The Boy and The Robot

Here's Chapter 8, I'm trying to form a solid plot and get all the characters in the right place, I've really missed not having BMO in the story as i think BMO is one of the best characters in adventure time. Although BMO is officially sexless and it is hinted that he may be a boy I've decided to make him a girl. I have explained a little how she became more girl like but I just think it works better this way with her personality. Sorry if anyone disagrees.

On the way back to the Ice Kingdom the next day the group decided to stop at the tree house for lunch, Phoebe immediately went in and put the kettle on while Finn showed his fellow human's around the home. It had been destroyed and rebuilt many times over the years so when Jake and Finn had got time off they decided to try and build the house up to be stronger adding more rooms and with a little help from their friends they had even added a basement underneath the tree house. Finn had turned this into a training room where they could store all their weapons and treasures from their adventures.

"Finn you're home!" screamed the little MO as it ran up to the human and hugged him. "I missed you Finn" BMO continued. Over the years BMO had visited the MO factory and Moe had upgraded BMO's systems allowing the little robot to do more than be a games console. The upgrades had also given BMO a bigger awareness of Finn and Jake's lives and their coming and goings. This meant that when they left they would tell BMO how long they were going for so she didn't worry. BMO gained a lot of functions from the upgrades and one of these was deciding that it wanted to be considered a girl although the actual description of this choice was "a football playing, detective, skateboarding, and ninja tom-girl".

"Hey BMO I'm sorry I've been away for a little while but I had business to deal with and I have so much to tell you" Finn replied hugging the little MO.

"It's okay Finn, but you should call Jake he was worrying too when you didn't come home and-"It was around this time that BMO noticed Phoebe in the kitchen playing with some of the appliances.

"FIERY DEMON! What are you doing here?" she cried at turning her face into a :( emotion. BMO had always been overprotective of Finn but when FP and he had broken up BMO worried about Finn a lot as it had broken his heart.

"BMO, what the junk?" Finn yelled back at the MO clearly annoyed that BMO had insulted his girlfriend. He was about to tell BMO off when Phoebe put her hand on his shoulder and beckoned that she wanted to talk.

"BMO…" Phoebe started to say as she got on her knees to address the robot. "I know you're probably very mad at me for what happened with me and Finn but we've put the past behind us and we're very happy now. I Love Finn and I regret what happened but it let us grow up to who we are now and I just hope you will let me make it up to Finn."

"And will you leave him again?" BMO asked.

"No, I won't BMO I will protect and love him with all my heart, I don't even burn him anymore and I can control myself now." As she finished she smiled and hugged the MO to show that she didn't burn people anymore.

"BMO apologies for calling you a demon and yyyyyeeeyyyyyy Finn happy"

The other humans came up stairs and met the little MO, whether it was because of his programming to find a young boy and look after him or because they were both childish Lumen and BMO got on really well and BMO took him to meet NEPTR who was outside in the garden. Betty and Phoebe sat down and had tea while chatting while Finn went and restocked his red bag. "It seems like ages since I last did this here… it's like the whole world has changed" Finn smiled as he restocked his Cyclops tear's, he had a feeling that this may be very useful for them given how often he had to use them recently.

After everyone was ready the group decided to carry on to the Ice Kingdom. Phoebe and Finn started to fly together ahead of the others holding hands, Betty was sitting on Lumen's back as he flew since she didn't have her flying carpet and BMO was poking out of his bag, BMO didn't want to be left alone with NEPTR so tagged along with the group.

It didn't take them too long to get to the Ice Kingdom but on seeing how different it was the group decided to walk into the kingdom. They walked through the snow and followed the newly created path to the kingdom. The Kingdom was now so different it seemed like a completely different place. With the large decorative walls that spanned the kingdoms edge and the draw bridge to the kingdom circled by a little moat of freezing water. The group took in all the changes as they crossed the bridge, once inside the walls they saw the beautifully decorated Ice castle as well as the many houses and homes. The streets were full of penguins and snow people (these had been in Ooo for a while but the Ice King had banished them to the borders of the Ice Kingdom) going about their daily business in peace.

They were confused by the way they were treated when they got into the kingdom, given that most of their group were royalty it was still an odd sight to see all the people of a different kingdom bowing to them. They reached the castle a little while after still baffled by the weird behavior of the kingdom of Ice, they had passed a lot of Ice sculptures on their way there and had been surprised also to see ones of both Finn and Lumen. As they reached the entrance to the castle they heard a very familiar sound.

