Chapter 61

A Digital Christmas

It felt odd for Hera and Death to wait.

Back then, all they really had was the author and his personal floating villa. Now though, they were surrounded by his other creations in a house that their creator brought forth. Which was disguised as a hut for some reason.

"Another margherita please!" Death announced as Chaos's glance fell upon her. "What?"

The white mage didn't answer, choosing instead to move her hands about. "You do realize I can't understand sign language?"

Chaos scribbled something on her whiteboard and held it up for both 'goddesses' to see.

"Then learn." Hera responded and flipped Chaos off. A few seconds later, the doorbell rang and the white mage ran out. "Good riddance. At least she has that bitch to play with now.

"A rock then shot through the door and slammed into Hera's forehead. Afterwards, a girl in a kimono opened the door, showing all those inside the faded lotus tattoo that was totally not the result of some order experiment. Of course, Chaos was standing right beside her.

"If you have a problem with me, say it to my face." the girl remarked as she pulled her spear off her back.

Deathbringer X3!

One would think that after all the effort their master put to get them back, they would've learned some humility. But I guess that's not the case as the scythe heads shot forth to their target.

Gaia Blade!

The girl responded by surrounding her spear with earth and slammed it into the attack. Of course, the author walked in and grabbed Hera and Death.

"This isn't the last you'll see of us!" Hera screamed as she found herself getting dragged into a different room..

"Sure…" the girl answered and walked out, Chaos following right behind.

.

Cody's room was the smallest of the bedrooms, which didn't seem to really to upset the author that much.

"Did you have to do that?!" Hera shouted, only to catch a glimpse of a certain blonde haired boy. "What is he doing here?"

The author shot her a cautious glance, which was returned with a swing of the scythe. He answered back with a hug and turned his attention to Evil TK.

"Do you understand your future duties?" the author whispered.

"Loud and clear." TK answered and the two shook hands. "Though, can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"What's the deal with those two?" TK inquired and pointed towards Hera and Death.

"They were two of my stuffed animals who I brought to life to keep me company." Cody remarked and took a deep breath. "But we had a falling out and they left me. It took me a couple years and a whole lot of courage, but I succeeded somehow."

With that, TK made his exit and the author returned his attention to his assistants.

"Do you have to pick a fight with Sachiko every. flipping. time." he whispered and got a shrug from both girls. "If that's how it's going to be…"

He pulled both Hera and Death towards him and wrapped them up in a hug.

"No." Death responded and bit down into her master's arm, forcing him to let go. "I refuse to take part in any of this!"

She then stormed out, leaving Hera and Cody in the room.

"Figures." Hera whispered as the two broke away. "I'll go find her."

"Okay. I'll be mailing something

She took a deep breath and the two exited their home. Cody went to the right, his gaze focusing in on the nearby Dark Emporium. Hera on the other hand, went left and kept her sister

"Come back here!"

"No!"

Vine Entangle X3!

Ivy sprouted forth and grabbed hold of Death, forcing the former goddess to a standstill.

"So you're his bitch now?!" Death screamed and began to struggle against her bindings. "Do you have any fucking dignity for yourself!"

"Yes." Hera whispered and walked up to Death. "I'm willing to admit that I fucked up and chose to take the coward's way out."

Death's expression shifted to one of pity and disgust.

"Have you gone mad? Our former is still our enemy and always will be!" Death screamed as she broke free. "Why can't you get that through your thick skull?!"

Yet, Hera casually walked forwards.

"Maybe I am." she announced and grabbed hold of hold of Death. "But we're his 'family'. He created and went through all the trouble to get us back. Give it a rest."
Death tried to break away, but Hera gripped her tighter.

"Fine. I'll trust you on this for once." Death groaned and the two broke away. "But this is the only time."

With that, they made their way back to the author's cabin. It would be a bit before

.

On the far side of the dark blade's plantation, Sachiko and Chaos were sparring.

For Sachiko, it was business as usual. A routine training exercise to keep up her skills. But for Chaos. It was something else.

After what had happened in the dream world. The white mage had found herself within a familiar yet unfamiliar place.

Aero!

