CHAPTER 6
"Do you think we should be concerned?" Ahsoka asked her Master as they trudged through the dark area.
"About what?" Anakin asked, looking down at her. It was hard to see her, but he could tell she was concerned. She had this obvious concern tone to her voice.
"About what Piper said," Ahsoka replied. "Like she was warning us about everything out here, the radiation, the plague doctors, and the Calvary."
Anakin smirked. "I don't think the Calvary exists."
"Why not, she had no reason to lie to us and the Plague Doctors and Radiation are real threats that are true," Ahsoka stated.
"Well first off, yes Radiation makes sense, but none of us have been 'infected' yet. Even if we did we could just go back to Coruscant and I am pretty sure that they can create a cure. Second of all, the plague doctors are only harmful when we're dead and none of us are dead yet. And the Calvary…" Anakin trailed off for a moment thinking of something to say to calm his padawan. "Piper lives alone, she's a liquidator. She probably doesn't have much fighting experience and plus if the radiation is extremely dangerous out here, she probably made up stories to keep travelers away, but we're Jedi, they don't even have any understanding as to how powerful we are, if anything happens we can take care of it."
Ahsoka sighed. It was so like her Master to think that they could handle anything. What are you thinking Ahsoka, he's probably right. She tried to tell herself; to be honest with herself she couldn't help but feel worried because she had a horrible feeling about everything around her. She didn't like the city, and whether or not the Calvary existed didn't matter because those people were genuinely afraid of something. Ahsoka thought about arguing with her Master, stating that maybe they should be more careful. She opened her mouth to do so but then stopped at the sight of a large figure just ahead in their view. Relief washed over her as they approached their ship.
"I feel as though you're right, but we should be careful."Obi-wan put his hand to his bread. "Those people in the town were moving so quickly, they were obviously afraid of something."
"I'm not saying to be not careful I'm just saying that we shouldn't get all that stressed, besides what is the worst that could happen, we're Jedi!"
Just as on cue a blinding bright light shined on them. Anakin, Obi-wan, and Ahsoka all raised their arms to try and cover it.
"What the!" Anakin shouted as he tried to block the light with his mechanical arm. For the brief moments when he blocked the source, he saw the faint outline of two men standing on either side of it. They were very high up, so it took him a few moments to realize that they were on top of their ship. For a moment Anakin thought it was Rex and his men playing a trick on him, but the men were eerily silent, and plus the clones had no spotlight, that wasn't attracted to the ship. After realizing that these men were in fact not Rex and his men, Anakin instinctively reached for his lightsaber with his other arm, when he grabbed it and tried to ignite it a wave of frustration rolled over him, because his lightsaber didn't ignite. What the Krif?
"Hello there!" Obi-wan called. "Could you please be so kind and shine your very bright and sight depriving light away from us."
Anakin found himself rolling his eyes. Of course, the Great Negotiator would try to Negotiate.
The men didn't say anything, they just stood there, creepily watching them as if they were deciding what to do with them.
"Who's there!" Anakin yelled aggressively.
Again their response was silence.
"I don't like this," Anakin stated to his group before shouting at the men again. "If you don't get off my ship by the count of three we will be forced to take you down!"
"Master!" Ahsoka harshly whispered to him, "my lightsabers won't activate."
Anakin was slightly relieved that it wasn't just him. "Mine won't either Snips, but they don't know that."
"Well what do you plan to do, we have no lightsabers and no connection to the force."
Ahsoka whispered back.
"Don't worry, I'll think of something," Anakin whispered back.
"ONE!" Anakin shouted loud.
The men didn't move.
"TWO!" He shouted a little louder.
Again the men didn't move.
Anakin took a deep sigh, he actually didn't have a plan, he was hoping he could intimate them off, that usually worked in the outer rim. A large rock down by his boot caught his eye and an idea sprung in his mind.
"THREE!" As he shouted that he reached down, grabbed the rock and with his mechanical arm aimed the rock to the light. The sound of glass shattering was heard as the area went dark.
"That was your plan!" Ahsoka snippy voice stated at Anakin while blinking violently trying to adjust to the sudden darkness.
"Ah, yeah I got the light out didn't I!" Anakin stated, trying to adjust his eyes as well.
"Oh, hooray we are saved!" Obi-Wan stated with sarcasm in his voice.
Anakin scowled. He could not see Obi-wan's face well, but he knew that his old Master was making that same smirk that he always makes when he mocks Anakin.
