A Place in the Sun

Hereeee's Chapter 9, It's heavily based around Lumen and Marceline meeting with only a very small section to plot development. We get to see more of his powers and know a bit more about Marcy's home improvements. Just as a note, All Characters, other than OC's, belong to Cartoon Network and Pendleton Ward. Adventure Time is their creation :)

Marceline was floating around her home thinking about the newest improvements she'd made to her cave. She'd added a stage so she and Simon could perform when they wanted to and it would be a little bit of fun. She also added a basketball court; it gave her more reason to invite Finn over to see her new house. She had finally finished and decided to have a little lay down on the sofa.

Marcy had been trying to list reasons for this sudden change to her house.

"Simon… I want to make him proud of me."

"Finn… I want to give him more reasons to hang around with me."

"Bonnie… I want to show you I can change if you are willing…"

But one more reason stayed… she wanted to be able to bring this light guy who had fixed everything so far. Simon had given him praise and that usually means you are something special. He was hanging around with Finn and Finn never hung around with a bad crowd. According to what Simon had said this guy had even made PB step out of her lab when they first met recalling the funny story of Finn's clumsy meeting that Simon had shared. "He has to visit me… I'm a Queen after all…" Marceline told herself. She didn't know why she was getting so bent up inside about this dude. She hadn't even met him and didn't even know what he looked like but the vampire couldn't help but imagine him. She pictured that guy she met on the hill "wolf bait" she had called him. He seemed cute, she was gonna play around with him a bit but wanted to get home to get ready for her evening with Bonnie. He seemed cute though so she wouldn't mind this mysterious prince looking like her wolf bait guy. She went through most of the day imagining her prince till she dozed off.

Suddenly Marceline heard a familiar crying sound from outside, one she hadn't heard since a little voice had called her on the phone telling her that Finn had 'cut off his beauty'. She raced to the door to see someone holding BMO tight in their arms as the little robot cried. She couldn't see Finn or Jake about and this confused her. "What the junk?"

"BMO never leaves the tree house unless she's with one of the boys… this jerk must of robot-napped her. He came to the wrong cave" Marcy went invisible, quickly snatched the little MO and put her indoors. BMO was too busy crying to notice and the robot-napper was weirdly floating and didn't seem to notice either. She drew her fist back and bonked him in the face. By this point Marcy had noticed this was a guy with mostly white hair and a black streak to his hair. He sort of dressed like wolf bait but that cutie had black hair. The guy immediately went into defensive position materializing a sword in each hand, one was black and wrapped around his wrist and the end, the other was completely white and had a few ribbons dangling off. They looked completely contrasting but seemed to work in this person's hand. He looked around the cave for his unknown assailant but couldn't find her.

"Invisibilityyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" she reminded herself at first confused by the fact he hadn't returned her hit.

She flew above him and materialized her bass axe above him (a little trick she learnt to stop her dad keep taking her bass from her every time he didn't get his own way). Marceline was ready to finish it all in one blow, she was the kick ass ask questions later kind of gal. She brought her axe down on him with all the force her demonic vampire body could manage only for it to make a shuddering echo throughout the whole of the cave.

"What the junk?" she said aloud turning visible again, he hadn't gone poof and hadn't gone invisible it was as if he had turned into the shadows on the floor itself. She looked down and noticed that her shadow had two little white eyes staring where hers would be and she leapt back in surprise. The robot-napper had a few tricks it seemed. He rematerialized from the shadows and spoke to her the first time. She had gone back invisible so he hadn't realised what she looked like or where she was.

"I don't know who you are or why you're intruding on this ladies domain but if you do not return my friend I will ensure that you are met by the full force of my blades. I shall wipe the light from your eyes and cast you into eternal shadows. Do not make me do something we'd both regret." The person stated in a voice that appeared to have its own echo.

"HIS FRIEND" Marcy thought. "You can't just nab something and make it yours" the vampire queen was furious, aside from the very hot threat this dude had just delivered to her, he had done nothing but anger her. Who did he think he was?

"Found you" came a whisper behind her. Marcy immediately turned in her small bat form and flew away dodging his blades as they swung furiously at her.

