The Angel's Demon
Chapter 10: Nightmares Of the Past Part 2
Early Morning
Angela could no longer keep still in bed and close her eyes, for each time she would, she was greeted by the inferno flames and the sinister raven haired man's laugh. No longer could she withstand the intense feeling of having her flesh being burnt over and over again without end. True, she had not gotten one ounce of sleep but the dreaded nightmare made her think otherwise as she almost closed her eyes again.
Lady was more irritable then ever this morning, her past was something she kept locked in a vault at the back of her subconscious, those weren't memories she enjoyed revisiting. After having this nightmare repeat more times than she could count, repeated like those annoying rock CDs Dante kept in his juke box - she had enough. Even though it was no ones fault she had a rough night, she knew her rage would spare no one and it just so happened to be in full supply.
Dante remained sprawled across his bed-couch, he was anything but relaxed and nonchalant this morning. He was staring at the fan high above him with an uncharacteristically serious gaze, his eyes were focused on the fan's slow rotation pattern. His light blue eyes were somewhat clouded and unfocused not to mention he had dark circles underneath his eyes, a strange physical trait to see him with, it was proof of his terrible night.
Patty entered the establishment completely unaware of the night her friends had and as she went inside there was a strange chill and a feeling of sadness looming around, Patty didn't understand but to put it bluntly it felt dark. It was quiet also, too quiet for her taste not even the Rock Queen CD was being played.
She walked further inside her gaze taking every square of the room into account when she notice Dante was still lounging on the couch and right before she called him out on his ungentlemanly like behavior, she hesitated noticing his drained expression.
"Out of the way!" Patty heard stomping on the stairs followed by the sound of many things crashing onto the floor . Falling from the stairs and into view were a couple of pizza boxes, old records, some band equipment, alcoholic bottles (which shattered upon falling) and other collectible (useless) items belonging to Dante's clutter. "Goddamnit Dante! Why the fuck do you have so much useless shit everywhere?!" Lady exclaimed, she finished coming down the stairs but continued to kick the items away, scattering them around.
Patty couldn't comprehend what was going on but it was obvious from Lady's enraged expression something was very wrong and she had chosen to rage it out. Patty also noticed the same exhaustion and weariness she had perceived from Dante.
"What's all that noise?" Angela's soft voice dragged, as she came into view, she was rubbing her eyes and she was faltering in her steps.
"Oh I'm sorry did I wake you princess angel-demon?!" It was pure sarcasm that was erupting from Lady's mouth. Angela knew better than to mess with her right now so she easily ignored her and considering her senses were faulty from lack of sleep it was an easy task. Angela yawned and rubbed her eyes once more and slowly scanned the room and it was until then that she noticed Patty's presence.
"Oh, Patty I.." She yawned again, "I didn't see you there." Angela's appearance was different as well, her wings were draping over her almost like a white fluffy blanket as apposed to them being behind her and her blue eyes were rimmed with red and somewhat bloodshot, she was definitely on the verge of collapsing.
"Do you have my money yet?!" Lady demanded, she glared at Angela, looking as if she was about to beat her senseless.
"I did," Angela covered her mouth feeling yet another yawn, "..promise, so I will go to…the bank today." Angela gave her a weary look.
"Hurry the hell up." Lady snapped.
Dumbfounded by her friends attitudes, "what's going on?" Patty exclaimed, she looked at each individual not being able to believe how they were reacting. They all turned to look at her even Dante's eyes shifted to look at her.
Angela shuffled towards Patty, ignoring Lady's snide comments and murderous glares. She settled one hand on Patty's shoulder and knelt before her so they were facing eye to eye. Angela knew all to well that it wasn't a good idea to have Patty around while they all had unstable emotions, so she thought it best to ask Patty to return to the orphanage for now. "Patty it's best if-" Angela felt a strong pulse around her head and almost instantly fell unconscious but not before closing her eyes. She fell literally at Patty's feet.
"Uh, Angela?" Patty said falling to her knees trying to shake Angela awake but it appeared to be she was out cold, her slow and even breathing was proof of that.
"Now what?!" Lady said finishing off another complaint only for here eyes to shift towards the sleeping Angela.
"She's not waking up, I don't know what's wrong?" Patty began to shake Angela with more urgency.
All Lady saw was that Angela was being lazy by falling asleep, "I thought I said my money was a priority! Get the hell-" Lady stopped mid-sentence and gasped feeling a strong numbing sensation take over her mind and body. Dante was making his way towards the commotion when he hurried his pace in order to catch Lady from hitting the floor hard.
"From the looks of it, I wasn't the only one who had a tough night." Dante said resting Lady gently on the ground. Dante went over and knelt beside Angela, he brushed a strand of hair from her face. "This is anything but normal."
"What do you mean Dante?" Patty said plopping down on the floor next to Angela and Lady's body, her eyes showing great distress by not being able to do anything.
He stood up, "this can only be the works of a de-" before Dante could finish his realization a drowning force heaved him down. His vision began to blur until everything went dark...
Unable to do anything about his landing Patty watched horrified as Dante fell onto the creaky wooden floor with a heavy thud. "Oh no, no, no, no! Dante?! Dante?" Patty crawled towards Dante and shook him but as she did she knew it was useless, it didn't work on Angela or Lady. On the verge of tears she looked at the immobile bodies of her friends.
Though her sadness was interrupted by a loud crashing noise heard outside in the alleyway. She quickly got up to look out the window and she saw many horrid, disfigured better described as demon like hounds racing towards Devil May Cry. Quickly she closed the curtains and went to lock the front door, "like this is going to help!" She exclaimed in a panicky tone.
