THE RAIN & THE SUN

Note: Don't know about film festivals. Is it possible to write, film, edit a video in a few days. Maybe not. Is it happening in this chapter? Yep. I apologize that the film ideas will be horrible. Just pretend people really like them. Also, Cat Noir calls Marinette 'Princess' in the French version, and yes I'm totally bringing it to English because I love it. He needs to start doing it in English.

The Rain & the Sun

Chapter 3: No Longer Alone- A Student Film

The aroma of freshly baked breads and goods fills the bakery. Sabine works the register while Tom hands out free samples. Though it's early in the morning, none of the customers are hesitant to stock up on sweets. There's a certain peace in the atmosphere that could only be broken by a specific disturbance. That disturbance tumbles into the bakery screeching about being late. Nearly tripping over her feet, Marinette comes to an abrupt stop.

"Can I take some sweets?" Marinette requests.

"Sure, dear. Can you get them yourself?" Sabine consents.

"Of course!"

Marinette grabs a box and takes some chocolates. She puts them in her bag before dashing out the door, almost taking out some customers. Instead of being upset, they chuckle, used to Marinette's antics. Sabine and Tom share a sweet smile. Marinette makes it to class a few minutes before the bell rings.

Adrien arrives with a smile.

"Morning," he greets.

"Morning dude," Nino returns.

"Morning Adrien," Alya waves.

"Morning… bud," Adrien addresses Marinette.

Marinette tries not to burst out laughing.

"Morning, bud. How are you this morning?"

"I'm doing good bud. What about you?"

"I'm fine as well. Bud."

The two laugh.

"Are they okay?" Nino asks Alya.

"I'll definitely get to the bottom of it," Alya determines.

"Almost arrived late," Marinette tells Adrien.

"Seriously Marinette, how are you late every day? You live across the street," Alya ponders.

"I don't mean to. I just can't seem to wake up on time," Marinette supplies.

Adrien takes his seat and talks to Nino.

"Have you always been like this or is it new this year?"

"This year. Must be from the extra responsibilities of last year of collège."

"How are you going to ever make it next year?" Alya laughs.

"One year at a time."

"Speaking of, I can't believe the school is almost over."

"I know! But I'm totally looking forward to summer."

"Even if that means missing out on seeing a certain someone every day?"

Alya gestures to Adrien, who's currently wrapped up in a conversation with Nino. Marinette slightly glares.

"I'm going to miss all my friends. I'm sure we'll meet up."

If Marinette isn't too busy dealing with Hawk Moth and guardian stuff.

"I hope so. I'm going to spend the whole summer working on the Ladyblog. And helping out my mom," Alya informs.

"I'll probably be helping out in the bakery. We get really busy in the summer."

The bell rings. At lunch time, Marinette tells Alya she's going to eat with Chloe again if she's here. Alya rolls her eyes. Though she doesn't understand Marinette's obsession with getting along with Chloe, Alya decides to support Marinette. That doesn't mean she wants to eat lunch with her. Marinette spots Chloe at the same spot as yesterday.

"I see you're here again," Marinette voices before sitting down.

"Yeah well, no one could get me again it seems…" Chloe insists.

"Good thing I brought food this time," Marinette smiles.

She pulls out enough food for the two of them. Chloe studies the chocolate.

"Chocolate?"

Marinette holds one up. It's a simple flower design but it makes Chloe smile.

"I remember you used to like them."

"Do you remember everything from our childhood?" Chloe teases.

Marinette giggles.

"Maybe. I guess I'm feeling nostalgic."

"Then you remember our tea parties?"

"Of course! We actually wore fancy dresses and had dozens of stuffed animals. Those times were the best."

Chloe nods, smiling fading.

"Marinette, I can't believe you're being nice to me. I did a lot to hurt you," Chloe admits sincerely.

"Why did you do all those things?"

"Growing up, my mom was always gone for months on end. About our third year of primary school she decided to stay in New York until this year; I was so hurt and angry. And every time I saw you or your family, it just reminded me what I didn't have. I hated you for it," Chloe looks down ashamed.

Her eyes watered, not that she knows why. Is she really crying over a silly thing?

"Adrien was my best friend. I guess I was afraid that if you two ever met, you'd leave me. I wanted to keep Adrien to myself."

"I understand. But you don't have to worry," Marinette assures. "I'm not going to 'steal' Adrien from you. We're just friends and I know he values your friendship too. And if you want to date him, go ahead."

"Really?"

"Yeah, just don't expect me to help you."

"Who would believe me anyway. Marinette and me working together to win Adrien's heart," Chloe laughs.

Marinette laughs along. Chloe wipes her eyes.

"And you better not tell anyone I almost cried!"

"Like anyone would believe me anyway."

Marinette offers a chocolate from the box. Chloe smirks and takes one, plopping it into her mouth. These really are her favorites from the bakery. Lunch goes by quickly and so does the rest of the day. The bell rings to dismiss everyone. Most students linger in the classroom.

"I can't believe I forgot," Nino groans.

"Forgot what?" Adrien asks.

"I entered a bigger film contest and I haven't even started it yet," Nino answers.

"You mean the Paris Student Film Festival?" Alya questions.

Nino nods.

"Isn't that this Sunday?" Marinette points out.

Nino groans, his hands holding onto his head.

"Now I'll have to take my name out," Nino saddens.

"Hey, are you sure? You could make something by Sunday," Alya consoles.

"Not a good one," Nino argues.

"What if we all help?" Marinette suggests.

The students, who not at all weirdly eavesdropped on the conversation, show their support. Filming another short story could be fun.

"Well, only if everyone wants to," Nino accepts.

"Totally! It sounds amazing!" Rose beams.

"What's the theme this year?" Alix inquires.

"It's movie trailers," Nino reveals.

"That could be fun," Kim inputs.

"What do you need from us?" Adrien asks.

Nino thinks for a moment.

