Chapter 40: Hope Shines Through
Aden's POV
If I wanted to fight the Fierce Deity, we first had to escape the dead field that we were stuck in. Neither of us had much power left though, and the door we had used to enter the field was gone. But despite that, The Great Fairy offered to open a portal to where we last were before the battle, that way I could store my own energy for the fight. I wanted to say that we could use a bit of both of our energy, but before I could say anything my arm shot out straight and pointed forward. The Great Fairy transferred her magic to my hand and, using my index finger, carefully traced a perfect circle about a foot in front of me using golden light. Once the two points met together, the inside of the circle shimmered and changed from the barren field to the destruction-filled Hyrule. It led straight into the center of the Hidden Village; back where we all stood when the Deity had swept us away. Taking one last look back at the bodies of my friends, I stepped through the portal and back into the chaos with newfound determination.
It seemed as if everything had only gotten worse after we left for the fight. The bright sky we had seen before was now all blocked out by thick layers of dark clouds which rained down ash like a blizzard of snow. The darkness completely covered the sky, which made it impossible to tell if it was now day or night. It felt much significantly colder as well, like as if we stepped back into Snowpeak instead. However, The Great Fairy was a magical being, so the current weather conditions bothered neither her or me since we had merged.
However, it seemed like the rest of the survivors were not holding up well. They all hid in the few houses that were still standing, trying their best to recover from the raid and its effects. Many held cloths over their face to block out the ash, but many were still wheezing and coughing despite it. Many of the survivors were already badly injured from the raid, so paired with the current conditions, their health only had gotten worse. Any of the wounds the people obtained most likely were infected now because of the volcanic snow. Some Hylians in the houses weren't moving at all.
As we inspected about the village and the survivors remaining, more people stared back. They looked out as if we were an illusion; squinting or rubbing their eyes and head while expecting me to disappear at any moment. Those who were healthy enough to stand walked to the entryway of their house and just stared out in awe. With the light coming from The Great Fairy's wings, I could see just how sickly most of the Hylians were. They were all ghostly pale and it almost seemed as if they were walking corpses. They were all gravely ill, and it pained both of us to see them like this.
"Just know Aden, this is not your doing. If we defeat the Deity and reclaim the Triforce, Hyrule will return to how it was, and peace shall be restored once again." I nodded to her, looking down at my Triforce mark. Most likely due to our merging, my part of the mark was now always shining bright. I decided that I wasn't going to curl up into a ball and wait to die anymore, I was going to set things right here once and for all.
"Is that..?" somebody whispered nearby. I turned to face whoever it was, finding all of the other friends I made in Hyrule. The Resistance, Yeto and Yeta, Agitha, Ilia and even Mr. Clayface all stared at me in awe. They all eyed me up and down, stopping for a moment longer on my Triforce glow and wings. None of them knew how to respond to my sudden appearance, but Ilia looked around me in a slight panic. I assumed that she wondered where Link, Zelda and the others were, but I didn't have the heart to tell them what happened. I knew it wasn't my fault, but I couldn't bear to tell them the fate their friends; thinking about how they would react only made me feel worse. Instead I looked up to the sky to try to find the Fierce Deity and blocked out the whispering.
It was floating high above Hyrule Field, looking down at all of the destruction he had caused over this past week, along with us. The same dark aura that surrounded Adri, Logan and Lora swirled around its body and blade. The Deity had a scornful look to it, ready to rush in and cut us down in the first chance it gets. Taking a deep breath, I focused all of my energy to prepare, then let The Great Fairy's wings carry us upwards as it sprinkled down specs of light, similar to fireflies. The survivors around us looked out in amazement as we flew away; my friends below me did so as well with hopeful expressions.
"YOU GOT THIS KID!" Rusl yelled up to us. I almost flinched after the scream since I wasn't expecting any praise. A few seconds of silence went by, and then more of the survivors chimed in their words of support.
"MAKE THAT MEANIE PAY!"
"Muooooon!"
"WHEN FIGHT IS DONE, YETO AND YETA MAKE YOU BEST SOUP YET!"
"GIVE THAT THING WHAT FOR!"
