Chapter 4
Annabeth POV
I awoke with a start. I don't remember my dream much, only that I woke up with the feeling of falling. Sweat dripped down my face and my breathing was shaky. The first thing I noticed was loud thumping and muffled grunts coming from a distance. Percy. Poor guy barely slept, and when he did, it wasn't for long due to dreams. Actually, the last decent rest he got was in Damesen's little hut. I ripped off the blankets and slipped off the bed. Years of sleeping in unfamiliar areas had prepared me for waking up and being on the move immediately. It only took a few seconds to shake off my drowsiness. I tiptoed to the door of my room, only to find it locked. Seriously? That has to be a fire hazard. Well, I guess they don't want me to leave. Good luck. A quick glance at the lock told me it was a simple push-button lock. I took my dagger from my hidden strap on my thigh and poked the tip in the crack of the door frame. Selfishly I thought that my other dagger, the one Luke gave me, would work a lot better. It was thinner and would fit in the crack easier. Unfortunately, this one from camp would have to do. I pushed up, taking care not to actually break the door, and the door swung open.
I ran across the hall and did the same with Percy's door. I walked in slowly, and immediately flinched when my toes touched cold water. A large puddle of water covered the concrete floor. The sound coming from the bathroom told me that someone broke the sink. Ignoring my cold feet, I splashed towards the thrashing pile of blankets on the bed. Percy's face was smashed in his pillow, and half-strangled screams erupted from his throat. His fists were clenched, and his legs were banging on the wall, creating the thumping sound I had heard. Water from the floor was creeping up his bed, almost touching him.
"Percy!" I half-whispered, trying not to alert the nurses. "Percy wake up! I'm here, I'm here. We're safe. Percy wake up!"
Ugh. Sometimes I think Percy could pass as a son of Hypnos. I scooped some water off the floor and flung it on his head. His thrashing stopped, but he still wouldn't wake up. I straddled his back and poured some more water on him. Simultaneously, the tip of my dagger brushed against the small of Percy's back. Without warning, He whirled around, and before I knew it, Percy had me pinned against the wall, my hands behind my back with his arm against my throat. His hair looked like it barely survived a tornado, his chest heaved and he wheezed, his hot breath on my face. Worst of all was his eyes. Stormy green orbs. Bloodshot and unable to focus.
"Percy?" I whispered.
That seemed to snap him out of it. "Anna- oh gods, Annabeth." He gasped and released me. He sat on his bed and rubbed his face with shaking hands. I went to him and hugged him.
"Oh gods… did I hurt you? I am so sorry. I'm so sorry. Please tell me you're okay." He sobbed on my shoulder.
"Shhh… it's ok, you didn't do anything. I'm fine."
"I'm sorry... My Achilles spot." He gave a half-hearted chuckle, "I guess it's still a little sensitive. I'm so sor-"
"Stop." I cut him off. "Stop apologizing. I should have been more careful. But I'm fine. You, however, are not."
"I'm ok now. Just… you know. Stuff."
"You broke the sink."
"I what? Oh… oops." He blushed embarrassingly as he looked at the wet floor, and the hissing faucet in the bathroom. He waved his hand, and all the water rushed obediently into the bathtub. The hissing stopped, and even the water came off my feet and out of my shorts. Well that tickles.
"You're getting better at cleaning up your messes." I smirk at him.
"Like I said, lots of practice." He smiled and pulled me down on the bed with him.
"Perce, we can't. Rules, remember?"
He looked at the clock. "Only three –wait, no four- hours until sunrise anyway. What's the worse they can do to us anyway?" He laid the crumpled blanket over us, snuggled down and closed his eyes. I sighed. Why not? I was about to lay down too, when the door opened, sending bright light into my eyes.
"Is everything okay?" A nurse called. "What's going on in here?"
Percy groaned and murmured something along the lines of 'so close' and sat up. "I had a nightmare, and she came over to help me out. Everything's great!"
"Next time a nurse will come. Patients are supposed to stay in their rooms from 8 until 7. That's the rules. Any more violations and we will have to contact your parents." She said sternly.
Percy grinned mischievously, "Our parents will be happy to-"
"Yes ma'am." I said quickly, elbowing Percy to shut up, "I'll go back to my room now."
I gave Percy a peck on cheek and squeezed his hand. "See ya soon." I whispered. His eyes saddened, and a hint of his inner baby seal came out. I turned away before I could be affected and walked out the door. The nurse escorted me across the hall and made sure I went straight there. She then 'locked' the door behind me. I crawled back into bed and pulled the blanket up to my chin. I stared at the alarm clock until I fell back to sleep.
Author's Note:
Wow, this is the shortest chapter yet! However, I have things to do in real life and this seemed like a good cut-off point. Sorry it's so short! I am trying to aim for at least 1000 words per chapter. I think this chapter is like 940ish. Oh well!
Song of the Chapter
This chapter's song is a Percabeth song! It's "With you" by Jaime Grace. I like to think its like Annabeth singing, but whatever
Thanks for reading!
