"Penny, they're wonderful!" Barked Marshall with glee. I looked at my pups, who were nuzzling up against Penny's belly. I looked into Penny's bright blue eyes. He had waited so long to find a Dalmatian like her, and the past three months she had been with them had made his job easier. He had given up his EMT truck and gear to Penny, as her job was a medical pup. He was now just a firefighter again, but except, he had three more pups to take care of. His pups. Ash, the firstborn male. He had no spots yet, just like the others, since Dalmatian's don't get their spots until about 4 months. Pepper, second one of the group. The only little girl Marshall had. She was named after his sister, who had tragically died in a fire, making Marshall determined to become one. And last but now least, little runt Flame. Ryder came into the room.
"Hey pups!" He had said, in a happy tone.
"Hi Ryder!" Marshall barked, still keeping an eye on the whiny pups.
"I want to ask a question pups... so I know that puppies have to be carried for nine months, but We've only had Penny for three. I was just wondering if it was like Zuma, where it was a different father or..."
Marshall looked at his paws. Here came the hard part. To tell Ryder about the past, almost, year. Marshall took a deep breath. "So... remember that rescue when we were rescuing Chickaletta, and I f-fell." Ryder nodded. "Well, I only got back in two days, because of Penny. I met her eleven months ago, and I fell in love. After about three months of meeting her, she disappeared, and I'd thought she'd never come back to me again. Turns out, she just-"
Penny had cut him off, "I can take it from here." Marshall smiled at her, wagging his tail. "The day before my disappearance, I had told Marshall he was a father to my pups. We met each other every weekday, down where we first met, the small cliffs, at midnight. It was a Wednesday night when suddenly I was captured by Alpha again. That's when he told me to find your pups, I couldn't stand killing one." She looked at her pups. Ryder looked at the two, "Wow. I'm surprised Marshall kept this a secret this whole time."
There was a voice behind him, "Well... not entirely the whole time." It was Chase. He had caught Marshall sneaking out a month before Penny's disappearance. "I promised to keep it a secret too. Sorry for lieing to you Ryder."
Ryder looked at the three, "I mean, it could have saved a lot of trouble, but I guess it's alright. After all, we would've had to save Alex again if it weren't for her." Marshall remembered that day. The day Alex almost ran into the busiest street, but was stopped by Penny. Ryder pet Marshall's head and him and Chase walked out. Marshall smiled, looking at Penny. She was analyzing the puppies, making sure each was healthy, without even getting up. "I'm proud of you Marshall. Saving our family. Saving me. I never thought I would ever feel loved, but as soon as my eyes landed on yours, but heart was complete." Marshall smiled, his tail wagging. "I would do anything for my family. All of it. Even if they're not by blood, I would do anything to keep anyone safe." Marshall laid down beside her, his head rest on her shoulder. A couple minutes after, they had fallen asleep to the sounds of tiny yelps from the puppies.
I was originally going to change the POV from 3rd person to first person, but I decided I would have to change everything. Anyways, I hoped you liked this chapter and I'll update again soon.
