Chapter 71
Bits and Bobs
Claire's Performer outfit & Mira's Magia outfit:
Claire stared into the mirror.
Normally, she wouldn't take the time to admire herself. Today was one of those special occasions.
"It'll be alright, mommy." Mira encouraged, holding up an outfit. "You got your outfit all sewn up, you just need to try it on."
The performer turned around and took in the outfit she had created. It consisted of a sleeveless lilac dress with a jagged hem, a pair of matching high heel boots and a slightly curved lilac witch hat.
"Fine. I'll at least give it a try." Claire remarked as Mira handed her the outfit. "Of course, mommy needs her privacy."
She then made a glance up towards the ceiling, mumbling something under her breath. Mira then left the room, deciding she would just hang around in the hall.
"Mr Seraph, can I ask you something?" Mira inquired as she focused on the roof of the hallway.
I guess.
"What are you currently wearing?"
Uh… no comment.
"Why?"
Because it's rude to ask someone you can't see what they're wearing.
"Oh." Mira whispered and turned her attention back to the door, which was now open. "Can I come in now?"
"Yes, Mira." Claire shouted back, watching the magia enter. "What do you think?"
In addition to the outfit, the performer had decided to add a faerie-shaped choker and fitted a black belt around her waist. Of course, she had to adjust the outfit so her wings and antenna could fit. A swordstaff made from her bastard sword stood beside her, having been made up to look like a witch's broom.
"It's wonderful!" Mira squealed as she ran over to Claire, clinging onto the performer.
Oh my. It appears that someone has fallen to the dark side.
"You're not helping, Seraph." Claire whispered and shook Mira off. "Do you want to try your outfit?"
Mira let out a sigh and roll her eyes.
"Do I have too?" the magia whined and watched Claire bend down and pat her head. "It looks kind of silly on me."
Yeah. What the fuck was your creator was even thinking?
Claire took a deep breath and sighed.
"Mira honey, I won't laugh." the performer whispered. "And I can help you change the outfit if you want."
"You would?" Mira answered.
Claire nodded and watched Mira perk up, seeming to act in such a way of a young girl than the teenager she was supposed to be modeled after. Not that it mattered in her book, having dealt with a variety of unique individuals before this.
A few minutes later, Mira was in her outfit. Which compared to her usual orange and blue hand-me-down dress, it left little to the imagination. The outfit consisted of a white corset-like top and a pink petal-shaped short skirt. A pair of matching high heels sat on her feet, while long light pink gloves hung to her arms. Finishing off her look, was the lotus hanging in her hair.
"Yeah. This could use some work." Claire remarked as they continued to stare into the mirror. "If anything, you need a longer skirt."
"Why, mommy?"
"Because you don't want people to see the parts of you that are private."
"Oh."
Mira gave the ceiling a quick glance, only for Claire to shake her head.
"Don't." she whispered, following it up with a deep breath. "I doubt the answer you get isn't the one you want."
Look at you, being such a wonderful mother in place of her actual one.
The performer rolled her eyes and resisted the urge to sigh.
"You're not helping this situation." she mumbled and made her way to the far side of the room. There, their civilian clothes hung on a moveable outfit rack while a sewing machine sat on a makeshift desk. Their materials sat on the floor, awaiting their chance to be picked up and put in some place where they could be better accessed. But I guess some habits are just passed from their creator to their creation.
"Shut up." Claire whispered as Mira switched back to her civilian outfit. She then handed the costume (minus the shoes) over, watching the performer get to work. Fabric and thread spun about, getting carved up and stitched back together in a flurry of motion.
"Is this better?" Claire asked and watched Mira take the redesigned outfit in. In place of the white corset and pink skirt combo, was a light pink qipao with purple trim that seemed to cover much more than her original outfit.
"Thank you, mommy!" Mira answered and switched into her outfit, pulling her wand out in the process. "Do you want to do some practice?"
"I guess." Claire responded and the two made their way to the practice area. "I won't hold back."
"Same here, mommy!" Mira announced, pulling out a purple wand with a large circled butterfly once she was in position.
Bunny Missiles!
Mira's wand glowed bright pink, only for a trio of round balls painted to look like bunnies to appear.
Fae Flare!
A white ball of light formed at the tip of Claire's swordstaff, only to get launched at the incoming missiles. The two sets of projectiles made their way towards each other, slamming into each other with enough force to cancel each other out.
Heart Flutter!
Performer's Step!
The two dashed forced, locking arms once they reached the center. Blow for blow they went, neither quite breaking the other's guard. If one didn't know better, they would've thought they were rivals attempting to kill each other.
Blade Throw!
Claire's released her grip on her weapon, throwing her weapon towards Mira. She watched her opponent duck under it and charge forward towards her. White light engulfed her rod, which she chose to aim right for Claire's groin.
Secret Move!
Mira swiped at her opponent, only to find that particular move unable to even work at the moment.
