THE RAIN & THE SUN
Note: Thanks again to everyone reading, favoriting, &/or following my story. You guys may this story possible. I was really nervous publishing this story, and you guys keep me motivated to keep going. So thanks!
Sarah Yip: You're totally right! I'll do my best. Added some to this chapter. We'll see how the next chapters go. Thanks for the advice!
Ladyloveschat: Glad you love the story so far! Sorry for the cliffhanger! Sometimes, it's a good place to end a chapter. Plus, I'm slightly evil hehe.
Lylex96: Sorry for the cliffhanger! I'm sure there won't be anymore… *looks around nervously… thanks haha!
8unnix: Love your enthusiasm lol. Your review really meant a lot to me. Really high praises in my mind. No worries for your second review. Hope you're still sane enough to read this chapter.
By the way, I changed the cover image for this story. It's what the dance outfits for Marinette, Adrien, Nino, and Alya would look like. The site I used has limited supplies, and it's impossible to change their size. I'll probably take it down soon, I like the image I have, but so my readers now can see.
So I've discovered describing this show and akumatized people to someone who's never seen the show is so hard lol. I don't even follow myself lol.
The museum is real place going to be used in the show but apparently hasn't yet. So I decided to put it to some use. Also Vincent has two names? He's been called Vincent and Giuseppe. Okay ML why do you make things complicated? Lol. I do my best to work with errors, hope the way I do it makes sense. Enjoy!
The Rain & the Sun
Chapter 8: Manokrom
Time is standing still. The rest of the world doesn't exist. There's just the princess and her knight. Marinette's back leans against the rail. She can feel the coldness through her dress, but that's not why her goosebumps are there. No it's from the breath of Cat Noir in her face. Both of their blushes are quite possibly stuck on their cheeks.
Marinette remembers feeling embarrassed for tripping as usual and dragging Cat Noir down with her. She expected him to laugh. To at least make a pun from her actions. I mean he takes every opportunity to. But no, he decides to surprise her, to stay where he's at and say those words. Words that render her speechless, unable to move.
How do you respond to something that sounds a lot like a love confession? Was it even one? Does she want it to be? I suppose so because all she can think about is his kissing him.
Cat Noir can't believe those words left his lips. Not to say he regrets them, but he has no idea how they slipped out. Confessing now isn't part of his plan. At least she isn't glaring at him or swatting him away. Instead she looks frozen. Red and embarrassed. Now that his footing is stable he should get up and help her. But he wants to lean forward until he's able to kiss her. How would she react if he does that? Will she kiss him back? Only one way to find out.
Cat closes his eyes and slowly leans forward to kiss her. Making sure she has the opportunity to push him away if she wants. Fortunately, Marinette flutters her eyes a few times before closing them and leaning forward to meet his lips. A mere centimeter of air is all that's between them finally giving in and kissing. But, reality can be cruel. Before their lips can touch, a blaring car horn down below scares the two.
Their eyes pop open and the perfect moment is gone. Blown away in the blistering night air. Cat Noir steps back. Marinette stands with a shiver. How to proceed from here? Would two normal people talk about the situation? Expand on the relationship? Confess? Sure. Would Cat Noir and Marinette? Clearly not or that would have already happened.
Cat clears his throat.
"Wow, I can't believe how late it's gotten," Cat laughs uncomfortably.
"I know!" Marinette fakes a yawn. "I better get some sleep. Baking my parents tomorrow… I mean helping my bake parents! Parents bake! I'm helping my parents bake!"
Both forcibly continue to laugh.
"This cat better get out of your hair then. BYE!"
His staff fumbles in his hands.
"B-BYE!"
Cat Noir manages to take off to the rooftops. Marinette smacks her forehead and sits in a chair. Tikki giggling in the background. (A/N: scene jumps back and forth. Hope it isn't confusing!)
"That couldn't have been worse," Marinette groans.
"You two are so funny."
"You're not helping."
"Sorry," Tikki controls her laughing. "I don't think you should worry about anything. Come back inside, it's a little cold out."
"I will… after my cheeks stop burning."
Adrien detransforms. Plagg is cackling as he flies out from the ring. He lands on the bed, about to burst from enjoyment. Adrien glares at him.
"I'm so glad you find the situation so funny," Adrien deadpans.
Plagg takes some deep breaths and stops laughing, but a smile is still present.
"I thought I was going to die of laughter," Plagg wipes the happy tears from his eyes.
"This is serious," Adrien glares harder.
Plagg ignores the statement momentarily to find some cheese.
"What are you talking about? You were both being weird. Just go up to her next time and kiss."
"I can't do that!"
"Why not?"
Adrien turns his head away, not wanting to answer.
Marinette is on her chaise, still feeling pretty unsure about the situation.
"Tikki, I think I have to reveal who I am to Cat."
"Why? You're ready?" Tikki questions.
"I'm not sure, but I feel like if I kiss him without showing I'm Ladybug I'll be lying to him," Marinette answers.
"Why would that be lying to her?" Plagg asks stuffing some cheese into his mouth.
"Because, she was in love with Adrien, someone who didn't have feelings for her. What if she thinks I've been playing with her feelings?" Adrien explains.