I smiled at all of the people's cheers. Before I left for the fight everyone was in deep despair, already giving up and accepting death. The only thing that they were all wishing for was a painless death. But now, everyone had regained their hope and was cheering me on, praying that I defeat the Deity and save everybody. I'm not sure what happened to them while we were all away, but I was glad that they haven't given up yet. Giving a wave and a smile back down to everyone, I focused my sights back onto the cursed armor.
We flew higher and higher, even passing the tip of Hyrule Castle (at least what was left of it) to reach the Deity who was still looming above us. While watching him closely to make sure that it didn't try to attack unexpectedly, I considered hitting it right then and there. But I knew that it would leave me vulnerable enough to be destroyed in an instant. I thought I could to wait for it to move first so I could counter it, maybe listen to it explain why it put Hyrule through all of this suffering. But then I realized.
'This isn't the calm warrior I think it is. This is a soldier possessed by armor with a lust for blood. It won't play by some sort of honorable code. If I'm going to beat this thing, I'll need to be unpredictable.'
I began to prepare Farore's Wind as we continued to rise, ready to begin the battle. My heartbeat became faster as we grew closer. The Deity continued to look down on me, but I had no idea what was going through its mind or what it was planning. I wondered if the soldier that was being possessed even knew what was going and trying to fight back. But I shook the thought out of my mind, trying to focus. But soon after I did so, I heard some sort of noise nearby. I became panicked at first since my guard, but I was certain that it was the Deity. So trying to beat it to the punch, I used Farore's Wind, teleported behind the Deity and sent out a shockwave as soon as I reappeared.
But my shockwave kept going. There was nothing in front of me, the Deity had the same idea I had! It didn't take long to see it again; I saw a blur of movement at the corner of my eye, and instinctively used Nayru's Love to protect myself from the oncoming attack. As the sword slammed against the crystal, I saw that the Deity was as I expected him to be: absolutely serious. Since both Zant had found out its weakness, the Memory Orb, the malevolent god wasn't going to be playing games anytime soon. But I noticed something else when the blow landed.
The crystal had cracked.
It may have been small, but when I saw the crystal crack on impact, I was horrified; The Deity had created such a large crack in the crystal in just one strike! The soldier used that fear against me and quickly landed several more blows on the crystal with lightning speed, making it close to shatter. I tried to use Farore's Wind to teleport to safety, but before I could do so, the crystal shattered. It's shards danced in the air for a moment along with the ash before they all vanished with a blue flash.
I rushed the process of Farore's Wind, forcing the energy throughout my body to try and teleport out of the way of the way before we were hit. I could feel ourselves begin to vanish, but the Deity's sword sliced through the air and sliced a wide gash on my left arm! I yelped in pain as we teleported, but it was muffled by the darkness in between. I was thankful that the cut was only slightly deeper the surface of the skin, but it still burned with pain due to the dark energy that flowed from the Deity's sword. I faltered for a moment after appearing to hold my arm as if it would somehow stop the pain. But I saw in that brief second that the gash made only seconds ago was starting to seal itself, cleaning up my blood in the process. It still burned as if magma was poured into my skin and melting what was inside, but it was at least closing itself to prevent any further damage.
"I shall tend to our wounds, it is up to you to battle the Fierce Deity!" I did what I was told, trying to find the Deity again. When I saw another blur, I thrusted out our uninjured arm and fired blasts of Din's Fire everywhere I thought I saw it. I fired over and over again until my ears started to ring from the explosions, but I wasn't able to see if I landed a single hit. But then I stopped, realizing what it was trying to do.
'It's trying to tire me out, make myself drain all of my energy so it can strike when I'm weak.' I was about to stop shooting, but if I did then the possessed soldier would take the opening that I had given it. My mind flashed back to the battles between Lora and the ghost at the desert tower. When both of them were inside the orbs, they were stuck there until I touched them or they broke out.
