Index Astartes: White Scars-Lords of Madness
"My Sons allow the madness of Tzeentch to flow through you, let the powers of the warp flow through your flesh. For when we turned our back on the warp that is when mankind fell no, we must embrace the warp and the true gods." Jaghatai Kahn to his legion on the glories of the warp.
Origins
"No man can rule Chorgis, no man can control the great steppes of this world, but I am no man and Chorgis is mine." Jaghatai Khan upon the declaration of the Eastern conquest as the unification of Chorgis was called.
"When the Horse snorts and blades flash when the armies of the Palatine tremble in their boots as their homes burn around them that shall be our triumph." Jaghatai Khan on their goals in the war.
The pod of the fifth Primarch would land upon the world of Chorgis a feudal world dominated by a single continent, most of the planet had been conquered by a nation that had reached the pike and shot levels of Human technology following this the empire known as the Palatine would conquer most of the world save for the most desolate steppes. The steppes were dominated by a large number of nomadic tribes that constantly fought together and would when the mood took them, they would raid and pillage the Palatine. It was the world that Jaghatai Khan would land on in the heart of the great steppes known as the empty quarter, where he would be found by the leader of the small Talaskars tribe one Ong Khan.
Jaghatai Khan would have a relatively peaceful childhood compared to some of his brothers until when he was out leading a raid on a nearby weaker tribe when he returned he would find his home burnt to the ground with Ong Khans head on a stake in the heart of the camp. The only survivor was the tribes stormseer a man who could gain access to the mystic powers of the warp he would take Jaghatai Kahn under his wing and began to teach him how to manipulate the warp. Jaghatai Khan would outstrip his teacher within a few days and would decide to take his revenge on the enemy tribe the Talaskars. The Talaskars would be slaughtered with Jaghatai Kahn searing their flesh from their bones with the fury of the warp the entire camp would be destroyed, and the chief would have his head torn off and placed it on a stake within his Urdu.
Jaghatai Kahn would launch a campaign of conquest and unity across the empty quarter of Chorgis with the stated goal of destroying the Palatine and unifying Chorgis. At one point he would be on a hunting trip and trapped by an avalanche when a group of Palatine hunters led by the heir of the Palatine, the hunters would accidently free the Primarch who would slaughter them all with the corpse of the Palatines crown prince being broken upon the ground and trampled by the vanguard of his great host when the first assault on the Palatine was launched. At first the Palatine forces would beat back the armies of the empty quarter save for those led by the Khan himself, where he would break every army that fought against him. The war would drag on with each side losing thousands annually until a decision was made by the emperor of the Palatine, the largest army ever called together on Chorgis in response to this Jaghatai Khan would gather the hosts of the Empty Quarter together for one great battle. The battle began with a series of volleys from both lines the battle would last for three days until the Kahn would lead a charge through the enemy lines on a direct course to the Palatines emperor with the warp tearing and lashing out around him as he slaughtered the central leadership of an empire. Then he reached the Emperor at first Jaghatai would fight wielding a blade but ended with the Emperor being lit up with warp fire. Following the death of the Emperor the grand army disintegrated and the Kahn's forces would tear through the Palatine destroying and pillaging as they went until the last city fell in an orgy of murder and pillaging. Jaghatai Kahn would be declared as Khagan of Chorgis and lord of the nine winds. As they celebrated a stormseer would use his power to much and Demons poured through his twisted warping flesh. The Daemon wars of Chorgis had started.
For four years the hosts of the warp would slaughter their way across Chorgis with settlement after settlement falling to the hordes of the warp Jaghatai Kahn would manage to kill a lord of change and carve a pair of swords form it bones. The swords managed to permanently kill daemons however it was one of the only things that could the Stormseers could kill some of the weaker demons and the Khan beat a Bloodthirster to death with his bare hands. But no matter what they did more land fell to the demons and the Khan would spend more time researching the depths of the knowledge of the warp users of Chorgis unleashing more and more destructive powers, but the hosts of Chaos were numberless. At the end the last men of Chorgis were gathered at the foot of Its greatest mountain preparing to die fighting when the prow of the Bucephalus broke through the clouds and the Emperor came to Chorgis, at his side marched a host of the Legio Custodes and a detachment from the sisters of silence. The lesser demons in the army would instantly be killed by the emperor appearing and the greater ones were severely weakened by him allowing the Chorgians to go on the offensive. The Emperor would kill every demon on the planet and purify it the most heavily corrupted areas gaining his son's grudging loyalty.