"The light is not your friend my dear, you took away a friend of mine and you cannot hide from me. I am the light and I am the shadows. You may be a demon but the dark is also no longer a friend of yours. If you do not already… fear me… now give me back my FRIEND". The voice yelled out seemingly to be coming from nowhere; she hid near one of the lamps to avoid him hoping he couldn't see her. This hope was taken from her when he started to grow out from the light inside the lamp itself, he stared into her and raised his blades.

Marceline had never feared death before, even before Simon when she was lost to the world she didn't think of her own death. She closed her eyes and prepared to let the end come wishing she had made up with Bonnie before it was too late and felt guilt at being unable to protect BMO from this guy.

"Marceline?" the voice asked softly this time.

She opened her eyes after hearing her name and saw her wolf bait boy staring at her in front; he looked at her with shock. His swords disappeared almost instantly as he backed away from her.

"I'm sorry I'm really sorry Marceline… I didn't realise it was you, when someone took BMO from me I panicked; I was worried about her so I acted on impulse. My glob… I almost killed you." The guy seemed to slowly fall to the stage below and sit down and start to sob.

Marceline didn't know what to do. One second she was prepared to die then her would be killer starts crying. She was boiled with anger, who did he think he was putting the fear of death in her? Never in her hundreds of years of life had she feared death.

"YOU! HOW DARE YOU DO THAT TO ME? AND BMO? YOUR FRIEND? DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH HOW DARE YOU CALL YOURSELF HER FRIEND AFTER ROBOT-NAPPING HER!"

Lumen stared at the distraught vampire queen as she screamed at him.

"Robot-napping? What are you talking about, BMO chose to come with me after me and Finn split at the Ice Kingdom? And YOU WERE THE ONE WHO ATTACKED ME AND TRIED TO CHOP ME IN HALF" rising to her challenge both were in each-others face with rage filling them both.

"What are you talking about? Finn wasn't with you he was with LUMEN… the guys the Prince of Shades and a decent guy that wouldn't just take other peoples stuff without asking and then invade someone's home!"

"Invade? Are you kidding me? I've been trying to meet you since I met you… you… you nut job… I asked Bonnie to help me find you; she wouldn't say… it was down to Finn to lead me to you. After I helped Simon and Betty get back together they said it was time for me to meet you and BMO said she wanted to come with me as she didn't want to see Finn and Phoebe just smooching all the time. You know what. From the moment I saw you in that field I thought you were beautiful I thought you were like a guardian angel to me, you helped me to find Finn and the candy kingdom and it has meant so much to me. I been thinking about you constantly even thinking about being like your boyfriend even though I don't know you and what? YOU TRY TO KILL ME. What the junk? This is why I never bloody left the shade kingdom in the first place…" he continued his massive adrenaline filled rant while dematerializing into the shadows again. Marceline stood there speechless at his rant and finally the ball dropped.

"Lumen?"

Lumen reappeared inside her house; he went looking for BMO planning on getting the MO then high tailing it out of the cave before the vampire tried to kill him again. BMO on the other hand was playing ninja in one of Marceline's closet's thinking that the pair had started to get to know each other better and so BMO had given them some alone time.

He went through the house ignoring most of the features just trying to find the MO when he tripped on a closed pot of paint that was on the floor and fell over. As he fell he accidently hit play on Marcy's sound system that was in the room. It was what she used to record her freshest and most personal tracks and suddenly a song started to play. Lumen stopped when he started to hear her voice play and stopped what he was doing listening closely to it.

Lumen stood frozen to his spot, he looked in front of him to see Marceline come through the door just to catch the last line of her secret song. Her face went bright red as she stared at the stunned Prince. She didn't know what to say left speechless by her overly revealing song. She had written and recorded it earlier in the day when thinking about Lumen and her wolf bait boy… not realising at the time they were the same person.

"WHY ARE YOU LISTENING TO THAT? WHY ARE YOU EVEN IN MY HOUSE LUMEN?"

"Marceline I'm so sorry I never meant to listen to it I tripped and when I fell I accidently hit the button on that contraption and it started to play your voice, I recognised it from the other night in the woods on the way from the Ice Kingdom to the Fire kingdom so I listened. I'm so sorry I didn't know what it was and I didn't know how to stop it." The prince spat out trying to explain himself, he was blushing greatly too from Marcy's song.

"Contraption? You don't know what that is?" she asked stunned? "Aren't you human so shouldn't you know about human things?"