Thank god for that.
Mira made a quick glance up towards the ceiling and pondered Seraph's latest comment. While she could've asked mommy for an answer, it was sometimes just better to ask the source themselves.
"Care to explain, Mr Seraph?"
Before Seraph got a chance to answer, Claire cleared her throat.
"I think that is good enough for today." Claire added, only to watch Mira throw a tantrum.
"I want to know! I want to know!"
"You just had to make a comment, didn't you?"
Well excuse me for being quite ready to freak the fuck out.
Claire took a deep breath and whispered something into Mira's ear, only to get a very confused glance from the gyroid in return.
"I think that's enough for today." Claire explained and placed her hand on the camera, knocking it over.
Jake's Gentleman & Sangran's Commander Outfit/Skill testing:
Sangran was many things.
A mechanic, a commander and a leader.
But when it came to anything related to social skills, he was a fish out of water. Which was where Jake and to some extent, Seraph came handy.
"So what do you know about party etiquette?" Jake inquired, his focus currently on polishing his cane. "Outside of blowing everything up and being anti-social?"
"You need to dress up nice, extract information and potentially cause a scene." Sangran answered, feeling quite proud of himself afterwards.
Jake took a deep breath and looked his companion over.
"For the moment, let's start off with dressing nice." Jake explained and grabbed hold of Sangran's arm, pulling him into the nearby room. Unlike the garage they had just left, this room appeared to be a makeshift dressing room. The eastern and western walls were lined with a variety of costumes, while the northern wall had been converted to look like one of those old make-up stations with the bulbs that kinda looked like christmas lights with worn stools.
"Appearances are everything." Jake remarked and began circling Sangran with a tape measure. "Can you bring me your nicest outfit, please?"
Sangran gave a nod and made his way towards the back, returning with his officer uniform. The outfit had seen better days, with holes all about and dirt seeming to have invaded and won control of this garment.
Jake took a deep breath and waved his hand over the outfit, seeming to pull out any imperfection and stain out of the outfit. In exchange, he slipped some thread in while Sangran wasn't looking.
"How's that?" the gentleman remarked and watched Sangran admire his handiwork. The outfit in question looked good as new, as if a hundred demon tailors and seamtresses had worked on such a garment.
A quick costume change later, Sangran and Jake stared into the mirror. While both their outfits looked quite similar, Jake had chosen to go with more of a casual suit compared to Sangran's. Of course, Sangran had all sorts of demon war medals that Jake would eventually get around to asking him about. But for the moment, the two had more pressing matters to work through.
"What is the preferred greeting for this occasion?" Jake questioned as Sangran sat himself down in one of the chairs. A pink puff of smoke then appeared, revealing a much slender version of the demon. Of course, the uniform had shifted as well and partially showed off a pair of melons on the chest.
"Hi, sexy." Sangran answered and gave a wink, only to revert back to his original form. Jake shook his head and let out a sigh.
"Uh… What was that?" the gentleman inquired and got a laugh from Sangran.
"That's one of my motivational technique." the demon answered, only to get a confused glance from Jake. "I'm guessing that wasn't what you had in mind?"
Jake gave a nod and tapped the ground with his cane. While the commander would've prefered his friend to not beat around the bush, this would work for the time.
"Hello, I'm Sangran." the commander repeated as he attempted to pass himself off with some sense of confidence. "It's nice to meet you."
"Much better." Jake answered and took a deep breath. "I realize this sort of thing is not your forte and all, but keep up the good work."
Sangran's face glowed a bright shade pink, but the commander didn't seem to notice or care.
"Sp it's my turn then?" he suggested and got a sigh from Jake.
"I guess." Jake answered as Sangran perked up, running back into the garage. Jake followed right behind, joining Sangran in the tank after a quick body check.
As transportation went, 'Frank' was an interesting case. On one hand, it was considered a masterpiece of both demon technology and craftsmanship. But by the same token, it was subject to a variety of breakdowns and mechanical issues that meant frequent maintenance sessions for the duo.
"So what's it going to be today, commander?" Jake inquired as he strapped himself in.
"Target practice." Sangran answered, only to load a shell into the turret. "I'll start small, of course."
Something involving Alice and Elena.
Out of all the forces that it existed in the universe, it was said that love was one of the few that was indifferent to things such as time, stupidity or humor. Whether or not that's the case is beyond the point.
At this particular moment, we come upon a sleeping wyvern sleeping in what the royal neko family considered to be 'servant quarters'. Which in actuality, was just a large wardrobe. Yeah, I don't quite get it either. But that's beyond the point.
"Yes Alice, I'll rule with you as your queen." the creature murmurs. "Especially if it means I get to truly be by your side."
She carefully shifts to her side, making sure that she didn't destroy her 'bed'.
"We can still do that. It'll just come after we find her."
A knock pierces through the creature's enclosure, which is just enough to switch her back.
