Thank you all for the support for this story! It really means a lot. And I hope everyone is staying safe throughout this whole Pandemic.
To answer some reviews:
Skull8: I've honestly never heard of that one.
Warmachine375: Glad I got your attention. Yeah, I am keeping his parents alive, but that doesn't mean they can't get hurt in anyway. While for his grandfather, I'm still on the fence on what I'm going to do with him. Yeah, I thought it was a good idea to get Cana to reunite with Gildarts a little earlier. Also d yeah, Cana won't be OP, she's going to mainly use her Card Magic, and also use her Crash when necessary. Thanks, romance is not my forte, but I do try the best I could. For what you said about God Slayers, it's a little far away from worrying about them, but I'll figure it out once I get there. Because to be perfectly honest, I'm behind on most of the series, I actually watched the last couple episodes of the series. but I'll figure it out as I go. About Lucy, I'll consider it.
Bgu: Ask and you shall receive.
pandawok301: I'm not interested in doing anything Celtic, sorry.
pokemonking0924: Don't worry, she won't. Everything else will be revealed soon
I hope you all enjoy this chapter.
"Crash Earth: Earthquake Strike!"
Cana pounded her fists into the ground, and a whole lot of magical energy shot into the ground, and caused some nearby trees to shake, and fall to the ground.
"Good, now try it with your cards." Gildarts said.
Cana pulled out a Card, and said," Card Crash: Explosion!"
She three another card at a nearby tree. The Card embedded itself into it, and the tree splintered and then exploded.
Cana cheered and Gildarts nodded with a proud look.
"I think that warrants a break. C'mon, I already got supper ready."
It had already been a month since Cana and Gildarts left to train. So far Cana had been working out and harnessing her magic. While doing that, Gildarts would teach her all the low level Crash Spells, and would work their way up, if wanted to. This was fine to her, because she wasn't planning on becoming super powerful, just become a strong mage, just like how she and Jackson envisioned. She had also gotten an idea that she had talked about with her old man.
If she could combine her Card Magic with Crash, like how other wizards try to combine different Magic Types. She knew Master Makarov could do it, and some other Mages. Gildarts said it was possible, even though he wasn't an expert on her type of magic, but was able to help her.
Heck, she had taught Jackson how to do Card Magic, so he could defend himself when his Spirits were busy. Even though he already knew Self Defense, but you couldn't be too careful.
Especially if you're best friend is involved.
That made her think back to what she did before she left. She didn't know what possessed her to kiss him on the cheek. Her dad didn't bring it up, all he did was scowl for a few minutes.
I mean, the only type of people who would do that wasn't family… would be someone in a relationship.
And she had no interest in Jackson like that what so ever! Even though it felt nice... nope, don't think of stuff like that! She thought quickly.
Once she sat down and started to eat with gusto. The vigorous training her dad put her through made her starving. She checked her Call Card, and a message was waiting for her that was sent today.
She activated it and listened to the message Jackson sent her. She also made a mental note to learn how to make Call Card's that are able to make sound and video.
"Hey Cana, hope training going well. Things at the guild are doing ok. Gray and I have been going on missions together, and we've taken on a lot of criminals. And Gray hasn't charged into danger since the last time."
"Shut it four-eyes! It was a mistake, and I learned from it!" Gray's voice chimed in.
"Yeah, after getting verbally scared by my mom."
Cana giggled, knowing Gray was probably shivering or suffering flashbacks.
"I don't know what you are talking about." Was his reply.
"Yeah sure you don't." Jackson sarcastically said. "Well, we're going on job with Mom and dad. I'll send you another message later. See ya soon."
The call ended, and Cana grinned fondly as she thought about her two friends. Hearing Jackson's messages made her feel better about leaving him for an extended period of time.
She meant everyone at the guild… yeah, just a slip up.
Gildarts had been studying his daughter's mannerisms and her close bond with Jackson, ever since he returned and found out about Cana. He may be oblivious sometimes, but even he knew something was going on. He also had a feeling neither knew that they had feelings for each other, or were starting to.
With now being a father, he felt protective over Cana, and would so gladly keep away every man who comes across her. But he knew he didn't have to with Jackson. He was a good kid with good parents. And he helped him unite with his daughter, and he was internally grateful for that.
But, that didn't mean he was in the clear. If the two ever started dating, then he would make it clear to Jackson that if he ever broke her heart.
Then it wouldn't be pretty.
Meanwhile, Jackson and Gray were following Iden and Hal to their destination. Apparently a small band of Dark Mages were causing trouble in a town. Both boys were excited to take on some Dark Mages, but they knew they had to be careful.
The last guys they fought were just normal people who used weapons. While these guys had actual magic, and could seriously hurt someone.
So the plan was like before, minus Gray charging head first. Hal and Iden taking out most of them, then Jackson and Gray handling the rest.