It felt odd to hear the name of the attack but not the words itself. The attack still happened but, it didn't quite have the punch that had been there before.

Chaos pulled her claymore back and swung it towards Sachiko's spear, but all the blade managed to hit was air.

'That's good enough for now.' Sachiko signed and watched her sparring partner shake her head. "There's something on your mind, isn't there?"

'Yeah.' Chaos signed back and slipped the claymore onto her back, sitting down right after. 'All around me, things are changing. Cody is growing up and soon, he'll leave again… and maybe never come back.'

Sachiko sat herself down and took a deep breath.

'I would think he would be more upfront about leaving than that.'

Chaos shook her head and began writing something on her whiteboard. Once she was done, she showed it to the geomancer.

"He has chosen a successor?" Sachiko whispered and took a deep breath. "Maybe he is just afraid something might happen that will put him out of commission?"

Chaos shook her head and gave her friend a glare. The geomancer took a deep breath and plopped a kiss on her cheek. Chaos body turned red and she pushed herself away.

"Take a chance. The future is uncertain." she continued and pull Chaos back in. "Who knows what it'll bring for us."

.

.

In a small cabin, Varia sat in silence.

"You're still out there, aren't you?" she whispered and took a deep breath, continuing the sharpening of her blades. "I've killed you once, I'll do it twice."

But who was she kidding, the only reason she had even managed to pull off such a feat was due to the idiot turning his back on her. The other kid had gotten caught in the crossfire, not that she had cared at the time.

Though, the circumstances were different now. No more was it just a handful of digidestined and digimon in play, fighting among each other. Now, there were a variety of individuals up against the equivalent of the final bosses of a videogame.

The sound of a door opening caught the sextape mage's attention, with her deciding to throw her gladius at the intruder.

"Oh my." Varia whispered as she took the intruder. "It's been awhile. Of course, I plan on keeping you alive… for my own personal amusement."

The intruder let out a sigh, as if they were admitting defeat. Not that they could be blamed for feeling that way, having awaited this fate for so long.

.

There were few things that the dark blades made a competition out of.

Decorating the tree was not one of them.

Each member had their own particular tree to decorate. Any riffraff or mischief would not be tolerated and would be punished by that particular member not getting dinner.

Of course, that didn't stop them from attempting to outdo each other. Which led right back into the previously mentioned rule. This year, they had all gone for fireworks as their main element. This went as well as one expected it to be.

"Why?" Vanessa remarked and took a deep breath. As a general rule, she preferred to keep the discipline to a minimum, but this was not one of those times. "What made you think that fireworks of all things, were a wonderful idea to put on something so flammable?"

She got no answer. Even then, the silence spoke more than enough.

.

For Victoria Arcana, christmas meant little for her.

Sure, it was the sort of thing that some people of this realm celebrated, but they already done something akin not that long ago. That, and none of the children were really behaving well enough to deserve it.

"Is something wrong, nya?" Kuro called out and Victoria took a deep breath.

"Just taking it all in." the black cat answered and closed her eyes. "Kind of crazy to Chouko back after all this time."

"I guess." Kuro remarked and wrapped her arms around Victoria.

"Hey!"

"One hug won't hurt you." Kuro continued and leaned in, getting pat from her friend. "Or are you afraid of it all falling apart again?"

Victoria didn't answer, choosing instead to let the hug continue on. Of course, neither party had really noticed that their digimon partners were watching them.

"Just kiss already!" LadyDevimon shouted

"Yeah!" Bastemon added, even if she didn't quite understand what they were encouraging.

Notes:

And there you have it! I hope you en-

What this? A sneak peek? I guess so.

Hello there, from the future.

You're probably wondering who I am and why the author isn't narrating this. To answer the former, I am Seraph. The latter on the other hand, is complicated. Basically, we zigged where we should've zagged. The future we got was not the one originally written, but it was what we chose for ourselves.

But for the moment, here's a peek of what I see on a daily basis.

"Just get to the point already, weird invisible man!" a voice announced as the camera shifted to the action. Currently, two groups were locked in battle, their arena a makeshift stage in a school.

"Light Chains."

Chains sprout forth from the floor, binding an unknown opponent.

