Index Astartes: The Emperors Children- Heirs of perfection

"My sons the darkness falls and Terra calls, the Aquila spreads its wings as the campaign begins, may Terra lay claim to this companies name, nine pillars of wisdom shield the flame of Man. Onwards my sons!" Fulgrim at the beginning of the Emperors Children push to Terra.

Origins

"There's forty thrones upon the drum for those who volunteer to come to 'list and fight the Xenos today Through the Warp and far away." Through the warp and far away a folk song first written by Fulgrim for use on Chemos for recruitment purposes and later used by the entire Imperium.

"Fulgrim are you sure that this man deserves our loyalty?" Future Lord Commander Eidolon to Fulgrim upon the discovery of Chemos.

The pod of the third Primarch would land upon the mining world of Chemos a world that would that the Age of Strife would devastate more than usual. The world was far from the twin sons of the system it called home and the orbital dust cloud placed the world in eternal twilight making food growth impossible.

All that would change when Fulgrim came to the world. He would be found by a group of miners from the hive of Callax they would manage to convince the overseer that the child deserved to live. Fulgrim like all of the Primarchs would grow incredibly quickly alongside his need to eat less than any normal human. Fulgrim would soon develop technologies and systems that made the production of Callax skyrocket allowing the planet to trade for more food and other resources that were unavailable to the planet at the time. This would allow for the restrictions on the population to be lifted and for the long neglected Chemosian culture to be reborn with the motif of the Phoenix becoming especially popular in the artwork of the time. Due to this and the recolonization of the planet Fulgrim would be proclaimed as Grand prince of Callax and Phoenix King of Chemos by the parliament of the planet. Then the Emperor arrived.

Fulgrim would kneel to the Emperor immediately as the familial ties were incredibly strong and he would be proclaimed as lord of the Third Legion. The Emperor would then take Fulgrim back to Terra to meet his Legion all 200 of them. Fulgrim would with the permission of his father name them the Emperors Children. With the influx of Gene-seed from their father and recruits from Chemos the newly named Emperors Children would quickly begin to grow, and their tactics would be refined to a single point perfection.

The Great Crusade

"Emperors Children death to his foes." War cry of the Emperors Children during the Great Crusade.

"Once More unto the breach my brothers once more!" Lord Commander Eidolon at the first assault on the Laer temple.

During the Great Crusade the Third legion would have some of the largest number of human civilizations pacified by any other legion with only the Dark Angels, Imperial Fists and Ultramarines having more confirmed conquests. The strategy of the Emperors Children would become more and more refined as the wars went on with the Legion often having the greatest individual warriors with Astartes that could defeat challengers from most other legions, however the legion had a large problem with teamwork as each Astarte was so specialised that he could not work in any group due to incredible specialization. The most important campaign of the Emperor's Children would be the Lear campaign wherein the seeds of heresy would be watered.

The Lear were a race of snakelike beings who had taken the idea of caste society to the most extreme extant with genetic modification to allow certain castes of the population to excel at the task delegated to them, they were one of the strongest Xenos empires remaining in the galaxy with the Ork Empire of Ullanor already having been broken, the empire was so powerful that part of the Imperial Senate was suggesting that the Empire be made into a protectorate due to the number of casualties that would be taken, this would infuriate Fulgrim who would proclaim that he and his legion would pacify the empire within a month. The opening stages of the campaign would take the Lear race by surprise with the border fleets would be destroyed within the first few days of the campaign. The Lear forces would rally however and provided a worthy challenge to the Emperors Children with the Lear forces often being able to make the Emperors Children pay for every step of ground. The Lear would slowly be driven back until the capital world was the last remaining planet with only four days left. The fleets would be shattered on the third last day and the debris began to rain down upon the mighty seas of the world. The Drop Pods were launched with the Astartes within ready to kill. The cities were soon reduced into rubble with only the Temples at heart of each city as the last bastion of the Lear species. Most were destroyed save for one a singular temple on an isolated island where the last remaining organised military forces gathered around the Temple preparing for a last stand. Then the Dark Angels arrived the Emperors Children had already launched two assaults both beaten back at great cost, Lion El'jonson would instead of asking permission to join in the assault and instead launched a Marco-cannon barrage upon the Temple pulverising the centre of the island and obliterating the Temple and everything in it. This action would cause a massive rift between the two legions with Horus forced to order the two legions to other sides of the galaxy.

The Horusian Heresy

"Arise, Arise sons of Fulgrim! Spears shall be shaken, armour shall be splintered, a sword-day a blood day ere Sol rises, Fight now fight for ruin and the worlds ending! Death! Death! Death! Forth Emperors Children" Fulgrim at the battle of Prospero leading the relief force to the Thousand Sons at the head of the Phoenix Guard.