"Adrien won't feel like that. Just tell him the truth," Tikki reasons.
"What if he doesn't understand? How can I possibly tell him the truth when I don't know it all myself?" Marinette laments.
Tikki flies closer to Marinette, noticing her downcast expression.
"Don't you like Cat Noir?" Tikki asks.
"I do, but I still feel like I'm not over Adrien. I thought I was but… we danced. And laughed. I don't want to hurt Cat," Marinette reveals.
"You're still in love with Ladybug?" Plagg questions.
Adrien sighs.
"I don't know! I didn't think so. But I miss and think about her a lot. She's incredible, selfless, brave, beautiful, yet clumsy and insecure," Adrien lists.
"Okay I get it. So what? You're going to give up Marinette now? Go back to chasing Ladybug around?" Plagg inquires.
"No! Yes… maybe? Is it possible to be in love with two people?" Adrien wonders.
"Two people?" Tikki draws out. "Well, uh… I'm not sure I'm an expert."
"But you've been around for thousands of years! Surely you have a guess. Know something but how people feel," Marinette practically begs.
Tikki thinks for a moment.
"A previous holder did say something about love. She said 'it's impossible to be completely in love with two people at once. It might feel like it but your heart only truly belongs to one person at a time. If you have feelings for more than one person, keep searching for answers.' Does that help?" Tikki offers.
Marinette groans and falls backwards.
"No! Which do I love more? Adrien or Cat Noir?"
"What do you mean I have to pick one?!" Adrien shouts.
"Well you can't date both," Plagg informs.
Adrien falls backwards on his bed, feeling defeated.
"At least until you reveal yourselves," Plagg mutters under his breath.
"It's an impossible decision!" Adrien concludes.
"No one said you have to pick tonight," Plagg points out.
"What about when I see her next? What do I do?" Adrien retorts.
"Oh gosh Tikki, what if he comes tomorrow night? I don't think I can handle seeing either of them right now."
"You're going to have to see Adrien on Monday. You're interning for his father, remember?" Tikki reminds.
"I totally forgot!" Marinette hides her face with her hands. "It'll be a disaster."
"What if I say something stupid to her on Monday? And end up revealing my secret identity?" Adrien overthinks.
"You've never done something like that," Plagg thinks. "Hm, well recently anyway."
"I'm serious Plagg! Ladybug will have my head if I admit I'm Cat Noir!"
"You're overthinking everything!" Tikki and Plagg both explode.
"I'm sorry Tikki," Marinette sighs. "I should get some sleep. Maybe things will be clearer tomorrow."
"I guess you're right. Maybe a good night's sleep will help," Adrien agrees.
Both get ready to bed, though they have a difficult time falling asleep. Marinette wakes up just before eight. Not because she really wants to, but her mom comes reminding her that they need her help. Marinette sits at the counter helping customers while her parents are in the kitchen baking for a catering gig this afternoon.
"How are you doing up here?" Sabine comes out to check on her daughter.
"Doing fine mom. How is the baking coming?" Marinette asks.
"We're almost done. We're about to pack everything up. Some things just need some last touches."
"That's good. Everyone loved the sweets last night by the way. You might get more calls about catering."
"Oh dear. Well, that's what happens when you bake with love."
Marinette laughs.
"You can go ahead and close the bakery if you want before more customers come," Sabine suggests.
"I can stay open while you're gone."
"You sure?"
"You'll only be gone a couple hours right? And Alya is coming over anyway. We won't mind staying down here. I'll call you if we need anything," Marinette insists.
"Alright. Thanks," Sabine smiles.
She kisses Marinette on the cheek before going to the kitchen. Alya arrives a few minutes later and agrees to help out.
"Only if I get free sample," Alya teases.
Marinette giggles.
"Help yourself to whatever you want. Just try to leave some for the customer," Marinette jokes.
"I'll try. It's not my fault if your parents are the best bakers."
Tom and Sabine come to the front carrying boxes.
"Are you sure you two be alright?" Sabine worries.
"We'll be fine," Marinette assures.
"Don't worry! We'll be great," Alya reassures.
"They'll be fine dear. We better hurry if we don't want to be late," Tom intervenes.
"Okay, call us anytime!" Sabine reminds.
The two leave. Alya and Marinette sit in stools by the register and help customers that come in. Thankfully it seems like a slow afternoon.
"So…" Alya draws out with a wicked smile. "Did you talk to your mysterious boy last night?"
She rests her head in her hands in anticipation. Marinette laughs, reddening.
"I did," Marinette rubs the back of her neck.
"Did he love your dress? Well he must have but what did he say?!"
"That he was outshined by my beauty."
"Aww! Wait! Does that mean he was dressed up too?"
"A little bit."
"How cute! Have you guys talked about meeting?"
Marinette bites her lip.
"No, but I've thought about it. I'm just not sure."
"Why not?!"
"What if he doesn't like me in person? All of me."
"Of course he will! You're amazing! Beautiful, talented, smart, and funny. He'd have to be crazy not to be impressed."
Marinette blushes at the compliments.
"Thank you. I'm just… different than what he's expecting. Like two different sides to me. Maybe he likes them both separately. But together? I don't know."
