The Angel's Demon
Chapter 6: An Angel's Lament
Earlier...
The man with raven hair was standing in front of a large window still inside the private bar, the streets were dark not much was visible. The lamp posts were flicking wildly on and off, he enjoyed this type of night calm and peaceful, it was a perfect night to cause some chaos. "Siderea." He called out, not moving and inch.
A bright light zoomed through the air landing right behind him, the light exploded with a crack sound and out of the flame-like explosion a woman appeared. She bowed, leaning deeply forward. She had long, curly auburn hair, she wore a red V neck crop top and a matching pair of red daisy duke shorts. Her hands all the way up to her forearms and her feet all the way to her knees were dark like charcoal, with visible cracks in that area of her skin and she emitted a burning smell. Though her ash colored skin morphed and blended into her normal pale skin that covered the rest of her body.
"I am in need of your talent." The man said still staring off into the distant darkness.
"What is it that you wish my Lord?" She asked, her eyebrows furrowing.
"Rise." He murmured, she arose from her bow to look at him, He turned to meet her golden gaze. "My treasure seems to be hiding I have already sent out the twins mors and mortis to look for her but, if that fails I need you to draw her out." He said walking back to his table and taking a seat. Upon the table lay a chess set, it was assembled on both sides, there had been some visible movement from the white pieces which consisted in the queen chess piece surrounded by a knight and the two towers. From the dark pieces only two pawns had moved forward.
"What would you have me do?" Siderea asked, her tone emotionless.
"She is unstable at the moment which is good for us but she is followed by a pest of guardians. Lucky for us at this moment she has drifted but nonetheless I believe it is time to strike, you know who your target is." He said giving a pleasant smile.
"Understood." She bowed once more, "as you wish my Lord," and she turned into the bright spark and zoomed out of the room, through the door and onto the street. As she passed the lamp posts, the light they emitted was absorbed by her so now the street was in utter darkness.
"Let the game commence, let's see what your next move will be?" He said staring intensely at the white queen chess pieces as he moved his dark tower towards her.
The gusting wind was all Angela could feel and hear, there was ringing in her ear and she felt dizzy. Suddenly she came to a stop, she opened her eyes. She was no longer in front of Devil May Cry, she was at the park. Angela took a step forward but still felt lightheaded and so in trying to take another step she faltered, tripped and fell.
She fell on her side, her wings wrapped around her. She was at the center of Capulet Park in front of her was the grand, silver statue, it was of a warrior in armor upon a horse. The silver plaque read: Legendary Hero Sparda: founder and guardian of Capulet City. She laid there for a while just staring at the statue until she regained her strength.
She got up slowly and observed her surroundings, the park was peaceful not a soul in sight. There were many lamp posts scattered around illuminating the vast area. The wind began to blow stronger, Angela sensing something in the deep forest decided to rely on her senses. It was darker in the semi forest area, she continued to walk until she reached a pond, it was circular and took up a large portion of the area.
There was a single bench there, next to it a lamp post, it was all in all a very secluded area, exactly what she had wished for. She knew that Dante and Lady might be worried for her well being but she really just needed to be alone and have some time to think. She walked over to the bench and sat down bringing her legs up and hugging them to her chest.
She sat there for a while trying to somehow look at the bright side of her life but the story of the Dacelai just kept circulating, nagging at her mind: known for their chaos among the human race, deceitful creatures were just some of the terms she remembered.
Angela had lowered her gaze starring at the edge of the pond when it began to freeze. Slowly consumed by a clear blue frost the pond was eventually frozen. Angela startled got out of the seat, she sensed she was no longer alone. Off in the distance there was a dark figure gliding around. Angela narrowed her eyes and in a fraction of a second a woman appeared before her.
"Whatever seems to be the matter?" The elegant woman questioned, her blue eyes were perplexed, her light brown hair blowing in the wind. She had one hand on her hip and she wore all black.
"I uhhh… who are you?" Angela couldn't find anything else to say.
The woman laughed lightly, "I will not harm you if that's what you meant to ask, but I'm interested in what a Dacelus is doing here all alone in the dead of night and with no knowledge of her own abilities." She said gliding around the pound, she could make any professional ice skater jealous with her elegance and sophisticated movements.
"How did you know about me?" Angela took a step near the edge of the lake. She wasn't sure if the woman was true to her word but decided to give her the benefit of the doubt.