"You claim to be master of blades you are pathetic the only man who can beat me is Sigismund you are not even close. Come die Hasik." Lucius the Great to Hasik Noyan-Khan before killing him during the assault on the Swordstorm.

The Emperors Children was one of the Legions that were devastated at Isstvan with high numbers of dead and large portions of the legion broken. The remaining forces managed to hack their way through the traitor fleets and would flee to Chemos when they received word from Prospero a desperate request for aid. The Legion would go to aid their loyalist brothers in the Thousand Sons. Alongside the battle of Prospero, they would participate in the battle of Molech.

The Battle of Prospero when the Emperors Children arrived was a rear-guard action desperately trying to hold off the White Scar forces. The Emperors Children managed to catch the Whites Scars on the flank with the ships holding orbit and continuing the bombardment of Prospero. The relief force would be divided in two one led by Fulgrim leading the relief on the ground while a force led by Lucius assaulting the flagship of the White Scars Swordstorm. The landing force would attack the assembled White Scars Hordes assaulting the Pyramid of Photep the defence commanded by Magnus the Red while the White Scars were unsuited to the urban combat required to the battle of Tizca. Fulgrim would catch the force in the side however too late to stop the ritual fuelling the destruction of the Imperial Webway wards and the ascension of Jaghatai Khan. Fulgrim and Magnus would attack the avian centaur together. The duel would be long the nine arms of the Daemon Primarch would prove useful. In space Lucius's force would take control of the Swordstorm however the damage used to take it alongside the broadsides from the White Scars ships caused the ships orbit to begin to decay. Lucius would notify his Primarch of this and the evacuation would speed up until Prospero was abandoned save for the loyalist forces equipped with teleport equipment and the White Scars. Fulgrim would order Swordstorm to ram the planet and Lucius obeyed. As the ship was about to connect the loyalists would teleport away, Jaghatai and the senior leadership of his legion would also escape while the rest would be wiped out by the shockwave of the ship.

The battle of Molech was a brutal battle towards the end of the Heresy when the fortress world was assaulted by force from the Sons of Horus and the Ultramarines against the Emperors Children and Imperial Knights legion the traitor forces would be commanded by Horus himself. The battle would be long and brutal with each step being fought over as fiercely as if it was their homeworld itself for many it was. However, the numbers that the loyalists were fighting against were just far too many. The Ultramarines were used perfectly by Horus as endless hosts of Astartes swarming the defences, the Nurgle blessed Astartes each took on more shots than any other non-Nurgle worshipping Astartes. The planet would eventually fall, and the eight-pointed star flew over the highest point and greatest fortress.

The Scouring

"Brother what have you sold your soul to a spirit of rot and decay a spirit of pestilence and disease. I am sorry for this." Fulgrim to Roboute Guilliman at the second battle of Calth.

"I am Lucius swordmaster of the Emperors Children lord of blades and regent of Chemos, oh I forgot I'm also your death." Lucius the Great to the leaders of the Lunar revolt.

During the Scouring the Emperors Children would spend most of their time terra-forming Chemos back into a liveable state once more from the Dark Angels Virus-bombing. However, they would not sit ideally by as the Imperium struck back at the traitors that had torn mankind in twain. The Emperors Children would focus on the Ultramarines as the Dark Angels had fled far away and would be only found after the First Battle of Calth. The World of Calth would be the world when the first Ultramar campaign was broken the loyalist fleets were broken and the Astartes that had been landed were slaughtered it would be Fulgrim's greatest failure.

The Dark Angels campaign would be a short one when the loyalist forces tore through the weakened fleet and landed around the newly founded Camelot. The aim was to kill or at least banish Lion El'jonson however the level of fortifications around the throne room was much more than was expected, so when they reached the throne room with a lot less Astartes then needed to defeat the Lion. The Lion was prior to ascension one of the two Primarchs that might be able to beat Fulgrim, following ascension the edge became a lot closer Fulgrim was at the time overconfident and heavily weakened the Lion would slaughter the Astartes and force Fulgrim to teleport back to the Pride of the Emperor. The battle of New Caliban would be a disaster that forced the Emperors Children into a period of recuperation that would last for three years of recruiting and training.

The Second battle of Calth would be the last battle wherein Fulgrim would play a role at all. Roboute Guilliman would command the force from the first of the Macragge class battleships 'The Will of Emperor Guilliman' Fulgrim would command the boarding force. He would manage to fight his way through the ship to the bridge where Guilliman was waiting. The blade that Guilliman was wielding a heavily corrupted Nurglite blade. Fulgrim would manage to stab Guilliman in the chest leaving his back open to a strike Guilliman would make use of this to stab Fulgrim in the back with the Nurglite blade. Fulgrim would be horrifically corrupted and forced to teleport out where he would be placed into a statis chamber the statis chamber however would have a minor flaw in that Fulgrim's mind was still active. As he was rushed back to Chemos he stared in grimace of pain while his mind stayed active and thinking. The wound would prove to have no cure and thus he was left in the chamber with his last act to name his regent as Lucius the one who had taken command of the rear guard leaving Calth.