The Great Crusade
"At my beck and call are a legion of soldiers that could tear across this planet, slaughter our men and raze your capital to the ground without you even noticing." Jemulan Noyan-Khan to the planetary leader of Khwarazmian.
"I could tear your souls form your bodies melt the flesh of your guards and reduce your cities to ash and rubble alone." Jaghatai Kahn to the rulers of the world Wizna the worlds defender would be outnumbered 40:1 they would hold out for two years against the White Scars.
During the great crusade the White Scars would take up two main tactics speed attack and one of highest number of Pyskers out of the legions second only to the Thousand Sons. The legion would often fight far ahead of the vanguard of the Great Crusade often defeating reasonably weak empires this would lead to the legion developing a much more autonomous structure and a bitterness towards the other legions, as they would fight and destroy empires that if not for them would hold the Imperium off for several years. There conquests would often not be recorded and thus lost to time leading to a sense that they had been forgotten by the wider Imperium. They would have several major compilations recorded most noticeably the Slaughter of Chasseurs Ardennais and the Death of Micallef.
The world of Chasseurs Ardennais was a heavily forested world with a large number of blanks in the population due to a freak of colonisation. This would cripple half of the legions tactics forcing the campaign to be fought entirely with the traditional tactics of the legion this would lead to heavy casualties with the guerrilla warfare of the natives with the casualties becoming incredibly high for a campaign of that size with the White Scars being forced to use a more firepower then the White Scars usually used. However, the brutal warfare and high casualties would get to the Primarch and he would order the removal of all barriers and direct order to use everything available to the Legion and to leave the least number of survivors possible. Not even these harsh measures managed to break the enemy with their determination becoming even stronger as their culture was destroyed around them. Then the Khan snapped and ordered the withdrawal of all Imperial forces and when the last Astartes had left the planet the fleet opened fire. The mighty forest burnt to ash the mountain ranges were pulverised into dust the oceans would rise swamping the few lowlands on the planet. Chasseurs Ardennais died to salve the Khans ego reflecting terribly back on him and his legion.
The world of Micallef was the capital of a three-systems confederation made up of a forge-world called Hawke and a hive-world known as Matilda. It would be one of the most peaceful compilations that the White Scars would engage in as the world had a large number of libraries on the Pyskic arts that the Khan desired. The people would put up a heavy defence however the Pyskers in the legion tore through the enemy forces and managed to keep the civilian casualties to a minimum. This would endear them to the populace however the government proclaimed that they would fight to the death and beyond releasing a force of proto-dreadnoughts against the White Scars as the casualties rose amongst the defenders the unrest against the government rose and got more powerful until a group of elite soldiers staged a coup against the leadership of the confederation as the doors were battered down a secret weapon was detonated. The weapon would tear apart the planet from the core killing a thousand Legionaries and devasted the fleet in orbit attempting to rescue civilians and military personal.
The Fall of the White Scars
"I have seen thousands of timelines where the leader of the Great Revolt is anyone from Dorn to Vulkan from Russ to Magnus, I have led it as has Fulgrim, Corax has led the war a few times while Lorgar does not often lead. I one timeline I have ridden upon a storm before being deposed by four of my sons. These endless variations and changes all for the glory of Chaos. Some I have chosen to stand with all of the other gods or undivided sometimes I fell in the Revolt sometimes I stand with my Father; the multiverse is strange thing. Glory to Tzeentch." Jaghatai Khan in the heretical book travelling the Multiverse.