'Aside from the Shade, everything I used the Memory Orbs on was stuck!' After I figured it out, I began to create a Memory Orb with our injured arm, which was still slowly but surely healing. I hid the orb within my cloak to prevent the Deity from seeing it and making a move to counter. Making the sphere no bigger than a human arm, I kept firing while trying to see if it was flying in a set path. If I could throw the orb into its path then I could catch it off guard and steal the Triforce back! I watched its movements but couldn't focus with all of the explosions from Din's Fire. I lowered my arm to stop shooting, listened to where it was going and tried to focus.
Barely seconds after I did so, the Deity rushed at us once again. While I was trying to figure out a pattern, I stopped firing Din's Fire only for a moment, but that opening was all it needed. It flew around and behind us, then began to rush in for a finishing blow. I was able to notice the sudden change and spun around to try and stop it, but I was too slow. It's twisting sword pierced the right half of our torso vertically, clean through without any resistance, leaving the top half dripping my blue blood. I was sure that anything that was still alive in all of Hyrule could hear my scream right then. The dark aura from the sword seeped in as well and coursed through our entire body within moments, and everything began to burn. Every part of our body felt like it was being pumped with lava from the inside out in tune with my heartbeat, melting everything that it touch. We surged backwards more and more with each pulse of pain with our body arching wider each time.
But despite the pain surging through our body, I lifted up the Memory Orb and reached it out to the Deity's gauntlet. Just lifting a finger was grating enough to make me cry, but a voice in my head told me that I had to try to do something. The possessed soldier glanced at the Memory Orb in our hand, then thrusted the sword even deeper, twisting it to try and make me back out from the pain. The blade cut through our insides easily once again, shredding the skin and causing more of the painful aura to flow in. I yelped and gritted my teeth so hard it felt like my jaw would crack, but the rush of pain only helped by arching us backwards. Moving only made the pain worse with each pulse, but with one quick and powerful arm thrust outwards, the Memory Orb surrounded the Deity's right arm.
The twisting sword suddenly vanished, leaving a giant gaping hole in our side, leaking my blood as if it was a waterfall. The Great Fairy was trying all she could to try and heal it before we lost too much blood, but I was already starting to feel weak. Added on with lava coursing through and burning everything, I felt as if I was going to pass out at any second. As I began to feel dizzy, I could see the Deity struggling, trying to use his dark magic to break the arm out of the Memory Orb.
'So I was right!'
Inside of the orb through the dark aura swirling within I could see a leather padding covering a dark, scar-covered arm along with a glove that covered the palm, but not the fingers of the hand. It had been through countless battles, no doubt. The malevolent god didn't notice me as it pounded its fist on the magic orb without a hint of progress. With every ounce of energy I had left, I reached into the Memory Orb and grasped firmly onto the Deity's arm, triggering the bright light.
But with a mighty shove, the Deity pushed us far away from him and I lost my grip, flying all the way across the sky of Hyrule Field! Before we were sent soaring off of the edge of Hyrule, The Great Fairy stretched out the wings to slow us down, making us go into a wide backflip. Once we were up straight again, we floated in the air to try and prepare for battle again. But I was still extremely weak; the hole in our body was still wide open and more blood kept spilling out. I tried to raise our hands and channel more energy to get ready, but the pulsing pain and blood loss held me back from doing so. Simply lifting a finger felt like torture to me, and I was already light-headed from the wound.
'The Memory Orb didn't work. We couldn't get the Triforce back.' I thought, smiling at how useless our attempt was in the end. The Great Fairy openly panicked, trying to help as much-and fast-as she could. But I knew it wouldn't work; with the blood loss and how painful it was to even blink, I had a feeling that it wouldn't be long until I saw Midna again. I thought about how much I missed her and how much I wanted to see her again, but the pain quickly replaced out those thoughts. Besides, how could she want to see me after seeing the way I acted towards the Golden Goddesses?
A bright yellow light interrupted my mental image of Midna, slowly getting brighter with every moment. I was still unable to lift my head due to the pain, so I very slowly looked up to the source, all the while our eyes throbbed with each pulse. My eyes stung from the bright light, but through it I could see an outline of a small triangle, and instantly my spirits were lifted.