It wouldn't take the demon hounds long to reach the place and it would take them less time to break in, "I need to find a way to protect everyone." She mustered up her courage and went into Dante's desk drawer where she knew he kept his dual guns Ebony and Ivory.
She could hear the infernal creatures howling and growling approaching, their heavy paws acting upon the ground. She grabbed Ebony, only being able to grab one of the heavy guns with both hands. Her hands were shaking slightly, under pressure and the thought of carrying a weapon was scary.
She turned the corner of the desk and turned to look over at Dante, Angela and Lady. She swallowed hard and her face became serious once again. "I will protect you guys!" She had only seen Dante draw his guns out a couple of times but it wasn't hard to figure out how to use it. She pulled back the safety and came to stand dead center of the room in front of the door.
Both of her hands holding on tightly to the grip of the gun and her two pointer fingers were resting near the trigger guard, ready to pull the trigger when it was time. Patty breathed in deeply "no time to be woosy wips."
The hounds were practically at the staircase of the building figuring out the best way to carry out their master's wish.
"This plan should be carried out without any interruptions." Creeve thought as he relaxed in his arm chair next to the fireplace. While Creeve somewhat trusted what Tempus was doing he always had his doubts. He at least wanted take hands into the situation.
Tempus had expressed how much more delightful it was to see an enemy succumb to their fears before ending them but it was more of a precaution in sending the demon hounds. "There is no way you will becoming back, mind and body will be lost." His emerald eyes reflected the burning flames before him, he closed his eyes wearily for an instance but as he did he looked frustrated.
"You and I will be reunited again and all of those who wronged us will pay." His lips that were in a fine line just moments ago curled up into a smirk and he chuckled to himself, "yes they will pay." He continued to look at the fire in deep satisfaction knowing it was highly impossible for Angela to escape this fate he had setup for her.
The hounds were at the front door slamming into it with extreme force, Patty stared at the door, she was ready to defend her friends with all she was. The hounds could feel the door giving in, one more shove by all four of them was all it took. Patty was surprised by how much the door had resisted and was grateful that the establishment wasn't as rundown as she thought it was.
The hounds in unison shoved the door down, breaking and cracking it off its hinges. Patty looked upon the several dark fiends as they observed her with large ruby eyes. "I won't let you touch as single hair on their heads!" Patty screamed as she fired at the closest hound to her.
It howled in pain and that was the cue for the other hounds to begin their attack, the massive hounds were about to speed towards her when they heard a noise behind them. Patty noticed their ears revert back and their black hairs spike up in rage. Patty could swear she heard a motorcycle approaching.
Within seconds Patty saw a bright blue light racing towards the pack of hounds. She ducked covering her head and their was a large explosion breaking the entire front of the building but it did scatter the demon hounds around the alley. The motorcycle hum approached and then stopped right in front of the building, Patty allowed herself to take a peak from behind her hands, she gasped.
"What kind of guy doesn't invite an old friend to a reunion especially one with so much action and drama." Trish said standing in front of Patty, "you alright kiddo?" She asked not turning to face Patty, she was more focused on the hounds that were beginning to get up and shake of her blow.
"Yeah, I'm alright." Patty said getting up and picking up the gun.
"Just stand back and watch a real demon slayer." Trish's eyes were fixed on the large hounds who were definitely not any happier, saliva was dripping down onto the floor, they were completely enraged by Trish. She on the other hand was ready to unleash hell on them, it had been a while since she had faced many opponents, she had been craving a battle like this one, one she could fully show her potential.
"Alright bring it on pups." In one hand she held one of her duo guns Lumus and her other hand was outstretched already sparking blue electricity. She may not have known what was going on but at this moment she was the only one who could get rid of the unwanted company.
Lady, Angela and Dante got up from the pitch black floor only to be illuminated by a high light above. They all stood up, completely on edge and irritated.
"Alright what now?!" Lady said looking around but there was nothing to see.
"Not the flames again..." Angela whispered and she held herself.
Dante looked up, knowing that the source of evil was controlling the lights above them. "I suggest you show yourself already, enough of these games."
"Games? Is that what you think this is? Well, your are absolutely right, this is a game, a game you don't know the rules to but they are very simple." They trio looked up noting that the voice came above them but then their focus shifted as a light illuminated a dark robed figure just inches from them. "I will present you all with a situation that in your secret heart you wish to change but the road to get there will not be easy."
The light shifted again to another part of the room where the hood figure appeared again, they all turned to look, " Of course if you wish to switch your decision their will be unprecedented outcomes and one more thing." Tempus reappeared high before them holding his pocket watch in front of him pointed at them, "You die in this realm and your minds will be lost forever, there is no coming back. Now I hope you all decide wisely, happy memories."
He started laughing that raspy cackle of his, they stood speechless at his words, they were unarmed and about to be thrown into a situation they didn't know or know what to expect. Tempus had once again turned the hands of the watch and it began to emit dark pulses that were directed at them.
Angela, Dante and Lady began to sink into the floor until they were consumed and no longer visible. "They will make less of a bloody mess if they die in here, nothing like an agonizing yet clean death!" He said laughing, he debated which character he would watch first, it was all so exciting to him. He really did have worthy contenders in this game, the descendant of a priestess, the son of Sparda and the daughter, now turned leader of the Dacelai.
"Truly worthy contenders, I am a fortunate spectator." The lights went out as Tempus decided to visit a situation in action.
A/N: So there we have it readers something short but an update is an update, lol.