"It's a human thing? I don't really have any memory of my life before the shade kingdom so I don't know much about human things; I didn't even recognise Betty and Finn as humans when I met them." He sighed admitting something that bothered him.

"Hey wolfbait don't let it- wait did you say you heard my song in the woods? Have you been stalking me?" she asked confused remembering his previous comment.

"Oh no aha… Finn and I were heading to the fire kingdom to reunite him with Phoebe… Flame Princess… (she looked puzzled by the name Phoebe), we had camped for the night and I offered to stay up since I don't need to sleep and I… well I heard your voice and recognised it… it sounded like that of the voice of an angel so I chased after it… I ended up falling off a cliff chasing after you and I got knocked out and Finn had to rescue me" He admitted to the vampire.

"But dude you can float or fly or whatever? I saw you do it?" she asked?

"Well yeah but I was distracted… your voice was as beautiful as you" he said shyly.

Marceline blushed at his comment… no one had ever called her beautiful before… Ash wasn't the type for compliments and just called her sexy or babe. Finn still called her a 'radical dame' which she could only guess was his insecure way of saying she was hot but beautiful. No… beautiful was new.

"You… you think I'm beautiful" Marceline asked her voice slightly breaking with nervousness.

"Of course" he stated firmly, Marcy almost thought he was offended she had to ask. "Marceline you are the most beautiful person I have ever met. From the moment I looked up to see you in my life I've wanted to tell you that. Your amazing you literally saved my life and led me on my destiny to some of the best people in Ooo and there's not many people quick and sneaky enough to get a jab in on me I'll tell you that" He winked at her hoping it would put her a bit more at ease.

"But… I did just try to kill you" she said suddenly guilty for her actions.

"Well there's got to be more to you than a cute exterior, I think a girl who can take care of herself is awesome… though please do not try that again, you don't know how close you were" he laughed nervously.

Marcy got up close to the human hugging him from behind. "You sure you don't want me to sneak up on you" she teased. She figured he would be like Finn and by this point start stuttering and getting shy.

"Yes I'm sure" He smiled… "I always want to see you coming" he winked at her. Lumen had been pretty nervous when he thought about meeting Marceline but he was still a little bit of an adrenaline rush and he felt comfortable with her. Marceline on the other hand had imagined she being her cool self but ended up being a little nervous. She smiled to the human.

The two just smiled at each other. They both were nervous due to the fact they had, in their own way, declared that they like liked each other. Marcy invited Lumen to play basketball. It was a bit of a difficult game due to the fact the two used their powers to play. Marcy transformed into large creatures and then turning invisible and Lumen using light to create illusions to trick her or travelling through shadows. Marcy ended up winning partly because by the time Lumen had learnt the rules she was in the lead and Marcy had a feeling the prince had let her win. After that the two retired indoors for some food. Marcy drained the red from her apples making them white which amused Lumen to no end. He explained that most food in the Shade Kingdom is black and that white food in a delicacy. He ate the white apples that she tossed him and thought that they were amazing. Marcy then decided to show him her Bass and she sung a few songs. Lumen was curious about music as he hadn't heard a lot. It is one of the things that made him follow her that night by the fire kingdom.

"So how did you find me when I was invisible anyway" Marceline ended up asking him as they chilled on the sofa "No one usually can find me unless I want them too"

"Well you don't cast a shadow I'm not sure why it's the first time I've ever seen it happen but where you were invisible the light acted slightly differently. I felt that difference in the light in the cave."

"Oh I see well that's rad and I think it's pretty obvious why I don't cast a shadow though?"

"Really whys that Marceline?"

"Well I'm a vampire? The Queen of Vampires to be correct"

"You… You're a Vampire?"

"Wasn't it obvious? Why did you think I had all those powers?"

"I thought you were a demon…"

"You sccccarrreddd of your girl now you know she could suck you dry" she winked at him and then went invisible. He smiled at the fact that she called herself his girl. He grabbed at what seemed at nothing and she reappeared. He had managed to grab hold of her hand and pull her close. "You know wolfbait that is no fun at all" She moaned.

"Hehe I know and scared? No I'm not scared of you "He chuckled out loud. "You're still my beautiful stranger and if you hadn't noticed I didn't even care when I thought you were all demon. After all I've met the Lord of evil before and he was like a demon too."