"The Triforce of Wisdom!" The Great Fairy yelled with relief. "It may not be the Triforce as a whole, though any is still worthy as a success! Our efforts were not in vain!" The Triforce speeded from the Deity all the way to my left hand, joining my own middle piece. Then suddenly, a feeling similar to The Great Fairy's tears began to sweep through me. It spread from our hand, up through the arm and then scattered to the rest of the body! The power of the Triforce of Wisdom managed to relieve the burning pain caused by the Deity's dark aura, letting me move freely without the threat of pain. As it went down our lower body, the hole sealed up quickly, leaving not even a scar behind where it had been! As the sensation went up through our head, my dizziness faded away completely and the blood I was beginning to choke on had vanished! I was as good as new again!
Before either The Great Fairy or myself could say anything about that, the Triforce of Wisdom on my mark began to glow with a sky blue light. I lifted the hand up, surprised that I was able to do it so easily, and looked at it closely. It wavered on the surface as if it had turned to water when the piece entered my hand. Ripples appeared and became more quick and violent the longer I stared at it, and when it began to shake as if there was an earthquake, a drop of blue light rose up from the puddle, hovering above my hand as the puddle turned back into skin. I took a quick look at the Deity; it was tightly holding the hand that I used the Memory Orb on. Its fingers were twitching and the arm that was normal was thrashing violently in all directions. It seemed like it had no control of the arm while it was in the current form.
Directing my attention to the drop of light, it had floated above us, just in arms reach. It glowed slightly brighter as my left hand began to itch, and then its form began to stretch and take its form. It grew wide and thin, taking the shape of what seemed like a slender sword. As it continued to take form, the light grew brighter to where it was blinding even through my eyelids, but it did not hurt thanks to The Great Fairy's power. After about ten more seconds, the light quickly dimmed down and showed the form of the rapier I thought it was: Zelda's rapier. But looking closer at it, there was something about it that seemed special.
The grip of the sword was the same as Zelda's rapier, right down to its fabric and color.. But everything else was different. The pommel and crossguard were still golden and still had the symbols from Zelda's, but now they were curved downward into a complete spiral, along with with black orbs in the center of the curls and pointed spikes on the tops of each. Across the rain-guard there were stripes of pure white, which curved with the curls and spikes of the sword. Lastly, the blade of the rapier was now also pure white, similar to the strips down below on the rain-guard. It seemed the same as Zelda's rapier, but it also had touches of something else that I've seen before. I reached up to grab the rapier and plucked it out of the air; It felt weightless. The white stripes and blade seemed familiar to me, but it was hard to wrap my head around what it was.
'It feels like it's a combination of two weapons, but what's the other?'
"Aden, the Deity!" The Great Fairy warned. I looked back up from the sword to see what was wrong. Across the field, the Fierce Deity was still struggling with the arm it couldn't control, but the dark aura was now swirling around it. The twitching and jerking arm had lost its energy below where the Deity was holding it, meaning that the armor had full control of the soldier's body once again. The aura flooded into the arm as it became fully limp, then when it had all been absorbed, the leather glove changed back into the gauntlet of the Deity. I looked back at the sword for a quick moment to clear my thoughts. 'I can think about the other half later. Whatever this is I can try and use it against the Deity, so focus on the fight!'
I lifted our head up again to the Deity. It was once again staring right at me; its expression only had a slight change now with a touch of annoyance. I shifted into a fighting stance with the rapier preparing for the fight, then noticed that I managed to get into the perfect fighting stance for using a sword. I assumed that it was because of the Triforce of Wisdom and let go of those thoughts, making sure to not let the Deity catch me off guard again. Across the field, the Deity summoned its sword and then rocketed to me. It held the sword high above its head, ready to slice my body in two. Without thinking I lifted the sword up, put our left hand on the flat side of the blade, then thrusted it above my head as the Deity got close. Sparks flew as the two swords collided, but thankfully the rapier didn't snap in two like I was secretly worrying about. The Deity looked at the sword up and down, visibly shocked at the new weapon. So giving the cursed armor a taste of its own medicine, I shoved it away and sent out multiple Pointed Shockwaves with our free hand.
