The four, ninja, turtles were up on the rooftops being careful as they moved over them. It was early December, and there were already patches of ice on many surfaces, some hidden in shadows invisible and dangerous like ninja themselves. Tonight, snow hid a few too.

Of course, Mikey was purposefully landing on them. He then slid across like he was on a skateboard. A huge grin graced his face as he did so now. He let out a "Wheee!"

Raph turned a frown upon him. He let out a hiss. "Mikey! Will you keep it down?"

Don smiled as he ran by his crouching, grouchy brother. "Ah, let him have his fun, Raph!"

Crouching on the roof's edge, Leonardo turned his face to the left. "Shhhhh …" The others fell silent and looked the same direction, even Mikey.

Shouts were coming over the frigid air. They were about a block away maybe. Leo started toward them. The others followed.

Soon the four brothers were on the edge of a different rooftop peering over it. Beneath them was a four-door sedan. For some reason it was parked in an alleyway and surrounded by Purple Dragons. Some were merely hooting. Others were banging crowbars on its hood and trunk. Others were trying to pry the doors open with them.

Inside were many, many white, shopping bags, a grown woman clutching the steering wheel while screaming for them to "Please stop," and "Let us go," and two crying children in the backseats. All four turtles mouths dropped open. Then they clenched shut along with their fists.

Raph was down there before Leo could said anything to stop him. Leo then sighed and led the others down after him. Soon, the Dragons were turning away from the car and aiming their crowbars at them.

Leo took those between the car and the street. He made sweeping slashes and kicks. Amazingly, the gangsters moved right and left almost immediately. The tires of the car began squealing. The vehicles wheels spun, but it didn't move forward or backward. Leo jumped over it and took on those Raph had been working on. Understanding, Raph and Donnie put their shoulders to the front fender and pushed. Worried, Leo glanced through the front window to see if the woman was staring at him or Mikey. The latter was still loudly scolding the crowd of trouble-makers as he jumped around, spinning his nunchucks, and shouting "It's Christmas!" Actually, Christmas was still weeks away, but Leo understood the sentiment.

Meanwhile, through the windshield, Leo only saw bushy, blond hair covering the back of a head looking through the car's back window. Then he saw a few Purple Dragons making their way around the car and jumped over to stop them. He wanted the way clear as soon as she could make a break for it.

He slammed the dragon's moving toward the back of the vehicle with his right arm and flat of the sword it held. They smacked against the alley wall. Then, Leo glanced into the car's backseat to see if he'd been seen. Both of the two kids had their eyes scrunched closed. Their mouths open in twin screams even though they looked at least a year apart in age.

Suddenly, Leo caught sight of a purple dragon running around the opposite side of the car. The guy then dashed out of the alley and toward a fire hydrant. The man swung his crowbar at it.

Leo heard something between a clink and clunk sound followed by a gush of water. A puddle flooded our from under the car washing over the layer of snow and ice beneath it and toward his toes. Leo yelled, "Guys up!"

They all jumped and grabbed hold of nearby fire escapes. Meanwhile, the car's engine roared. The vehicle vroomed, zipped out of the alley, turned, and squealed away.

Raph scrambled along the fire-escaped rail to peer around the corner after it. "Wow! Look at her book it."

Donnie stared after him eyebrows raised. "Can you blame her?"

Mikey answered from where he was literally hanging by his legs now upside down. "Nope."

Leonardo broke in dryly. "Okay guys, let's head up and get out of here. We don't want to get wet."

Then a shout from below froze them. "Hey! You turtles chicken?"

Raph stared and growled back down before dropping. Leo shouted down after him. "Raph!" Then he slumped, sighed, and let go of the railing too. He heard Mikey and Donnie land with a squish in the layer of slush now coating the alley floor. Come to think of it, why was the ice and snow, so deep here?

As he wondered about this, his swords sung in the air. Raph was beating a staccato rhythm into human flesh nearby. Mickey's nunchucku whirled to his left. Donnie was swinging his bo into Purple Dragons' sides and tripping their legs on his right.

And then, Mikey girlie screamed from somewhere to Leo's left. Even Leo was thinking of making fun of him for it, when he felt a sharp pang start in the pad of his foot. It worked its way up his leg like lightning. As he gritted his teeth, he heard in front of him Raph's "Arrrrrrrrgggghhhh!" Then Donnie shouted to his right.

Leo opened his mouth. Instead of screaming, though, he managed to cry out, "Guys! Up!"

Mikey whined back from above him, sounding like a girl on the verge of weeping. "Way ahead of you!"