"Girl, just meet him. What's the worst that can happen?"
Cat Noir is akumatized. His empty blue eyes pierce her memory. Shaking her to her core.
"I guess…"
"Meeting him doesn't mean you have to get serious. Try taking it one step at a time."
Alya does have a point. Maybe she should reveal herself, hopefully Cat Noir will want to do the same, and they can see how it works out from there. Get used to each other, their complete selves before jumping into a relationship.
"Thanks Alya," Marinette smiles. "I'll talk to him about it."
"I'm here for you girl," Alya pulls Marinette in for a side hug.
The afternoon in the bakery goes well. Tom and Sabine are happy to find the girl weren't overwhelmed. They let the girls go upstairs so they can take over. The two girls go to Marinette's room. Marinette is flipping through her design book, Alya is scrolling through her phone, and music is playing in the background.
"Why are you going through your book again?" Alya questions.
"I told you! I need to make sure everything is good in the event Mr. Agreste looks at them. I'm not sure he ever will get a chance but just in case!"
Alya laughs.
"You shouldn't stress. Mr. Agreste likes your designs already. Otherwise he wouldn't have you intern for him."
"I know, but I need to be ready."
"You're crazy."
"Oh shush, what are you furiously searching through in your phone?"
"Trying to find stuff to update the Ladyblog. Also coming up with things for the summer."
"Well no one's been akumatized since Watt Zap."
"I didn't even get that good of stuff then."
"Why not? I know you were trapped in the classroom, but he was there for a bit."
"I-I…"
"You what?"
"I stopped filming after you…" Alya can't finish.
Marinette gets up from her desk chair to sit next to Alya on her chaise. Alya's head lowers, probably feeling guilty. Marinette rests a hand on her leg.
"I'm okay Alya, really. Cat Noir saved me in time, and Ladybug reversed the effects."
"Not the effects I caused believing in Lila over you."
Marinette frowns.
"Alya, I'm not upset about that. Lila is good at lying. You've apologized and you came back to me. Don't keep beating yourself over it."
"Really? You trust me?"
"More than you know. I know you have my back when it really matters. Now, no more talking about Lila. Talking about her makes me want to vomit a little."
Both girl laugh. Alya's eyes wander the room.
"Is it weird having all his pictures down?" Alya inquires.
Marinette looks around as well.
"I guess so but it was necessary. I'm surprised actually that you're so insistent on me meeting my mysterious guy. Since you're pushing Adrien and I together now."
"I just want you to be happy. Besides, if Adrien sees this guy around you maybe he'll get jealous enough to do something."
Marinette whacks Alya with a pillow. The two end of laughing and hitting each other with pillows until it's too hard to breathe.
Later that night, Marinette sits fidgeting at her desk. She tries to finish her designs while waiting to see if Cat Noir will make an appearance. He doesn't come. That night or the next. Marinette knows they weren't going to see each other every night, Cat has other obligations, but she begins to wonder if it's that or he's avoiding her. She can't think about that right now. He'll come back soon.
Early Monday morning, Marinette makes her way to Adrien's house. Once arriving she presses the button, the camera comes out.
"Who is it?" Nathalie asks.
"Marinette Dupain-Cheng. I'm interning for Mr. Agreste."
The camera goes back inside the panel. The gate opens. Gorilla opens the front door for her. He motions her to wait in the entranceway. Nathalie comes down the steps, doing something on her tablet. She looks up once she reaches the bottom of the steps.
"Do you have the slip?" Nathalie questions.
"Uh? Oh yeah," Marinette pulls out her permission slip.
She hands it to Nathalie.
"Mr. Agreste is waiting. Follow me," Nathalie instructs.
Marinette nods and follows her through the first floor. They reach a door. Nathalie knocks and waits for Gabriel's permission.
"Enter," Gabriel allows.
Nathalie steps in.
"Ms. Dupain-Cheng is here," Nathalie announces.
"Please, Marinette is fine," Marinette assures.
"Marinette… is here," Nathalie corrects.
"Come in," Gabriel motions closer.
"Call me if you need anything," Nathalie tilts her head before closing the door.
Marinette looks around the room. Gabriel is on his monitor, swiping through images. He looks up to see Marinette looking around nervously.
"Are you just going to stand there?" Gabriel addresses.
"S-Sorry!" Marinette stammers.
She walks closer, still a respectable distance away. She folds her hands behind her back and clears her throat.
"What do you want me to do? As your intern," Marinette inquires.
"You'll help out with photoshoots with whatever they need. Help get prototypes together. Assist me whenever I need. In return, I'll teach some things about the business. Things I did to get to where I am."
Marinette nods.
"Thanks again for offering this to me."
"Don't mention it. You earned it."
"What can I do first?"
"Adrien has a photoshoot today. You will accompany him. Meet him up front. He should be leaving soon."
"Yes sir."
Marinette walks back to the door, stopping remembering her design book. Maybe she could give it to him now. She grabs it and looks back at Gabriel. He's still scrolling through his monitor. Deciding against it for now, Marinette leaves the office and waits at the front door. She's looking around when someone comes.
"Marinette!" Adrien calls.