The Deity regained its senses and used the twisting blade to block the shockwaves with its blade. So I tried to take the offensive and flew towards it at high speeds, slashing the rapier horizontally through the air. The god dodged out of the way, but at the same time a strong and sudden gust of wind blew in from the left. My cloak flapped from the strong gust and I brought an arm up to shield myself, but I managed to stay in place while the Deity began to struggle since it wasn't expecting that. It was then I realized just what the other half of the blade was.
'Logan's Wind Waker!'
I didn't have time to think about why the rapier was combined with Logan's baton. The gust of wind vanished just as quick as it appeared, letting the Deity get another chance to strike. Not wasting the moment, it rushed at me once again but I fluently parried the twisting sword with mine. It seemed that along with the weapon, I also gained the knowledge of how to use it properly and efficiently! I countered the Deity's twisted sword twice more and a bright spark flashed with each connection. The Deity thrusted its sword and the Great Fairy moved us out of the way in time, almost making a cut in my cloak.
'Okay think. This sword is Logan's baton, meaning it can do the same things that Logan was able to do. I just need to use it like Logan did, but how do I do it?' As I blocked another attack from the Deity and it tried to overpower me, I recalled when I first saw Logan use the Wind Waker the way he normally did. He brought it over his shoulder and then flicked it down to the ground, causing a tornado to appear. I formed a plan quickly in my head again with the influence of the Triforce of Power.
'Great Fairy, get me away from the Deity!' I asked. As the wings pulled us backwards, I leaned to the right and let the sword fall along with me, causing the Deity to falter. As the wings carried me higher, I began to copy Logan's movements to summon a tornado. The malevolent god, quickly trying to make up for its mistake, rushed at me again, but as it did I flicked the rapier down and summoned the giant cyclone of wind! The possessed soldier floated in the center, clearly struggling to try and prevent itself from getting flung in every possible direction while wait for an opening to attack. I could feel my clothes getting sucked in as well, but I was still held in place by the wings.
'Alright, what else could I do? What else could Logan do?' Aside from wind, I remember Logan using lightning in the previous battle, summoning it to break Link and I appart. But I wasn't able to see how he did it, and because I didn't have that much time my panicking mind couldn't remember any other times when Logan did that. 'But maybe I don't need to copy Logan's movements. Maybe I could just try summoning the lightning my own way?'
I could feel the wind start to disperse, meaning that the Deity was going to rush me again soon. I raised the rapier high, pointing it skyward, then slashed it downwards to cut the air in front of us. Raining down from the dark clouds above us, a bolt of orange lightning cracked down and struck The Fierce Deity! Its body surged from the impact, and the Deity let out a loud grunt from the pain. I smiled from my success, but it soon went away when I saw the Deity manage to push through that too. It clutched a part of its chest while giving a menacing glare.
'Alright, more then!'
I raised the rapier skyward again and rotated it in the air; the clouds above us swirled and mixed along with it. The cursed armor prepared its blade to shoot more dark energy at us, but I didn't give it a chance to strike and brought down the sword with all of the force I had! More lightning rained down all around us, each striking the ground with a thunderous CRACK! The Fierce Deity maneuvered as much as it could to dodge the lightning while constantly trying to make its way towards us, but we didn't have to worry about any electricity coming our way. Another bolt of lightning struck one of the Deity's gauntlets, making it stop once again. I prepared myself for in case the Deity was able to push through the pain and reach us, but then it looked back to me with a crazed look on its face. Recovering from the hit, it raised the twisting sword skyward, just like I had done earlier. With one more CRACK, one of the final bolts of lightning struck the twisting blade! Electricity rippled through it and the Deity seemed unmoved. The dark aura that surrounded the sword was replaced with the lightning as well, turning from its original orange color to dark purple and corrupting it with its own energy. Since all of the lightning around us stopped, and the Deity was given a clear path to us.
'Oh no.'
The Fierce Deity pointed the twisting sword at us as it started to crack from the lightning. The Great Fairy and I both had the same idea, and we flew out of the way. From the tip of the sword a streak of purple lightning shot out but, unlike a normal lightning bolt, it still kept its form even after a few seconds! The lightning kept soaring in the direction the Deity pointed its sword, leaving a booming sound and static feeling in the air. The possessed soldier moved its sword to point at us again and the purple lightning followed it, which in turn followed us. The streak was close to touching our back, and I could feel the air above our wings crack purely from the intensity. The Great Fairy dived down then soared upwards to try and throw the Deity off track, but I couldn't see an opening from where we were currently. So I had to try and think of what to do fast!