"Words travel fast among demons and plus I saw you appear at the entrance of the park, you could barley stand after teleporting. Not to mention the white wings give you away." The woman said pointing up and down at Angela.
"You seem to know more about me than I do." Angela watched the woman as she continued to skate around the pond.
"It's not important, but tell me what's with that depressive expression you are wearing?" She said coming to a halt in front of her.
"How can I trust you?" There seemed to be no reason not to trust this woman but Angela wanted to hear it from her own words that she could trust her.
"Your father, Light did. Very intelligent and kind man who simply adored you." It struck Angela as a surprise how this woman knew her father.
"You knew him? How?" The family didn't have any friends outside that she knew of (besides Morrison of course) her mother was very reserved and she knew very little about her own father. Her father lived very isolated, in the depths of his own estate which was located in the hills surrounded by a Forrest. When Angela would spend time with him he would just take her places or buy her things, spoil her in general but never much talking besides the obvious I love you my little Angela.
"I answered your question now you must answer mine." The woman said with a serious expression. The woman knew she had spoken too much about Angela's father and it was not for her to reveal Light's truth.
Angela looked at the woman, she wanted to know more about her father but it was only fair to answer her question as well, but then of course she remembered what had been on her mind a few moments ago, "I wasn't always a Dacelus, I turned into this monster recently." Angela turned around lowering her head. She went back to sit down at the bench and she looked at her fingers.
"Monster? Explain yourself." The woman raised an eyebrow, she was perplexed with this answer.
"Surely being a demon you must know what the Dacelai did when they were amongst the human race." Angela said with disgust, as if she had eaten something sour.
"Yes, but let me tell you something." The woman got off the lake but wherever she stepped left a frost on the grass making it white where she stepped. She moved her hands around the air as if gathering something then she squeezed both her hands together and then she separated her hands. Laying on her palm was a snowflake which she presented to Angela, "you must be like a snowflake, there are many snowflakes or were but you must embrace individuality and don't be influenced by what others have done in the past, be your own self." The woman smiled and Angela nodded.
She thought for a second, she didn't and wasn't going to follow what the original Dacelai did, if anything these powers could be use to help someone somehow. "Thank you...umm…what's you name?" Angela remembered she had never asked the woman her name.
"It's," The woman froze and narrowed her eyes, Angela turned around to see but she couldn't see anything but she did feel something dark approaching. "You must leave now!" The woman urged, Angela couldn't remember how she teleported exactly.
"Uhh?" Angela panicked, looking everywhere for a possible answer.
"Think of the place you were at before you came here! Hurry!" The woman with her frost power created a sword and stood ready, for what was coming. Without a second thought Angela closed her eyes and thought of Devil May Cry, she pictured what it looked like on the outside, the red neon letters, the long alley and suddenly she was engulfed by that strong wind once more but not before hearing a duo of laughter approaching.
"Where do you think she is?" Lady said following Dante as he walked back inside Devil May Cry. He had searched for Angela around the neighborhood but she was nowhere to be found and he needed to find her quick especially after what Morrison had said to him. He need a couple more rounds of ammunition if he was going farther and there was a higher probability of finding danger.
"I'm not sure but I won't stop until I find her." He said stuffing some bullet rounds into his jacket pocket. Dante didn't appear worried much in Lady's eyes but then again Dante never gave his emotions away easily. He was uneasy for not being able to find her quickly but he would not stop until he did.
With all his gear gathered up he left Devil May Cry once more, "Dante catch." Lady threw the keys of her motorcycle to Dante, he spun around and caught them with one hand effortlessly. "Find her and make sure not to get a scratch on the bike or I'll charge you for it, I'll wait here just in case she comes back." Lady said following him to the door.
Dante walked towards the bike and strapped Rebellion that was inside of it's guitar case onto the end of the bike but before he could get on it, there was a strong wind coming from above, he looked up and a few seconds later Angela appeared but it happened so fast that Angela toppled over Dante and they both fell on the ground. "Nice of you to drop by. You didn't get into any trouble did you?" Dante met Angela's gaze. His hands were on Angela's waist as he did try to stop her from hitting the floor, Angela's hands were on each of Dante's shoulders, giving the impression that she was pinning him down and her legs were located on the sides of Dante's body.
"No." Angela answered noticing their current position, she blushed but good thing it was too dark for Dante to notice…hopefully.
