An Unexpected Offer

"So, you're going to be taking on a work study with Sir Nighteye eh Deku?" asked Goku. Class 1-A was currently in their dorm and just relaxing. They buzzed with excitement at the prospect of work studies but also at improving themselves. The training match with Mirio Togata a couple of days ago had revealed the truth to them. They still needed more training and to keep their arrogance under control. Sure, they had defeated villains, but they had been completely defeated by a third year. Then again that third year was a member of UA's Big Three, so it wasn't entirely unexpected.

"Yeah. Togata helped me out. It went poorly at first but Nighteye accepted me!" Izuku Midoriya, known to a select few as Deku, enthusiastically replied. Then he whispered something to Goku so that no one else would hear, "Just not as All Might's successor." Goku grimaced. Nighteye had once been All Might's sidekick but apparently the two had had a massive falling out a few years ago, shortly after All Might's major injury.

"I'm assuming Nighteye believes Togata should have One For All?" Goku asked. Deku's sad nod was all the confirmation he needed, "Ignore him. Prove that you are worthy regardless of what he says. If All Might thinks you're worthy then trust him. And if it's any consolidation I think you're perfect for carrying on the One For All legacy." Goku placed his hand on Deku's shoulder and winked. Deku gave a grateful smile.

"No way. Kirishima you got a work study with Fat Gum?!" cried Denki Kaminari, "Way to go man!"

"Cheers bro. Just hope I can impress him" Eijiro Kirishima replied with a small lack of confidence. Other members of the class came to congratulate him, but it was the congratulations from Mina Ashido that inspired Kirishima to act more confident. It was a fleeting feeling, but it was nice to see.

"Hey Uraraka! Tsu! I've got great news! Ryukyu would like to invite you to her agency for your work study! You'll be working with me!" came the sudden voice of Nejire Hado who had apparently shown up at the dorm just to relay this message. The two girls looked ecstatic and honoured to be requested. Goku and Deku had observed both of these events the entire time.

"Have you not received an offer yet Goku?" asked Kyoka Jiro as she snuck up on the two. Deku jumped in surprise but Goku just smirked and turned to face her.

"If you were trying to sneak up on me you failed miserably" Goku joked and Jiro rolled her eyes, "Now to answer your question. No, I haven't. Not yet. Though at this rate I doubt I will receive one." Despite his outwards expressions suggesting that Goku wasn't bothered, Jiro knew better. He was really disappointed and upset.

"Sorry to hear that. I haven't received one either. This is the first time though that work studies have been opened up to first years. Maybe the pros and agencies are concerned for our wellbeing?" Jiro suggested, desperately trying to cheer Goku up. It didn't really work. Then to add salt to the wound, Aizawa walked into the common room and up to Tokoyami.

"Tokoyami. You have received an offer from Hawks. He is highly impressed by your work and would like to further your training" the homeroom teacher informed the boy in question.

"I would be honoured" replied Tokoyami respectfully. Even when presented with exciting news, the avian-headed student spoke in the same tone. Bland, calm and respectful. No surprise there really.

"Okay. That was a one off" Jiro nervously said. Goku just sighed in defeat.

"There's always my third year" he sombrely declared before his eyes opened in fear and then narrowed in anger. Deku and Jiro turned to look where he was facing but saw nothing.

"What are you doing here?" growled Goku. He had now caught the attention of everyone present.

"What? I'm not allowed to come visit my little 'brother'?" mocked Raditz, "How you been Kakarot?"

"Don't call me that. You don't deserve to. You lost the right to call me that when you disowned your family." Goku replied with anger in his voice. He had failed to notice he had entered his Super state.

"Don't make me laugh. You can't beat me. You're weak. And you know what makes you weak? You're loyalty to your pathetic friends. You could be so much more if you learned to fend for yourself" sarcastically replied Raditz. He took pride in tormenting Goku.

"Who are you really? Raditz is most likely dead. You're not him" Goku retorted as a ki blast began to charge in his right hand.

"Oh, but I am. I know everything about you. I made some friends when I left home. I reckon you'll meet some of them one day. But for now, know that we will meet again. Til then, brother."

With that Raditz vanished and Goku went to fire the ki blast in rage, "Come back you bastard!" He never got the chance as his quirk suddenly shut off and he found himself wrapped up in a strong material.