'This isn't just Logan's baton, it's Zelda's rapier too. What could the rapier do?' I recalled once again when the Goddesses of Wisdom and Courage gave each of their respective Triforce bearers gifts for our quest. Zelda's gift was that her Rapier could turn into a Bow of Light and also shoot Arrows of Light. All she had to do was hold it upright and it would transform.
'If this sword has Logan's powers' I thought 'it must have Zelda's too!' While The Great Fairy focused on flying us away from the danger, I raised the rapier upright in front of us and reached out with other other hand just behind the blade. Then as I suspected, light surrounded the blade and created the bow, but no arrows. Assuming that I would simply need to draw back the string, I did so as an Arrow of Light materialized, and so I aimed at the Deity. The lightning was getting dangerously close now; the Deity was starting to predict The Great Fairy's movements. If I was going to hit the Deity, I would have to surprise it somehow.
Channeling my own power, I prepared Farore's Wind as we continued to dodge the dark lightning. I drew the bowstring back farther, causing more light to surround the notched arrow along with a small gust of wind, then let it fly towards the Deity. The arrow's twirling swirled the air around it, making a small tornado just around itself. The purple lightning stopped, which meant that the Deity shifted its attention from us to the arrow. Taking the opening that I made, I used Farore's Wind and teleported under the malevolent god and aimed upwards. Using three fingers this time, I pulled the bowstring back once again, making three arrows of light appear instead of one. Above us the Deity brought the sword behind him as the arrow approached, and I was convinced that it didn't notice us teleport! Pulling back the bowstring as far as I could, I could feel the knuckles whiten as I tightened my grip around the rapier. As the first arrow I fired grew closer to the target, I fired the three I had notched upwards with great intensity.. The wind from the three arrows combined threw me down further to the ground, but the wings helped stopped my sudden plummet.
Above us, the Arrow of Light and Fierce Deity had almost collided, and it still appeared to not notice the arrows below. 'The Deity has to be hit by one. Once that happens, I'll get the next Triforce piece!' I smiled as The Great Fairy helped me get upright again. But when the arrow overhead had finally reached the Deity, the dark warrior swung its sword downwards, deflecting and sending the arrow down to us! But combined with the Deity's dark lightning, the arrow of light had been filled and corrupted with dark energy! The three arrows I had sent up to the Deity all collided with the dark arrow simultaneously, and from it came a blinding flash! My eyes filled with pain, similar to if a person were to stare at the sun for too long, and all I could see was white. The Great Fairy's healing power quickly fixed that, but I knew that the Deity was going to use this. From what I could see through the white, the Deity was soaring down to me, ready to make a fatal cut through my body. Trying to block, I put the sword up again and pressed firmly, but then I remembered too late.
'The lightning!'
The twisting sword clashed with mine again and then conducted the electricity through the metallic blade, shooting up our right arm! The inside surged with pain like I had never felt before; it felt as if the muscles in our arm were all catching on fire, ready to burst at any moment. The scream I had let out was quick from the initial shock, then skyrocketed in volume from the internal pain. It twitched and bulged from the electric surge, and I was unable to control any part of it. The blindness I had before was replaced with the agonizing pain from the lightning, leaving me wide open for the Deity. It readied the twisting blade again to slice through my chest and finish me off, but I didn't even notice at the time. I dropped the Rapier because I couldn't control my arm and then it exploded into golden light! The Deity faltered for a moment, not expecting the sudden flash, then The Great Fairy used that chance to fly us away.
Even though lightning wasn't coursing directly into our arm anymore, the pain was unbearable. The burning feeling still remained, and The Great Fairy's magic barely had any affect to null the pain. I looked at it to see what the damage was; most of the arm was now red, but no burn marks were on there. But our hand burned the most out of all of it, since it was directly touching the electrified metal. I tried to lift my hand up to my face to see if I had to use a Memory Orb. But I couldn't. I tried again to move my arm, to wiggle my fingers even a little, but it remained limp. The lightning had completely paralyzed our arm!