Marceline smiled; usually people ran or flinched when they heard she was part vampire part demon but here Lumen was accepting it.

"Wait what? You met the Lord of Evil? Do you mean Hunson Abadeer?" she quizzed him.

"Yeah that's him, do you know him or something?"

"Yeah… He's my dad?"

"Whoa so you're his little monster? He told me about you before when he was in my kingdom."

"He talks about me? Why does he even visit you?"

"That's… a secret."

"A secret? You're going to learn that you can't keep secrets from me now spill the beans wolfbait."

Lumen sighed… "He came to meet looking for a cure."

"A cure for what…?"

"A cure for sunlight, he said that he's daughter couldn't walk in the light and since I control light he thought I might be able to make a cure to protect her from the sun."

"Wait so he was trying to make it so I could walk in the sun…"

"Yes… he loves you dearly and although he doesn't show it he wants to protect you… and one more secret"

"What is it…?"

"I completed the cure"

Since meeting up earlier that morning both parties had learnt a great deal. Bonnie was surprised to find that the cause for most of their problems were evil entities. Bonnie was a bit annoyed that she hadn't seen it and Lumen had but Finn was happy with Phoebe now and Simon was back so she let it slide. Finn on the other hand was amazed that Bubblegum had invited an elixir of life for the candy people. She explained that aside from her everyone would have a diluted version so it prolonged life rather than give them immortality. Jake was happy about Finn and Phoebe too and made a lot of jokes about Finn now being a Prince. Overall it was a good reunion for the gang and it seemed everything was working out.

"LICH ALERT LICH ALERT LICH ALERT" Cried out the Gumball Guardians. The group all ran to the window to see the guardians pointing to the grasslands.

"Where is he?" PB screamed to the guardians.

"Our sensors detect he is heading north past the kingdom, heading in the direction of the Vampire Queens current living quarters." Loudly stated the guardian.

"Marceline" whispered PB.

"Peebles let's go! We have to get to Marceline, BMO and Lumen before he does!" Finn shouted to the stunned princess. Jake grabbed PB and the two started to make their way north followed by Phoebe and Finn flying.

"You completed a cure? You mean you can make it so I can go into sunlight?"

Lumen looked deep into her eyes as she asked, her red tint was all more apparent as she stared back into his searching for an answer.

"Yes… I can make it so you can walk in the sun, it's actually not a difficult thing to do and I could do it any second now. I was gonna contact Hunson when I got back to the Shade Kingdom. I only really completed this through my work on the Shadow Shield I used on Finn, Betty and Phoebe"

"Shadow Shield?" this is the first Marceline had heard of it.

Lumen explained more of the trip he and Finn had been on and the Shadow Shield that now protects Finn from the elements and allows him to touch Phoebe. He explained his meeting with Betty and how he realised the capabilities of the spell. He also explained how he had cured Phoebe's elemental matrix through removing the 'darkness' that existed within it.

"So you'd cast this? Shadow Shield and I'd be okay in the sun?" She asked again.

"I planned on casting that anyway but no, that's not how to protect you from the sun; the Shadow Shield manipulates the shadow to provide a layer of warmth within the body to shield from the cold and creates an external layer of cool that allows immunity to heat. The way to protect you from the sun is a spell I named Light Streak. I tested it on these little people that burnt easily from the suns heat. It gave them immunity to the sun's rays but at the cost of a streak of white flowing in their hair." Lumen wasn't sure he wanted to cast it as he loved the raven coloured hair that flowed from Marceline's head.

"Do it…" Marcy said quietly.

"What now?" He didn't expect her to want it right away.

"Yes. Please do it now"

Lumen took her hand and they both floated in the air in a sitting position. He first cast Shadow Shield and Marcy felt a wave of cool rush into her and followed by a wave of heat. It was a pleasant feeling and she felt really good after.

Lumen started to cast light streak next, he's mainly white hair began to glow and fade back to black leaving only the white streak Marcy had known him to have from the day on the hill. He's body seemed to glow and it spread through his whole body before flowing through his hands into Marcy's. She felt a tingling sensation spread through her body before she saw a few strands of her hair glow and then turn white. Lumen suddenly fell back to the floor and landed with a thud. Marcy glided down to him and picked him up laying him on the sofa. It must have taken a lot out of him to cast both spells at once. Marcy went to the stove and turned it on before putting her hand into the fire, nothing… no burning… he really had done it. She wanted to just fly out of her cave to the sun and feel the sun without it burning her but she decided she'd wait until he had woken up to share the moment with her.

