure my answer will similar to those of others, but I can't stand the violence inflicted upon those that have done nothing truly wrong to anyone that has nothing but contempt in their hearts. If you hate someone simply because they exist, then you're a disturbed person. The hatred goes beyond racism or any other form of disrespect, and too many lives have already been taken. There's maybe more lives lost this year alone than in the years past."

"Yeah, no doubt about it, Shinji, a lot of people died this year than those of the past years combined."

"What about you, Kaede? Are you going to share your personal feelings about the war?"

"Yeah, I have something I need to share with Marley. No more deception."

"No more hate. That's my message."

As the Eva walked past a village, a little boy with a ball looked out at the ocean at a recent development that the Survey Corps had implemented a few days ago that floated in the water. They said that it was some sort of…sensor that would alert them in case any ships came within a certain range to the island.

"…What am I supposed to say, exactly?" Eren asked Hange as he sat in front of a white screen in front of a camera set to record his piece for the Marleyans.

"You just say what you feel Marley should do no more of to other people," she explained. "It can be anything from no more violence to no more experimenting on people."

"Okay," he responded.

"Recording in three…two…go."

"No more…segregation against people of other ethnicities."

"That's good, Eren. That was very good."

When Eren left the room, he noticed that Armin among other members of the Survey Corps and civilians were in a line awaiting their chance to get recorded on the video.

"You're doing this, too, Armin?" He asked.

"Yeah," he answered him. "People are volunteering to share what they want to see no more of. Mostly people that once resided in the internment zones, but they all want to share what they'd like to see put an end to."

Even Mikasa was in the line, which surprised Eren; he didn't think she had something to say to Marley through a camera…or in person. It seemed like this video they were making was going to make a lot of noise with Marely once it was finished.

When the last person for the day was seen and recorded, Hange and the film crew went to work on piecing the footage together to make the video for Marley to look at so they could see how their unnecessary hatred affected the Eldians that used to live in their internment zones.

"Where do you want each segment to go?" Jean asked her.

"We'll start with putting their names in the film to individuate each person," she suggested. "I don't understand why people of the past enjoyed this whole 'fifteen minutes of fame' thing, but if this helps to make Marley pay attention to the people they've hurt, I hope this sends a loud message."

"Yeah, a real loud one that Marley can't ignore."

"Mother, when did you get that tablet?" Kaede asked Christine in the kitchen, three days later as they were setting up breakfast, noticing a large tablet on the counter.

"Two days ago," she answered her. "I want to be able to watch the video you're in."

"I'm only in a bit that's maybe five seconds long."

"Still worth watching, Kaede," said Sig as he put the plate of pancakes and hash browns on the table…followed by a jar of pickles. "No use fighting your mother. She beats me every time."

"Heh-heh-heh… Oh…" Christine went, putting her left hand on her waist. "Somebody moved again."

"Barely into your second trimester and already someone's making a small fuss to be noticed," Kaede told her parents.

"Probably wondering where Shinji is," suggested Sig, since his wife asked the boy to pick up cabbage.

"Next time, I'll be with Shinji to make sure nothing happens to him," Kaede stated.

It might've taken more than a day to piece together every bit of footage, but the results were worth it after looking at the completed video.

"Okay," Hange told her crew, "let's spread this across the net."

This was something new, the Marleyan prisoners being escorted to a large room a few dozen at a time that had a large screen on the wall. None of them knew what it was or what it could do to them.

"What's this about?" Calvi questioned as he was among the inmates being escorted into the room to sit down in the chairs.

"Today, you're all going to listen to what the people have to say about your mistreatment to them over what happened centuries ago," the male Eldian explained to them, standing in the back of the room among twelve other Eldians with four others stood by the doors.

"You expect us to listen to over a million Eldians in this room?" A female Marleyan asked.

"One voice can represent dozens of people, but a dozen voices can represent a multitude of people," a female Eldian explained as the room darkened. "You'll see."

The screen lit up and a series of words appeared in front of the people: "The People of Eldia and their Voices" by Hange Zoe of the Survey Corps.

From someone's point of view, a camera was looking at Hange Zoe, whose name appeared under her head for five seconds.

"Are we filming?" She asked the cameraman.

"Yes, ma'am," responded a woman's voice, and the name Petra Ral appeared for five seconds to reveal that they were the one holding the camera.

"Okay, this message is for the people of Marley, whom we found to be the only other race of people besides the people of Eldia and the Mix-fits descendants of other races that relocated to Paradis, and how they treat anyone that they believe they can't get along with because the unnecessary hatred they have against others, including the Eldians. You really need to hear what several of them have to say that you need to cease doing because it's not helping anyone towards a better tomorrow."

"Yeah, right," went a male Marleyan, clearly unfazed, and Hange was replaced by a woman whose name was listed as Allegra Reed.