"Alya and I will write the script. Though I'd love some input from Marc," Nino starts.

"I'll have him text you. You guys can get together tonight or tomorrow," Nathaniel offers.

"Thanks dude! That totally helps. I like your artistic style, maybe once I have the plot down, you could help with visual, prop design and lighting," Nino continues.

"I'm your man," Nathaniel approves.

"Marinette, I need you for costumes. Think you could put together some simple things together?" Nino proceeds.

"No problem! Just text me what," Marinette smiles.

Nino hands her a flyer.

"It has the film house address. It says if we need some stuff we can see if they have anything in storage. Costumes or props," Nino informs.

"I'll probably check it out too," Nathaniel adds.

"Juleka, you're a beast at makeup. Hope you can help," Nino continues.

"I mean sure, yeah, whatever," Juleka mumbles.

"Great, and Rose, can you handle snacks?" Nino questions.

"Sure!" Rose cheers.

"I'll help too," Alix offers.

"Rest of you can show up on filming day for acting or help," Nino finishes.

"Sounds like everything is in order," Max determines.

"Except, where are we going to film?" Alya points out.

Everyone thinks about all the possibilities. Marinette gives Chloe a look. Chloe shakes her head. Marinette nods. They glare at each other, going back and forth, until Chloe relents.

"Fine," Chloe mutters.

"Did you say something Chloe?" Marinette brings to attention.

Everyone turns to her. Chloe grumbles.

"I said we can film at my daddy's hotel. We have a huge ballroom to use as space. We can decorate it however your film needs," Chloe proposes.

Alya raises her eyebrow.

"You want to help?" Alya questions skeptically.

"Why not?" Chloe replies.

"Great. I'll get back to everyone tomorrow," Nino concludes.

Everyone heads their separate directions, excited about the film. Marinette goes up to Nino.

"Hey Nino, is it okay if Kagami comes to help too? I mean if it's okay with Adrien too," Marinette requests.

"It's fine with me," Adrien shrugs.

"Sure, we can use the help," Nino allows.

"Thanks! Good luck writing," Marinette wishes before leaving.

Nino turns to Adrien.

"Do you think you'll be able to help? I know you're busy," Nino mentions.

"I don't have anything this weekend. I might be busy Friday so if we film Saturday I should be free," Adrien thinks.

"I'll see if we can do that then."

The next day, Nino, Alya, and Marc meet before school to finalize the plot for the film. Mylène and Ivan are also sitting together, talking before they have to sit apart. Alix, Kim, Juleka, and Rose walk into class. Lila follows and heads to her seat when she overhears their conversation.

"So we finished the script just now. Looks like we'll all be good to go," Nino announces.

"That's so great! I can't wait to learn my lines!" Rose smiles.

"It should be fun with everyone. Is Adrien really going to be able to help out?" Alya enquires.

"He texted me this morning. It took some convincing but his father is letting him. Mainly because it'll be at the Bourgeois' hotel. He'll be playing the lead," Nino answers.

The lead huh? Well, Lila thinks, every lead needs an attractive co-star.

"Did you say you were making a film?" Lila butts her way into the conversation.

"Yeah, for the Paris Student Film Festival," Nino confirms.

"That's so cool. I remember the last time I was in a film. It was so fun," Lila tells.

"You were in a film?" Alya asks.

"Yeah, when I was visiting Hollywood. I had to do something over the summer," Lila lies.

"You were in a Hollywood movie?! That's so cool!" Rose beams.

"What was it like?" Mylène asks.

"Everyone was so nice. Said I was a great actress. I learned about acting and how to make a movie. I'd love to help if you want," Lila offers.

"Sure! Sounds great. I remember you said you knew a bunch of Hollywood directors. Is that when you met them?" Nino practically bubbles.

"Um yeah! Totally," Lila quickly agrees.

"You want to be the lead actress?" Nino inquires.

"But Mylène is supposed to be the lead actress," Alya reminds.

"Oh, I don't want to take away Mylène's spot. I just want to make sure this film is the best it can be," Lila pretends to care.

"Lila can be the lead since she has more experience. I can do something else," Mylène assures.

"Are you sure?" Alya asks.

"Yeah, no worries," Mylène reassures.

"Great! I'll give out the scripts at lunch," Nino notifies.

"I can't wait," Lila goes to her seat.

She smirks. That was easier than she thought. Everyone is there before the bell rings, even Marinette. At lunch, the whole group meets to discuss the film. Nino hands out copies of the script to everyone.

"Chaostaur?" Marinette reads the title.

"Yes, the movie trailer is based off the short film I did for the school contest. Though having it named Horrificator seemed weird after Hawkmoth. So I changed the name," Nino explains.

Marinette nods and flips through the script. Nino goes on to say who will be playing what.

"Rose, Alix, Sabrina, I have you as citizens. You can decide which you want to be. Kagami and Kim, you're agents. Chloe will be the agency director. Our monster will be played by Ivan. Max you'll be the head scientist, with Mylène as his assistant…"

Marinette interrupts.

"Is Mylène not playing Agent Smith?" Marinette wonders.

Nino huffs.

"If I could just finish," Nino complains. "Our leads Officer Jones and Agent Smith will be played by Adrien and Lila."

"What?" Adrien asks.

Marinette's jaw drops. Lila?!

"I didn't know Lila is helping," Marinette speaks up.

"Neither did I," Adrien joins.

"Of course, I'd love to help Nino with his film. Is that a problem Marinette?" Lila challenges though no one but Marinette can tell.

"No, whatever Director Nino thinks is best for his film," Marinette returns.

"Marinette, do you think you can make clothes for everyone in time?" Nino questions.

"I should. Sabrina, Alix, and Rose will be easy. They can just wear whatever. I should be able to find stuff for the others," Marinette answers.

"What about you Nathaniel?" Nino moves on.

"I'll be able to some stuff together."