A faerie weaves about the area, putting her purple butterfly wings to use. Currently, she is dressed in a greyish black dress with a jagged hem and a matching curved witch hat. A pair of black boots hung to her feet, not at all detracting from her bluish purple eyes or her short red hair that she was in the process of dying it purple. Of course, rounding out the look was the spear in her hands. Compared to the one used by the geomancer, the faerie had chosen one with a long wooden rod with part of a claymore being used as the blade itself.

"Hi." she whispered and took a deep breath. "I guess I can't seem to escape this fate. At least you could tell them my name."

This was followed up by a chuckle.

That's Claire, the 'spellcaster' of the group, which doesn't explain her job choice as a 'Performer'. Not

"Hey, at least it's better than the title you were trying to convince us to call you earlier." Claire whispered and charged forth, passing a bulky olive-skinned humanoid. Amid his yellow hair and orange eyes, was a breastplate and metal leggings. Of course, a the black cat symbol had been painted on the front for good luck, or to remind you that it's a digiconjurer story.

"I'll have to agree with Claire on this one." the armored guy remarked and let out a chuckle. "We can come up with a better one later."

That's Daniel, the group's tank. And by 'tank', I mean the poor goblin who takes all the bad stuff to appease his race's deity. And before you ask, no. It does not have anything to do with that one kid. I actually had to check with him on that, just to be sure.

To the right of Claire, was a much shorter grey-skinned humanoid. Her pink hair was at best a wig, just barely reaching her the middle of her back. A pair of matching orbs stared upon her surroundings, not at all comfortable in her lilac quigao. A pink rod with a large butterfly stone hung tightly at her side, ready to bring forth her next miracle. If she could aim properly, that is.

"I've been getting better." the gyroid corrected as it began raining cats in my office. Which would make it the third time this week. "Secret Move!"

For a brief second, the area went dark. When the natural light did return, the gyroid was now on the other side of the arena. A man stood behind her, dressed in a tux and dress pants. Tying it all together was the brimmed top hat along with the brown hair and black eyes. His weapon of choice was a cane for some reason.

That's Mira and Jake respectively. Of note, the former is you-know-who's granddaughter while the latter is the upteempth 'gentleman' character.

"Cry me a river, old guy." a voice announced as Claire reached her target, a white catgirl in a black ballroom gown. A pair of cerulean eyes stared towards her as a parasol was swung her way.

"Aero," Claire announced and her spear glowed light green, bring forth a gust of wind. "Omega!"

White light engulfed the faerie as power long thought of her reach seeped back in. It was a beautiful, especially having seen the full form before it was ripped away.

When that finally settled, all that remained was a white blob pulling along a little chest. Or in other words, a mimic.

"Aww…" Mira announced and ran over, picking the mimic up. "You did wonderful, Sprinkles."

Yes, her neko parents named her Sprinkles. It probably doesn't help that they're the rulers of a small island nation and they sent their one and only daughter as their diplomat… Who became a 'Turnak' of the group.

"In my defense, such a profession provides more power than the one those who birthed me offered." Sprinkles countered as she was handed over to Daniel.

Whatever. That just leaves that de-

Before I could finish, the sound of a large vehicle approaching filled the air as a tank crashed through the wall. And then out popped a reddish looking thing. No, scratch that. At best, it looked more like a humanoid of sorts, dressed in a uniform you would expect to see on a human. An army cap sat firmly on his head as a pair of black voids gazed over it all.

"That's the last time I'm trusting demon roads." the 'demon' muttered and gazed about the area. "Sorry about that. Here's something for your trouble."

He then flung what appeared to be a gemstone of some variety towards the teacher, only to have it hit her head and knock the poor lady over.

"Dammit, Sangran!" Jake screamed as he and the rest of the party made their way over to the tank. "And things were going so well too."

He gave a bow as he entered the vehicle.

Inside, it was far more roomy than its hardened appearance would suggest. Gotta love those demon craftsman and their abilities.

"Why thank you." Sangran remarked and did a quick headcount, following it up by starting the tank back up. "Now, let's get out of here."

With that, they headed off. Which is a just as good time to end this preview.

See you soon… Hopefully in 2018, maybe 2019.