He smiles from the top of the staircase. Quickly making his way down the stairs, Marinette smiles back.
"Hi Adrien. How was your weekend?"
"Boring. I was right. Doesn't look like my lessons will stop in the summer."
"I'm sorry."
Adrien and Marinette stand together smiling. Gorilla grunts, signaling it's time to leave for the photoshoot. The ride doesn't take too long. Gorilla stops the car, letting the two get out so he can find a parking spot. Vincent waves them over once he spots them.
"Please come, come!" Vincent calls.
Next to Vincent is a director's chair and small stand. On top is some make-up. There's clothes draped over the back of the chair. A woman organizes the make-up. She has short, light brown hair, partly pulled back. Her eyes are dark brown. She's wearing a white shirt, blue jacket, jeans, and blue shoes. Adrien sits in the chair.
"Buongiorno Adriano! Good to see you. Who is this?" Vincent greets.
"Morning Giuseppe. This is my father's new intern, Marinette," Adrien introduces.
Vincent and Marinette shake hands.
"Nice to meet you Marinetta! I'm Vincent and this is my assistant, Fayette."
"Hi," Fayette smiles and holds her hand up in greeting.
"Nice to meet you both officially. But, didn't Adrien say your name is Giuseppe?" Marinette questions.
"Sì, Vincent is my middle name. I go by that professionally. Only a few get to call me Giuseppe," Vincent winks.
"I see. Well uh, Mr. Agreste sent me to help. What can I do?" Marinette changes.
"Let's see," Vincent taps his chin. "Ah! Find me a rose please."
"A rose?" Marinette asks.
"A rose," Vincent confirms. "I'll need it for the shoot. Now, go, go! Fretta!"
Marinette nods and goes to look for a rose. Vincent turns to Adrien.
"Please change into this. Presto!" Vincent instructs.
By the time Adrien finds a place to change and comes back in his new clothes, Marinette has come back with a dozen roses. Vincent carefully examines one by one. After picking up each, he throws them away, unsatisfied by them. Two are left. He looks at both before lighting up and only keeping one. Fayette starts Adrien's make-up after he sits.
"Perfetto! And Adriano, you look fantastico!" Vincent compliments.
Marinette observes Adrien's outfit. He's wearing a white, long-sleeve shirt with blue almost black trousers. The outfit also includes suspenders and a bowtie. On top of his head, Marinette's derby hat completes the outfit.
"My hat," Marinette notices surprised.
"You made this?" Vincent asks.
"Marinette designed it in a contest for my father. Made it by hand," Adrien answers.
"Grandioso! No wonder you're interning for Mr. Agreste," Vincent praises.
"Thank you. What is this shoot for? Autumn?" Marinette wonders.
"No. Mr. Agreste designed this for me. I'm entering a photography contest. Today is the last day for entries," Vincent replies.
"A photography contest," Marinette repeats. "The one for the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris?"
"Sì, that is the one. I'm going to win this year!" Vincent determines. "My inspiration is love without color. When one's love is not returned the whole world feels grey."
Good thing no one here knows how that feels, right?
"Now, Adriano! Stand so. I must not miss the deadline," Vincent positions.
In his shot, Vincent can see Adrien standing in front of the Eiffel Tower in the distance. A rose is his hand. He does his best to follow Vincent's strange posing tips.
"None of these are turning out how I imagined," Vincent sighs. "Adriano, your spaghetti has just been taken! You may never get it back! Win the spaghetti over!"
Marinette contains her giggles. She doesn't know how Adrien is ever happen to pose with Vincent directing him as such. And why spaghetti? Vincent checks some more of the pictures.
"It's missing something. Five minute break. Let me think," Vincent starts pacing.
Adrien sits back down in the chair. Fayette hands him some water.
"Are all your photoshoots like this?" Marinette inquires.
"Pretty much," Adrien laughs.
Marinette giggles.
"Does Vincent have some weird obsession with spaghetti?" Marinette questions.
"I've never asked but probably. It's always about spaghetti," Adrien replies.
"Interesting."
"Sorry you're here and not learning from my father."
"It's fine. I'm having fun being here with you," Marinette smiles.
"I do like the company. It makes the shoot more fun," Adrien smiles back.
"I'll never understand why you do these things," a new voice interrupts.
They turn to see Félix.
"Félix," Adrien states surprised.
"Do you always show up places randomly?" Marinette asks.
"Seems like it I guess. Your father said I should come and see you do some modeling. Doesn't look like you're doing much right now," Félix notes.
"The photographer is…" Marinette begins.
"Focus Giuseppe! You need to win!" Vincent yells furiously at himself.
"…Needed a break," Marinette finishes.
"I see," Félix observes. "Do you not hang out with Chloe anymore?"
"Not as often," Adrien responds.
Marinette steps aside to text someone. The five minute break ends up being a ten minute break. Giving Chloe plenty of time to show up before the shoot continues.
"Chloe? What are you doing here?" Adrien asks.
Seriously, why are all of these people showing up to his shoot?
"Marinette texted me. Said you might need some input," Chloe responds folding her arms. "What are you wearing?"
