"You got back late."Elena said when Liah came into the kitchen the next morning, as she poured Liah and herself a cup of coffee before giving said cup to Liah, who took it gratefully.
"Yeah, turns out we don't have to worry about getting Rebekah."Elena raised an eyebrow at Liah."Turns out Emily made a deal with Nik, something about leaving Jeremy alone by giving Rebekah back to him."Liah explained."Also, the directions he gave to me, apparently he's building one of his flashy houses for all of us to live in, once he gets our Siblings back."She added.
"So where is Rebekah?"Elena asked, glancing around for the blonde Original.
"Nik Daggered her again and tried to Dagger me too but I told him it wasn't a good idea, seeing as I was the only one who knew were you lived and some other stuff."Liah explained before taking a sip of her coffee, only to moan in delight at the taste."What's in this?"Liah asked, raising an eyebrow at Elena."It's delicious."She added and Elena grinned.
"I added some blood to it."Liah raised an eyebrow at her."I saw Elijah do it once with his tea."
"Ah, yes, Elijah does love his tea and now I know why."Both girls giggled before Liah became serious."Well, speaking of Elijah, I'm gonna try and find him and my Brothers again soon."
"You're just gonna get another splitting headache again."Elena stated, frowning."Give it a rest for a bit."She added gently.
"I can't."Liah denied."I just know that if I don't get them, something bad will happen sooner rather then later."Liah said, shaking her head."And I have a feeling someone will get hurt."The both grimaced."So, what did Emily want?"
"She had Damon compel Jeremy to leave Mystic Falls and go to Denver to live with some distant relatives on Grayson's and John's side of the Family, or something."Elena shrugged lightly and Liah looked at her with narrowed eyes.
"And you don't agree with what Emily and Damon did."
"Yes, no, kinda?"Elena shrugged."I get where Emily was coming from, but I don't think it's a good idea to use compulsion like that..."Elena trailed off, grimacing."I just sounded like a hypocrite."Elena groaned."I mean we used compulsion the other night."
"No, I used compulsion and for a good reason and a bad reason."Liah retorted."I compelled Damon's memories away of this place for your protection and I know that when Elijah comes back, he'll want his privacy."Liah stated knowingly."I also used compulsion to gain some blackmail against Emily if she didn't follow through with giving Rebekah back to us."The Witchpire crossed her arms."They wrongfully used compulsion on Jeremy to leave town, even though it was for his own safety, it should have been his choice. I mean, from what I gather, he's old enough to make his own decisions."Elena nodded in agreement, seeing where Liah was going with this but before she could say anything, Liah's phone went off and she checked it to see that it was a message from Klaus."I have to go, will you be alright on your own?"
"Of course I will be, Liah."Elena said, giving her a mocking offended look."I have to help Carol Lockwood set up for the Wickery Bridge Restoration Fundraiser tonight anyway."
"Interesting."Liah said sarcastically and Elena poked her tongue out at Liah's retreating back.
After helping Carol and a few others set up everything for the Fundraiser, Carol had taken Elena back to the Lockwood Estate, saying that she had something for the Immortal to wear when she learned that Elena wasn't going to come to the event, all because she had nothing to wear to something that was semi formal.
"Oh, Carol, I couldn't!"Elena exclaimed, looking at the dress, that was laid out on Carol's bed, in shock and awe.
It was a 1950's Vintage A-Line Blue Off Shoulder Neckline Dress, which had little ribbons on the sides of the arms and a tight fitting bodice with princess seams to perfectly adapt to the contours of the body, with said bodice ending right at the waist and giving way to a lovely, fluffy, big, a-line circle skirt.
"But Elena, you look lovely in blue!"
"But it's yours."
"No it's not."Carol denied."It was suppose to be your Birthday Present."She added with a pointed look towards Elena, who blushed."And you are going to wear it at this Event."She stated sternly.
"Ok."Elena said meekly, knowing better then to go against Carol with these things.
"Well, don't you look smoking hot."Elena, who was about to step up to the second step in her matching blue high heels that went with her dress, turned to see Damon and Alaric heading towards her.
"Damon, Alaric."Elena greeted them with tense shoulders as they came to a stop in front of her.
"Shall we?"Damon asked, smirking at Elena as he held out his arm for her to loop hers through."Oh come on."He said when she pursed her lips."It's not like I'm going to be able to sweep you off your feet, seeing as you only have eyes for one Vampire, who's currently dead at the moment."
Elena glared before sighing in annoyance and looped her arm through Damon's, allowing him to escort her inside. Upon entering, it didn't take them long to part ways, which Elena was glad about and happily chatting with some of the guests before someone tapped her on the shoulder, causing her to turn to see Klaus.