"Wenk… Wenk Wenk"

They looked down to see a little penguin who was wearing a waist coat. This seemed to be the only one wearing clothes and it took Finn no time at all to realise who this was.

"Hello Gunther can you take us to where daddy is?" He asked the penguin. Gunther began to walk away leading the group through the castle, it was as amazing inside as outside. Simon has surely been busy rebuilding his kingdom. They walked into what was a throne room to see Simon decorating some tables with Ice roses. He turned to see the group and face immediately went into a giant grin. He ran over to Betty and began to hug her; she was stunned and after a little returned his hug. The two stayed like this while all the group were awing and smiling at the interaction before a confused BMO popped her head out and said "Who's the dude wearing Ice King's crown". Finn quickly explained that Ice King was Simon and now Simon was back.

Simon and Betty pulled away from their hug and Simon pulled something from his pocket. It was a small ring. Betty gasped when she saw it.

"You have it? I thought I'd lost it but you have it?" she exclaimed.

"I picked it up after you disappeared through the portal to the future, no matter how insane I went I always held it close. I found it shortly after I regained my mind". With that Simon held out his hand to receive Betty's and when she had given him her hand he slid the ring on her fingers and smiled at her.

"Oh Simon" she began to choke up as tears filled her eyes.

"Betty I Love you" Simon said once again drawing his fiancé in for a hug.

"I Love you too Simon" She just carried on crying in his arms. She had been strong for so long, she had done so much to get her fiancé back and finally… here they were.

"Betty… I have something else to give you" he let go of their embrace before going over to one of the two thrones that were sat at the head of the room. He came back holding a beautiful golden tiara decorated with gems very similar to the ones in his crown.

"The ring I gave you… I once gave it to you to ask you to be my wife, this tiara… with this I ask you to be my queen." He asked with an obvious hint of nervousness to his voice.

"Simon…" was all she could say. Simon had been preparing for this moment and worrying about it a lot so he thought she hadn't said yes yet because she didn't want to be his queen.

"I'm sorry Betty it was a stupid idea… I should never ha-"

"Simon… Si… don't be silly I think it's a lovely idea but there's one problem."

"What is it Betty? What's the problem?"

"I'm no queen Simon, I'm your princess"

"Oh yes how foolish of me" Simon chuckled to himself.

"And you're my prince"

"Yes, I think it's time I give up the title of Ice King, I think Ice Prince does have a ring to it and you can be my-"

"Ice Princess" Betty said finishing her fiancé's sentence. She took the tiara from his hand and placed it on her head. The moment she let it fall down a wind filled the room and snow started to cloak around Betty. Her hair turned to a white that mirrored Simon's and her skin changed to light blue. Her clothes changed and instead of her turtleneck she now donned a beautiful dark blue dress decorated with light blue snowflakes. The transformation was almost instant but seemed to last for a long time.

The group stared as Betty became the Ice Princess. She looked down at herself and smiled, she hugged her Prince and the two began to cry with happiness. Phoebe wrapped her hand around Finn's and smiled at him deeply. Lumen too was smiling as BMO sat on his shoulder with a :') face on her screen. It truly was a magical moment for the two former humans.

The group decided to stay for dinner to celebrate the couples reunion, the food consisted of Ice cream in as many flavors as you can imagine. BMO shoved as much to her face as she could only ending up getting sticky buttons so Lumen had to take her outside so she could clean up a little. Finn and Phoebe fed each other the different Ice creams, Finn enjoyed the look on her face every time she put a spoonful in her mouth, it obviously immediately melted but she loved the feeling and taste as it ran down her throat. Simon and Betty were catching up on all of her adventures and he explained his visit from Marceline.

"So she's sort of like your adopted daughter?"

"Yes I guess you could say that aha"

"Well I can't wait to meet her Simon"

"I think you're going to have to get in line for that" he chuckled to himself.

Simon lent into Betty and explained the story of Marcy and Lumen's meeting, it finally clicked who he had meant saved him from the wolves the first time. He explained that after Marceline had turned up to the castle following the phone call the two had a reunion and caught up. Marceline told him everything that had happened in the hundreds of years he'd been an insane wizard for. She told him about Ash the boyfriend who mistreated her and about how she had met Finn and it had been a turning point for her. She told Simon about how she found his notes while one day when the Ice King was around her house and she played the song they had recorded together. She had ended up crying herself to sleep so he had carried her to bed and tucked her in next to her Hambo.