"These powers, these abilities what is this? Who are you?" Jaghatai Khan to Kairos Fateweaver on the world of Theodora.
AS the White Scars legion tore forward through the unknown regions of space, they would find a world with an unnaturally high warp influence on the planet the Khan himself would land on the planet and find a ruined chamber with a strange mirror carved out of wraithbone around a warp tear the Khan would touch the surface of the mirror and looked into the multiverse and the future and past. As he gazed upon the endless changes and differences the universe has created. This mirror had originally been made by the Old Ones at the height of their power prior to the War in Heaven following their fall the mirror had been corrupted by Tzeentch and become one of the most sacred artefacts ever made to the Lord of Change. As the Khan saw what the galaxy was heading towards and the endless differences that could happen and then Kairos Fateweaver would appear to the Primarch offering him both power and knowledge and the Khan accepted. The Khan would swear his soul to the Lord of Change three years after the razing of Monarchia allowing him to purge his legion before the heresy.
The Horusian Heresy
"The knowledge that we have lost this day is a tragedy however the boons of Tzeentch will come unto us." Jaghatai Khan to his legion following the Battle of Prospero.
"Mercy please. I can give you the Swordstorm. I can give y." Last words of Hasik Noyan-Khan to Lucius the Great.
During the Heresy the White Scats legion would tear across the Imperium ravaging worlds and slaughtering hundreds in strange debauched rituals to Tzeentch and Chaos. The largest action that the legion would undertake was the battle of Prospero. Following the ascension of the Primarch to a Daemon prince the Legion would truly become night but an instrument in the grand plan of Tzeentch. Their tactics would evolve to use even more powerful Pyskic abilities.
The battle of Prospero was one of the most important battles in the entire Horusian Heresy as it would effectively cripple two legions and seriously weaken a third. The battle began with the White Scars fleet attacking the orbital installations over Prospero, the destruction of the defensive positions would be quick and efficient following their destructions the landing began. The landings would allow the legion to tear across the planet slaughtering everyone that they could find and capturing the Astartes that they found the lesser cities on the planet until only Tizca was left and the battle of Tizca would be the deciding battle of the Thousand Sons involvement in the Heresy. The Thousands Sons had dug in preparing for the storm. The White Scars would launch three attacks before the lines were broken and the White Scars would flood through the city. Then the Emperors Children arrived, the Emperors Children managed to catch the Whites Scars on the flank with the ships holding orbit and continuing the bombardment of Prospero. The relief force would be divided in two one led by Fulgrim leading the relief on the ground while a force led by Lucius assaulting the flagship of the White Scars Swordstorm. The landing force would attack the assembled White Scars Hordes assaulting the Pyramid of Photep the defence commanded by Magnus the Red while the White Scars were unsuited to the urban combat required to the battle of Tizca. Fulgrim would catch the force in the side however too late to stop the ritual fuelling the destruction of the Imperial Webway wards and the ascension of Jaghatai Khan. Fulgrim and Magnus would attack the avian centaur together. The duel would be long the nine arms of the Daemon Primarch would prove useful. In space Lucius's force would take control of the Swordstorm however the damage used to take it alongside the broadsides from the White Scars ships caused the ships orbit to begin to decay. Lucius would notify his Primarch of this and the evacuation would speed up until Prospero was abandoned save for the loyalist forces equipped with teleport equipment and the White Scars. Fulgrim would order Swordstorm to ram the planet and Lucius obeyed. As the ship was about to connect the loyalists would teleport away, Jaghatai and the senior leadership of his legion would also escape while the rest would be wiped out by the shockwave of the ship.
The Scouring
"My Sons this day is the last of the White Scars legion we shall be broken into nine mighty hosts to ravage my father's dying empire. For Tzeentch! For Chaos!" Jaghatai Khan dissolving his legion.
"All hail Abaddon I Emperor of Mankind and herald of Chaos." Jubal Noyan-Khan proclaiming his stance in the succession wars.