"Excuse me."Elena said to the guests, who waved her off."What are you doing here?"Elena asked as Klaus wrapped an arm around her waist.
"You look lovely this evening."Klaus said, smiling down at Elena."It's a pity Elijah can't see you wearing this beautiful outfit."He added with a regrettable smile and Elena sighed.
"Klaus..."Elena trailed off.
"Liah told me that you'd be here and I thought that it would be a good idea to make myself known to this so called Council I've been hearing about."Klaus said as he guided her under the staircase and Elena saw Carol.
"Klaus, please don't threaten them."Elena said and Klaus raised an eyebrow at her."They don't take kindly to it."Elena warned him, frowning.
"Please, I only want to make a good impression."He said, smirking as Carol came over to them.
"Elena, who is this?"Carol asked, raising an eyebrow at Klaus.
"This is Klaus, Elijah's Young Brother."Elena said, knowing that the moment she mentioned Elijah, Carol would realise that Klaus was a Vampire."Klaus, this is Mayor Carol Lockwood.
"Oh."Was all that Carol could say before she smiled the best she could."It's a pleasure to meet you, Klaus."
It wasn't long before the trio started talking as if everything was alright and Carol learned that Klaus had turned her Son into a Hybrid so that he could shift without a Full Moon. Somewhere along the way, Elena realised that Klaus had started flirting with Carol, who just managed to smile through the whole thing and Elena just decided to bite her tongue and stay quite.
"Look at what the cat dragged in."Damon stated as he came to stand in front of the trio and smiled charmingly at them."Nice vest."He sneered.
"Thank you very much."Klaus said, giving Damon a quick once over."Good to see you, Damon."Damon just smiled."Uh, Carol, Elena, and I were just discussing if you would be tonight's other big benefactor."Klaus said, glancing between Carol and Elena.
"What do you say, Damon?"Carol asked Damon."Klaus has made a very generous pledge."She glanced at Klaus."You know how we're chomping at the bit to begin the renovation."She added and Damon hmmed as she sipped on her glass of wine.
"Carol, don't take this the wrong way"Elena closed her eyes briefly when she realised that Damon was about to do."but do you realise you've been kissing the ass of an Immortal Hybrid who ruined your Son's life?"Damon asked.
"Damon."Elena hissed out, glaring at the blue eyed Vampire as Carol shook her head at Damon.
"Come now, some might say I saved it what with that nasty Full Moon Business."Klaus stated, smiling before turning to Carol as Elena couldn't help but fidget with her Moonlight Ring."I never had to go through it myself more then twice, to be honest"He glanced at Elena before turning completely to look at Carol."but still, I'm very sympathetic."Klaus said gently and Carol nodded softly while Damon watched in disgust. Meanwhile, Elena was remembering her first transformation, which happened on the twenty-third of September, six days after Rebekah had been Daggered.
"The first transformation is always the hardest."Klaus said as he, Liah and Elena walked through the woods, glancing at the rising Full Moon then at Elena, who looked very skittish."With all your bones breaking, you'll want to try and stop yourself from transforming, but the thing is, love, don't fight it."
"Why?"Elena asked softly as they came to a stop deep in the forest."And why are we doing this in the woods, shouldn't I be locked up in a cell or something until it's over?"
"No, it's better if you did it in nature, where you can roam freely, and under the moonlight."Liah stated and gave Elena a small smile."As for why you shouldn't fight it is because it could take hours."
"Hours!?"Elena yelped and both of the older Immortals nodded."When do you think it will-Ah!"Elena said in surprise when her ankle suddenly snapped, and dropped to her hands and knees while Klaus and Liah stepped back.
"Now."Klaus and Liah said in unison as Elena glanced up at them.
"Elena, you know this is going to hurt."Klaus said, bending down in front of Elena, who looked at him in pain from her bones starting to crack and break."So do as I say."Elena nodded as best she could."Concentrate on the air in your lungs and the ground beneath you."He explained.
The he bones in her back started to break and shift."Ow! Ah!"Elena gritted her teeth.
"Now remember, don't fight it, let it consume you."Klaus stated firmly.
"Ok, I got this."Elena said, trying to sound strong.
Elena fell forward with a groan and her hair fell over her face before she whipped it back when she glanced up at Klaus and Liah, her eyes yellow. As she started screaming and crying out in agonising pain, her body started to shift and reform.
It wasn't long before a Werewolf with glowing yellow eyes and fur that was as white as pure snow was standing before them, snarling and growling lowly at them. The Wolf shifted slightly from paw to paw, eyeing them both as they smiled at her before deciding not to attack as she could sense that she would be easily outmatched and took off in the opposite direction.
"Klaus has promised to protect Tyler, Damon."Carol said as she looked back at Damon."And our town."She added.
