Chapter 67
Third time
They lay there, silent.
Of the six found, only two had actually woken up.
The first, a man dressed in strange robes, vanished into thin air the first moment he was out of sight. This wouldn't be a problem, if he hadn't robbed them of all their salt and left a note about it being 'for the fishes'.
The other person, was boy in his mid teens. He claimed that he needed to go help his friends save the world from the large, so the hospital let him go.
That just left the four kids.
At first, the doctors chose to just let them rest and wait for some change. When that seemed to bring no change in vitals or appearance, they attempted to wake up one of them. After a long series of discussions, hearings and a protest. It all came down to a coin flip.
Wake up.
A boy runs through a field of flowers. A little blue blob follows right behind, laughing along the way.
"What do you want to do now?" the creature inquires and the boy stops.
"I'm not sure." he answers and lets out a chuckle, only for the field to begin to shake about. "Stop that."
Wake up!
The field seemed to shake even more, the flower petals dropping from their stems in a violent fashion. They made their way towards the boy and his blob, seeking to tear him apart into a million pieces.
So the two made a run for it, just barely staying one step ahead of their pursuers. But it was nothing more than a fool's errand.
"No…" the boy screams as the shaking stopped. The flower petals return and things return to normal. Yet, everything feels slightly off. "Chibomon, when can I leave this place?"
But Chibomon does not answer. No, he chooses to just laugh at his master.
"Why would you want that?"
The boy lets out a deep breath.
"Because I can't stay here forever."
Nurse, his vitals are dropping.
Everything began to blur as the boy's partner seemed to grow.
"What good was that world anyhow?" Chibomon answers, still growing in size. "Your family, gone with the wind. Your friends, forgotten nearly all traces of you."
But the boy ignores it, choosing instead to turn around.
"Where are you going?"
The boy lets out a laugh, the blurriness seeming to spread even faster now.
"Home."
With that, he started to run. It didn't matter where. He just needed to find a place where the giant chibomon wouldn't follow him. His prayers were answered in the form of a cave. Though, it had blinding white light instead of the darkness that one would expect. But he didn't care at this point, choosing to run through.
.
The boy opens his eyes.
Currently, he finds himself laying in a hospital bed. It's not the most comfortable thing, but he didn't care at that point.
"He's awake." a nurse remarks, motioning for a doctor to come over. "Hi there. You've been out for a bit."
The boy stares back with a dazed expression.
"Do you know what year it is?"
The question seems to catch him off-guard, with his train of thought crashing to a halt.
"2003?"
The nurse seemed to be caught by surprise with his comment.
"No, it's 2007." the nurse calmly answers and lets her gaze focus on the three other beds. But just as quickly as it left, it returned to the boy.
"Do you have any family that we can contact?"
The boy shifts his gaze away from the woman, letting it stare off into space. He tries to remember someone, anyone in that moment. But try as he might, there wasn't anyone he could remember.
"I'm sorry." he whispers, only for the woman to shake her head.
"It's alright, sweety." the nurse explains and cracks a smile. "Do you at least remember your name?"
"Davis." the boy mumbles and took a deep breath, darkness flooding his vision for a brief second. Within that, he could see Chibomon in all his oversized glory.
The next couple hours are a complete blur, with a bunch of doctors doing a variety of tests upon him. Eventually, it came back to the nurse.
"Are you ready to go?"
The boy gives a nod and gets up from his bed. The nurse leads him out of the room and through the next handful of hallways, always making sure that he doesn't fall behind. Eventually, the two find themselves outside.
"This is it." the nurse remarks and takes a deep breath. "You can do whatever you want now."
The boy turns his attention to his guide.
"Can I ask you something?" he inquires.
"Sure."
"What's your name?"
At first, the nurse just stood there. It was entirely possible that she was debating her answer, as if would change something for both of them. Eventually, the nurse came to a conclusion.
"Jun."
The name seemed to make the boy perk up and he gave her a thumbs-up. After, the two went their separate ways.
Notes:
Finally did it. Whoo.