"Well, I didn't think things would escalate this quickly between you two." Dante and Angela turned to look at Lady who was leaning at the opening of the door looking at the two. One of her hands was covering her mouth but there was a visible grin behind her hand.
"We have to get going." Dante said trying to get up from under Angela, she got the message and quickly scrambled up trying to avoid his gaze. Dante got on the bike, "C'mon." He said to Angela. Dante was acting unusually serious at the moment, it made her feel uneasy.
"What happened?" Angela questioned.
"Morrison called, some caused a fire at your estate, they haven't been able to put it out…"
"WHAT?" Angela felt an ice chill run across her body, "What about my mother and Alphonse? She asked demanding Dante for information.
"He didn't say anything else, all the more reason we should get going now." Angela without another word got on the bike and grabbed a hold of Dante. With the engine roaring they set out full speed towards the Dumont estate.
As they approached the street where Angela's home resided there was a visible trail of smoke high in the heavens, which made Angela all the more anxious and desperate to reach her home. When they reached the curb of the street they noticed the entire house consumed by heavy red flames.
There were dozens of fire fighters trying to hose down the fire but it was as if the fire was immune to the water. The bike came to a sudden halt Angela jumped off the bike and ran towards her home, A fire fighter presented himself in front of her, trying to stop her but she easily pushed him aside knocking him down with her strength. "Angela!" Morrison called as he was also there with the group of fire fighters. Dante unzipped Rebellion from it's case and ran full speed right behind her.
Angela entered her home, there was not an inch of it that was not blazing. The blistering heat made it hard to see and breathe but Angela pushed forward, she felt immune to the brush of the flames, they could not harm her, "MOM!? ALPHONSE?! WHERE ARE YOU!?" There was a heavy crack coming from above, the ceiling was about collapse, Angela quickly dodged it by rolling foreword.
From that hole in the ceiling, Alphonse's body fell through and landed with a heavy thud, Angela quickly made her way towards him, kneeling next him, most of his clothes were burned up and he had several burns around his body, "Al? Can you hear me?!" Angela shook him.
"It did work, my Master is always right." A voice echoed. A wave of fire brushed by Angela and Alphonse and then the fire began to gain form into a woman, she had almost an emotionless expression if not for the slight curled smirk on her lips. In her grip she was holding Angela's mother by her neck, her dark hands around her throat. Mrs. Dumont was very hurt as well, still struggling for her life, trying to release the grip of the woman in red. Mrs. Dumont had very visible burn on her face revealing the red flesh and blood.
Angela stretched her shaking arm towards the woman, begging ,"leave her alone. She hasn't got anything to do with this!"
"I beg to differ." The woman narrowed her eyes and neared her mother towards the strong flames, Angela instinctively got up and with incredible speed she lunged herself towards the woman knocking her over. The woman dropped Angela's mother who gasped for air and threw Angela off of her towards a near wall.
The woman got up but just as she did, something impaled her. Angela shook her head to clear her vision. Dante's sword had her pinned to the wall. Dante came running in guns in hand firing at the woman, "That is not enough to stop me! I am the very spirit of the fires of hell, Siderea!" She became the wave of flame Angela had seen before.
"Dante!" Angela cried she stretched her arm in front of her, there was a purple spark that emitted from her hand and it traveled towards Dante, a great purple shield manifested in front of Dante blocking the wave of fire from touching him. At that instance he noticed that there was a black orb somewhat visible in the flames, it was pulsing rapidly which gave the appearance of Siderea's heart.
"Angela drop the shield!" Angela felt hesitant but obeyed she dropped her hand and the purple shield fell, Dante summoned Rebellion and with one mighty thrust he pierced the black orb, "You need to chill babe!" He pulled the sword back, Siderea let out a horrible screech. "Angela let's go!" Dante called out he, had Mrs. Dumont in his arms, Angela quickly grabbed a hold of Alphonse who seemed to be coming to.
"YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE LAST OF ME!" Siderea screamed. The house began to collapse under the pressure, as quick as they could they made it out. Not a few minutes after they got out the house crumbled and the fire subsided. Angela noticed a bright orb leave the house and speed away. An ambulance arrived soon after and they took Alphonse and Mrs. Dumont. Angela and Dante followed the ambulance on the motorcycle and Morrison followed in his car.
