Let's get going with another chapter! It's been a while, but I think I'm ready to get back on track! Anyway, enjoy!
A couple hours later, after school, and straight to the park went the four kids as they seem ready to enjoy each other's company... for the most part. Arnold was still a little surprised to see Helga sticking with him and Gerald, but he trusted her, since she had Phoebe with her. After all, Arnold knew deep down that if Gerald wanted to impress Phoebe, he'd show off his kite flying skills. He remembered the times he invited Gerald to his kite-flying activities. Sure, Gerald flew kites before, but flying them with a friend to support or help out was special. And to think, Helga and Phoebe were more than willing to join the activities, even though Arnold knew that Helga, as good as she is, would rather be anywhere else. But still, it felt special.
"Well, here we are!" Arnold smiled as he pulled out a kite from his backpack, much to Helga's surprise.
"Have you kept that thing in your backpack this whole time, Football Head?" Helga asked.
Arnold could only give a grin to her as he showed off the red simple diamond kite and string. "You can thank Grandpa for helping me out with this kite. It's pretty flexible and won't rip from inside."
"Pretty impressive." Phoebe grinned as Arnold pulled out a second kite, this time, a blue one.
"Yeah, I think this'll be sufficient running room for the kites." Arnold grinned as he looked around.
Helga paused as she noted that Arnold was indeed right. A lot of empty space, not a lot of kids and adults come by here during the day, and the wind was about right. Helga gave a shrug as she said, "Well, you better make it worth our time, Football Head, because if not, I'm just going to leave."
"Whatever you say, Helga." Arnold said as he handed Gerald the red kite. "I think it's best if we separated so we don't get our kites all tangled up. Gerald, would you take Phoebe and give her a few pointers."
Phoebe blushed at this thought with Helga smirking a bit. Gerald, on the other hand, looked concerned. "Are you sure you want to be alone with... you know who?"
"I do?" Arnold laughed a bit, causing Gerald to glare at him.
"You know perfectly well who!" Gerald asked as he motioned his eyes over to Helga.
However, his motions weren't too secret, much to Helga's notice. She scoffed at the African American boy as she said, "Don't worry, Tall Hair, I won't push him off the edge of a cliff. Honestly, I fling insults at the kid, not hold petty grudges."
Phoebe, on the other hand, looked a little nervous as she whispered in her best friend's ear. "You can't leave me alone with Gerald right now!"
"Remember the deal! Get a date with him, and a kiss." Helga whispered.
"Right." Phoebe said as she took a deep breath, while giving her a quizzing look before saying, "And don't forget YOUR end of the deal!"
"Are you suggesting-" Helga whispered back... before sighing. "Okay, fine, I get it. I'm not cheaping out, not no way, not no how."
After a couple moments of whispering, Helga turned back to the boys as they were finished whispering at the same time. The girl in the pink bow crossed her arms as she said, "Well, I suppose IF we're going to be split up into pairs, it does make sense for the boys to stick to the girls. So, I guess I'll stick with you for now, Arnoldo."
Arnold gave a small grin. "You won't regret it, Helga."
"Yeah, yeah." Helga said as she pushed Phoebe next to Gerald as Gerald looked over to her and blushed. Phoebe basically did the same thing as the two went off. Pretty soon, Helga found herself alone with Arnold, a dream come true for her, she was sure.
"Okay, Helga, could you help me with getting this kite in the air, please?" Arnold asked.
Helga's heart couldn't help but flutter on the inside, but her tough exterior merely crossed her arms and gave a nod. "Yeah, yeah, whatever."
As Helga picked up the kite, she turned to the football-headed kid with a question, "Say, Arnold, how do you determine when the wind is blowing just right for kite-flying? Do your stick your finger up to test how good the wind is?"
Arnold paused as he gave a smile, thinking to himself that at least Helga was trying to be as calm as possible. "I'd explain it, but there's a lot of math."
"...And to think I get a C in Math." Helga sighed, but kept calm about it as she started to run with the kite.