"Read over your scripts today and tomorrow. We'll meet at the Le Grand Paris on Saturday at ten," Nino instructs.

Once everyone goes to the lockers or classroom, Lila corners Marinette.

"I'm so excited to be working on this film with everyone. Aren't you?" Lila states coldly.

"I don't know what lies you told to steal the lead from Mylène…" Marinette starts.

"Mylène is good," Lila interjects. "But if Nino wants to win, he needs a real star as his lead. She happily gave it to me."

"Why did you do it? Just to spend time with Adrien?" Marinette interrogates.

"You know me so well! See we could be good friends Marinette."

"I'll never be friends with you Lila."

Lila smirks.

"You'll wish you changed your mind."

"So I've heard. You keep threatening that my friends will leave me but I haven't seen any evidence of that."

"Oh so you don't remember when I accused you of pushing me down the stairs? Stealing from me? You didn't see some of them jump to my side without hesitation? Guess I better work harder at it then. I better go, I have so many lines to memorize before Saturday. Have fun being in the background as always."

Lila turns and leaves with a smirk. Marinette leans back against the wall and takes a deep breath.

"Why do you let her talk to you like that?"

Marinette screams in surprise. Kagami is standing a few feet away with her arms crossed.

"She's kind of difficult to deal with," Marinette rubs the back of her head.

Kagami steps closer.

"Don't let her push you around."

"I don't!"

Kagami raises her eyebrow before nodding.

"So, uh. I heard about you and Adrien. I'm sorry," Marinette shifts topics.

Kagami shrugs.

"I guess we weren't as perfect for each other as I thought. Besides he's in love with someone else."

Marinette nods, reliving the horrible confession he gave to her.

"I know, he told me."

"He told you he loves you?"

Marinette's eyes widen dramatically.

"WHAT?! NO! Adrien isn't in love with me. I don't know who she is, but it's not me. We're just friends."

"And you're okay with that?"

"I'm trying to. I just want him to be happy with whoever she is."

Kagami nods.

"I guess I do too," Kagami agrees. "Right now, not as much. We're still friends right?"

"Of course Kagami. I'm sorry we haven't hung out since we were at the Le Grand Paris together, but I've never wanted to stop being your friend."

"Even when Adrien and I were kind of dating?"

"Even then. The secret to real friendship, no guy comes in between."

"Oh, how interesting," Kagami processes. "Then if you want to date Adrien, as my friend, I will accept that."

"That's not what I meant!" Marinette protests. "And I told you it's never going to happen."

"I know. But I think he loves you. He just doesn't realize it yet."

Kagami slightly bows her head before leaving. Marinette watches while biting her lip. 'Calm down Marinette. Don't take those words to heart. Adrien and you are friends. Friends. You'll always just be friends. He loves someone else. Be his friend.' Marinette takes a deep breath before heading to class.

The following day after school, Marinette heads to the address Nino gave her. People are getting ready for the film festival in two days. No one approaches her to see what she needs. Marinette doesn't know if she should say something. Then, a man in his forties notices her nervousness and stops to talk to her.

"Did you need something miss?" he asks.

"Yes, my friend said we could come here if we needed costumes for our film. My other friend came here yesterday for props. He said I should check it out," Marinette replies.

"Your friend is entering the Paris Student Film Festival?"

"Yes sir."

The man studies Marinette briefly before gesturing a direction.

"Follow me."

Marinette follows the man around various workers until they're in a back room. It's full of costumes and clothes.

"Hope these can help," the man says with a smile.

"Thanks! This should be a good start. Do you always let any of the participants borrow anything from here they need?"

"Sure. Most are costumes from previous plays. We like to help future careers by lending this stuff out. Props, costumes, and even previous film entries as inspiration."

"Wow. That's so cool."

The man nods in agreement.

"I'll be next door if you need anything else."

Marinette smiles as he leaves. Tikki pops out of Marinette's purse.

"Did you hear that Tikki?"

"I did. That's so nice of them to do."

"Definitely. Saves me the trouble of designing and sewing outfits from scratch."

"Why don't you? I haven't seen you design anything in so long."

Tikki frowns, worried that Marinette has given up on designing.

"Two weeks isn't that long," Marinette argues. "I've just been busy is all. I'm sure I'll have time soon."

Tikki isn't so sure. She hopes Marinette isn't neglecting her dreams in efforts to take care of the kwamis.

"Now, help me find some clothes that we can use."

The two rummage through boxes and racks of clothes and costumes. The two begin to try on some of the outfits and show them off. Tikki holds up a scary mask that scares Marinette. The two laugh. Eventually, Marinette has a pile of things to take.

"Did you find everything you need?" Tikki asks.

"From here. I've got two coats I can make into lab coats. Some suits to alter for the agents. The monster for Ivan can be this creature. I'll just make the changes I need. Other little things. I just need to text them to see if they have what I'm missing. I might have to go to a thrift store."

"Who knew putting together a short film could be so much work!"

Marinette picks up the clothes and laughs. She turns to leave when she spots a particular poster. It's an old poster from a prior film festival entry. At the top reads "No Longer Alone" and the actress looks very familiar. Marinette stares at it hoping why will come to mind.

"Marinette? Are we going home?"

"In just a moment."

Marinette finds the man from earlier working on something. He smiles when he sees all the clothes she has.

"Seems you managed to find some things."

"Yep! I hope I can make some changes on them."

"Go ahead. We don't need them back. Do you need anything else?"

"Actually… I was wondering something. You said you have every previous film entry on file to see?"

"We sure do. You want to take one?"

"Yes please. Do you have 'No Longer Alone'? I don't know if you remember it or…"

"I do," the man interrupts. "It was from twenty-two, maybe twenty-three years ago. By far my favorite."

The man goes to a cabinet and searches through for the disk. He hands it to Marinette.

"Thank you," Marinette smiles.