Following the death of Horus, the legion would flee with the rest of the traitor legions the legion would run to the world of Tallarn where their Primarch would declare the division of the legion into nine hosts the Host of the Storm, the Host of Lighting, the Host of Flame, the Host of Madness, the host of Shadows, the Host of the Mind, the Host of Power, the Host of the Wind and the Host of Chaos. The head of each host holds the title of Noyan-Khan with Jaghatai Khan as the head of the Host of Chaos with the remaining left to the most powerful Pysker in the newly formed Hosts. Following this the assembled Hosts would dissolve to ravage the Imperium.
The Forty-First millennium
"We are the lords of Madness. We are the Heralds of Insanity. We are the Sons of the Khan" Jubal Noyan-Khan to the lords of Tallarn.
"My sons I call you together let us gather for we march to war." Jaghatai Khan to his legion.
The White Scars are gathering to the world of Tallarn one of the most sacred worlds to their legion as they argue and debate the Thirteenth Black Crusade is gathering and the Khan will join it leading his sons to war and conflict.
Organization
"Right lads the blue lighting is their opening attack so after this they will." Last words of an Iron Warriors sergeant at the battle of Tallarn M35.
"Allow the warp to through you let the powers of madness and hope strike through you." A Pysker lord of the fifth Legion on how to commence their attacks.
The military tactics of the White Scars legion is heavily focused upon the Pyskers breaking the enemy lines with overwhelming strikes allowing their jet-bikers to strike deep and hard breaking their lines and running amok in their logistics and artillery. Their training is mostly heavily focused on Pyskic abilities and striking from Jet-bikes with each horde focusing on a different Pyskic abilities and thus different tactics.
Primarch
"My brother was a strange beast you could feel the wanderlust and love of movement and change that is what dammed him to chaos That is what allowed the lord of change to sink his claws into him." The opening line of the Chapter on Jaghatai Kahn in the Historical work The Primarchs: Heirs of the Emperor by Magnus the Red.
"The cantering of the hooves and the screaming of the heads the flashing of the blades and the opening of the warp that means that the fifth Primarch is here." Last words of an unknown Thousand Son officer before being killed by Jaghatai Khan.
The form of the fifth Primarch has drastically changed post ascension the general form is that of a centaur with nine sets of arms however upon closer inspection the true changes to his flesh can be seen. His flesh his covered in feathers and his hips constantly have heads of beasts and birds tearing free from his flesh screaming out ancient mystic secrets from the depths of time. His three of his arms are wielding swords forged from the bones of a Lord of Change, a single pair of arms bear his personal banner a blue Lighting bolt on a nine-pointed star, one of the other pairs of arms has warped into a pair of heavy warpfire throwers and his last arms hold his staff which he uses to direct magic. As he roams across the galaxy his equine form on the horizon has sent billions into madness and heralded deaths of hundreds of worlds.
Homeworld
"Oh Chorgis, lost Chorgis land of Grass and Sky." Jaghatai Khan mourning his homeworld.
"Lost Chorgis was weak and decadent following the demon wars we were rebuilt, and our sprit was lost." Jubal Khan on Chorgis.
The world of Chorgis may be lost but its spirit lives on with the young men captured by the legion taught in its culture and philosophy so thoroughly that their home is forgotten, and they identify more with Chorgis then their horde or even their homeworld. As a nomadic legion they no longer have a homeworld and thus travel across the galaxy in their massive fleets.
Gene-seed
"You call yourself a strong pysker, the blessings of Tzeentch flow through my body I can call upon the wrath of the warp and the demonic legions of my master." A White Scars sorcerer to Azheck Ahriman before being slain approx. M41.
"Major mutations in the Gene-seed seems that Pyskers are more receptive and they end up with hooves." Azheck Ahriman on the gene-seed of the White Scars.
The White Scars Gene-seed is one of the most heavily mutated of the traitor legions as benefits servants of the god of change. The vast majority of the legion have at the very least a low level of pysker abilities and all have grown hooves and their teeth have slowly blunted and become closer to horses.