Also, there was a secondary reason for this. Both parents knew they had to distract Jackson about Cana. This was the first time that they didn't see the duo together. It broke their heart to see their son look depressed. So they hoped this job would take his mind off of his friend.
Once the group made it to the town by train, they went straight to the Mayor's office to get the information they needed. They found out the group hung out in an abandoned warehouse at the edge of town. And from what witnesses say, they used Gun Magic.
This caused the parents to redact their promise of letting the kids fight with them. Due to them not having experience with Gun Magic. So they were forced to keep watch outside, while they handled it.
"Man this bites." Jackson said, as his parents scouted for a way in, while they stood near the trees.
"Yeah, you said it, Jacks. By the way, I never got to ask, how good of a team are your parents? Cause I have seen some members of the guild partner with each other. Including Macao and Wakaba."
"Their pretty good, pretty sure their one of Fairy Tail's strongest teams. But it did take them some time to get into sync with one another when they first started to take jobs together. Especially due to the fact they were dating. They became better as they got older, and then they hit S-Class. Surprisingly, my dad was selected first, and then my mom. They ended up fighting each other, and they surprisingly didn't hold back.
From what I heard, Master Makarov pretty much had a cow when he kept on seeing the number of explosions on their side of the island. But I'm pretty sure they just exaggerate, and that it was just a normal fight."
"Dang, so are you planning on joining them when you get older? Y'know, like a family thing?"
Gray felt a slight pain when he said family. He still missed his family, but everyone at the guild, especially Jackson and family treated him nicely. It made the pain less painful.
Jackson shrugged and said," I might, but I think I'll be in another team. Cana and I are one, and maybe you can be another member? How about it, underwear boy?"
Gray chuckled and said," I wouldn't mind, four eyes."
"Man, wonder what Cana would think of this?"
Gray shrugged and said," I think she wouldn't mind."
He also noticed this was most upbeat he looked since Cana left. He had heard around the guild, and even he knew that something was growing between them. It wasn't his place to meddle in Jackson and Cana's life. He knew nothing in the romance department, so he wouldn't know how to help if he ever wanted to. He could ask Iden later on.
Meanwhile, the couple that was talked about earlier found a way inside. Surprisingly, some lights were on, and they could see the group hanging around, laughing, and talking about causing more mayhem. They were both outside and had a clear view of everyone.
"So, how do you want to play this?" Iden asked.
"You have Atalanta, right?" Hal asked, and Iden smirked.
Iden took out a Titanium Key, the picture on it was of a bow and arrow.
"Open, Gate of the Swift-Footed Huntress: Atalanta!" She whispered.
A person came out of a puff of smoke. And a woman that had the features of a Lion, and had traditional Greek Huntress Clothing appeared. (Look up Master Artemis outfit for Kassandra on the Assassin's Creed Odyssey game. That's what Atalanta's clothing looks like.)
She had long brown hair that was in a ponytail that went to her shoulder under her hood. She also had a bow and a quiver full of arrows on her back.
"I'm at your service, Mistress." She said in an accent.
"I want you to take out the lights inside, please."
Atalanta snorted and said," Please, I can do that blindfolded. Here I go."
Atalanta strung an arrow, aimed it into the window and said," Seeker Shot."
She lets go of the bow, and the arrow flies into the building, and takes out the light Lacrima. Until the entire inside was dark, but enough to see silhouettes.
"What the hell?!" Someone yelled from inside.
"Stay on guard! Let's teach whoever's trying to mess with us, will be messed up by us." Someone else said.
"Thank, Atalanta. You can go now."
Atalanta did a lazy salute and said, "Of course. Have fun, Id. Also, use this."
She then handed Iden her bow, and quiver of arrows, and then disappeared. Iden would've told her she would've Re-quip them, but they were on a time frame.
Just like Jackson, she also had a secondary magic. Sure she had her spirits, but her father told her that she couldn't rely solely on them. So he had taught her self-defense, while her mother taught her Re-quip magic, due to her being a Re-quip Mage. Before Jackson had started using Card Magic as his secondary, she and Hal had taught him self-defense.
Besides any weapon she had stashed, she was allowed to use her spirits weapons. That latter was a rare thing for God Spirit Mages, and also Celestial Spirit Mages with their own way. But the story for how she got it was for another time.
"Alright, I go in, while you provide cover." Hal said, and Iden nodded.
Hal got into the building, and Iden stood behind him. He jumped off the platform.
"Fire Magic: Fire Torrent!" Hal said as he landed, and did a spinning motion.
The mages around him covered their eyes, or ducked when they almost got hit. Some of the fire got onto some nearby crates, which allowed the room to have some light.
"Atalanta: Sharp Shot!" Iden said as she fired three Arrows.
The arrows then hit three of the Gun Mages and they went down.
"You'll regret that. Gun Magic: Rapid Fire!" The leader of the group said.
Him and his crew started to fire, but Hal was ready for them.