All the while, Gerald threw the kite up as Phoebe was beginning to run, holding the string as Gerald called out to her, "Now, it's very simple when it comes to kite-flying. Sometimes, you got put in some speed, keep an eye on the kite at all times."
"Huh-huh. Keep eye on kite, got it." Phoebe said.
"Don't try to drag it, make sure it doesn't droop, not sag, less speed, less tact, keep your wits about you." Gerald said as Phoebe nodded at every instruction. Gerald grinned as he noted the kite going up in the air. "There you go, you're doing it."
"Am I?" Phoebe asked as she looked up, before grinning. "Hey, that's not bad!"
Gerald gave a small smile towards the adorable girl's grin, before taking a deep breath. "Say, Pheebs, mind if I ask you a few things?"
"Sure, Gerald." Phoebe gave a small smile as she tried to handle the kite, making sure it stayed up in the air as she peered her ear.
"Well..." Gerald paused as he clicked his tongue a few times, trying to think of the right words. "I know you've been a bit busy with your work lately... what with you hanging around the Pink Terror and all..."
"Gerald..." Phoebe frowned, hearing Gerald's nickname for Helga.
"Sorry. I know she treats you good, mostly, but you have to admit, Helga's a menace!" Gerald crossed his arms. "Honestly, I don't know what causes her to tick."
"I do. But I would prefer not to say." Phoebe said.
Gerald looked at the black haired smart girl in confusion, but decided to willingly drop the subject. "Right, well, I don't want to talk about Helga right now. I want to talk about you. I may not say this a lot, but... well, you are pretty cute, Phoebe."
"Stop..." Phoebe frowned, blushing a bit.
"No, really, I mean it." Gerald grinned. "I know we don't hang out much, Phoebe, but trust me when I say, you look quite fine."
Phoebe gave a small smile upon hearing that, though still keeping her focus on the kite. Gerald continued to think before snapping his fingers, ready with his next question. "Say, Phoebe, I don't suppose... that is, if you're not busy..."
Phoebe gave a small smirk as Gerald was seemingly thinking over his next question. As if trying to take over the conversation, she finished his question. "...if I'm available for the weekend?"
Gerald looked over at Phoebe in surprise as he blushed, "Well... yeah."
"In that case, I'm very much free." Phoebe giggled as Gerald looked excited.
"Then, would you be all right if I took you out on a date?" Gerald asked. "Well... I mean, just as friends, but it'll be a fun friend date. No Helga, no Arnold, just the two of us..."
"Just the two of us, hm?" Phoebe gave a small grin. "Let's just say that I'm suddenly very interested, Gerald. I'll humor you for this date."
Gerald's eyes lit up as he tried to play it cool. "Okay, that's great to hear! So... I'll pick you up Saturday evening at 3?"
"Three o'clock will work." Phoebe said, giving a shrug. "Just try not to distract yourself with other girls on the way, okay?"
Gerald's eyes widened, before laughing. "What? Are you kidding? Phoebe, I assure you, my eyes will be strictly on you."
Phoebe smirked a little. "Well, then I'm reassured. I guess a date sounds great!"
Phoebe then casually handed Gerald the string of the kite as she said, "Hold this for a moment, I need to do something."
"Uh, sure..." Gerald said as he tried to balance the wind of the kite as Phoebe walked a few feet away from him. Gerald was too focused on the kite to even hear the loud, excited squeal that Phoebe was giving out, followed by the string of "Yes!"-es being said multiple times. After a minute, Phoebe walked back, all casual as she took the kite string back as she looked up at the kite. "Did I miss anything?"
"Eh, no, but I feel the wind is lessening a bit." Gerald said as the girl sighed in relief, honestly wondering how Helga was handling herself with the football headed kid.
And with that, this chapter is over! How did you guys like it? Next time, we're going to have a moment with Arnold and Helga before reuniting Helga back with Phoebe! Anyway, read, review, criticize and suggest, folks!