The Lunar revolt was a brutal battle lead by the first Chaos influenced revolt against the Imperium since the Heresy when a group of Slaaneshi and Tzeentchian cultists took control of a fortress on Luna that had held back the forces of the World Eaters for three weeks. Lucius's first action as the Phoenix Lord of the Emperors Children and regent of Chemos was to crush the revolt. The revolt would be put down quickly but brutally with every cultist slaughtered with three causalities to the Emperors Children. Lucius would command the Emperors Children for the next three hundred years until he was critically wounded and interned in a Dreadnought.

The Forty-First Millennium

"Guardians of the Phoenix King awaken your lord is threatened come aid us come fight for Chemos" The awaking cry for the Dreadnoughts that are the guardians of Fulgrim.

"Sons of the Phoenix you are called together the Imperium needs us all let the Third Legion rise once more." Proclamation of the Rising Phoenix calling together the successor Legions of the Emperors Children together.

As the Dark Millennium dawned the Emperors Children gathered together to fight against the rising darkness while the Thirteenth Black Crusade seems to be coming from the Black Legions dominions within the Eye of Terror, The Ultramarines are gathering for a great plague war and the Zaherialn Crusade is gathering in the Kingdom of New Caliban despite this the Emperors Children are gathering together preparing to fight for the Imperium and Fulgrim.

Organization

"Perfection is vital perfection is how we fight, and you claim to be a swordmaster pathetic." Lucius the Great belittling his trainees.

"When one has reached perfection, you will know you will feel the ability to beat any man, Astartes or Xenos and it is not a lie." A Swordmaster describing the feelings of the greatest members of the Emperors Children when fighting.

The organization of the Emperors Children is simple an applicant is given a weapon and ordered to train with it until he is perfect with it this lasts his entire time as an Astartes. This often leads to squads who are all bale to shoot a fly with a bolter from four hundred metres or swordsmen able to outduel some lesser Khornate daemons. They are all some of the greatest wilders of their chosen skill in the galaxy. When the Emperors Children come to world that stands against them, they will break the enemy with perfect shots dissect the enemy with multiple blows from their blades. The Emperors Children is a paragon of mankind and symbol of man's hopes and abilities.

Primarch

"His ebony face stares in an eternal grimace his purple eyes showing sheer pain and wrath in his hands he still holds a broken Ultramarine pauldron his hatred still visible." Famous scholar Goge Vandire on Fulgrim.

"My brother had his flaws but he was one of the greatest of all of us only Sanguinius was better he was a paragon of man the symbol of what we could achieve if he had fallen he would be the symbol of nought but decadence and depravity." The opening line of the Chapter on Fulgrim in the Historical work The Primarchs: Heirs of the Emperor by Magnus the Red.

Fulgrim has not changed since his discovery. From the ancient days of Chemos he has stayed the same with his beautiful skin that would a sculptor weep, his purple eyes stare out from a perfectly chiselled face. His armour is of the finest make with the Artificer Terminator Armour of 'The Gilded Panoply' shining in the darkness of mankind. Fulgrim today sits in the heart of the Fortress monastery upon Chemos he sits in the statis chamber in the heart of his legion his body frozen but his mind active.

Homeworld

"Chemos is one of the only Legion Homeworlds that is not a brutal harsh wildlife instead Chemos is a civilised world with Banks, universities and great hosts of Astartes training the youth no wonder they are so bloody weak and pampered" Logan Grimmer Great Wolf of the Space Wolves Legion on Chemos.

"Ah the great wastelands of Chemos the endless plains of dusts and rocks those who call us weak are barbarians with no style Chemos is a harsh world in truth." Phoenix Lord Finfgolian on the harshness of Chemos.

Chemos has a large divide between the great cities of the world and barren wastelands. The cities are all technologically advanced and economically productive the average citizen enjoys levels of health, education and physical exercise that makes all, but citizens of Terra have higher living standards. To contrast to the Wastelands that surround the cities which are environments with no vegetation at all, whenever the winds pick up the dust storms tear across the planet if the winds are harsh enough flesh can be shredded from the bones of normal men.

Gene-Seed

"The only flaw I can find is that they have purple eyes and far to pale skin." Azheck Ahriman during the reclamation project on the Third Legion Gene-Seed

"This is unnerving is there a single difference between us? Yes, sir we can have non-white hair." The conversation between an Emperors Child and a Phoenix Blade.

The Gene-Seed of Emperors Children is incredibly pure with only minor mutations in the Gene-Seed ever seen notably albinism and purple eyes. They have formed Four successor Legions the Phoenix Blades, Blades of Chemos, The Imperial Banners and the Sons of the Aquila.
