So I got robbed the other night. Been in a mood cause of it, so here's a moody chapter.
I do not own Naruto! Proceed.
Sasori opened his eyes, glancing around the dark room. He watched as the door quietly clicked shut before sitting up and looking into Zoe's bed. Her black comforter was thrown into a messy pile on her bed.
His red eyebrows furrowed as he pulled himself to his feet, striding towards the door. He quickly opened the door, hearing the faint noise of the TV downstairs. Once his feet hit the bottom stair, his eyes rose to the couch. His red eyebrow rose at the scene in front of him.
Zoe sat there, her pale skin paler than normal, he noted. Her short black hair was tied up loosely, many strands falling out of it. She rocked herself back and forth, gaze locked on the floor, clearly inattentive to her surroundings.
He considered how he could go back upstairs, and get some much needed rest for his body to recuperate- but there was just something about this girl. For the first time in over 20 years, he sympathized with someone.
"Zoe?" He murmured, taking a step forward. Her head snapped up, staring at him in shock. His gaze landed on the tears that dripped down her cheeks and a frown spread across his face.
"H-hey," she stuttered. Her arms flew up and quickly rubbed at he lines of tears that streamed down her face, "Why are you up? Did I wake you?"
He shook his head at her, walking to the couch she sat on and brushed her hair out of her eyes. She stared at him, completely taken back by the criminal's actions.
"Why?" She whispered, her lip quivering.
He frowned at her, looking towards the clock that hung over the TV screen. "You look like I did when I lost my parents," He murmured.
She stared at him in shock, "You don't have to sympathize with me."
He scoffed, sitting, "If I didn't have to, I wouldn't. "
"Sasori," She whispered. "It's 3:00am, you should get some rest. I'll be upstairs in a few-"
He cut her off, swiftly shifting the girls position into his arms. She gasped out as he tucked her head under his, his fingers twirling her hair soundlessly.
For a few seconds, everything was silent. He adjusted himself so he laid on the couch, the small girl still in his arms.
"Stop it," he muttered. Her body tensed before shaking violently. He heard her sobs seconds later as she gasped and sputtered.
He held her for 23 minutes. She had gasped out 419 breaths in that time. By 284 breaths, his forehead was against hers, calming her rushed breaths. During his time as a puppet, he had always focused on what the people around him did. He knew that Hidan chewed his pieces of steak 12 times before swallowing it, and that Itachi let his tea steep for exactly 3 minutes and 8 seconds.
Despite now being human, he continued to focus on the little details in everyone's lives. However, he couldn't help the feeling he now had in his stomach.
"I just had a bad dream," she whispered. "I'm sorry. We can go back up to bed?"
He glanced down to her. Her hazel eyes shone, though she no longer cried. His arm tucked under her legs and he swung her into his arms and carried her upstairs swiftly.
His knee rested on her bed as he placed the peaceful looking girl down. She was already fast asleep when her head hit the pillow. He pulled the black comforter over her before her hand snapped out and grabbed her wrist, hauling him into the bed with her.
His eyes were wide with confusion when she suddenly cradled his head against her body. He pulled against her, attempting to get out of her grip without waking her, though it seemed impossible with the death grip she had on him.
Maybe this will be okay, he thought. He laid comfortably in her arms, noting that he was more comfortable like this than he had been in years.
So much for being an S-ranked ninja.
"Zoe," a voice said from underneath of me. I opened my eyes, blinking slowly before noticing my pillow was breathing. I cocked an eyebrow, sitting up and staring at Sasori in confusion.
"Good morning," I muttered, my eyebrow still raised at him.
"You wouldn't let me go," he said, sitting up and standing, "I'm sorry."
I waved my hand at him, shrugging it off, "it's fine. Don't worry about it," I smiled. Once I reached the door, I turned to him, "Thank you for last night."
"It's fine, don't worry about it," He repeated, a smirk resting on his face.
"Dork," I snickered before rushing out of the doorway.
We walked down the stairs, glancing around the living room. Kakuzu, Kisame and Hidan all lazed around the room, everyone focused on the TV.
"How'd you fuckers sleep?" Hidan grinned, wiggling his eyebrows at us.
A deadpan expression spread across my face, "I slept fine, asshole. Thanks for asking."
Kisame snorted into his glass of water while Kakuzu chuckled.
"Damn," Hidan sighed, shaking his head. "Did the puppet fucker get your panties in a bunch?"
Kisame sighed, standing from his place on the couch before walking behind the recliner where Hidan sat. I watched as Kisame smacked the back of his head.
"Thank you, Kisa," I grinned, walking towards him into the kitchen.
"Anything for you, kid," he smiled. Seconds later, I felt his arm wrap around my waist and he threw me over his shoulder, enticing a shriek from me.