"Looks like we both adopted some lost souls aha" she chuckled back to him.

"Whatever do you mean Betty?" Simon quizzed back.

Betty went on to explain about how she had met Lumen, about her falling from the sky heading into a burning river (his face flooded with concern and relief for her safety) and how she had cooked for them both and tucked him in and then protected him from the wolves.

"That boy does seem to be very popular with the wolves doesn't he?"

Betty laughed at Simon's joke before agreeing to his remark.

"I think I might remind him of his mother… If what you said is true that he's missing he's memory too then it might explain why."

"I think it's sweet of you my princess and he saved me and seems like a sweet enough boy. I think it's about time we point him in Marceline's direction, don't you agree."

"I do" was all she said back as the pair looked across the room at the happy couple sharing their Ice cream and at Lumen who was finishing off drying BMO after clearing the sticky dessert off of her.

Marceline was at her house in the cave, she had decided to tidy up and make the place a bit more presentable. After her night at Simon's she sort of felt she had too, he had promised to come visit her sometime soon and it wasn't like with Finn who would just adjust to anything she wanted to make Simon proud and wanted to make the house welcoming.

She had called in a few of the decorators from the Nightosphere that her dad used for the palace, they weren't very good with home improvements but they managed to clean up the cave a little bit making it a bit less dingy and even put some lamps around which is Marcy's opinion rocked. She then got about redecorating the inside, she had replaced the solid, hard sofa she had in before with a plush comfortable one, had redone the walls and got in a new carpet. It didn't take much as she usually liked to keep the house clean anyway but she stocked up on food that wasn't just red either. She had to admit she liked the house better this way just never had enough reason to decorate it.

"I think Simon will like it" She said to herself smiling. She had wanted to show him that she had really done okay; she could see the guilt in his face when she had spilled the beans on the last few centuries, she almost had wanted to stop and lie about it but she couldn't lie to him. Not to Simon.

She decided to try and write a new song to show her new-found happiness,

~A new smile drawn on my face,
A new look for my little place,
A new hope for all my years,
With no more pain and no more fears,

Simon's back and he fixed my heart,
It's like he was here from the very start,
It's like all those years were just a dream,
I'm so happy I could just scream and scream,

He brought my Hambo and gave me a home,
He held me close and said I'm no longer alone,
He made me smile and he made me laugh,
He's my new light and I'll follow that path,

There's someone out there who made it true,
I just want you here so I can say thank you,
You gave me my Simon and my Hambo too,
I need you here so I can say thank you,

…thank you…~

She couldn't help but smile at the end of that song, it had been so long since she was able to sing a happy song and generally mean it. If only Bonnie would come back and be her friend she could truly be happy. This person, Lumen, he had performed a lot of miracles in her life so far maybe when she met him she could get him to see if he could fix Bonnie too.

"Kill you? You want him to kill you?" Leaden asked the dead king confused.

"Yes I need him to kill me what about that confuses you vermin?" The Lich spat out in disgust. It had been a long time since he kept company of those who lived. He was still unsure why he had bothered to kidnap this old fool.

"Well why? And Why him? You're not exactly Mr Popular around here I'm sure anyone else would gladly accept your death especially after you killed Billy the Hero." Leaden replied.

"No it has to be the human of which I speak of, his life holds value from the way he was brought into this world you cannot fight life with life which is why I have tried to rival the greater evil with death. I have failed and now I need him to kill me. Once he kills me all of my power will fade from this corpse and the sources that remain of mine in Ooo, he will have all of my power but instead of the incomplete necromancy I possess he shall be granted a power greater than any before. Even I can't predict what his power will become but it is the most I can do to preserve the last world." The Lich tried to explain to the vermin; clearly he had limited brains if he had to question everything the dark king said.

"So you want to give him power to help fight this evil? And he has to achieve it through killing you… I think I understand." Leaden paused for a little while in the silence then asked a question he'd been meaning to ask for a while.

"What's on this last world that's so important to you?"

This obviously hit a nerve with the Lich as he once again grabbed Leaden and pinned him to the wall with his bony arms.