"No problem. Good luck."

Marinette puts the disk in her purse before leaving.

"What was that about?" Tikki questions.

"There's something I've got to see," Marinette responds.

Marinette says hi to her parents before dumping the clothes on her chaise. The kwamis are fascinated by what's there.

"Oooo, this looks like fun," Stompp notes.

"Lots of colors," Longg observes.

Marinette giggles.

"They're not ready yet," Marinette mentions.

"Why not?" Xuppu wonders.

"For one, they're not the right size," Marinette replies.

"How do you know that?" Mullo asks.

"I took everyone's measurements today at lunch. I'll do the best I can then fix anything if I need to tomorrow. Also, I need to alter some colors and details," Marinette finishes.

A buzz from her phone alerts Marinette of a text. She reads it.

"For now, I need to go to a thrift store for some items," Marinette announces.

"Can we go with you?" Fluff jumps at the chance.

Most kwamis join in.

"Well, I'll take a few of you I suppose. I believe it's Daizzi and Orikko's turn."

The two beam. They, plus Tikki, phase into her purse. Marinette walks down the streets, on a mission for the closest thrift shop. The kwamis enjoy the outing, even if they don't see much. Marinette finds everything she needs and gets right to work on adjusting the costumes to fit the actors. She spends all night working on them. Just before nine-thirty, Marinette arrives at the Le Grand Paris. A worker leads her to the ballroom where Chloe is already ordering people where to put things.

"What are you doing here already?" Chloe inquires.

"Thought I would come early and help set up stuff," Marinette smiles weakly.

Chloe studies her.

"You look exhausted. Did you stay up all night working on those?" Chloe gestures to the costumes in Marinette's hand.

"Yeah, but I'm still missing something from yours. Could we look through your closet?"

Chloe rolls her eyes.

"Sure," Chloe turns to Nathaniel. "We'll be back in a few. Can you handle directing the people where your props need to go?"

Nathaniel looks up from his paper.

"Yeah sure," Nathaniel speaks up.

Chloe drags Marinette to the elevators after dropping her costumes.

"I didn't know Nathaniel was here."

"He came twenty minutes ago with the props to set up," Chloe explains.

The elevator dings when they arrive on Chloe's floor. She opens her door and over to her closet. Marinette's eyes widen at the multitude of outfits.

"Looking for something in particular?" Chloe asks.

"Yeah, do you have any coats?"

"Tons."

Marinette finds out that may not be an exaggeration. She has one in every color, style, and length. Marinette skims through the black coats and finds the perfect one. She pulls out a long, black trench coat.

"This is perfect. And you found some button up shirts right?" Marinette questions.

Chloe shows the section in her closet.

"I've got a few. I'm not sure which color you want," Chloe points them out.

"White probably would be preferable… but I think you can get away with this light yellow. Professional enough and your color."

Chloe smiles.

"Thanks and you need me to wear heels too?"

"Black if you've got them."

Chloe pulls out black shoes with a small heel. Marinette gives her a thumbs up.

"Let's take all these downstairs. The others should be here soon," Marinette suggests.

By the time they get downstairs, almost everyone is there already. People are busy either getting dressed, helping set up props, or getting the equipment ready when Lila arrives. Twenty minutes late. Marinette folds her arms and glares.

"You would not believe the traffic on my way here," Lila excuses herself.

"Just get into your clothes so we can start soon," Marinette grumbles.

Marinette hands her clothes and Lila heads over to the bathroom. Chloe is the first person to come back changed. She's wearing the unmellow yellow button-up shirt, a long, black trench coat, black slacks, and black heels.

"How do the slacks feel?" Marinette questions.

"They fit great. Don't think you need to do anything to them," Chloe answers.

"Great, Juleka can do your makeup then," Marinette directs.

Max comes out next, shortly followed by Mylène. Both are wearing khaki work pants with button up shirts. Max has an emerald green one while Mylène's has a baby blue shirt. Max is also wearing a patterned-bow tie. A lab coat with their names newly stitched on completes their outfit.

"Does anything need alterations?" Marinette inquires.

"Not from me," Max responds.

"You must be talented to get the measurement perfectly," Markov notes.

"Thanks. And you Mylène?"

"I'm good too. Thanks Marinette."

Both head over to Juleka to get their makeup done. Kim comes out practically jumping up and down.

"Do I look great or what?" Kim poses.

Marinette giggles.

"Yes, I think it's great. Can you wait here until Kagami comes out? I want to see both of you next to each other," Marinette requests.

"Sure thing Marinette!" Kim sits in a chair, bouncing in anticipation.

Adrien comes out, smiling when he sees Marinette. He's wearing his normal jeans but his shirt is one of his father's designs.

"Sorry my father won't let me wear one of your designs. He said if I'm going to be in a video seen by people I have to wear one of his designs," Adrien apologizes.

"It's alright. I understand," Marinette smiles reassuringly.

"I know, I just prefer wearing your designs," Adrien admits.

Marinette smiles.

"I don't think you can say that. You've only worn three of my designs."

"Three? I remember the bowler hat and that time for your website. When was the other?"

Marinette slightly panics. She added when he wears the scarf she made, but he doesn't know she made it!

"Um… just those two times. I counted the design for my website as twice. Pants and shirt," Marinette comes up with.

Well that sounds weird.

"Oh, I see."

Kagami comes out, looking a little stiff. Maybe because Adrien is right there.

"You can go to makeup," Marinette directs.

Adrien nods before heading that way. Kim jumps up and stands next to Kagami. Both are wearing tight, black pants, a black coat, and black boots. A white shirt is slightly exposed. They have holster on their hip with a handle to look like a gun.

"How does everything feel?" Marinette asks.

"I look awesome. You're so good at designs Marinette," Kim praises.

"My clothes fit perfectly," Kagami adds.

"Thanks, you can head to makeup then," Marinette points.