"Shit!" I yelped, hanging over his shoulder. He strode into the kitchen as if nothing happened and walked over to the counter, humming to himself while he prepared his food.
Deidara snickered, "Good morning, Zoe, un."
"Good morning, Deidara," I sighed, watching as Hidan, Sasori, and Kakuzu walked in. "Could you let me down?"
"Do you hear that?" Kisame asked, turning himself fully around to address everyone in the room.
I stared blankly at my cupboards while I heard laughter.
"Nyx," I pleaded once he turned back around. "I'll do your laundry for a month."
She snapped her head up from her pancakes and Beth sighed, shaking her head.
"So easily bribed," Beth murmured as Onyxcia flew to her feet, running to Kisame's side.
"Kisame," she pouted, pulling on his arm. Sasori, Kakuzu and Itachi all smirked at me.
Assholes.
"Yes, Onyxcia?" He asked, turning to her.
My face was right in front of his plate full of pancakes. Glancing up, I looked around at everyone who was focused on Onyxcia's escape plan while I reached out and grabbed a fork. I heard Hidan snort and I shot him a look before cutting myself off a piece of his pancake, shoving it into my mouth.
"Could you please release the crazy woman over your arm?" She asked, snickering when she saw my middle finger raised over his shoulder.
"There's a woman over my arm?" Kisame demanded, turning his head. I sighed, continuing my feast.
Kakuzu sat at the table, finding the whole situation hilarious apparently as he snorted into his cup of water with every bite I took.
"Kisame, let Zoe down," Pein sighed as he walked into the room. Konan, Tobi and Zetsu all followed closely behind.
Tobi ran over to Kisame, grabbing onto my wrist and ripping me out of Kisame's grip.
"Holy shit," I gasped out as I was dumped onto a seat at the table. Everyone looked amused.
"Tobi will help Zoe-chan because Tobi's a good boy!" He cheered before running over to the counter where he prepared his pancakes. My eyes followed him before landing on Kisame who stared at me with a raised eyebrow.
"Zoe," he started, walking over to me. He pulled the chair out next to me and sat down, still looking at me. "Do you happen to know where half of my breakfast went?"
I shrugged, "No clue. Maybe ask Itachi? He sees everything," I stated, grabbing his fork from his hand before taking another bite.
"I'm not gonna finish my food if you want it, yeah," Deidara offered, a large smile on his lips.
"Who said I was hungry?" I asked, glancing around at everyone who stared at me. I put my hand over my lips and whispered to Kisame, "I think Beth did it."
Kisame grinned, patting my head before extracting the fork from my hand and beginning to eat his food.
"You're an idiot," Beth stated as she glanced up from her phone.
"And you're not?" I countered, meeting her gaze easily. "In case you didn't realize, I graduated with a higher average than you."
She glared at me from her spot while Nyx let out a laugh. She stood from her seat, grabbing me by the back of my shirt and dragged me into the living room, Nyx skipping behind her.
"Why do you look so tired?" Beth asked, turning to me quickly. Her annoyance quickly switched to concern.
"I had a bad dream," I shrugged. "It's no big deal. Sasori helped me get back to sleep."
"Is that why you and Sasori were basically morphed together?" Nyx asked, raising an eyebrow at me.
"I guess I dragged him into bed with me," I nodded, turning to the blonde. "Anything else, detectives?"
"What did you dream about?" Beth pried, her hand now resting on my shoulder.
"It was just Jeremy," I sighed, glancing at them both. They each frowned, staring at me in concern. "No big deal. Seriously, don't worry."
"Too late," Onyxcia stated. Beth nodded in agreement.
Third person!
"Danna," Deidara started, looking up to the redhead. He cocked an eyebrow at the blonde before noticing everyone elses stares. "You sure looked comfy this morning, hmm," He snickered.
"I fucking second that," Hidan nodded, his mouth full of pancake.
"She had a bad dream," Sasori explained, sipping on a glass of water. "I just wanted to help her."
"I would've done the same," Kisame frowned, turning to the puppeteer. "Is she okay now?"
"She was shaken up," Sasori said, turning to the blue man. "She's okay now, though."
"Good," Itachi nodded with Kakuzu.
"Tobi hopes that Zoe-chan will be okay!" Tobi said, looking around frantically.
"A bad dream couldn't kill her, Tobi," Zetsu scoffed. "Oh, be nice. I'm just saying. She should get over it. You're such a dick."
"It seems you've all taken a liking to these girls," Pein said, looking up to the members of his organization with a raised eyebrow. "What happens when we leave?"
"These girls have valuable information," Konan cut in, glancing at the ginger. "When that time comes, I vote that we bring them with us."
