Danny felt almost sorry for his kidnappers, they had clearly thought when they abducted him in broad daylight that he would be the easiest of the Five-O taskforce to subdue. It was just a shame for them that they had gotten it so, so wrong. (McDanno, standalone story)

Chapter Four

Steve McGarrett's Point of View
"I think it's best if I drive you down to the location Boss, you drove in with Danny this morning right?" Kono remarked as they exited the building, her tone making it clear that it wasn't so much a suggestion as a straight out command to him. "Not that you have much say in it, you don't have another lift to the scene."
Steve nodded once at her, following the younger woman to her bright red car before he climbed into the passenger side, knowing better to try and swipe the keys from the younger woman. He pulled his seatbelt on, barely paying attention to what Kono was doing, his mind instead fixed on trying to puzzle out what had happened and who the hell had his partner
Whoever it was who took Danny was obviously well organised and there was clearly more than one person involved in the kidnapping from the way the other man had been speaking over the call. He would hazard that it was a squad of some kind which would indicate that it was related to Steve's military past rather then something which was linked to a Five-O case.
It would stand to reason that they had been watching them all for a while now, working out their routines and how they functioned. No doubt they had also been scoping out the members of the team to see who Steve was closest to. They had to have somehow known that today was a paperwork day for them and that Danny would not only end up being the one who went out to get lunch but that he would head to Amy's café for the food.
They must have been waiting for Danny to be alone and must have thought all their birthday and Christmases had come at once when Danny had stepped out at headquarters without Steve because normally Steve always went with his partner to pick up the lunches, enjoying being able to spend time with him without any case pressure on them. He should have been with him today as well if it hadn't of been for the Governor's meeting.
Taking Danny though was a risky strategy though.
Danny was a well-known individual on the island who was instantly recognisable by his height and build as well as his slick backed blond hair and distinct way of dressing which he insisted made him look professional. He was popular as well with most of the other law enforcement offices that they worked with as well as the citizen on the street. In fact, as far as Steve was aware it was only a small majority of Detectives from Danny's old department who seemingly had a problem with him and Steve was positive that was only because the blond was a better detective then they were. Everyone else they had come across seemed to like him and enjoy speaking to him. People would have recognised him being taken and would probably step in if they saw him being beaten or abducted from the street.
The fact that they had managed to get the drop on him was suspicious as well.
Steve had made Danny the second of command of the taskforce, not only because he had been the lead Detective working on Steve's father's murder case but also because he was one of the best Detectives Steve had come across both in the force and in the military.
His mind was an incredible thing to see at work which it was faced with a puzzle. He constantly saw patterns which other people missed especially when it came to understanding the motives of the criminals they were hunting. He could read their body language with a sweep of his gaze and always know when they are lying and when they were telling them the truth. He was a great shot with his gun, rarely missing the target once he had his sight on them and was fast when he got into his stride, easily outrunning every member of the taskforce when he felt like it. Add to the fact he was an excellent hand to hand fighter and was cautious and aware of his surrounding pointed to the fact that something was wrong.
Danny was not the type of man who anyone got the drop on easily, as far as Steve was aware the only person who had managed it was Steve himself and even then Danny always fought back and would often find a way to drop Steve to the ground despite the height advantage Steve had on him.
Either Danny was sloppy which Steve severely doubted or whoever had him, had specialised training which they used against him.
"They must have taken Danno by surprise somehow." Steve stated out loud, breaking the silence which had fallen between himself and Kono. He glanced towards the younger woman, meeting her dark eyes when she turned to glance at him before focusing back on the road.
"How did someone manage that though boss?" She asked him. "Danny isn't exactly known for letting his guard down, especially when he's out on his own with no backup."
"He's good Kono but he's not infallible, he can let his guard down on occasion and make mistakes like the rest of us." Steve answered with a shake of his head.
"When would he let his guard down though?" She responded.
"Danno isn't as vigilant when we're not on an active case as he is when we are on one. On top of that he wouldn't have felt threatened in anyway, he was heading off to Amy's café which is a place he frequents at least once a week. He knows the area like the back of his hand and people there would recognise him. He would have no reason to feel uneasy there and he would stand out to others due to his hair." Steve replied.
Kono seemed to consider his statement for a moment before she slowly nodded.
"I can't deny that his hair makes him stand out in a crowd." She admitted as she hit the indicator and took one of the street to the left of them. "So you think he let his guard down because he wasn't on a case and he was in an area he knew and felt secure in. He knows the people there and I guess at the back of his mind he would have known that we were only ten minutes away if he found himself needing backup for some reason."
"Yeah and the back up would have arrived quickly for him, either from ourselves or from HPD." Steve agreed, reaching up and running a hand through his short dark hair.