All of a sudden the sound of a dark, loud, and raspy voice came from behind them. "ONE!"
A light as blinding as the first shined on them causing them to turn around.
Then the same voice mocked them a second time to their right. "TWO!"
Another light shined at them.
And then the voice came the last time. "THREE!" All of a sudden about three more lights appeared and all of them shined out of their faces and towards a group of six large men. All were wearing black or brown clothes, but what was the most horrifying was their Mask. Their masks were all white, completely masking their facial expressions. At least three of them were obviously human, but the other three had their mask altered to show that they were something else.
"Hello there!" Obi-wan called out again. "I am sorry that my friend here broke your light but we really don't want any trouble." "We just would like to get to our ship and we will be on our merry way."
The sound of weapons raising came from behind them and on instinct, all three raised their arms. Anakin took a glance behind him to notice that there were about 10 more masked men with loaded weapons. He was taken by surprise, however, because those weapons didn't at all look like blasters, but something else and he didn't like it.
"There's no need for violence!" Obi-wan stated. "We just want to talk!"
"I don't think they want to talk!" Anakin said to Obi-wan.
"Relax Anakin, they won't blast us, they will hit the six in front of us if they do that!" Obi-wan stated casually.
Then one of the men in front of him began laughing. "Don't underestimate the sharpness of my men, Jedi!" The man's voice had this psychotic ring to it which made Ahsoka cringe.
"Oh, so you know what Jedi are?" Obi-wan commented.
"Why of course!" He stated. "Everyone knows what Jedi are, in fact, my men and I idealize you guys, we have a lot in common!"
Anakin frowned. He did not like where this was going.
"Oh well, that's nice to hear!" Obi-wan stated. "We thought that this planet has no connection to the Intergalactic Republic."
"We don't our government keeps it that way, but we know of your war and such." The man stated so commonly.
Anakin watched as the man walked forward to where he was about a yard away from Kenobi. The man was about a foot taller than Obi-wan and clearly had muscles, Anakin could tell that this man had a very strong build to him. Anakin glanced around at the twenty other men and noticed that they all had strong builds to them. He frowned, all of the men were holding themselves together in a manner that said don't move, we mean business!
"Oh that's quite unfortunate," Obi-wan stated.
"It's unfair, isn't it. You're allowed to come to this planet but you're not allowed to leave!"
"Oh we are about to leave," Obi-wan smirked.
"Yes, we know." The man stated. "That's why we greatly appreciate your donation to our cause!"
"Donation.," Anakin stated. "Of what!"
"Your ship, of course, we understand that being stuck on this dirtball is horrible but we know that you guys are so selfless that you donate your freedom for ours!"
"Ahhhh no!" Anakin instantly shouted almost laughing.
"We aren't giving you our ship!" Ahsoka gritted through her teeth as if she was holding back a bit.
"Oh I do apologize, sir, we must have a miss understanding!" Obi-wan stated calmly.
The man glanced at all three of them. "Oh, I think we do have a misunderstanding." "Your five men that were here, they had the same idea as you guys do!"
Anakin's eyes widened.
"You see they believed the same and told us that the ship belonged to you three, so we just took them out of the elements and kept them safe, til you guys arrived."
Anger sprung through Anakin. "WHERE ARE MY MEN!"
The man smiled under his mask. "They are safe for now."
"Release them!" Anakin ordered.
Obi-wan turned towards Anakin and gave him a little smile that said Calm yourself, I got this. He then proceeded to turn towards the masked man. "Sir it is not polite to keep five troopers hostage for our ship."
The man smiled again, this time wider. "Oh, I apologize did I say five. I meant four."
Anakin put his arms down and immediately marched up to the man but was stopped when the clicking of a weapon was positioned too close to his head. Anakin glanced over to see one of those mask men had a black weapon positioned at his face. How did he get there so quickly? Anakin thought to himself.
"Sir, will you please ask your friends to put down their weapons and in return my old apprentice here will cool his temper. There is no need to be uncivil."
The man looked at Obi-wan. "But we are being civil." "We haven't shot any of you yet."
"Oh." Obi-wan almost laughed. "I guess this is civil for you, never taught the ways in modern society."
The man then froze. Although his face was covered, his demeanor obviously shifted.
"Are you mocking me, Jedi." He stated. "MOCKING US!"
"No, I was just stating the near fact that you seem uncivil." Obi-wan started smirking.