"Vincent is entering a photography contest. He's going for a black and white shot. He feels like something is missing," Marinette explains.
"He wants me to act as though I've lost love," Adrien adds.
"And the rose?" Chloe questions.
"To win her back?" Adrien shrugs.
"Well who is she? Who are you pretending to have lost?" Chloe inquires.
"I don't know," Adrien admits.
"She's not in the shot," Félix figures.
Vincent, overhearing their conversation, lightens up.
"That's it!" Vincent yells startling the teens. "I need love. I need… Marinetta!"
"Yes…?" Marinette answers slowly.
"You must be my other model," Vincent determines.
"Are you sure? I'm not a model. Chloe might be better," Marinette offers.
Vincent frames Marinette, picturing her in the shot.
"It has to be you. No one else," Vincent disagrees.
"My clothes don't match though," Marinette points out.
"I've got clothes. Mr. Agreste made one male and one female outfit. Fayette! Bring it here please!" Vincent chirps.
Fayette brings another set of clothes over and hands them to Marinette. She takes them carefully, still unsure about the situation. Nevertheless, she goes and changes. Marinette comes back wearing a navy blue and white plaid dress, light stockings, and small, black heels. Her dress has a navy blue bow in the middle that perfectly matches a smaller bow in her hair.
"Do I look alright?" Marinette asks.
Adrien thinks she looks absolutely beautiful and gives a small in appreciation.
"Hm, your hair ruins the look," Vincent admits.
Adrien stands from his chair.
"Have it down, it'll be perfect, not to mention it's pretty that way," Adrien suggests.
Marinette blushes. Sitting down, Fayette takes her pigtails out. Her hair is slightly wavy. Then Fayette does her make-up and touches up on Adrien's. The two models are ready. They stand in front of the Eiffel Tower.
"Yes! Hold onto that spaghetti! Don't let it go!" Vincent directs.
Marinette stares at the rose.
"Typical, rose," Marinette murmurs but no one comments.
Félix and Chloe watch the scene. Thoughts swirl around in her mind, focusing on her two friends in front of her.
"I'm surprised you didn't complain Vincent picked her over you. Don't you want to be up there with Adrikins?" Félix teases.
Chloe huffs, turning her head slightly.
"Like you know what goes through my head," Chloe argues.
"I guess not, you're different than we were kids," Félix discloses.
"I'm not the only one. Seems like I'm not the only one to go through a rebellious stage," Chloe jabs.
"Oh please, I heard you've done a lot worse."
"Whatever. It was all to keep Adrien close."
"Doesn't look like it worked. He doesn't love you."
"He does, just as a friend."
"And you're fine with that?"
Chloe doesn't respond for a few moments. Is she? Not really. She's been in love with him for so long she's forgotten what it's like not to be obsessed with him. Will she be okay? Yeah, there are worst people for him to be with than Marinette. Not that she'll admit that anytime soon out loud, but Marinette is a better fit for him than she is.
"Guess we both let Adrien down," Chloe eventually responds. "You're here for the summer. Anymore plans to mess with him?"
"No. I'm here on my mother's wishes. Adrien is my cousin and I should get to know him again. Though doesn't look he's changed. Doing whatever his father asks."
"Yeah. He does. What about you? What do you do these days?"
"Still have many lessons, English and violin. Practice karate and magic when I can."
"You two are similar."
"What can I say? We're practically twins. Distant brothers who haven't seen each other in years."
Vincent moves around to find the optimum angle. Even with an additional model, something is off about his photo. It's too… obvious. Something needs to change, but what? Vincent takes a couple step back, not knowing the chaos that action will cause. A cyclist collides with him. Off balance, Vincent tries to catch himself, but ends up dropping his camera. It breaks.
The four teens plus Fayette gasp at the incident. Oh no. Vincent tries not to panic.
"That's my only camera! What will I do now?" Vincent freaks anyway.
"I'm sure we can fix it," Marinette assures.
"Or get another camera," Adrien adds.
"There's no time! I won't be able to submit a photo," Vincent deflates.
He picks up the camera pieces.
"I need a moment," Vincent announces.
He takes the pieces and walks down the sidewalk.
"Should we talk to him?" Adrien wonders.
"Just give him a moment. He'll be fine," Fayette determines.
She goes over to the make-up stand. The four teens stand together.
"What now?" Félix asks.
"We wait I guess," Adrien figures.
Meanwhile, Vincent goes off to sit alone. Of course this would happen to him. He finally gets close to finding the perfect picture when everything is ruined. How could this happen? This was supposed to be his year! He wants his photo presented at the museum. Sitting on a bench, holding his broken dreams, he realizes it isn't fair.
His sadness and pain is interrupted by a serge of power. Lifting his head, a purple butterfly outlines his face.
"Manokrom, I am Hawk Moth. No one should have their dream denied. I'm giving you the power to create all the perfect pictures you want. All I ask in return are Ladybug and Cat Noir's miraculouses," Hawk Moth directs.
"Yes, Hawk Moth," Vincent submits.
