6: Aftershock

"I want answers Raiko, and I want them now." Lin said slamming her hands down, and leaning over the desk threateningly.

"That's president Raiko to you chief Beifong." Raiko said with a glare.

Lin just glared right back. "Asami Sato is working with spirit vines, and I want to know why."

"That information is on a need to know basis." Raiko said calmly.

"Due to the fact that her generator almost went critical in the middle of my city, and put one of my best officers in the hospital, I think I need to know." Lin said coldly.

Raiko frowned at the information. "The spirit vines are a resource found only in the United Republic. They have the potential to be an endless source of power for the entire nation."

"They also have the limitless potential to cause mass destruction. We've all seen what they can do. Can you even imagine what could have happened if the triads had gotten their hands on it today, or even worse the red lotus." Lin countered.

"That is impossible; we've taken every precaution to ensure utmost secrecy." Raiko said.

"Tell that to the triple threats." Lin said crossing her arms.

"And in case you haven't noticed impossible hasn't exactly been impossible for the last few years. Now tell me how many more spirit cores are there in my city." She demanded.

Raiko sighed, and pinched the bridge of his nose. "There are no more. I only had her working with the one you found. This was a secret project Lin and I expect it to remain just that, a secret."

"If you want my secrecy then that had better be the last one." With that Lin turned on her heel, and left his office.

After the door closed Raiko grabbed the phone on his desk. He quickly dialed a number, and held it close to his ear. "Connect me to future industries."

It was late in the evening when Asami made it back to Future industries headquarters. Korra had decided to stay behind with Bolin and Opal for a little while longer. As she entered the lobby she noticed the debris from the fight had been cleaned up, and the passage way sealed up just like she'd ordered. How did this happen, she wondered to herself as she got in the elevator. That spirit vine energy core was one of the best kept secrets in the world. How did a group of triple threat stooges find out about it?

Asami entered her office just in time to hear Joo Dee on the intercom. "President Raiko on line one for you Miss Sato." The receptionist said.

Asami sat down tiredly at her desk, and pressed the intercom button. "Thank you Joo Dee"

She grabbed the phone with her uninjured hand, prepared herself for Raiko's rant, and answered "Hello Raiko."

"Yes they got to the generator."

"No sir the any damages can easily be explained away to the public."

"No sir the other projects are still intact, and as far as I know still a secret."

"Yes sir I will still be working on them."

"Yes sir I'll make sure to keep you updated on my progress."

"Alright then good bye president Raiko." With that she hung up the phone.

Asami gave a long sigh, leaned back in her chair, and closed her eyes. "It's for a brighter future Asami, it's all for a brighter future." She said quietly to herself as she rubbed her bandaged right palm.

Korra and opal were in the hospital cafeteria when Bolin found them.

"What did the doctors say?" Korra asked as he sat down next to Opal.

"The doctors say his entire system is in a complete state of shock, and he's in a coma so deep that he may never wake up." Bolin said roughly. His eyes were blood shot, and his voice strained. It was taking everything the lava bender had to keep it together. Opal gasped, and covered her mouth at the diagnosis.

"I'm so sorry Bolin" Korra said placing her hand over his.

Bolin shook his head "Don't Korra, you have nothing to apologize for. If it weren't for you Mako would be in the morgue right now." Opal wrapped her arms around his shoulders, and held him close for comfort.

"Don't worry Bolin; he's the strongest guy I know. If anyone can pull through this it's Mako." Korra said, giving the younger brother a reassuring smile.

"Is there anything that we can do?" Opal asked hopefully.

Bolin just shook his head again. "The doctor said all we can do is wait, and pray that wherever he is in there, that Mako finds his way back to us."

The plot thickens. feel free to leave a comment, or even better a review. Also not all my updates will be as fast, or as numerous as they have been the last few day, so don't get your hopes to high. I will however try my best to submit at least one chapter every week. If you get bored I have another unrelated story that I'm working on called (Avatar: Age of Darkness) that you can take a look at. until next time farewell.