Ivan comes out in his monster costume. It's inspired by Horrificator but is mostly black with red. This monster has four eyes and a longer tail.

"You look terrifying!" Marinette compliments.

"Thanks, it's so hard to see out of here though," Ivan discloses.

"I could try to fix that," Marinette offers.

"Nah, I'll be fine," Ivan declines before walking away.

Nino comes over to check on Marinette's work.

"Is everyone's clothes ready?" Nino questions.

"They're all ready or having their makeup done. Except Lila, she's still changing because she was late," Marinette replies.

"Oh no worries! Lila stayed out pretty late at this party with her mom. It sounded so cool!"

"She told me there was traffic!"

"There could have been. Lighten up Marinette."

Nino leaves to the next station. Marinette groans. Why don't people see through her lies? I mean how can one person be so connected that they have a connection with everything you say or are interested in? You can't! It's impossible. She glances over at Adrien.

"If only I didn't promise Adrien," Marinette folds her arms frustrated.

"Promise Adrien what?"

Marinette jumps at the voice. Lila smirks at being able to scare her. She's wearing a black jumpsuit with holsters, gloves, and long boots. Unfortunately for Marinette, she looks great.

"Nothing. Does everything fit well?" Marinette inquires.

"Well, it does feel a little loose. Anyway you tighten it?"

Marinette checks the spot Lila is referring to. It seems fine to her.

"It looks fine. I wouldn't change it."

"But you're not the one wearing it. I'm not that fat Marinette. Fix it. You don't want to hold up the whole production do you?"

With a silent scream, Marinette gives in.

"Fine. But I think it's good."

Marinette puts in some pins to make the suit tighter.

"There, that wasn't so hard was it?" Lila taunts.

Nino comes rushing over.

"You haven't gotten makeup yet? What's the hold up?" Nino questions.

"Marinette had to fix my costume, she made it too loose," Lila explains.

"Hurry up, we don't have all day Marinette," Nino rushes.

He goes up to Alya to instruct her on the type of angles he wants. Marinette bites her tongue from speaking out. Lila laughs her way to the makeup stand, where she of course gushes at Juleka's work and mentions how a makeup line is made after her. Almost everyone eats it up. Marinette doesn't think she can take much more of this.

"Everyone in their places for the first scene!" Nino calls.

Besides one camera positioned on a stand, Alya and Marc both have a camera in their hand. For the first scene, Max and Mylène are in front of some props that give a lab setting. Max is writing on a clipboard when Mylène rushes over.

"Dr. Goodwin, t-take a look at this."

"What is it Dr. Satern?"

"The numbers a-are off the c-chart."

"WHAT?! This isn't good. Stop the experiment before it's too late!"

A loud continuous alarm causes Mylène to squeak in surprise. She squats down and covers her head.

"Cut!" Nino yells.

"I'm sorry, the noise was so loud! It scared me," Mylène apologizes.

"It's alright Mylène. It was pretty loud," Ivan supports.

"Can we try it again?" Nino asks.

Mylène nods.

They restart their positions.

"Dr. Goodwin, t-take a look at this."

"What is it Dr. Satern."

"The numbers a-are off the c-chart."

"WHAT?! This isn't good. Stop the experiment before it's too late!"

A loud continuous alarm causes the two scientist to slightly jump. They look at each other panicked.

"It's too late. Quick we must leave bef–"

A glass containment behind them shatters along with a small gas explosion with noise. The two are thrown to the ground. Ivan as Chaostaur emerges. His mouth opens in what will be a roar, edited in later.

"Cut! Scene one done. Let's move on to Agent Smith and Officer Jones meeting," Nino directs.

Alya whispers something in his ear.

"After we clean up the glass from this scene," Nino adds.

The rest of the day seems to go by fast. Almost like in a TV show where the scenes jump from one to another with some type of background music, because the writer doesn't want to write that part. Lila tries to get as close to Adrien as possible. He tries to push her away while staying in character. Adrien, along with Marinette, sigh in relief when Nino explains to Lila that kiss scenes are almost never in trailers. Chloe directs her agents, Kagami and Kim, about the situation. Ivan does a great job at terrifying the citizens. They're able to get all the filming done by three-thirty.

Most people, basically everyone except Lila who makes an "excuse" to leave early, stay to help clean up. Even Chloe does her best without doing much. It's something they guess. Adrien starts picking up some props, feeling down, when Marinette notices and comes over.

"Everything okay?" Marinette asks.

"Huh? Oh I guess," Adrien dismisses.

"It doesn't look like it. You can tell me, we're… friends right?"

Saying out loud to him feels weird. Which is bad, it shouldn't. Adrien sighs and moves his fingers through his hair.

"It's just, all of this movie stuff I suppose. Reminds me of my mom."

"Right, she was an actress."

"Yeah, I used to watch all her films a long time ago. Some of them at least. I never got to see her first, know how she even started that dream."

"Sorry we didn't get to finish her movie at the theatre."

"It's alright. You tried and that means a lot to me."

Adrien smiles brightly, forcing Marinette to return one just as bright.

"Besides, my father and I watched it together after I got home."

Marinette lights up in surprise. That's shocking considering he told her his father doesn't like to talk about her. He's still hurting a great deal.

"Well I'm glad."

"Me too. Just being in her shoes, even if it's nothing compared to what she went through, makes me think of her."

"I get it. If you ever want to sneak out and see another one of her films, you know who to call," Marinette offers.

"Ghostbusters?"

Marinette rolls her eyes and playfully shoves his shoulder. Adrien laughs.

"Still haven't won you over with puns I see."

"And you never will."

"Never say never. And thanks for offering to be my sneaking-out-movie-seeing partner in crime and my bud. Sometimes I feel like you're the only one that understands. Besides watching the movie with me, I think the last thing my father did for me before that was make me a scarf for my birthday."

Marinette bites her tongue before blurting out her secret.