"DO NOT ASK OF THAT WHICH DOES NOT CONCERN YOU…" The Lich just dropped him after, Leaden thought that this time it wasn't pure rage that the Lich had acted in but despair.

"If it involves my Prince then it does concern me Lich King, You clearly want my help and if you do I want honesty from you. What is it you're protecting?"

The Lich sighed to himself, this is why he didn't keep company of the living or at least those still with working jaws.

"This land we are in is called Ooo; it is part of a collection of 26 versions of the universe that exist in creation. We are currently in the 15th world, the world I came from was the 2nd world, let's stick with the theme and call it Bbb (pronounced Bee), it was one of the first to be destroyed-"

"Wouldn't the first world to be destroyed be the 1st world?" Interrupted Leaden.

"SILENCE… No as the worlds are not confined to an order, the first world is the last to be destroyed completing the cycle of creation and destruction, the last world is called Aaa… and while I, the cursed fire and the insane spirit that resides in the crown escaped here a few others escaped to that world. Our job here was to destroy everything so that they wouldn't have to perish. They know not of our plight but share the same feelings as us, their counterparts."

"Wait so this thing your protecting is-"

"Yes… My queen, the Lich Queen… from what I have gathered all of us entities existed in pairs and so there is a cursed fire and spirit living in that world too. What makes your prince so special is that he only exists in this world."

"So he's unique which is why you want him to wield your power? And is your queen creepy like you" Leaden shuddered at the thought of a female Lich.

"Oh yes she is marvelous, a force of great evil and destruction as evil to the core as the day we met when she tried to suck the life out of me and devour my soul well... before she realised I didn't have one."

"Erm… Delightful… I meant is she trying to turn the world to nothing?"

"Unfortunately for Aaa yes she is she entered that world with the same desires I had when I entered this, she however had her mind wiped of the greater evil by my hand, I didn't want her to suffer the fear I had felt or the loss of me. She will no doubt have been defeated just like I was and reduced to this."

Lumen was confused by this why would the Queen had been defeated too.

"Lich King, why would she have been defeated too?"

"Aaa is an alternative Ooo, the worlds are sometimes very similar other times very different. These two were the most similar remarkably with the only difference being the gender of the inhabitants."

"Wait so I exist on this other world just as an old lady?"

"Yes vermin I just said that did I not?"

"Whoa… how strange."

"Yes though it matters not vermin, what matters now is how we are going to get to and find your prince. I no longer have the strength to walk in this body and I can't force myself into any others even that snail."

Leaden thought to himself "If I do nothing to help this creep then Lumen will die… I have to do something". The two sat there for hours and Leaden tried to come up with a solution to their problem. How could they get the Lich to Lumen and also get Lumen to do what needed to be done to save Ooo and Aaa. Suddenly it hit the shade.

"Lich"

"Yes vermin?"

"Possess me."

Overcoat on.

Bag packed and on.

Powers check and awesome.

Lumen was ready for the visit to the mysterious girls house, he felt rather foolish doing this little check list getting ready but BMO had insisted he do it, apparently the little MO had been getting Jake and Finn to do it after the two kept leaving unprepared for their adventures which is why Finn was always so prepared for the trip ahead.
Finn and Phoebe had decided to head to the Candy Kingdom to update Jake and Princess Bubblegum on everything that had happened.
Simon and Betty were going to be staying at the Ice Kingdom, Betty had already taken Gunther dress shopping and on a tour of the kingdom (she also wanted to go to the far north and ask the Ice humanoid's that she had met there if they would also like to move to the kingdom, she had met them on her first year here and seemed nice enough). Simon had started planning their wedding and was busy working in his labs… he said something about a new flavor of Ice cream based on memory and then was off.
So Lumen and BMO would be going to the mysterious girls home alone. Lumen found himself double checking his hair in the mirror (Ice) and smiling he had waited so long for this but he really wished someone would tell him her name.

"Lumen, are you ready" cried out the little MO from the other room.

"Yes BMO, come here and we can get going." The Prince swung his bag on his back ready to get going to, he was in high spirits and excited to get going. He heard the door go and looked down to see the MO only to find no-one there.

"BMO? Are you there?" Silence.

"BMO" he called out again.