"No more discrimination based on a past we know nothing about completely," she said.

Soon, she was replaced by a man named Seraph Pins.

"No more abuse of authority," he spoke, and he was replaced by another man by the name of Mason Brunch IV.

"No more, 'They were looking at us wrong'," Mason shared before he was replaced by Armin Arlett of the Survey Corps.

"No more looking the other way out of disgust towards one's race," Armin said.

Then a woman named Sabrina Cove appeared on the screen.

"No more, 'These people don't deserve to live here'," she uttered.

The Marleyans groaned and sighed over what they believed to be inane whining from the Eldians just because of the way they had been treated over the years.

"It's not like I even give a… What the Hell, Reiner Braun's in this thing, too?!" One of them gasped, seeing Reiner on the screen.

"No more segregation between races," Reiner expressed.

Not only was Reiner in the footage, but so was Bertolt Hoover.

"No more using children as soldiers," he shared his piece.

"No more exploiting people because of something they have no control over," said a woman named Shelby Dust.

"No more limiting what people can or can't do," added a man named Michael Fitzgerald.

"No more deception," the Marleyans heard Kaede say.

"No more hatred," they heard Shinji say after, which caused the inmates to react more to his face than to what he just said.

"Was that boy an Asian?!" A woman yelled. "He was an Asian, wasn't he?! I thought they were all killed years ago! I watched the last of them die!"

"No more orphaned children due to violence," they saw Historia say on the screen.

"No more grieving parents of deceased children," added Ymir after.

"No more ignorance," said Erwin Smith.

"No more excuses," went Dot Pixis.

"No more war," expressed a woman by the name of Alicia Dawson.

"No more," the Marleyans saw three random people say together.

"No more," went seven more random people.

"No more!" They saw a bunch of children say on the screen, followed by Hange reappearing at the end.

"No more," she uttered, and then screen cut to white.

The lights came back on, and the inmates were escorted out the other door.

"Wow, Kaede and Shinji," Christine expressed after she saw the video, looking at the pair. "You two were really good up there."

"All we did was…share what we wanted to see stop," Kaede expressed, a little embarrassed by her mother's praise, "but whether or not the Marleyans listen to it…is really up to them."

"After this, something's gotta give," said Sig to them. "You kids spoke loud out there, both verbally…and emotionally."

"Thank you," Shinji praised him, bowing his head.

Returned to his cell, Calvi had a hard time escaping the video he was made to watch of all those Eldians…and that boy that appeared to be Asian, this…Shinji Ikari. He was certain that his ethnicity as well as his very existence…were as unusual as that Kaede Sogen girl with the Dark Titan…and there was no way that anybody from the Asian communities could have evaded the ethnic cleansing operations that occurred after Marley decided to eliminate the other races without them knowing about any survivors. Unless, of course, it was possible that the boy was actually from Paradis, and a survivor of their own brand of extermination, but he couldn't be sure. And then, there was that purple giant that wasn't a Titan; it had bested several dozens of the Jaeger Titans and liberated their internment zones without any difficulties that most of the Marleyan higher-ups were extremely nervous that this thing was the result of a new deal the Eldians made with another demon.

It wouldn't even matter what Marley tries to do, he thought as he lied in his cot, these Eldians have amassed resources and powerful allies to defend themselves. They could even take the world from Marley if they wanted to. We're completely helpless against them.

"No more war," he recalled the Eldian woman say in the video, indicating that they didn't want to continue fighting against them, even though they could…and win.

-x-

"…Can't sleep?" Kaede heard Shinji say to her as he stood outside the hallway bathroom while she stood by the sink.

"I had a weird dream about the both of us," she explained to him.

"What was it about?"

"We were falling, but we were falling in different directions; you were falling…towards a different Earth while I was falling towards another Earth. We're trying to reach for each other…but a man with orange glasses pulls you further away from me."

"My father," Shinji suspected. "I'd never let that happen. I'd throw him across the stars before he could come between us."

"Thanks, Shinji."

Kaede stepped out of the bathroom, but didn't want to return to her room.

"Are you sure you're okay, Kaede?" He asked her.

"I'm okay now, Shinji," she assured him. "Hey, how about we…get lost in the night for a little bit? I'm a little restless."

"Your parents are here, and they're likely to notice we're gone…"

Suddenly, the Dark Titan emerged from Kaede's neck and expressed, "Not most likely."

Seeing that he was outnumbered by the girl and her Titan and unlikely to win this little argument, Shinji gave in and got their coats.

"Where do we get lost in the night?" He asked her.

"I'll show you," she answered him, and they left out the front door.

To be continued…

A/N: Well, here's to hoping that this chapter will help get Marley to eventually cease their hatred over time when the rest of them hear of the video. I felt it was a little bit rushed but still powerful in its own right. What did any of you think?
