Chapter Three

14th July 2014 – 14:25

Danny Williams's Point of View

Danny's eyes narrowed as he felt the car slow down before it pulled to a final stop, he quickly withdrew his hands from where they were still hanging outside the broken tail light, praying that at least one person who had passed the car he was in during the journey had seen his hands and had thought to ring the cops instead of simply discarding it as their eyes playing tricks on them.

He ignored the pain he felt from where his skin had been shredded by the broken shards of glass and scooted back, dropping his arms in front of him. He closed his eyes, making his body go limp as though he was still unconscious. The last thing he wanted was to reveal to whoever had taken him that he was conscious.

He had learned through hard earned past experience that people were more likely to talk in front of someone who they thought couldn't hear a word of what they were saying then someone who was wide awake and watching them. Danny needed as much information about the situation he found himself in as much as he could. The more the guy spoke, the more Danny could find out exactly why he had been taken and who had been brave enough to kidnap him in the first place.

Had he been taken for something which he had been involved in?

God knew it was a possibility, Danny had no doubt that there were plenty of people out there in the world who held a grudge against him. People who could easily have been planning this for a long time and had merely been waiting for the best time to strike.

There was also the chance that he had nothing to do with whoever had taken him and that he was instead merely being used as bait to draw out a bigger fish. He quickly discarded the target being Lou, Chin or Kono. Lou hadn't been on the island long and while the two of them got on and had things in common with one another, mainly the small fact they were both trying to raise a teenage girl, there would be little point in taking Danny to make the older man do what the kidnapper wanted. Chin and Kono were more likely but whoever had taken him had no doubt done their research and would know that when it came the cousins, all they needed to do was kidnap one of them.

That left Steve and Danny knew with a sinking heart that if it wasn't something to do with him then it would have something to do with his partner. It didn't take a rocket scientist to know how much they cared for each other, all someone would need would be a set of eyes to see.

He forced his thoughts back to the present, listening when he heard the sound of two car doors being slammed shut, the force rocking the car slightly telling him instantly that there were at least two people involved in his kidnapping. He waited, focusing his attention on keeping his breathing slowly and steady, suddenly thankful for all the times that Chin had jokingly taken him to one side and taught him how to breathe through his emotions. He had become somewhat of an expert at it since he tended to have to use it every time that Steve had done something stupid in order to stop himself from pulling out his own hair or punching his partner hard around the face.

He didn't have long to wait as the lid to the trunk was flung open, flooding the previous dark space with bright sunlight which made Danny want to squeeze his eyes shut tighter though he resisted the urge knowing if he did then it could easily give the game away.

"I can't believe he's still out cold, I thought that these Five-O clowns were meant to be tough, the best of the best on the island or some crap." A man grumbled, his voice deep and husky with an unique accent which Danny placed as South African, no doubt whoever it was had posed as a tourist to gain entry onto the island to do the job.

"That tends to be what happens when you taster a guy for as long as you did Bobby. It tends to knock them the fuck out for long periods of times." A second man answered, this voice was lighter and clearly American with a distinctive Boston accent. Danny hid a smile, taking a note of the name which he now knew for the South African man. "Anyway we should be thanking our lucky stars that he's still out cold. You know as well as I do that the Boss has special plans for this one. I'd almost be sorry for him if he wasn't a cop."

"Yeah, well let's hope the Boss get his plans over and done with quickly Ray, I don't want to stay on this island any longer then I have to, got a lot of shit memories from Hawaii." Came the disgruntled reply from Bobby. "Besides this one here might not be so tough, I heard that most people consider him to be the weak link in the taskforce. The last thing we want though is to still be here when they comes looking for this guy. Rumor has it that they aren't exactly known for asking questions before they start shooting the place up Ray and I don't particularly want to be on the receiving end of one of their bullets."

"We're both on the same page when it comes to that Bobby." Ray responded on a sigh, his tone sounding concerned as though he was taking a moment to imagine the scene which Bobby had described to him. When he next spoke, his voice was serious and professional sounding. "Bring the guy inside, the last thing we need is for some Good Samaritan to see what is happening here and to call it in. I'd like to come back here one day so if we could keep the killing to a minimum then I'd appreciate it." He stated.

Danny heard Bobby snort at the comment.

"Who the hell would come out here? We're in the middle of a deserted airfield which is situated in the middle of nowhere."

"Slim as it might be I still don't want to take any chances so let's go." Ray responded gruffly. There was the sound of a sigh and then two large hands were on Danny, pulling at his clothes and rolling him over to the front of the trunk.

"Are we in the clear to move him?" Bobby demanded.

For a split instant Danny was tempted to slit his eyes open so he could see exactly what he was dealing with but he resisted the urge. All it would take would be either Ray or Bobby looking down at his face at that exact moment in time and his game of playing possum would be over and done with. He could try and take them now but given his awkward position and the fact that his ankles and wrists were still tied it would be a pointless effort. It be better to conserve his strength for a better opportunity.

"Yeah we're good to take him, like you said we're in the middle of nowhere at the moment." Ray answered.

The next thing that Danny knew he was being picked up by someone and thrown over their shoulder in a fireman's lift hold.

"Damn, this fucker is heavier then he looks." Bobby grunted as he wrapped one arm around the back of Danny's thigh like a brand. Danny risked opening his eyes to find himself looking down at faded tarmac before he closed them as he heard the sound of Ray laughing from just to the side of him.

"Yeah, yeah, just stop your moaning about it. It's not as if you can't cope with the extra weight considering how much you bench press on a daily basis and on top of that the only person you have to blame is yourself, maybe next time you shouldn't be quite so violent in your takedown."

Danny frowned to himself as they began moving, wondering how the hell these two complete and utter morons had managed to get the drop on him. He would definitely never hear the end of it from the team once they had found him. He could already hear the teasing remarks he would received as well as picture the smirks. It would be a nightmare.

He forced his eyes open again, ignoring the sharp pain the bright sunlight caused to his retinas as he took another glance around him, taking in the large old buildings and open spaces. They were most definitely at an airport of some kind which given the lack of people was no doubt no longer in use. It would narrow it down though, there couldn't be many airports like that on the island.

He closed his eyes again, fighting against the sudden wave of dizziness which he forced himself to breathe through. He wasn't feeling sick so there was a good chance that he missed out on receiving a concussion which worked in his favor. He needed his head and his reactions to be clear and concise if he was going to get himself out of this situation.

His two kidnappers remained silent, walking into an empty looking building. It smelt slightly damp which meant that the building was probably unoccupied with very little foot traffic just like they had announced.

"Put him in the freezer for the moment, it as good a place to store him as anywhere." Ray commented in a dismissive voice.

Danny heard the sound of a heavy door creaking open before he was dumped down onto the floor, landing hard on it. He remained still, aware of the man who had dropped him watching him for a moment, no doubt to see if there was any reaction before there was the sound of footsteps followed by the door slamming closed leaving Danny alone.

He waited a couple of minutes before he lifted his head, his eyes wide as he looked around him in a considering manner. It looked as though he was in an old walk in freezer, the walls made out of metal meaning it would be difficult to get himself out. He glanced towards the shelves where the food had obviously been stored before, scanning them before his eyes stopped, a smile slowly covering his face.

He could use that.

He scooted behind the shelves knowing they would hide him from view and closed his eyes, frowning slightly as he began to plan his escape.