"No problem Adrien. Everyone grieves in their own way. I wish your father could just see how much you need each other."

Adrien slightly smiles in appreciation.

"Thanks Marinette."

After cleaning everything up and heading their separate ways, Alya, Marinette, and Nino head to his house to help editing. Nino groans and bangs his head against the desk. Alya rubs his shoulder soothingly.

"I can't believe that's the footage I have! It's awful!" Nino complains.

"It's not all bad," Alya tries to encourage.

"Just the leading actress! I thought she's acted before. I just don't understand," Nino states puzzled.

"Maybe she's rusty?" Alya puts out there.

Marinette clenches her fist. 'Rise above Marinette'.

"Is there anything you can do?" Marinette asks.

Nino sighs.

"Not at this point. I'll just have to submit it as is," Nino's mood dampens.

"Can't you just take your name out of the running?" Alya wonders.

"That's worse than this! People, important people, will think I'm quitting at the last minute!" Nino refuses.

"Who knows, maybe they'll like it," Alya encourages.

"Let's hope. Anyway, the trailer has to be turned in no later than nine. I'm stuck watching my brother until ten. Can you drop it off for me?" Nino requests.

"I can't either. I'm helping my mother all morning," Alya states turning to Marinette. "But…"

Nino turns to face Marinette too. Her eyes widen.

"No way! You want Marinette, the girl who's always late, to turn in my submission?" Nino questions. "No offense Marinette."

Marinette folds her arms with an "hmpf!" Alya wraps her arm around Marinette.

"She's on time when it really counts," Alya persuades.

"I don't care if I have to stake out the place all night, I won't be late," Marinette promises.

Nino gives in with a heavy sigh.

"Fine. But please don't be late," Nino pleads handing over the disk.

That night, Marinette sits on her bed, laptop on lap with a disc in her hand. Tikki flies over. The rest of the kwamis head to bed.

"Is that Nino's short film trailer?" Tikki questions.

"No, this is 'No Longer Alone'. I didn't get a chance to watch it last night," Marinette corrects.

"Oh! The short film from the poster! Why did you ask for it again?"

"You'll see."

Tikki sits on a pillow next to Marinette and watches the short film with her. The next morning, Marinette wakes up to a crash in her room. One of the kwamis accidentally knocked something over.

"Sorry Marinette!" Ziggy apologizes.

Marinette searches for her phone to check the time.

"It's okay. I better get ready for–" Marinette interrupts herself with a scream. Her phone reads '8:43'. "I didn't set my alarm! I'm going to be late!"

Without a moment to lose, Marinette jumps from her bed and gets dressed. She runs downstairs, throws some cookies on a tray to return to the starving kwamis. Marinette is about to run down the stairs when she remembers her purse and the disks are still on her desk. Tikki phases into her purse as the girl frantically runs down the stairs.

"Morning dear, in a hurry?" Sabine questions.

"Yes! Sorry have to go! See you later!" Marinette bolts out of the bakery.

Tom and Sabine smile.

"One of these days she'll wake up on time," Tom chuckles.

"I hope I'm sitting then," Sabine laughs.

Marinette runs behind an alley and transforms into Ladybug. Never in her life as she yo-yoed across the city as fast as she is right now. Practically out of breath, Ladybug drops the transformation behind the building. She runs inside, panting and with people jumping out of her way. The person in charge of collecting the disks tries his best not to laugh at the display.

"I'm… here," Marinette announces.

"Just in time, I'll take the disk then," he holds out his hand.

She fumbles her hand through her purse and pulls out a disc. Glancing down at it, Marinette makes a decision.

"Can I ask for a favor?"

At the Agreste mansion, Adrien walks down the stairs to head to the car. He's thankful his father is letting him go to the Paris Student Film Festival. He's surprised and a bit disappointed to see his father waiting at the bottom of the steps. Did he change his mind?

"Father?" Adrien questions.

"You're late. We should have left five minutes ago," Gabriel informs.

"We?" Adrien almost staggers backwards.

Gabriel nods once.

"You wanted me to see it right? And I have free time… is it too late to go?"

Adrien smiles, his heart feeling whole.

"No! I mean no, we can go now."

Gabriel nods once again before turning to leave. Plagg pops his head out of Adrien's pocket.

"Well this is weird," Plagg notes.

"Don't spoil it, it's important," Adrien slightly scolds.

"Why?"

Plagg never gets a response though. He's forced back into hiding when Adrien reaches the car. Truthfully, it's important to the author's plot. And come on, Gabriel could use some father points. The drive to the theatre is quiet, but Adrien is thrilled. Adrien, Gabriel, and Gorilla find some seats with Adrien's friends. Though Lila doesn't seem to be present again. No shock to some of them. Nino is surprised to see Mr. Agreste there. Adrien leans over to speak to him quietly.

"We'll talk later, this is your moment. I can't wait to see how it all turned out," Adrien discloses.

"Right…" Nino rubs the back of his neck.

He wishes the disk mysteriously breaks before being shown or an akuma would attack. Seriously, they always show up at the most inconvenient times. Now would be perfect. Everyone watches the other students' entries. Marinette bites her lip looking over at Adrien, who's at the other end of the row. Her heart begins to quicken. Maybe this is a horrible idea. Especially with Gabriel Agreste here! Her hands shake as she looks at the pamphlet with the lineup. It's time. Marinette leans over to notify to Alya.

"I'll be right back," Marinette whispers.

"Now? Nino is almost up," Alya points out.

"I won't miss it," Marinette promises.

Alya nods. Marinette stands from her aisle seat and makes her way to the back. Going around, she makes her way backstage. Another film goes by before it's Nino's turn. He clenches his fist, heart racing, ready to flee at the backdoor when his film is booed. The MC, the man that helped Marinette the first day, walks on stage.