"Earth Magic: Earth Slabs!" He said and then stomped his foot.
"Don't forget about me, sweetie. Atalanta: Rapid Shots!"
A couple of rocky slabs appeared, and shielded him from the Magic Bullet fire. Iden started running along the platform, and fired a couple of arrows in quick succession. She fired one at a nearby thug that had her in his sights. But the arrow lodged itself into the barrel. Before he could do anything, she got the chance to land a kick to his face, and he fell off the catwalk, and landed on the ground below.
Hal noticed that there was four left that were under a catwalk. He sprinted out and shot out his hand.
"Water Magic: Ice Slicer!"
He threw a couple of sharp ice at the support beams of the catwalk. The thugs looked up in time to see the catwalk fall onto them.
The couple admired their handiwork, and once they realized the bad guys were knocked unconscious, Iden kissed Hal on the cheek.
"I always get quite the thrill when we work together, babe."
Hal gazed at his wife lovingly, and said," Same."
There were about to kiss, if it wasn't for someone interrupting them.
"Ah gross. We came at a bad time."
The couple looked over to see Jackson and Gray at an opened entrance. And they both had looks of slight embarrassment.
"Yeah, we can back at another time." Gray said, as he scratched the back of his neck.
Hal and Iden looked at each other, and then laughed.
(2 months later)
Jackson and Gray walked back to the guild. They both looked bored.
"I can't believe you picked that job." Gray grumbled.
"Hey, you said and I quote 'Pick an easy job, four eyes. I don't care if you pick at random.'" Jackson grumbled. "Who knew I would've chosen helping someone with rodent infestation in their garden. It would've been cooler if it was some type of killer plants or something."
Gray snorted and said," Oh yeah, killer plants. How lame is that? Next time, I'm picking the job."
"Whatever you say, stripper. Pretty sure our next job is trying to find someone who keeps on stripping as if he's been cursed or something." Jackson said.
"That sounds lame… hey! How about I knock your block off instead!" Gray threatened.
"Try it, and then I'll sick one of my spirits on you." Jackson threatened back.
Gray hummed and then said," So, heard anything from, Cana?"
"Nope, haven't heard from her in a couple of days." Jackson said with a shrug, as if it didn't bother him.
Gray knew him well enough to know he missed her. They were already at the doors of the guild. Jackson was in front, and was about to open them, when the doors opened. He ended up, or the person who opened it, ended up running into him. And they both fell to the ground with a thud.
Jackson got a weird sense of Déjà vu. He opened and his eyes, and were met with familiar brown ones.
"Cana?"
"Jackson?"
Gray snorted in amusement and said," Are you two going to kiss or what?"
"Shut-up!" Both friends said, and they had visible blushes on their faces.
They both got up, and they properly hugged. Although Jackson was taken a little aback by Cana's strength.
"I missed you." Cana whispered.
"Same. When did you get back?" He said and lets go of her.
"Oh, a couple of minutes ago. When I found out from Master that you and Gray went out, I decided to find you guys. And I guess I did."
Jackson then properly looked at Cana, she seemed to have a grow and inch, and she looked to be slightly more muscular.
"You bulked up."
Cana seemed to blush and said," Yeah, benefits of my dad's training regiment. Man, you guys are going to lose to it once you see how much stronger I got. I even combined my dad's Crash with my Card Magic."
Gray smirked and said," How about you show us with a little fight? Two against one?"
Jackson gave him a 'really' look, and said," That seems unfair."
Cana crossed her arms, grinned a little and said, "I accept."
Gray seemed to be all for it, while Jackson had a slight uneasy feeling.
And the feeling he had was right.
Everyone at the guild went to the training course in the back to watch the fight. When Master signaled them to fight, both Jackson and Gray were about to attack when Cana said.
"Explosion Card: Crash Imbued!"
Once she threw it at them, and the card imbedded itself into the ground. It immediately exploded, and the resulting explosion sent them flying into the nearby trees. And it caused some people to be thrown to the ground. And also some damage to the guilds wall.
Cana rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly and said," Sorry guys."
"I think, I need to train." Gray said, as he found himself under a tree.
"S-same." Jackson said in a daze.
As Iden and Hal went to check on the boys, Gildarts was crying with joy and proudly said," That's my girl!"
Everyone present started to talk excitedly
Master got out of stupor and thought,' Amazing, Gildarts sure did teach her well. I can see a bright future with Cana. Although I fear what she could do to the guild if she gets into more brawls, and possibly cause more damage.' He thought the last part worriedly.
As Jackson was being healed by one of his mom's spirits. He couldn't help but think that things were going to different he couldn't be more happier to have his best friend back.
I wanted to show the teamwork between Jackson's parents, and also show Jackson and Cana would miss each other.
Atalanta is a Greek huntress, and follows Artemis, the Greek Goddess of wild animals, the hunt, and vegetation, and of chastity and childbirth.