The purple consumes his entire body and transforms him. His eyes and hair are now black. He's wearing a grey jacket, white undershirt, dark grey hat, and grey trousers. His shoes are black. His skin tone has changed, giving off a light grey tint. He looks like a real black and white photo. The only modern thing with color is on his chest. There lies a rectangle, his camera fused with his body. In the center is a yellow center with white streaks. On the right corner of the camera is yellow button.
All of Paris will become his perfect black and white photo!
The four teens are sitting on a bench, waiting for Vincent to return. They stand from the screams. Looking around, they spot the reason. Vincent down the sidewalk, clearly akumatized. Manokrom clicks his camera and hits a couple close to the group. The couple is transformed to look in black and white as well. They're frozen in a pose.
"Paris is strange," Félix voices out loud.
"He's been akumatized. We have to take cover," Chloe declares.
"Don't let him hit you!" Marinette warns as a blast comes their way.
They're able to jump out of the way. Félix and Chloe are not so lucky the second time. After turning black and white, they're stuck holding hands and gazing into each other's eyes. Marinette's eyes widen. She looks over at Adrien, who is already running away to take cover.
"Right," Marinette tells herself. "I need to take cover to transform."
Hiding in an alley, Tikki zips out of Marinette's shirt.
"That was too close! We have to stop him before he turns everyone to his frozen models!"
"We're going to need a little lucky then. Tikki, spots on!"
Once she's Ladybug, she swings to the rooftops. Manokrom is making his way in the opposite direction. She follows him, noticing all the frozen people. Whether they're in couples or small groups. Cat Noir lands on the roof next to her.
"Afternoon Milady. It's been so long," Cat Noir greets.
"Hi kitty. We'll have to catch up later. We've got an akuma on our hands," Ladybug focuses.
"Is that Vincent the photographer?"
"Looks like it… Didn't we face a photographer named Vincent before?"
"Oh yeah! He was a fan of Jagged Stone! How weird. Doesn't look they have the same powers though."
"No, this Vincent is turning people into black and white, real life photos."
"Interesting but I prefer the world in color."
"Guess it's time for the bug and cat team."
They jump a few rooves before dropping in front of Manokrom.
"Give it up Manokrom! The world needs to be in color," Ladybug asserts.
"I know you were feeling blue, but no need to take it out everyone else," Cat jokes.
Ladybug glares at him.
"Can you not go against one opponent without making a pun?" Ladybug demands.
"If you think I can, that's just a pigment of your imagination," Cat holds his arms up and shrugs.
Ladybug groans.
"No need to fight. Hold still and you'll be perfect," Manokrom interrupts.
The two superheroes jump away from the blast. He continues to try and blast them. He gets frustrated by every blast that misses. Ladybug and Cat Noir hide behind a car as Manokrom continues to blast aimlessly.
"Did you see where the akuma is hiding?" Cat Noir asks.
"Didn't get a good look," Ladybug replies.
"Need a distraction?"
"We have to be careful, last thing we need is one of us getting hit."
"Well we can't hide here forever."
Ladybug carefully glances around the car to scan Manokrom's outfit. Only one thing jumps out at her, the yellow. Everything else is colorless. Pulling her head back to safety, Ladybug relays the information to Cat.
"I think the akuma is the yellow on his chest. I just need you to get to it."
"Alright, on three?" Cat Noir takes his staff out.
"On three," Ladybug confirms, getting her yo-yo in hand.
"One."
"Two."
"Three!" they both jump out from behind the car.
Manokrom is no where to be seen though. Both lower their weapons.
"Guess he got tired of waiting," Cat Noir looks around the area.
"Where would he go though?"
"I don't know. Where do photographers hang?"
"Hang," Ladybug repeats thinking out loud.
Light bulb.
"I think I know where he's going. Follow me," Ladybug figures.
The two race across town, landing in front of a large building.
"The Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris?" Cat Noir questions.
"There's a photography contest. Our guy must be upset about that. My guess is he's inside," Ladybug concludes.
Cat Noir looks around at the frozen black and white people.
"A good guess," Cat Noir supplies.
The two run up the steps and quietly sneak inside. They can hear Manokrom's blast coming from somewhere. Cat Noir points the direction. Hiding behind a pillar, they watch Manokrom blast another couple. His face outline forms a purple butterfly.
"Trust me Hawk Moth, they'll come find me," Manokrom promises.
"Now's a good time for some luck," Cat Noir winks.
"That's what I'm here for. Lucky charm!" Ladybug shouts.
Ladybugs spin around and create an object. It falls toward Ladybug. She jumps back with a squeak. A sword clatters on the ground, grabbing Manokrom's attention. He gets his finger ready to press his camera.
"A sword?" Ladybug picks it up.
"Finally, something useful to fight an akuma," Cat Noir notes.
Ladybug looks around to see what she can use. The sword, Cat Noir, a rope, and tapestry light up in her mind.
"I'm going to need you to distract him," Ladybug requests. "And move him back a few feet."
"That's my specialty!" Cat Noir beams.
"Come out Ladybug and Cat Noir. I know you're there," Manokrom demands.
Cat Noir winks to Ladybug before raising his arms and walking out into the open.
"You caught me. Guess my cat-like stealth let meow down," Cat Noir surrenders.
"Give me your miraculous," Manokrom commands.