"BMO Chop" the little MO cried out as she dropped down from the ceiling and jabbed the Prince lightly in the neck, BMO then slid down onto the Princes bag and sat in the little pouch that Betty had added for the MO to sit in.

"If this was a real attack, you would be dead" Lumen heard from the voice on his back.

"I'm grateful in that case that you chose to spare me BMO" the prince laughed enjoying the robots childish nature.

"Are you ready to get going to… what was her name again BMO?"

"No Dusky (this is BMO's nickname for Lumen… well it's basically his surname with y added to it) You are not allowed to know her name till you ask yourself, Finn told you that do you not remember" BMO stated cheerfully getting into her little pouch.

"Oh yes I forgot sorry BMO but are you ready anyway?" Lumen sighed, he had hoped the MO would forget her and Finn's little talk.

"Yes Dusky I'm game" chuckling at her own little pun.

The Prince had already said his goodbyes to his friends and set off flying out of the window. Once they were in the air he felt BMO climb out of her pouch and plonk herself onto his back. The prince smiled, BMO had been the only person Lumen could be a kid around, he had literally been born into this world almost an adult, he never had memories of being a kid and it took a lot during the first year and being with Leaden Lumen got to see a lot of different things and Leaden on their days off would take Lumen into the kingdom to see all sorts, the children of the city use to love when the Prince came down as he'd play with them and if they got into trouble for being too loud the Prince would apologise and the adults would just laugh so the kids got off the hook. The adults liked the prince's childishness, he was responsible when he had to be and was a good leader but he always had time for the children of the kingdom and he knew all of them by name. He also loved visiting their various stores. Leaden was always coming down from the palace to find different trinkets and objects to show their prince; the most memorable event was the day Lumen learn to fly.

Leaden had brought up a flying carpet that the one of the wares dealers in the kingdom had acquired from wizard city. Leaden had told the prince that he'd get him flying lessons on it but the Prince couldn't wait so as soon as Lumen had left the room he'd snuck into the store room and taken the carpet out. He was soon soaring around the palace on the carpet and when he saw Leaden yelling from the window he decided to try to show him and trick, he tried to do a loop-the-loop in mid-air but didn't go fast enough and started to fall off. Leaden had instantly grabbed the tapestry, torn it down and tied it to the wall and jumped out to try and catch the Prince. He ended up hanging from the palace looking around the ground for the Prince thinking he had failed him before looking up and saw the prince whooshing around the sky with his new-found ability to fly. The shade-man could only smile at his little prince with a face full of joy; he wasn't sure whether he was feeling lightheaded with sentimental joy or the blood beginning to rush to his head. Lumen had noticed him about 10 minutes later and thought it'd be fun to ask "How's it hanging".

As they flew towards a little cave Lumen remembered the times he had spent with Leaden in his kingdom, Lumen offered wondered why Leaden had been so much of a father to him. Was it guilt? Or was he just like that with him. Whatever the reason Lumen didn't think he could manage that well without the aged shade and just smiled at the memories.

Soon in the cave they came up to a little house. The cave was more lit and nicer looking than it appeared on the outside. Different coloured lamps hung down from the ceiling, it looked like on one side of the cave there was a stage and place for people to stand and dance and on the other a small basketball court. These all seemed to be new features to the cave by the fact no footprints littered the floor.

"BMO are you sure your friend lives here? In a cave?"

"Yes BMO is sure that she lives here although I don't know if she is okay…."

"What makes you say that BMO?"

"Well she would never decorate that's not like Marceline".

"Marceline? That's her name BMO Marceline?"

"Oh no BMO let slip the name" BMO's face lit up with an :O expression.

"Marceline" Lumen said to himself zoning out from the MO's cries as it told itself off for saying her name. He thought back to that moment in the grasslands. The name made so much sense, such a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. He remembered her red tinted eyes and her lovely grey skin. "Marceline"…

While Lumen was caught up with the memory a certain Vampire Queen heard BMO's crying and decided to see who was at the door. She opened it to see a familiar person floating around mid-air hugging BMO as she hugged the person crying with a :'( expression on her face. "What the junk?".

I really have build up this Marceline - Lumen meeting :) I can't wait to write the next chapter. Just an update on characters and locations

I wasn't sure about including Aaa and the Gender swap universe but I've decided i will as i wanna explore the difference in the two worlds. Lumen made a bigger impact than they all realised. His memories of the first year will play a big part in what happened.