The man then calmed down. "Oh, your right. I apologize, you see I have trouble managing my anger, especially when I feel as though someone mocks my men."
Obi-wan smiled. I have him just where I want him. "Oh I understand, my friend here," he nudged towards Anakin, "has trouble controlling his temper too, he cares too much for his fellow people."
Anakin just stood there, not even changing the expression on his face. He did not trust this guy whatsoever and he was not going to let anyone think that.
"I thought Jedi are supposed to have no attachments?" The man asked.
"Yes that is true, but my old apprentice here still has trouble managing it." Obi-wan stated.
"Oh," he walked up to Anakin, "Don't worry son, you will learn to not have attachments eventually. It's a trait everyone learns eventually."
Anakin just narrowed his eyes more, not saying a word.
The man then turned back to Obi-wan. "How about you? Do you have any attachments?"
Obi-wan smiled. "No, you see I am a Jedi Master meaning I have Mastered all the ways of the Jedi including the no attachment rule."
"Ohhh a Jedi Master!" The man said with a creepy amount of excitement. "That's impressive!"
"Why thank you!" Obi-wan said, "It takes a lot of work."
The man smiled and took a few steps back from Obi-wan. He then turned to Ahsoka. "Well look what we have here, you know we haven't seen a traveler of your kind come through here in a while. And boy, your kind is very pretty."
Ahsoka gritted her teeth to keep yourself from lounging at the man.
The man looked at her and although Ahsoka couldn't see his face, his gaze made her very uncomfortable. That was when a horrible realization crept into her mind, many of the men around her were looking at her. And all of a sudden Ahsoka felt very exposed in a way she had not felt exposed before in a long time.
The man then reached out and grabbed her chin, and that did it for Ahsoka with as much force as she could; she violently opened her mouth and attempted to bite him.
"Ahh!" The man yelled while yanking his hand back last minute. "Now talk about being uncivil." He grabbed his hand and looked back up at Ahsoka. "That wasn't a very civil young lady."
The man then looked at her, his demeanor changing yet again. "Well, boys I think we should teach this beautiful young Jedi how to be civil!" He flicked his head and within two moments two more masked men came up from behind her and grabbed Ahsoka from her arms, and pushed their knees into the back of her knees forcing her on the ground. Ahsoka began to struggle but the two men were just too strong.
"GET OFF OF ME!" She shouted at them from her knees.
The man leaned down to eye level with her and grabbed her chin yet again. "Well, I think it's time you learned your place, little girl."
Anakin who was watching from a few yards away felt a wave of anger come over him he had not felt in a long time. "GET AWAY FROM HER!" He shouted louder and more aggressively than he had ever yelled. He jerked forward but was immediately hit in the head from behind causing him to fall down. He then tried to get up but someone kicked him in the gut causing him to fall down again. The two men hitting him then brought him to his knees.
The lead man walked over to him. He pulled out his small hand weapons and hit Anakin across the face with it. "Don't be so paranoid Jedi, be happy! Today you get to witness your apprentice become a woman." The man then grabbed Anakin's face. "And besides you are having problems with forming attachments, so I will also be doing you a favor."
"I swear if you so much as lay a finger on her I will KILL YOU!" Anakin aggressively yelled through his teeth.
"Oh but killing isn't the Jedi way!" The man stated. "Your friend here wants to be civil! And your apprentice obviously hasn't learned this yet. So I'm sure your old friend here will thank me when I am done."
Obi-wan's eyes widened at that statement, under normal circumstances Obi-wan would have said Sir that is not what I meant. And tried to further negotiate their way out of this, but this had not just taken a turn for the worst, but a turn to the end. This man was psychotic and it wouldn't have mattered what Obi-wan had said, he would have twisted his words in such a disgusting way that they would get further into trouble. So Obi-wan stood there completely speechless, he had never felt so defeated in his life.
Obi-wan watched as the man slithered away from Anakin and back to Ahsoka who was still struggling.
"ERRR UGHH!" Ahsoka yelled, but the more she struggled the more the men, who had held her, seemed to tighten their grip. The man then aggressively pushed her head forward in the dirt.
"Oh don't struggle, sweetheart, it will only make it hurt more." The man stated creepily to her as he walked to her backside.
"DON'T YOU DARE!" Anakin yelled with so much anger his words slurred. "I WILL KILL YOU!"
The man smirked at Anakin one last time. "No you won't!"
The man then reached for the rim of Ahsoka's leggings. But just before he touched her a loud bang was heard through the field and the man fell on top of her.