Then I remembered the rapier exploding into light, and I panicked even more. I worried if it was gone forever since I let go of it, and now I had to fight with just one arm and weak magic. I held out my left hand and tried to bring the rapier back, imagining it in my hand again. To both of our relief, the weapon appeared in our hand after a quick flash of light again, a little more dim than the last time. I gripped it tight, preparing to get back into the battle, but then I remembered the paralyzed arm. If it stayed like that, then I wouldn't be able to block with either the sword or Nayru's Love, use Pointed Shockwaves or Memory Orbs. I considered letting go of the sword and healing my arm, but then I caught a glimpse of the Deity. It had recovered from the blinding flash and had it's sword ready to attack, but it didn't move. It was prepared for something, and I quickly realized what it was. If I let go of the sword and used a Memory Orb, it would leave me defenseless. I wouldn't block or be able to fight back; the Deity could just fly around me and strike as I was healing. I would have to fight with a limp arm until I managed to get another piece of the Triforce.
'Damn it…'
I prepared the rapier again while trying to think of what to do next. The Deity still expected me to use a Memory Orb, so it waited patiently for me to make my move. So I used that chance and tried to make up a plan. I knew that since I could only use one of our arms, I could either use the Rapier or my own magic, minus Nayru's Love and the Bow of Light. There would be no way for me to block; I would have to rely on The Great Fairy's flight to get me away from danger.
"The Fierce Deity had been caught off guard as the rapier vanished," The Great Fairy thought with me, "because it did not expect that it would happen, just as you did not either."
'So what could I do that the Deity wouldn't expect?' I tried to think of other things that Logan did with his baton and what Zelda could do with her Rapier, but nothing new came to mind. I had learned all there was to the rapier (or at least I thought I had). Then I tried to think of what the Deity wouldn't expect me to do with a limp arm: use Nayru's Love, block with the Rapier, use the Bow of Light, cast two spells at the same time-
'Wait a minute.' An idea suddenly hit. 'Do I need to use both hands to fight with the bow?'
The Great Fairy's wings suddenly jerked me up, snapping me back to the fight. Underneath me, the Deity had just swung its sword where we were floating. 'It must have seen me deep in thought.' The Great Fairy's wings flew us away quickly, leaving me tightly gripping the blade to make sure it didn't disappear again. Trying to piece together a plan quickly in my head, I started to bring the rapier over my shoulder to conjure a tornado. As I did, however, a streak of purple lightning appeared in front of us, cutting off our flight path and making me lower the blade. I took a glance at the Deity as the wings pulled us away from danger again; it was flying towards us while casting the lightning at the same time, and it was flying much faster than we were. The possessed soldier would reach us quickly if we simply kept flying away, so I kept trying to think of something I could do to catch the Deity off guard.
'Do something it won't expect, just do something unpredictable!'
Not wanting the Deity to catch up to us, I quickly brought the rapier over our shoulder and then spun around to face the god head on. I flicked the blade in its direction and a powerful tornado formed around the Deity, stopping it in its tracks. Still trying to keep itself in one place, it kept firing the lightning from the tip of its blade to try and paralyze the rest of my body. When I felt the static in the air increase in intensity, I put my plan into action.
I prepared Farore's Wind and focused as hard as I could while The Great Fairy kept flying us out of the lightning's path. I gathered as much energy as I could and focused it on the spell, but I was difficult to focus on where I wanted to go while The Fierce Deity assaulted us with lightning. Trying as hard as I could, I stared intently on the spot right next to the Deity then closed our eyes. The image of where the god was stranded stuck within my mind, so I blocked out everything else to focus on that mental image. Through the roaring wind, static and sudden movements of the wings, I managed to imagine myself in that one spot and activate Farore's Wind as the tornado vanished. When I reappeared, I was only inches away from the Deity's face, and it had just stopped firing the lightning. The god turned its sword horizontally to try and slice me in two, but before it could do that I lifted up the rapier to its face and let it go, sparking another bright flash. The Deity covered its face with one of the gauntlets to try and block out the flash of light then tried to swing its sword, so I used Farore's Wind to teleport high above the god before we were chopped in half.