"Watch out for Ladybug. They must be planning something," Hawk Moth warns him.
"I will," Manokrom assures.
"Sorry but…" Cat Noir extends his staff out. "I wouldn't be a superhero of Paris if I gave in so easily."
He gets ready to move or defend himself.
"Art is never easy, otherwise anyone could do it," Manokrom states, ready to fight.
Thus the multitude of camera blasts begins. Cat Noir dodges or deflects his attacks with his staff. Ladybug sneaks behind the pillar and holds the sword ready to throw. Finding the right angle and taking into account where the two are, she throws the sword across the room to a rope, cutting it completely. The rope, that holds up a huge tapestry, falls and take the tapestry with it. Cat Noir flips back out of the way. Manokrom is trapped underneath.
"Cataclysm!" Cat Noir activates.
Manokrom crawls out from the tapestry just in time for Cat Noir to hit his chest with his hand. The camera turns black and crumbles.
"NO!" Manokrom yells.
Ladybug flips her yo-yo around.
"No more evil-doing for you, little akuma! Time to de-evilise! Gotcha," Ladybug releases the butterfly. "Bye-bye little butterfly."
Manokrom turns back into a dazed Vincent.
"Miraculous Ladybug!" Ladybug flings the sword into the air.
Everything is fixed, from the tapestry to all the people frozen in black and white. Félix and Chloe jump apart, acting disgusted by waking up that way.
"Pound it!" the two superheroes fist bump.
"Pretty sure we forgot to do that last time," Ladybug laughs.
"I was in a hurry to make sure my friend was okay," Cat Noir reasons.
Ladybug finds a camera on the ground, perfectly intact, and hands it to Vincent.
"I don't know what happened but with a little hard work and a different perspective you can get anything done. You're a talented photographer," Ladybug encourages.
"Thank you Ladybug. Can you take me somewhere?" Vincent requests.
"Of course I can," Ladybug agrees. "I've got it from here kitty."
"Milady?"
Ladybug waits and gestures for Vincent to go on ahead.
"Can we talk? Tonight?" Cat Noir asks.
"I can't tonight. Tomorrow? I'll meet you at our usual spot, same time," Ladybug consents.
Cat Noir smiles and nods. He can wait another night. Both go their separate, well same direction secretly. Ladybug drops Vincent off by his assistant, Félix, and Chloe. Adrien comes running. Chloe looks away from Ladybug, still hurt by what happened between them.
"I'm glad you're all okay," Adrien smiles. "Oh hi Ladybug."
"Uh hi. Good luck, bug out," Ladybug winks.
She swings away.
"Are you okay Giuseppe?" Adrien questions.
"Sì, sorry if I hurt any of you," Vincent feels bad.
"I was hiding so I was fine," Adrien rubs his neck.
"Ladybug and Cat Noir saved the day," Chloe waves it off.
"Things could have been worse," Félix dismisses.
Chloe studies Félix's words. What does that mean?!
"Where's Marinette?" Adrien wonders.
"Here!" Marinette comes running. "Sorry, I was, uh hiding! It's good to see you as yourself again. And your camera! It's fixed."
Vincent looks down at his hands.
"Ah sì, it is," Vincent confirms.
"Well what are we waiting for? Let's get that amazing picture only Vincent can capture. He has a contest to win," Marinette smiles.
"You think there's still time?" Vincent hopes.
"Of course! This is why we're here. We're not leaving until you get the picture you want," Adrien agrees.
"We can help if you want," Chloe offers.
"I suppose we can lend a hand," Félix affirms.
Vincent smiles.
"Then let's do this. Get in your places Adriano and Marinetta! I want you two to operate this machine here," Vincent directs.
Taking her place, Marinette realizes she's missing something important.
"Oh wait! Vincent I lost the rose. I'm so sorry," Marinette apologizes.
"I can find another," Chloe volunteers.
She starts to walk away when Vincent interrupts her.
"Hold un secondo," Vincent stops her.
Marinette's words from earlier filter through his mind. Roses are too predictable, too obvious. Anyone will use a rose. He doesn't want a photo that anyone would do.
"Marinetta, what is your favorite flower?"
The following late afternoon, many people including reporters are gathered at the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris. A woman stands in front of a covered photograph. Vincent stands off to the side. Adrien and Marinette stand in the crowd watching.
"I'm happy to announce that this year's winner, not only will have their entry hung here in our museum for a year but will also receive a cash prize. Here to unveil his artwork is Vincent," the woman steps aside.
Vincent walks to the photo and removes the cover. People gasp and cameras click rapidly. In the photograph is Adrien and Marinette with the Eiffel Tower in the distance. Adrien holds out a flower in his hand, conveying through his motions and eyes that he wants Marinette. On the other hand, Marinette has one hand on her cheek in surprise, wind moving her hair back elegantly. A small smile on her face. The photo is all in black and white except the lone sunflower in Adrien's hand.
The crowd claps. Vincent bows.
"It turned out really well," Marinette observes.
"We look great. Who knew along with being a great fashion designer that you're a natural model," Adrien compliments.
Marinette laughs.
"Beginner's luck. Plus you made it easy," Marinette disagrees.