Before anyone could pop up questioning what that was, more loud popping noises came through the air and immediately the area around them was under fire. "POLICE GET DOWN!" A loud thunderous voice echoed with the popping.
The men holding Ahsoka and Anakin released them, to pull out their weapons but immediately fell to the ground. When Anakin was released he got down on the ground and began crawling to Ahsoka.
The sound of popping and screaming echoed around him. A mix wave of emotions was rushing through him, he was still very angry at that man even though he was just killed, he was very scared because he had no idea what was happening, and he was concerned for Ahsoka. His heart was beating so fast he thought it would beat out of his chest. He tried to take a deep breath to calm himself but a thick gust of smoke filled his lungs causing him to cough. Coughing on the ground Anakin got this fear that this battle would last forever, it sure seemed like it.
Then the sound of the popping turned into a sound of clicking and then was replaced with the sound of loud running footsteps and the words. "GO! GO! GO!"
All of a sudden a wave of shock rushed over Anakin as he felt hands wrapped around his ankles as someone dragged him back, turned him around and began punching him. Anakin grabbed the mask man's arm, but the man seemed to not be faced with this as he began to use his other arm. Anakin was concerned he was pinned until a black figure that seemed to come out of nowhere kicked the man bringing him to his knees. The man then pulled out a knife and was about to cut the figure, but the figure kicked the knife away and then harshly kicked the man's face.
Another few masked men lounged at the figure but the figure instantly, like it was nothing, raised its leg kicking one back into the other. The figure then grabbed the thirds man's fist and slung him around into the pile, yet again kicking them all in the face.
"Clear!" A voice from behind him yelled. The sound of silence then filled the air indicating that this short battle that had just happened was over. The figure walked over to Anakin and bent down.
The figure pulled its hood down and then its month masked and revealed to Anakin's surprise that the figure was someone he knew. Piper.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
Anakin then sat up looking at her with a daze in his eyes. He blinked a few times, I have to be dreaming he thought. How could this girl just do everything he saw her do."Ahh yeah. Thanks." Immediately remembering his original mission, Anakin got up and ran over to Ahsoka. The man's body who was about to violate her was still on top of her. Anakin shoved him off to reveal Ahsoka who was lying face down with her arms covering her head like she was taking cover.
Anakin sighed as he tapped her shoulder. "Ahsoka… hey, it's me. It's… it's over snips….your safe now."
Ahsoka hesitantly looked up and slowly sat up. She then turned to Anakin and looked up at him with her tear-stained face and shocked blue eyes. It was then that Anakin realized that she must have been not only shocked but traumatized. He wrapped his arms around her slender shoulders and almost cried himself as he felt them tremble in his arms. "I am so sorry Ahsoka." Anakin began "This is all my fault." He said quickly but not quickly enough because a small streak of laughter came from in front of him.
"Hahaha. How is it your fault?" Piper stated.
After a brief laugh, Piper's demeanor changed and squatted down so she was eye level with Ahsoka. "But seriously are you okay kid?"
From Anakin's arms, Ahsoka just looked at her with shocked tear-stained eyes, but slowly she seemed to come back to the present. She gave Piper a small nod.
"Good." Piper began. "I was worried about you, the Calvary love your kind. A little too much." She then glanced at Anakin then back at Ahsoka. "You got a good big brother."
Piper then stood up and glanced around. "Alright, boys! If any are still alive we take them into custody for immediate questioning! For those that are dead, stack the bodies in a neat pile, the Plague Doctors will take them."
Obi-wan who was still standing where he began to speak. "You… you… murdered so many...people."
Piper looked at him. "No, we killed people, murder is where you kill innocent people."
"But.. you took away life forms. How can you decide who dies and lives so easily." Obi-wan questioned.
Piper almost laughed, his innocence entertained her. "What these people do makes it easy." She responded.
Obi-wan looked up at her. "You… you are sith!" He almost shouted, but his shock was still hindering his voice.
Piper smiled as she pulled out her hand weapon and made a few adjustments to it. "Oh don't flatter yourself." She pulled something and then in one quick motion aimed and fired her weapon.
Obi-wan jumped because he thought she was aiming at him but she was aiming at the calvary member behind him who was about to attack.
Obi-wan felt the man's warm blood trickle on the back of his neck.
Piper then pulled her weapon back casually. "We're the good guys." She then turned around. "Now come on, we will explain everything."