"Thank you to Bailey Capel for that wonderful film. Next we have something a little different. Here to introduce the next submission for Nino Lahiffe is his friend Marinette," he announces.

Everyone claps. All her friends look puzzled as Marinette waves, walking onto the stage. 'There's so many people! Why didn't we think of that?!' Marinette takes a deep breath before holding the microphone up.

"Hi, my n-name is M-Marinette."

Her heart races. 'Reach in for that Ladybug confidence.'

"My friend Nino is a talented director and editor. But today he's not showing one of his short films."

Alya's eyes widen. Is her best friend crazy?!

"Nino panicked, so he got all our friends together, working to help Nino's dream. I came here for costumes. I saw something that changed my perceptive on everything. I saw a short film of someone who really learned to live her dream. Her name is Emile Agreste."

The crowd murmurs to each other. Gabriel Agreste shifts uncomfortably in his seat. Adrien's mouth opens in shock. His eyes are filled with an emotion that's almost unreadable.

"I did some research. Emilie Agreste, or Graham de Vanily at the time, was visiting from London during the film festival of that year. She was sixteen, terrified of living up to her dreams. It's actually this short film that started the beginning of her career as an actress. Furthermore, Nino Lahiffe redraws his entry so that we could all see why we're doing this. So we can see where one girl started her dream."

Marinette smiles up at Adrien. He's shaking but he's not sure why.

"Without further ado, I present "No Longer Alone", a film by André Bourgeois, Gabriel Agreste, and Emilie Graham de Vanily."

The lights once again dim and the screen lights up. The words "No Longer Alone" appear along with the three names previously mentioned.

The scene travels through a town. There's something off. We see abandoned stores, doors swinging open with the wind. Some cars are parked off to the side, collecting dirt. There's not a soul around even though it's the middle of the day. It's clear no one has been around in a long time. Almost no one. A girl peers over a car. Looking right and left, she deems it safe to cross the street and enter a store.

A herd of bulls might have come through. That would explain the mess. The girl, beautifully blonde with sparkling green eyes, sorts through the food. She's wearing a long sleeve, pants, and a scarf around her head. She pulls it away from her face to see easier. Though the atmosphere would protest against such actions, the girl smiles.

Adrien stares at the screen, his eyes slightly quivering in what is a mix of emotions. This is his mom, about his age, in her first film. The one that started it all.

The girl fills her bag when she notices a notebook. Picking it up, she decides to take it. Running back to the door, she looks around, recovers her face, and races down the street. Hidden in a tree, the girl takes the notebook and pen to write in it. Emile narrates her written thoughts.

"Dear whoever reads this, my name is Claire. This is my first time writing since the accident."

Claire takes a moment to travel down memory lane before continuing.

"Almost two months ago, I woke up in the hospital, all alone. And I mean all alone. At first it was strange to wake up with no one around. Where were the doctors? Where was my family to comfort me?"

Claire is lying in a hospital bed. She blinks awake and searches the room. There's only the sound of her machine.

"I remember being in the car. We must have crashed. What could explain the sudden disappearance of everyone in the hospital. Soon I found out it wasn't just the hospital. Everyone was gone."

Claire walks down the empty streets. Panic washes over face. Did something happen?

"I searched everywhere. There was no one. I truly was alone."

After running around finding no one, Claire comes to the edge of the town. A sign stands where none was before. She reads it.

"If you read this, mutant bugs have invaded our town. Everyone has fled. Do not try to leave, the bugs have surrounded the town and will kill anyone who crosses the path. Stay put, stay alive. Help will come. Mayor Glaude."

Next to his name is a stamp of approval. Claire looks up at the road out of town before turning around and running.

"I hoped the thing was all a joke, but as the days went by I realized I was alone, trapped in a town. My only hope was to survive until help came. That was a month ago. The days are long and the nights are hopeless."

Claire searches the town in hopes that someone could still be here. Life becomes dull, threatening to break her sanity. More scenes play in her mind as she writes them. They draw tears from her.

"My only motivation came from thinking of everyone I missed. Life before the chaos. I remember mother and father sitting at the dinner table. Mom gladly listening to dad's farfetched stories he shares with my brother. Our dog paces back and forth between people begging for food. I remember Annabelle, my best friend. Sleeping over with pillow fights, bike riding in the summer, shopping for the newest clothes, talking about boys."

Claire smiles. She pictures a light blonde boy with blue eyes.

"I remember Louis Lamon. A boy that could make me smile for doing absolutely nothing. One that had friendship with every guy and the hearts of all the girls. Including me. He never knew me. I watched from a distance as he grew into the amazing guy he became. My heart raced when I thought our eyes locked. But I had to be imagining it all. Louis Lamon wouldn't ever look at me."

Claire closes her eyes as she sits in the tree and takes a deep breath.

"The thoughts of these people got me through. Who knows when someone could send help? I very well might have to find my own way out. I was tired of feeling alone."

Claire closes her notebook. It changes scenes to Claire sitting on a park swing when she hears something crash in the distance. That gets her to stand right away. Before her brain can stop her, Claire runs to the junkyard. Another sound. Is it too much to hope? Hope that noise is coming form a living, breathing person? Claire climbs over the junk to get over the hill.

At the top, Claire isn't able to see anything. No noise.. It couldn't have been her imagination could it? The stuff below her feet gives way. She slides down with a scream. The dust settles and Claire almost stops breathing at the sight of a hand helping her up. She stands with the guy's help. He smiles.

"Hello Claire," he smiles brightly.

"Louis."

The two stare at each other smiling.

Claire is back in the tree, with her notebook, just as she was in the beginning. The tree begins to shake. She looks down to see Louis smiling up at her.

"Are you going to stay up there all day?"

With a smile, Claire jumps down. Louis grabs her hand and intertwines their fingers. Both smile, the stupid smile you give when you're deeply in love.