"Well yeah HPD know, respect and like Danny and the ones who don't have their heads up their asses and cant get over that someone born on the mainland could be good at their job" Kono stated with a shake of her head. "So we've got to assume that someone either approached him on his way back to the Camaro or when he first arrived there and climbed out of the Camaro and that whoever it was didn't set off any warnings or make him feel at risk."
"They could have used a kid to approach him, Danno would always go out of his way to help any kid who needed his help, that's the only time when Danny doesn't pay attention to what is happening around him when he's the only one around. It's his biggest flaw and one which I keep an eye on. If the kid reminds him of Grace then all bets are off." Steve told her, reaching up and digging his fingertips into his eyes for a moment, trying to will some of the tension which had been slowly gathering so he could think clearly.
"We're here at the location that Jerry gave us Boss." Kono said as she pulled the car into a parking space and killed the engine.
Steve was out of the door in a second, his gun held in his hand as he looked around him carefully. He made a hand signal at Chin, Kono and Lou, stopping them from approaching the familiar silver Camaro parked next to the kerb. There was something off about it just sitting there so innocently, setting his instincts aflame and warning him that something wasn't right.
"I think we should contact HPD and have them send out the bomb squad to our location, we need to have them do a sweep of the car and the surrounding location before we approach it." Steve told them, thankful when Chin nodded at him, fishing his cell phone out of his pocket and pressing down on it, bringing it to his ear, clearly following Steve's order.
"Do you think your boy's car been strapped?" Lou asked, turning to look at Steve, his dark eyes squinting in the overhead sun.
"It could be." Steve said, keeping his eyes fixed on his partner's one pride and joy other than his daughter. "But it would make sense, if I wanted to take someone out then I would take the most important thing from them, torture them over it and then leave them enough clues to bring them to an area which I wanted. If you rile them up enough then they are likely to make stupid decisions."
"Like running to a car with a bomb strapped to it, waiting until they were close enough to it and then setting it off, taking out the target and any potential witnesses as well." Kono finished for him, a worried look coming to her face as she glanced towards the Camaro.
"I spoke to dispatch and they are going to contact the Bomb squad on our behalf and have them sent down here. They'll let the relevant teams in HPD know about what is happening as well, I asked them to contact Duke and get him to send down uniforms to the area to help with the search and hold the perimeter for us." Chin stated as he approached them again.
"The help would be good, maybe with the extra eyes we'll spot something which we might have otherwise missed." Kono said, gripping the butt of her gun tightly as her dark eyes flickered around her, taking in the surrounding civilians who were milling around them, casting them curious looks, clearly realising that something of interest was happening.
"I don't see any sign of movement from the car" Steve said with a nod toward it as he continued speaking. "So it's unlikely that he's still here, they've taken him somewhere else." His eyes narrowed as he spotted something glinting in the bright sunlight from the roof of the case, something which look suspiciously like Danny's badge which should have been their sure-fire way of finding the blond. He cursed in his mind, bringing his eyes up to the rooftop and scanned them briefly. "Kono, get CSU down here as well, I want them to be ready to move the minute that the Bomb squad give us the all clear. Chin. I can see cameras, I want you to get me every angle you can from them for this whole area and send them to Jerry to analyses. I want to know everything that has happened here and I want the face of the fucker who has my partner."
"That shouldn't be a problem" Chin responded, bringing the cell phone he held in his hand back up to his ear.
Steve nodded, crossing his arms over his chest as he fought the urge to say fuck it and to run over the Camaro to see what other clues Danny's kidnappers had left for him but he resisted, knowing that it was exactly what the kidnappers wanted him to and probably what they expected him to do.
"Waiting is always the hardest part." Lou said quietly from beside him, his eyes searching the scene clearly looking for anything which stood out to him.
"Yeah" Steve commented lowly, wondering briefly what would happen if he allowed them to take him out, would they return Danny if he was out of the picture? He shook his head, pushing the thought away, he could already imagine the rant that Danny would subject him to if he found out that Steve had even briefly considered that as a valid option.
There was still time to find Danny and he had faith that they would.
"Everyone should arrive here at the scene in about fifteen minutes Boss, sounds like Dispatch figured that we would need CSU down here so they've already alerted them and a team is being prepared." Kono told him as she came up to his side and stopped beside him.
"Lou, Kono, I want you both to start clearing the area of civilians, if there is a bomb then I don't want anyone to be caught up in the blast." Steve told them both, his eyes flickering in-between them.
"Understood" Lou agreed before he turned, with Kono on his heels and began walking towards where a crowd was gather.
Steve watched them for a moment before he glanced down at his watch.
Now it was simply a game of waiting.