"Don't sell yourself short," Adrien slightly scolds.
Vincent comes up to them.
"Congratulations Vincent! Your photo is wonderful," Marinette praises.
"Please Marinetta, call me Giuseppe," Vincent smiles.
Marinette giggles. She nods.
Later that night, Ladybug meets Cat Noir.
"Sorry I couldn't meet last night. I had a family thing," Ladybug explains.
"It's alright. I'm just glad you're here," Cat Noir smiles.
Both sit on the rooftop, looking at the city they can see.
"It feels good just to sit with you," Cat Noir speaks up.
"Yeah, I'm glad you wanted to meet."
"I wanted to talk about something."
"What is it?"
Cat Noir isn't able to answer. Usually declaring love is so easy to him. Why is he hesitating now? Is this even a good idea? Is he really going to admit to Ladybug that he's trying to pick between two girls? Part of him doesn't want to tell her, see how she'll react. The other has to know.
"It's hard for me to say," Cat Noir admits.
"That's okay. We'll ease our way into it."
Cat Noir sighs.
"Oh Bugaboo. I can't. I'll drive myself crazy thinking about it."
"Then just spit it out. Even if it doesn't come out perfect. I won't judge you."
Cat Noir takes a deep breath.
"I'm in love with two people," Cat Noir spits out.
Ladybug blinks in surprise. She wasn't expecting that. He looks away from Ladybug to look at the city. Looking her in the eye makes things harder.
"W-What?" Ladybug stammers.
"You know I love you. I have since we defeated Stoneheart the second time. You thought you wouldn't be a good superhero, but you stood up to Hawk Moth, promised to protect Paris. You were strong even when you felt scared and unsure of yourself. And you continued to be there when Paris needed you," Cat Noir begins.
Ladybug's eyes widen a little. She had no idea that's what started his love for her.
"You're my partner and I will always be there for you, but… I also love Marinette," Cat Noir continues.
Ladybug's jaw drops at that.
"She's talented, funny, and loyal. She's clumsy and has a temper sometimes," Cat Noir smiles. "But that's usually when she's standing up to others. She's strong and brave. She didn't need the mouse miraculous to be a hero, she's always been one. An everyday Ladybug. No, her own hero. She's become my best friend. I love her too."
Ladybug wants to cry. Or scream. Kind of both at the moment. Cat Noir looks back at Ladybug. She bites her lip before she says something stupid.
"How can I love both?" Cat Noir finishes.
Her heart pounds against her chest. It's like a bullet of nerves is racing all throughout her. What the heck does she say? I love you too? That would confuse him at the moment.
"I heard this saying from a friend, she said 'it's impossible to be completely in love with two people at once. It might feel like it but your heart only truly belongs to one person at a time. If you have feelings for more than one person, keep searching for answers.' So maybe you should think about it. See where your heart takes you. You should never rush love," Ladybug advises.
Cat Noir nods.
"I'll try but honestly, I don't know how I'll ever choose between you two. Sometimes I wish you were the same person," Cat Noir laughs lightly.
Ladybug freezes at that.
"Really?" Ladybug barely gets pass the knot in her throat.
"I didn't mean to offend you if I did. I don't know, I just… I can't wrap my brain around it but I just want you to."
Ladybug turns her head away. He wants both sides of her? For real? The air seems to be getting thinner by the second. Maybe she should just tell him, here and now. That Ladybug and Marinette are the same.
But his eyes, Cat Blanc's eyes flash in her mind. His hurt words whisper in her ears. He wouldn't love her, he would hate her.
"Wouldn't you hate that?" Ladybug expands. "Hate if Marinette and I were the same person."
"No," Cat Noir answers immediately. "I wouldn't. It might even make me love you-her more."
Ladybug can't stop herself.
"Even though that would mean Marinette would have been playing with your feelings? Not telling you she's me, someone you confessed your feelings to and were turned down?"
Cat Noir sighs.
"Honestly, I still would. I've done a similar thing to her."
Ladybug is confused by his statement. That doesn't make any sense at all. Cat Noir stands.
"Thanks for listening Milady. I have to go. See you soon," Cat Noir departs.
He leaps away before Ladybug can stop him. Not that she's sure she could speak at the moment. She stumbles her way home. Her kitty, her knight loves both sides of her. She has to tell him the truth. She's ready to reveal herself.
Cat Noir drops his transformation in his room. Plagg floats up to Adrien.
"Did that help?" Plagg questions.
Adrien nods.
"As much as I wish I could be with both, I have to pick one. I'll always love both, but I know which one I want to be with."
Adrien is determined to tell her the next chance he gets.
Which has Adrien chosen? Will there be a reveal? A mess that prevents them from doing so? Only I know and you'll find out soon. Thanks for reading this chapter. I hope to have the next chapter out in a few days. Maybe Sunday night?
Anyway, I want your guys' opinion about akumatized people. I'm not being a lazy writer asking because I have no ideas. I just want to know what you guys think about new people becoming akumatized or even interesting multiple people akumatizations. Though if someone has a great idea, I might use it for a future chapter. Giving credit to the person of course. Oh, the Manokrom is based off monochrome. Hope you liked him.