"So whoever reads this, maybe it'll just be this notebook, but maybe it's someone who's woken up without a soul around; don't give up hope. It may take time, it may take searching beyond your comfort, but there's someone out there. Waiting for you to find them. I know because it happened to me. I spent a month wandering the town in search of anyone. Whether I'm able to escape or I spend the rest of my life trapped here, it doesn't matter. I'm no longer alone."

The final scene shows notebook paper tapped to the sign the mayor had left. The screen fades to black.

Everyone stands and applauds. Adrien watches Marinette down below smile and clap. After all the films are shown, everyone hangs outside. Marinette runs up to Nino and Alya.

"Alya! Nino! I'm sorry I didn't say anything before. I should have–" Marinette starts.

"No way Dudette! That was awesome! Thanks for finding a way for my film not to be shown. Next time I'll be more prepared," Nino thanks.

"Well, I'm sure she didn't do it all for you," Alya smiles.

Alya nods over to Adrien talking with his father. Marinette smiles slightly when they make eye contact.

"I did it for you both, but Adrien really needed it," Marinette clarifies. "Excuse me."

Leaving her two friends, Marinette walks over to Adrien, his father, and his driver. Adrien immediately sweeps her up in a hug. Her heart does funny things. After blinking a few times and processing what's happening, Marinette returns the hug.

"Thank you Marinette. That meant a lot," Adrien exults.

They pull back.

"You're welcome," Marinette smiles before turning to his father. "Mr. Agreste, I'm sorry if that was hard to watch. I had no idea you were coming. Adrien just talked about his mother yesterday and wanted to know how she started acting."

Mr. Agreste holds up his hand.

"Please, I should be thanking you. I know it means to a lot to Adrien. I haven't seen that video in a long time, I'm afraid I've lost our copy. It was nice to see," Mr. Agreste acquiesces

Marinette pulls out a disk and holds it out for Adrien.

"I made a copy, in case you wanted one," Marinette explains.

Adrien stares at the disk, completely amazed at what his friend has done. He accepts it gratefully.

"Thank you."

"Sorry for my rashness but we must be heading home," Mr. Agreste intervenes.

"Of course, see you tomorrow Adrien."

"Bye Marinette."

Back in his room, Adrien lies in his bed holding the disk up. Watching it felt so amazing. Seeing his parents young, doing what they love. Watching his mother fall in love with acting. Plagg is sitting on a counter eating cheese.

"I can't believe she did that for me," Adrien speaks out loud.

"Who, Marinette?" Plagg questions.

"Yes Marinette! It's the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me."

Plagg rolls his eyes and mutters under his breath.

"Of course she did. She's in love with you."

"What did you say?"

"I said I think you should do something nice for her. Like get her cheese! But not my cheese."

"You're right! I should do something nice for her. But I'm definitely not getting her cheese. She deserves better than that."

"Better than cheese? Your words wound me."

"I need to think about it and you know how I do my best thinking."

"Oh no Adrien, not–"

"Plagg, claws out!"

Adrien transforms into Cat Noir and jumps out his window. Vaulting rooftop to rooftop, a smile plasters on Cat's face. The wind hits his cheek, making him feel alive. Though he feels a million times better, nothing comes to mind on how to give Marinette something in return. She's the kindest person he knows. What could he possibly get her? She's not one for expensive gifts. Not that he knows for sure, she just seems like the type. His thoughts are so consumed by Marinette that he doesn't see where he's going. With a thud, Cat slams into a brick chimney and falls onto a balcony. Three seconds later, the trap door opens. Marinette is surprised to see a nearly unconscious superhero sprawled out in front of her.

"Cat Noir?!" Marinette jumps to his side. "Are you okay?"

Cat Noir's vision comes back from the blurry mess. The two copies of Marinette merge into one concerned person.

"Oh hey, mind if I drop in?" Cat smiles.

Marinette rolls her eyes.

"You're fine."

"You mean I'm feline fine?"

"Did you crash just so you could subject me to your bad puns?"

"What are you talking about? You love my puns!"

"Not really."

"Meow-ch! So hurtful."

Cat Noir stands up and dusts himself off.

"Sorry for disturbing you. I was deep in thought."

"I knew thinking was too dangerous for you."

Cat Noir laughs.

"I didn't know my princess is so salty."

"Princess?"

Cat Noir widens his eyes. Well shoot. He's never called her that in person, just in his head. He's not quite sure why.

"Well yeah," Cat Noir answers jumping onto her rail. "This is your tower so you're a princess."

"And what does that make you?"

"Your knight of course!"

"Of course. So what did have you so deep in thought?"

Cat Noir's demeanor changes, drops. Teasing Marinette is fun, talking about his problems isn't.

"Just about my civilian life," Cat replies.

"You know, you're welcome to talk with me about it. If you want. I know you can't reveal your identity, but I'm sure there are things you can say."

Marinette's kindness never ends. He's lost track of how many time his jaw has dropped in awe of her. Here he is again.

"You really would sit and listen to me talk?" Cat wonders.

"You're welcome here anytime. We're friends aren't we?"

A huge smile spreads across his face.

"I would love being furriends with you."

Marinette groans.

"I might change my mind."

"Too late! You're stuck with me!" Cat beams. "And you know, you can tell me things too. I'll come by soon. Maybe we could play a game!"

"We'll see."

Cat Noir bows dramatically.

"Until next time my princess."

"Bye you stupid cat."

Cat Noir jumps away back towards his house. His spirit almost allows him to fly. Accidentally falling onto Marinette's balcony completes this purrfect day.

Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed. So André Bourgeois helped with the student film. Makes the trio long time friends. I did that because I thought it was nice plus the producer of Solitude, the film Adrien sneaks out to see his mother is in, is A. Bourgeois. I figured he would since they knew each other and has the money. Absolutely loved writing this chapter, especially the film festival. Can't wait to end Lila, not literally sadly, and it might happen next episode. We'll see. Please Review!