When we reappeared I wasted no time and pointed the rapier skyward, stirred the clouds quickly with wide circling motions and hoping that rushing the actions wouldn't cause the lightning to stay dormant in the clouds. As the darkness overhead began to swirl faster, the ash around us began to fly upwards with the wind. I looked down at the Deity to see how much time I had left; it had almost fully recovered from the flash and was searching for us with its limited vision. The clouds above us flashed bright orange light above us every few seconds, followed by thunder soonafter. With the wind and thunder changing around us, I knew that it wouldn't be long before the Deity figured out what was going on. So right as the Deity finally regained its vision and looked up, I flicked the rapier downwards at the Deity, letting the lightning crack down!
The streaks of electricity appeared and disappeared all around, even faster than before! The Deity dodged left and right to avoid getting electrocuted, but similar to last time all of the lightning curved around my body, even when it appeared directly above us. While the Deity was focused on out-maneuvering the lightning, I used Farore's wind once more to teleport below it and got the Great Fairy's wings to hold me in one place. But as I held the blade upright to me to begin my plan, the Deity stopped where it was, pointed its blade up to the clouds once again and shot purple lightning into the darkness above. The lightning around us stopped, and the static vanished from the air. As I looked up at the clouds, I saw that the bright orange flashes in the clouds began to grow darker in color.
'Oh no!'
I made the Bow of Light form around the blade and gripped the handle as tight as I possibly could. The Deity lowered its sword and began to search once more as the flashes of light above turned into the color of the dark lightning. I kicked my right leg up and planted it on the other side of the bow while trying to force my left hand to keep the bow steady. A streak of purple lightning cracked down from the clouds, only narrowly missing my head and almost making me lose my grip. I reached our teeth out to the bowstring and bit down hard on it, making sure that no matter how far I pulled back the string, it would stay that way. As I pulled our head back and extended my leg and arm, more streaks of purple lightning cracked down, each closer than the one before. As the Deity finally found me, three arrows of light materialized, notched within the bowstring. It soared down towards me after flinching, ready to obtain the final pieces of the Triforce and destroy Hyrule for good, but when the possessed soldier was as close as it could be, I released the bowstring and let the arrows soar.
All three connected with their target perfectly, and the Deity stopped dead in its tracks! Each of the arrows exploded into orbs of light, which exploded outwards and then swarmed into the Deity, delving into the darkness that was within. The god's body writhed in pain from the impact, and its body began to glow with golden light. The Light Arrows were able to stun the possessed solder for a moment as it became corrupt with light! I flicked the rapier back to its original form as more streaks of purple lightning cracked down around us, each becoming farther apart in time.
'Now!'
We rocketed towards the Deity with the blade aimed at the center of its chest. I knew that this wouldn't be enough for a finishing blow, but it would at least give me a chance to get close enough and use a Memory Orb. I gripped the rapier as tight as I possibly could, making sure that there would be no way for me to miss this opportunity. The golden light around the Deity began to fade and its body had gone limp, aside from its gauntlet which had tightened its grip around its blade as well. As we got closer, I formed a Memory Orb around the grip, hoping that the corrupt armor wouldn't notice. When I was face to face with the chaotic god, it sprung forward and dug the sword into my right shoulder as I plunged the rapier into its chest! I yelped in pain, then screamed as the dark lightning began to course through the rest of my body. The agonizing pain I had felt only in my arm was enough to make me almost shut down, but feeling it throughout my entire body felt as if my body would burst! I began to lose control of everything; my heart stopped beating, my legs went limp, and my head rolled forwards. My grip around the sword faded and the rapier disappeared once again in a flash, letting our body lurch forwards on its own. Falling from my lack of balance and consciousness and my left hand landed on the Deity's chestplate. The Memory Orb surrounded its armor and shined bright once again, changing the chestplate back to the old soldier's armor!
This is just part 1, but don't worry! I have the rest written, so I just need to edit it! I just thought that after over half a year of waiting, you would all want something to read. The second half of the fight will be posted soon!