Soon, Leo looked around and saw they were all up on the fire escapes with him. Purple Dragons hooted below. "Not such hot stuff now are ya?!"

Leonardo glanced down as saw something metallic shine up from the ice below them along with several drops of red scattered in the slush. "We're leaving a trail!"

Then bullets flew around them as well as hoots. Leo shouted, "Roofs now!"

Ignoring the pain in his own foot, he forced himself to book it. Even after he'd reached the roof, he ran across it. From the clenched jaws of his brothers running on both his sides, he knew they were all fighting the same thing. They needed to escape their foes. Then they needed to clean and bandage their feet. After that, they needed to get under the ministrations and guidance of Master Splinter. But first they had to escape the Purple Dragons. Under the inner shouts of pain his foot was filling the inside of his head with, he still heard Purple Dragon calls and bullets behind them.

Adrenaline pumped through him. The pain began to fade. He became better able to ignore it. The presences of his brothers nearby, keeping pace with him, or almost, moved further into his consciousness. Oh no!

Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Mikey was limping badly. Leo grit his teeth and slid to a stop. "Go on!"

Raph stopped too and turned a dark glare on him. That and the hiss in his voice told Leo how much pain he was in too. "What?!"

"Go on! I'll hold them back."

Donnie turned to him now too. His right leg began to buckle as he did, though he caught and steadied himself. Leo glanced down and saw three distinct trails of red droplets leading to each of his brothers.

Then, he looked back up at them. Mikey was strangely silent just staring at him with strain in his face crouching like a frog. Leo turned to Donnie. "You have to get Mikey home. If worse comes to worse, you can always send up Master Splinter. But get Mikey home and his, your, and Raph's …"

"I aint' leavin ya behind Leo!"

"Fine then, stay with me!" He was getting frustrated. They were running out of time. "Just … Donnie, get Mikey out of here!"

Mikey finally hissed through gritted teeth barely. "Leo …"

"Mikey. Donnie. Go!"

He could here boots coming their way in the snow. He leapt out at where he'd been hiding behind the sheltered top of the stairs leading to this roof at the sound. As he leapt at his hunters, he snarled. "Harrrrrrghhhhh!"

He swiped his sword at a pair of faces with four very wide eyes between them. Raph came up beside him. As, his sword cut through a gloved hand carrying a crowbar, out of the corner of his eye he saw another crowbar go flying through the air. He heard turtle fists meeting leather jacket. Raph was pushing back a Purple Dragon jab by jab to his right. He was concerned, but so grateful. Then more human forms jumped the space between the building in front of them and the one they were on.

Now, he was fighting three purple dragons. He honestly forgot about his foot. He weaved his deadly dance keeping each attacker at bay. Now there were four around him.

Slash through the sleeve and up the arm of that one. Hear him shout. Cut through the hat and scalp of that one. Hear him curse. Cut open the thigh of that one. Not like they'd left him able to walk well …

LEO!

Raph! He looked that way. Three big dragons were pushing Raph back as he kept their weapons from touching him with his sai. More were jumping onto their roof in front of them. Turtle luck … might be the death of them tonight …

At least he hadn't seen Mikey and Donnie since he sent them away or heard them either. They were probably safe with Master Splinter by now. Right?

GONGALLA!

Another form in a trench coat, wearing a white hockey mask, and holding baseball bats in both hands, jumped into the mess. Then he started swinging. A wide circle of Purple Dragons opened up on the periphery of this whirling dervish. A few broke off from attacking Raph to go after the newcomer. Big mistake.

Raph pounded the other two into the cement roof beneath them. Leo took the opportunity to cut through any chain swung at him, Raph, or Casey Jones. He charged a bunch who'd just arrived. They backed away perhaps shocked to find the vigilante there too, and the odds thus changing.

Then, the sound of sirens came over all the sounds of fighting. Purple Dragons began to run away. Perhaps they were afraid of facing guns or perhaps they were afraid of facing prison sentences.

Leo took a moment to breathe. Ow! The pain came back full force. Casey turned to them both. He swept his mask up showing them high, pointy cheekbones, bushy, black hair, and really wide, blue eyes. "Guys! You're bleeding!"

Leo stared at the man a moment. Calm and relief and swelled up in him. "Casey …"

Casey turned. He pulled Raph up from where he was sitting on the roof and swung one of his arms under his friend's left one. Then Leo watched him come up to him too. Casey swept his left arm under his right. Then he felt the humans warm arm wrap around his shoulders. The guy's too-loud voice rang in his ears, but Leo smiled at it. "Come on guys! We gotta get you both home."

What do you think?

God Bless