She floated up to her room and looked in her mirror; going down the right side of her hair there was now a white streak in her hair that matched Lumen's. She heard BMO talking to herself and decided to leave the MO on her own and started to change. She put on a check shirt, jeans, and her red boots and then headed back downstairs. Lumen had woken up by that time but still seemed a little shaky.

"How'd a look wolfbait?" Marcy teased posing for the Prince.

"You look amazing, it suits you" he said laughing at how she played with the white hair.

"Your hair changes colour? Is that normal?" She asked remember something she wanted to ask.

"Well for me yes, the more I use my light powers the more of my hair changes colour. Flight, shadow morph and dual swords all are shadow powers but the shield spells and the holy light are light ones. It's just something that happens so I let it do what it likes but when I use a large amount of light powers it goes back to this mainly black with a white streak." He said ruffling his hair as he spoke.

"Cute now come on take me out in the sun" She beamed at him as she dragged him up. He started to float again and the two left the house.

"Wait let's take BMO with us… BMOOO" Lumen called back to the house. The robot came bouncing out from behind the house with a :') smile on her face.

"BMO is glad to see Dusky and Marcy like each other. Dusky took ages to get dressed this morning trying to look good for Marceline" the little robot jumped onto Lumen and climbed up into her little pouch on the back. Lumen went bright red at the mention of his lengthy morning routine whereas Marcy snickered at him.

"So Dusky?" She asked.

"Yeah it's a nickname BMO gave me, its cause my names Lumen Dusk and she liked my surname. It's still better than Phoebe's nickname." He sighed acknowledging that flame princess may never learn his name.

"What's Red's nickname for you?" she asked starting to hold his hand and pull him close tempting him to answer.

"She calls me Pervert". Marceline had to hold her stomach as it ached after she was laughing at the name. Lumen told her why she started to call him it and that Finn didn't know and Marcy just kept laughing.

"Guess I should be glad you were gonna knock on my door rather than peep through the curtain"

Lumen's face went red with embarrassment.

"And you keep going red like that wolfbait and I may have to have a nibble on you" she winked at the prince and floated to the entrance of the cave.

"You ready for this Marceline"

"I've wanted nothing more for so long now…" They flew out of the cave and flew to the top of the little mountain domain where the cave dwelled where the builders had also added a little garden that had a bench. The two sat on the bench as the clouds parted allowing the sun to shine on them. Marceline sat back and for the first time in many years felt the rays of the sun. She flew around a bit before lying down and closing her eyes. She felt Lumen lay down beside her. She felt at peace as the warm light covered her skin and a light breeze flew through her hair.

"You like it?"

"I Love it" Marceline leant over to Lumen and pushed her lips to his. He returned the gesture and pulled himself closer to her. They passionately kissed each-other neither wanting to stop until Lumen felt his cheek getting wet. He opened his eyes to see tears running down her cheek.

"What's wrong Marcy?" Lumen asked worried. "Nothing… Nothing is wrong for the first time in a long time… I'm happy… and it's all thanks to you… Thank you Lumen" She pulled him in for another kiss which he happily returned…

Well there we go :) Our little creatures of the night have met, seem well aquainted and now Marceline can walk in the Light.

Shadow Shield - Grants Immunity to Heat and the Cold.

Light Streak - Allows people to exist in the sun.

Dual Swords - Lumen's way of summoning his weapons, they have importance later on and there is a connection to Finn's sword.

Shadow Morph - How Lumen can get around without being seen, he can turn into a shadow (looks like Prismo a bit but can change form)

Light Morph - Just appear from lights to get an advantage over his opponents (Lumen can't attack from either of the Morph forms so it's more for stealth and sneak attacks as well as quick escapes.

Holy Light - The light that rids someone of doubt and anger, it also banishes the dark entities from the other worlds due to it being a power from one of the other worlds.

This is a quick sum up of Lumen's main abilities, the others will also be showing more of their abilities in the upcoming chapters and there will be serious plot development. Lumen's abilities aren't really suited for combat he's more of a defensive person which is why Finn still would have the upper hand.
