The Power of Life
The day started like any other. Goku woke up. That's where the similarities end. Everything after that was different. Instead of having a hefty breakfast Goku was relegated to one bowl of food. Did I mention he was also woken up at 4 in the morning? To say he was miserable is an understatement. This had been going on for four days.
"HAAAAAAH!" screamed Goku as he came to blows with Roshi while in his Super state. Now that he had a better handle on his power he was able to go all out. Well mostly.
"Hold up" panted Goku as he depowered back to his base form.
"Hmm. What's this about?" asked Roshi out of interest. Goku looked up at him.
"No clue. When I first powered up I felt fine albeit hungry and tired but not in a stamina way. My strength has just been completely sapped from me" he explained. Roshi played with his beard and began to consider possibilities as to why this was.
"Perhaps your new form drains stamina quickly? Although you may access it through anger it may still require a constant flow of endurance to maintain for long periods of time. We have been sparring the most today compared to the rest of the week" he concluded. Goku looked dumbfounded. His mouth was slightly open.
"So the form is powerful only in short bursts?" he sighed in sadness before standing up straight.
"Hoho. At the moment. Doesn't mean you can't master it. You can do that another time though. I made you a promise last night and you could use the rest" Roshi stated. Goku smiled in relief.
"Finally. Also you said you'd first tell me what your quirk was on my second day here!" Goku stated in annoyance.
"I'm an old man okay?! You can't expect me to remember everything!" retorted Roshi in defence.
"So am I going to find out today?" sighed Goku.
"Only if you do as told!" moaned Roshi. Goku, suddenly feeling lively, immediately rushed inside Kame House and sat down, eager for his sensei to tell him everything. Roshi sat down opposite the teen and prepared to tell Goku what he wanted to hear. Roshi cleared his throat before taking his sunglasses off and looking at Goku.
"My quirk is called Life Force. It allows me to channel the power of the planet and all its inhabitants before using that power to fight. I've created many techniques with this power, most notably the Kamehameha. Others include the Evil Containment Wave, the Afterimage Technique and Thunder Shock Surprise. I'd teach these to you but considering your current power they may be deemed obsolete quickly" he explained. Goku listened with keen ears and open eyes. He took everything onboard. One thing puzzled him though.
"Wait a sec. How did you hide your ki signature from me?" he asked.
"Oh just a basic technique. By staying focused I can lower my power output so much that foes who have the ability to detect it only get a small reading. Never underestimate someone's skill Goku" laughed Roshi with Goku joining in.
"You've got to teach me that one" Goku said as he composed himself.
"Yeah I guess I can. So quickly and carefully raise your power to extreme heights. I'll teach it to you in your base form first and then you can apply it to your Super state" Roshi commanded. Goku nodded and got off the couch. He then raised his power to its max in his base form with a whiteish aura appearing.
"Impressive. Now I want you to concentrate. You have all that power. Now make the reading invisible. I don't want to detect any of it. Only a small fraction" Roshi explained with high expectations of his pupil. Goku complied and began to keep his power at the same level while dropping it at the same time. Eventually after what felt like hours his aura vanished.
"Wow. I feel just as strong as before! You can't tell can you?" he asked excitedly. Roshi's eyes widened in surprise.
"Wh…what?! I can't even detect your energy but you say you're just as powerful?! You really are quick at picking this stuff up aren't you?" he asked. Goku scratched the back of his head and smiled in embarrassment. He then faced his teacher and kept his power where it was. No point in depowering his base form if he could hide his power indefinitely now was there?
"Sit down I'm not done" Roshi commanded. Goku sat down.
"So you've got that one down. No more learning techniques today please. I want to focus on your training" Roshi stated.
"Isn't learning techniques a part of training?" asked a puzzled Goku. Roshi opened his mouth to respond before closing it again in humiliation.
"That's twice now he's done that. This time he wasn't even transformed. I'm being shown up by a teenager!" Roshi mentally complained.
"Oi stop being cheeky! Didn't anyone ever teach you to respect and listen to your elders?!" cried Roshi while jumping up and down and waving his arms around. Goku held his arms out as he smiled nervously.
"Sorry! I didn't mean too!" he responded before bowing. Roshi stopped his drama queen act. He felt full of himself for tricking Goku like that. He proceeded to turn around and walk outside. Goku watched him go with intrigue before following himself. Once both of them were on the sandy area surrounding Kame House they turned to face each other.
"Tell me Goku. My quirk is called Life Force. So what do you think it allows me to do?" asked Roshi. Goku looked confused again.
"You told me earlier. You can use the life force of the planet to create attacks and enhance your strength. Was this a trick question?" he responded before realising Roshi was by the water's edge.
"How did you get there?!" screamed Goku in shock. Roshi simply chuckled. Goku walked over to see what he was doing and noticed a turtle.
"HUH?!" he said out loud only to receive a smack on the head from Roshi.
"Quiet. He doesn't like loud noises" scolded Roshi.
"Sorry Master Roshi. Why are you feeding a turtle? Also he?" whispered Goku in response.
"Life Force my student. If I'm to use the energy of the planet and all inhabitants then I need to treat all lifeforms with care. I've raised this turtle from when he was but a new-born. It's why I'm nicknamed the 'Turtle Hermit'. We've got a sort of bond" explained the old man before coughing heavily. Goku went to help his sensei but the man held his hand out.
"It's nothing" he simply stated.
"Doesn't sound like nothing" came the sly reply. Roshi smirked before bidding farewell to his turtle friend and walking back to Kame House. Goku's gaze followed him curiously.
"Where are you going Master Roshi? Aren't we supposed to be training?" he questioned.
"I'm going for a lie down. You can do what you want for the rest of the day" came the weak response. Goku looked concerned.
"But it's still morning" he muttered before noticing the sun was high in the sky.
"No way. It's the afternoon? How long where we talking about his quirk? Better question is how long was I learning that power masking technique?" he asked himself. When he looked back at the door he saw that Roshi had gone inside and from the looks of things his ki was calm. Goku sighed before sensing something. Something that just gave off evil. His eyes narrowed in the direction of the ki signature.
"Shigaraki" he growled under his breath. Then he noticed four more evil presences. Three of which felt somewhat familiar.
"No way. Three Nomus? There's more than one?" he asked in shock. He shook his head before looking back at Kame House.
"I'm sure he won't mind if I check it out" he said. Goku let his ki flow around him before taking off in flight. He landed by a train station and purchased a ticket to the location of where the ki signatures were coming from.
"It feels like the situation has escalated in a bad way. I can't act without permission and it will be bad if I show up without Master Roshi. Damn what do I do?" he asked himself.
"Simple. I'm coming with you" responded the person who had just sat down next to Goku. Goku went wide-eyed after realizing it was Roshi and as he went to apologise for leaving without permission Roshi silenced him.
"Don't apologise. You left to go be a hero and I can't scold you for that. So to make sure you don't break the law I'm going to help you out" he explained. Goku didn't even want to ask how he had caught up with him and instead nodded with a determined look on his face. He faced the seat in front of him.
"Okay then Master Roshi. Next stop Hosu!"