"That's enough! I don't know what you think you saw but I will not tolerate this behaviour. Sort it out now" Aizawa reprimanded and Goku finally realised how close he had come to injuring someone.

"None of you saw him?! How?! He was right there!" Goku cried in confusion.

"Who was?" asked Mina.

"You really didn't see him?" asked an emotionally defeated Goku. He stopped struggling and felt Aizawa's scarf loosen, "I'm going for a walk. I need to clear my head. Sorry for endangering you all." With that Goku left the dorm with tears streaming down his face. Jiro attempted to go after him but was held back by Deku who shook his head sadly. With sad eyes she watched her best friend walk away from the dorm.

"What's happening to me?" muttered Goku.

"Goku? I thought it was you. What's up?" came the sudden voice of Bulma Briefs as she ran up to the spiky-haired boy.

"Not now Bulma. Not in the mood" replied Goku quickly and rather bluntly.

"Geez okay. Just thought I'd let you know that your costume is repaired. I had a lot of work to get through before being able to work on it. I've also drawn up a completely new design which I feel will fit your personality way better. I was hoping you could come by the workshop to approve it" Bulma informed him despite Goku's initial comment.

"Can't you take a hint? Leave me alone" Goku snapped as he stopped in his path. Bulma felt fear as she became the receiving end of Goku's glare. He quickly moved off again but this time Bulma didn't follow.

"I'm sorry" she mumbled before turning around and making her way back to her dorm. She took a final glance at Goku before continuing on her way.

Goku didn't even bother to look if she was still there. He just kept walking. He had to clear his head. Some time passed and no one else bothered him. He assumed they were too busy or that they were wary of him.

"Ah Son Goku. What a pleasant surprise. Just the student I wished to see." Goku showed visible confusion on his face. Who was speaking to him? The voice spoke once more, "Down here." Goku looked down and saw Principal Nezu with a smile on his face.

"Oh, Principal Nezu. I didn't notice you there" Goku quickly said before realising that his comment could be interpreted as an insult, "No I didn't mean it like that. What I mean is…"

"It's quite alright. I do have a matter to speak to you about. Two in fact" Nezu waved off Goku's blunder.

"If this is about what happened earlier I am extremely sorry. Something came over me" Goku apologised but Nezu just smiled.

"Yes. That was serious but Aizawa told me that you were apparently speaking to someone no one else could see. I'm assuming this individual was the reason for your actions?" Nezu sure was perceptive. Then again his quirk was intelligence.

"Yes. Wait you believe me?" Goku was shocked.

"I have no reason not to. Villains have crafty ways of getting to people. Should it happen anymore you should report directly to Aizawa. Is that clear?" It was more a command than a question and Goku knew this.

"Yes sir."

"Very good. Now for the other matter. As you already know we have opened work studies up to the first years this year. Some of your fellow classmates have already received work study offers. Midoriya, Uraraka, Asui, Kirishima and Tokoyami I believe" Nezu confirmed and Goku nodded in agreement.

"Yes sir. Only five members of our class have received offers." Goku's sadness was still very much present. Nezu simply smirked.

"Actually, it's six" he quickly said.

"Is it? I don't mean to be rude, but you mentioned five students" Goku pointed out but was greeted by a chuckle from Nezu.

"You're not being rude, and you would be forgiven for pointing it out. Six students have been given offers. The five mentioned and one more" Nezu started before smirking knowingly at Goku, "You."

"Me?" asked a shocked Goku, "Why didn't Mr Aizawa mention it earlier?"

"Aizawa hasn't been informed about yours. In fact, it happened just after Aizawa received news about Tokoyami's offer. After Aizawa informed me of your outburst I decided it would be best if I informed you face to face. Want to know who has taken a keen interest in you? I must say it surprised me greatly."

"Yes please!" Goku was brimming with excitement and all his anger and sadness from before had disappeared; Nezu's intended result.

"Very well. She is very headstrong and confident. Much like you she gets a kick out of a challenge, doesn't back down and values strength. This is also the first time she has taken on a student. Oh, and she isn't a part of an agency or any other hero institution." Nezu's words made Goku's heart beat faster than ever before as adrenaline began to hit in. Nezu finally decided that he had had enough fun.

"Son Goku. It is my honour to announce that your work study will be with a high ranked pro hero. You will be working and training under…"