"From who?"Damon asked sarcastically."His Hybrids are the ones this town needs protection from."He hissed.
"Well, I'd have no use for them if your Brother would kindly return my Family."
"Not gonna happen."
"That's what I thought."Klaus stated."Which is why I've come to an agreement with the Mayor."Elena blinked, wondering when that happened."You and the Council stay out of my hair, I'll stay out of yours."Carol nodded along with what Klaus was saying."Your town gets protected, my Hybrids get left alone, and everybody will be happy."Damon stared at Klaus with narrowed eyes and shook his head slightly."All you have to do is get Stefan to stop decapitating my friends."
"Please, Damon, just get your Brother under control"Damon looked at Carol, who stared back at him."or the Council will be forced to take action against him."Carol warned him.
"You gotta be kidding me."Damon grumbled.
"Oh, come on, mate."Klaus said in a mocking soft and sweet voice."Give peace a chance."
"You're agreeing with this?"Damon asked, turning to Elena, who had decided to stay silent during the whole talk."Of course you're agreeing to this because you just want Elijah back."
"Damn, shut up."Elena warned him. Scoffing, Damon stormed off while Carol turned to Elena with a questionable look in her eyes."Elijah and I... We're what they, the Witches, call a Balanced Pair, while Vampires and Werewolves call them a Bonded Pair?"Elena looked up at Klaus, who nodded.
"Like Soulmates?"Carol asked, raising an eyebrow and Elena sighed but nodded.
"I suppose so."Elena muttered before excusing herself from both Klaus and Carol.
Elena was walking around, smiling at the guests and doing small talk with them whenever people drew her into a conversation, but she finally managed to leave the party and went to head outside for some air when Damon grabbed her by the arm and silently got Klaus' attention.
"Let go!"Elena hissed once the trio were in the study and Damon did as she asked before shutting the door.
"Do you have to manhandle her?"Klaus asked, slightly angry that the young Vampire would even dare to touch his Brother's Intended, but Damon didn't answer, causing Klaus to sigh."What now? You know you pulled me away from a fascinating conversation about landscaping the town square."
"Stefan just grabbed Emily."Klaus raised an eyebrow while Elena looked unimpressed.
"Well, he's getting desperate."Klaus stated.
"He's gonna try and use her against you."Damon snapped."Do what he says. Get rid of your Hybrids."
"Or what?"Klaus asked icily."Stefan would never dream of killing her."
"Sure about that?"Damon retorted as Elena rolled her eyes and sat down on the couch, looking bored."He just tried to behead someone in the middle of a Council Party."
"What!?"Elena exclaimed, eyes wide as Klaus turned his back on them.
"He's operating on crazy right now."Damon continued on as if he hadn't heard Elena.
Klaus looked back at them with a wide smile."Well, crazy or not, that kind of love never dies."Damon's eyes narrowed and Elena raised an eyebrow at Klaus."He's bluffing."
"Maybe he is. Maybe he isn't."Damon retorted."But if you don't want to believe him,"Damon walked over to them."believe me."Damon got in Klaus' face."I know my Brother better then anyone."Klaus' eyes narrowed."And right now I don't have a clue how far he's willing to take this so if he says blink, I suggest you blink."Klaus stared at him for a moment before he looked at Elena, who raised an eyebrow at him.
"Go home, Elena."Klaus said seriously.
"Klaus-I will deal with this. Go home, now."Klaus cut her off but she didn't move from her spot.
"If Stefan is willing to actually harm your twin what is stopping him from going after you next?"Klaus questioned Elena. Seeing the look in Klaus' eyes, Elena knew that he was actually serious and worried. Sighing, the youngest Immortal got up and quickly left the study and the house all together.
The next morning, Elena drove to the Gilbert Household, just in time to see Jeremy and Bonnie hugging before Alaric had to take him to the Airport. Elena quickly parked the car and got out.
"Jeremy."Elena called out to her Little Brother, who turned to see her walking towards him.
"You came."Jeremy said, surprised to see that his Oldest Sister had come to see him before he left.
"Of course."Elena said as she hugged him while looking at Bonnie and Emily who were watching them from the porch."I just want you to know that with everything that's happened, and what I said months back-I know."Jeremy said softly as he hugged her back.
"I know you didn't mean what you said and I've been a real A plus classic jerk to you, yet you still care about me."Jeremy continued."I'm sorry."Jeremy muttered in Elena's ear and her eyes widened as a single tear slid down her cheek.
"Have fun in Denver, ok?"Elena said as they let go of each other and she wiped away her tear.
"I will."Jeremy said and the trio of girls watched him get in the car and left with Alaric.
Elena turned to look at Emily and crossed her arms."I hope you're happy with this decision, because one way or another, it's gonna come back and bite you in the ass."
