Three days.
Three days and thirty minutes since the last Galra battle cruiser has been seen. It's as if they've completely disappeared. Every single scout that Lance sent out returned with the same news. Their scanners showing nothing but the vast emptiness of space.
Something's up. Lance stood in a clearing her eyes fixated on the sky. The stars sparkled like they always had as if the universe wasn't in the middle of a war. The trees surrounding the clearing were filled with a warm breeze.
It was almost peaceful.
Lance spun around and in one smooth motion her arm wrapped around Shiro's throat? Realizing who it was she instantly released him.
"Oh my god Shiro, I'm so sorry," Lance held a hand over her mouth her eyes wide.
Shiro waved her off as he rose to his feet, "I'm fine." He looked around noticing the wind blowing through the trees. "It's quiet out here," he said after a while his eyes closed.
"Yeah it is," Lance agreed a soft smile playing on her lips.
This was the first time in a while that she had the chance to step away from everything. The first time she had to actually take for herself. Her life had become a sea of chaos since the day Jarep left with not a word about where he was headed.
"I hate to bring this up now..."
"Then don't."
"Excuse me?"
"What ever you've come out here to get me for don't say it."
"But-"
"Please Shiro!" Lance asked earnestly, "Just for a little bit,"
Shiro noticed her words fade to a whisper. He noticed how she stood in the clearing her arms gently wrapped around herself, her head turning to look back up at the sky.
"Lance? Are you okay?" Shiro asked coming closer.
Lance didn't reply right away. She took her time gathering her thoughts and enjoying the stars for a few seconds longer.
"Yes? Maybe? I don't know." she groaned as she ran her hands through her hair. She kicked at a stick lying on the ground not quite facing Shiro.
"Look I know this is-"
"Shh."
"Lance, I'm trying to offer advice-"
"Shh." Lance whirled around a finger planted firmly to her lips. Shiro narrowed her eyes at her watching as she turned back to face the forest.
From where she stood Lance listened her eyes trailing back and forth. She had heard a high pitch squeal that sounded a lot like a plane going into a nose dive, which would be impossible, so it must be something else, but what?
She heard the noise again to her right and then to her left. Then all of a sudden it was everywhere. That's when she looked up.
The sky was a bright fiery red. Yellow streaks of smoke decorated the sky. Galra fighters swarmed the sky firing at anything and everything.
Without looking back Lance darted back towards the base Shiro right behind her. She should've been back at the base. She should've been alerted to them entering the atmosphere. This was on her and if anyone died tonight it would be on her hands.
"Get everyone who is not skilled to fight to an escape pod and off this planet!" the orders began to roll of her tongue as soon as the door swung open, "The rest of you get to the weaponry and grab what you can to fight back!" she turned to Shiro, "I'm sorry but I can't fly the blue lion they need me down here.
Shiro nodded, "We'll do what we can with three lions." then he was out the door and headed towards the castle of lions.
"But sir? are you sure you want to hold back the troops from landing?" a galra officer asked.
"I want their leader in full view before I decide anything."
"Yes sir." the officer saluted before running to alert the rest to the plan.
"Very wise move Zhamoht." Haggar said from his side, "I'm glad you changed your mind about making the first move."
"This battle. If you can't change your plans at a moments notice then you will be easily defeated." Zhamoht rose from his seat placing his hands behind his back. He approached the window having a clear view of the burning ground below.
Just beyond the burning grass and destroyed earth a small band of beings appeared, weapons drawn. Leading them was their brown-haired, blue-eyed leader. Zhamoht smiled. This was going to be easier than he thought.
The same officer returned to the room a few seconds later to receive new orders. He stood in front of the door his arm firmly placed across his chest.
From his place in front of the window he watched as his opponents made their way through the burning brush looking for his soldiers only not to find any.
"Send the sentries out no one leaves unscathed, except for their leader. I'd like to have a chat with her." He shared a knowing glance with Haggar. It was going to be way more than a chat, but two people who are loyal to Zarkon need not explain that.
"Where the hell are all the sentries?" Lance yelled. There was no way the Galra were going to bomb a planet and just leave.
That's when she noticed the ship rapidly taking off back towards the sky. Haitheil then pointed out the sentries headed their way.
"Alright everyone get ready," Lance called back to her small group of agents.
Out of nowhere came a second group of agents right behind them taking down four of the seven agents. Lance, Haitheil, and a new recruit were the only ones who hadn't been taken captive, but that didn't last long when a sentry fired, shooting the recruit through the neck.
Lance screamed and let out a string of curses raising her blaster to return the gesture. An unnatural scream came from Haitheil. Lanced turned back to find her number two curled up on the ground cradling her leg. Another fresh wound in her shoulder.
"Put your hands up or she dies," the sentry placed the blaster to her head.
Glaring at the sentry she dropped the weapon and slowly raised her hands. She was going to make sure that the person responsible was going to pay.
"Lance..."
"Haitheil," she said her eyes never leaving the sentry, "When the others find you or you find the others tell them what happened. They'll take it from there."
Haitheil didn't have a chance to respond before Lance was forced to walk toward the descending battle cruiser in the distance.