They waited what felt like an eternity in the waiting room, Angela received many curious gazes but for once she was far beyond caring, she was just so worried for her mother.
"Ms. Dumont?" An older doctor presented himself in the waiting room, Angela stood up.
"Doctor." Angela gulped hard.
"It's best if you see her now." He said lowering his expression.
"Is she alright, she is going to make it, right?" She asked breathless.
"It does not seem so, she is in a very critical state and-"
"Which room." Angela interrupted not wanting to hear anymore.
"Follow me." Angela looked back at Dante and Morrison who urged her to go forward, Morrison looked tired and sad while Dante was very serious and it was as if something heavy lay on his mind. Angela followed the doctor who led her into room labeled Intensive care, he opened the door and let her in.

Angela entered the room with so much doubt and fear, she did not know what to expect. Her mother was laying motionless on the bed, the ECG (electro cardiogram machine) making a slow beep in the background. Angela walked slowly towards her mother, she was in a fragile condition, most of her skin was wrapped in gauzes. Angela's mother opened her eyes and as they gazed upon her daughter she was delighted yet pained. Angela took a seat next to the bed on a spare chair that was there.
Her mother turned her head slightly, as far as the pain would let her go to look at Angela, she gave her a tired smile, "I thought," she coughed, "you weren't going to come…es…especial…y…the way I have," she winced, Angela was heartbroken at her mothers appearance it rendered her speechless. "Treated you."
"Mom I," Angela began to say, her lips quivering so she pressed her lips together as it helped her suppress the tears that were glossing her eyes. "Everything-"
"Angela I.. I'm…so sor..ry." Her mother interrupted. "Your still…you…nothing ha…has…changed…but I didn't want…to see, to under…stand." She whispered, the ECG was beeping at a really slow pace and it's rhythm kept slowing. "Alphonse…he explained everything to…me." She struggled to speak.
"Mom, don't speak, you need to rest you're going to get better." Angela said while grabbing her mom's hand gently holding it in hers. She smiled at her mother but there was a deep pain residing in that smile as much as Angela tried the tears began to slip, she never believed anything like this could come to pass especially to a strong woman like her mother. Her mother was untouchable yet here she was like this, why?
"I feel so…t..ired…you must pr…promise me one thing…"
"Anything mom."
"Never change…and don't resent…your current…con…condition, as hard as it may seem…you will and can-"
"Conquer anything you set your mind to." They said in unison, they chuckled briefly together. This was her mother's motto, whenever Angela had-had trouble with anything her mother would say this to her, she could believe in herself. Her mother gave one last smile to her when her eyes shut and the ECG beeped.
"Mom!? MOM!" Angela pressed the emergency button. She fell to the floor still holding her mothers hand, sobbing her head pressed against the side of the bed. Her chest felt constricted as if some force was locking her in. Some attendants came rushing in, Angela wouldn't move from her mother's side as much as they tried to get her out. Eventually Dante came in and pulled her back while the doctors use a defibrillator to revive her mother.
Once, twice, three times four, five…no reaction…
"I PROMISE! I PROMISE!" She screamed, Dante held her stopping her from rushing back. Angela sobbed pressing her head against Dante's chest, her uncontrollable sob echoed through the halls. Dante let her cry it out, he grimaced being unable to do anything for her. Saddened by this situation considering it brought back one of his most painful memories…
I thought that particular song would befit such a tragic situation...
I don't known if it's normal to say but I kind of teared up while writing this last scene with Angela's mother, especially when I reviewed and edited it. I believe it's hard to watch someone die especially someone you have shared most of your life with and the feeling of having powers and not being able to do a single thing to save someone. I think it even touched Dante as well...
Anyways this was a much longer chapter, you guy deserved it after waiting so long for this one. I've been really busy at work so sorry, don't think I won't continue this, there are a couple of things that need to be explained ASAP like: Angela's father Light, Angela's role as a Dacelus, the Frost Demon at the park and our villain who's name won't be revealed till later and his henchmen as they will being appearing frequently.
Thank you so very much to those of you who took the time to read this! To those of you who review, favorite and follow I am soooooo grateful for your support and thanks for your patience and understanding! :D
Before leaving I'll leave you a quote to ponder:
"That which does not kill us makes us stronger." -Friedrich Nietzsche
I want you all to ponder that and I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and till the next update! Ciao! ;D