She took a deep breath, letting her eyes open up and grabs her uniform. In her case, it was a dark blue sundress with a white apron over it. The corsair slips it on, making sure that the attached tail was in the right place. Next came a white frilly headband with a pair of cat ears attached. While sure, they matched her hair, the accessory seemed to get her mocked the most by her co-workers. And that was without talking about her choice of footwear, a pair of sandals of all things. Most of the other maids wore the provided black mary janes and the long white socks. But not Elena. No, she seemed to move best when her feet were encased in those stupid black shoes or those long white socks. This too also brought the general round of ridicule, but she just ignored it.
All that was left to do, was to brush her puce-colored hair and make sure her amber eyes were at their brightest state. The neko never wanted their maids to be looking less than their greatest.
"What am I forgetting?" Elena thought, her gazing falling to a silver object in the storage part of her room. It was a ring, slightly gnarled by design. The corsair had been given it by a friend. No, they were far more than that. Hopefully, they would get a chance to start the next chapter of their life. But for now, Elena slipped it onto her ring finger and pushed the door open. On the other side, a woman waited. Unlike her, she was dressed in a red dress with matching boots. The rest of the uniform hung over her body, while a pair of revolver hung at the woman's waist.
Outside, she was treated to the usual marble walls and quartz floors that made up this place. The other servant quarters lined the walls of this octagonal building, a far cry from her old home. She closed the doors back up, only to find someone had left a note for her.
Miss Elena,
You have been appointed as one of two servants to Princess Sprinkles.
The assignment will begin tomorrow, so take the time to meet your partner and get to know her.
We have deducted a 'miniscule' portion of your upcoming payment to get a reservations at one of the finer restaurants in the kingdom. Along with that, said money will also be going to your meal. I do hope you enjoy your day.
For some reason, the head maid had not signed off on this note. Not that she knew
But, Elena lifted it up, finding the reservation papers attached. They were for some hamburger joint she had never heard of before. But a free meal was a free meal. She gave the slip one more glance and pulled her messenger bag out of the closet.
The corsair steps through the doorway and takes the steps down two at a time. To some extent, it felt like she was about to go on a date of sorts, something that she had not gone on in forever. In a way, it reminded the corsair of 'her'.
At the bottom of the stairs, she closes her eyes and tries to remember. It had been a tall woman, a brunette with chocolate eyes. She was the sort of gal who forced others to break through her stoic facade if they wished to know her.
Elena was one of the few who actually managed to do just that. No, scratch that. She managed to go farther than that, somehow connecting with someone in such a way that neither had thought possible. However, when they were just about to reach the end of their journey, they were whisked down here.
When she awoke, she had found herself in her new life here. Her friend was somewhere else, wherever that could be.
Yet as her eyes opened and she continued down the stairs, anticipation filling up inside her. Maybe, just maybe this would be her lucky day.
The streets surrounding Neko Castle were quite straightforward to traverse, especially for someone partially acquainted in them.
Elena took a left, watching the burger joint come into view. But when it did, something else came into view. Her walk turns into a run, her gaze focusing on what appears to be a maid from the castle. Unlike her though, she was dressed in a red dress with a matching pair of boots. A pair of revolvers hang at her side, while a silver ring with a butterfly on it hangs on her ring finger. The corsair's heart skips a beat and her body shifts, taking on the appearance of a purple wyvern.
"You really should work on your surprises." the girl remarked and shook her head, making her way over to Elena. "Oh well."
She reached the corsair and took a deep breath, watching her switch back.
"Alice!" Elena announced and wrapped her arms around her. "It's been to-"
Before she could finish that sentence, Alice leaned in for a kiss. Elena did the same, the first in a year.
"Is that better?" Alice inquired, cracking a smile afterward.
"Yeah."
The couple made their way back to the hamburger joint and handed in their reservations. They were seated in the bar, which neither quite had much experience in.
"I kind of expected them to put us in a booth." Elena whispered as they waited for their server. "Yeah." Alice answered back and took a deep breath, looking over the menu. "Appetizer to start?"
"Sure."
'If you don't mind me asking, could you tell the readers and I how you two got together?'
Both girls took a deep breath, giving each other a quick glance. While I suspect they would prefer that
"I'll start." Elena remarked as their server, a woman dressed quite plainly, approached.
"I only did that once." Alice remarked as the server came back, bringing with her what appeared to be a tea and a coffee respectively. "And afterwards, we both agreed to never do that again."
"Right…"
They had finished their drinks by this point, with their server coming back with not just refills but also a plate of mozzarella sticks.
Of course, Elena couldn't resist and dug right in.
"Fine. Just save some for me." Alice remark and made a quick glance towards their server. While she couldn't quite place it, she had felt that she had seen her before. But where exactly felt like a haze in her mind, a void that could be filled. "I guess I'll go next then."
Notes:
While I'm a little sad that Azure Shift worked out, I doubted this will be the last we'll hear from them. ;)
