The Other Trials

The trials continue and the rest of the group get their chance. What will there trials be and where will they wake up?

The Trial of Simon and Bubba – Depression and Sorrow

Simon stood facing the aftermath of the apocalypse; he stared at the rusted cars and the broken houses that littered the street. Wherever they were they were the only ones there. He went back to the pink prince and tried to wake him again, this time the man had stirred.

"Simon? Is that you? Where are we?" the prince managed to slur out before standing up and regaining his composure.

"Yes it's me Gumball, I'm not quite sure where we are I awoke a few minutes before you, judging by the way things look we are in a different time than before but it doesn't look like the aftermath of the mushroom war."

"It's because it's not Simon" the Ice Prince turned to Bubba to see the Prince with a weird device in his hands. "When I arrived in your world I created this, it can calculate the difference between the worlds and it is saying that we are neither on mine or yours."

"Meaning?"

"We are on one of the world's already claimed by the greater evil… this is what is in store for Ooo and Aaa when he is finished with it." The two began to explore the world they were in. All plant life had long since died and the grounds were littered with skeletons that had lost all of their skin. They walked through the world of rubble till they arrived at a different street. They saw that one of the houses was still intact; they walked to the gate and weren't surprised when it fell off instead of open.

The house itself looked like it had experienced great strain and the front door was hanging off its hinges. Simon went and looked in the cupboards looking for some food for the two but all the boxes he picked up immediately turned to dust. He heard Bubba call from the other room.

"Simon… look at this picture" was all Bubba holding onto an aged picture frame. Simon took it from his hands and wiped away the remaining dust. There were 4 people in the picture, two older people who were male and female, Simon supposed these were the parents. The other two people were also girl and boy; they were the same height and looked around 17. Simon would have said they were twins looking at the pair but it was the boy that caught his eye more, he wasn't much defined but he had brown hair and a big smile. The one feature that really made him stand out was his bright blue eyes.

"…it can't be" Simon exclaimed.

"It must be… this house… this world… that boy… it's all Lumen or should I say Ivel." The prince replied.

"So our trial is based in Lumen's old world, he lived and died here in this place and we have to somehow overcome that and survive?"

"I don't know what our trial is but I think it would be a good chance to learn a bit about Lumen's past, this house survived where many have not which would suggest it's important. The problem however is that this house may have been here to draw us in and that would mean the greater evil knows about Lumen and his past. He has the advantage and now we must be the ones to take that from him."

"What would you suggest we look for Gumball?"

"Anything that connects to Lumen's past life, but first if I was you I'd build an Ice wall around the house, it may draw in more attention but it gives us more protection from whatever may be alive in this world."

"Good plan, what will you do?"

"I'm going to gather all the pictures and stuff I can that links to Lumen, there may be a room upstairs that was his and it probably survived better than this room. If we are to beat this evil we need to make sure it cannot use Lumen's past against him or us."

"Let's get started then."

The Trial of Cake and Benny – Testing and Reconstruction

"Oi Benny-boy I think you might want to wake up sugar"

Benny shot up to see a very worried looking cat staring back at him. Truth be told Benny was still a bit weirded out by the talking animals in Ooo and Aaa but acknowledged them as friends none the less.

"Hey Cake where is everyone I thought we would be starting the tasks today?" Benny asked back rubbing his eyes trying to wake up properly.

"Oh honey I think you may wanna open them eyes of yours and take a peek around. The trials have started" Cake gave a stern reply.

Benny shot up and stared at the world around them. It was a wasteland with nothing on it. There were dried up trees and sand and that was all. Oddly enough it was warm although it appeared to be the dead of night.

"Let's try and find our way around this, I've never seen this place before Cake so I have to imagine it's somewhere we've never been. This may even be a whole new world, since its night let's see if we can find our way using the stars." Benny thought this seemed like a good idea, travelling Aaa had taught him a lot and when you had to travel through places where the laws of physics don't apply it's good to have a way to get around.

"That sure does sound like a great idea but I'm afraid to tell you that it's not night time it's actually morning."

"But Cake it's clearly night time what makes you say it's not?"

"Cats know these things honey and I'm afraid that it is definitely day time which mean that this world-"

"-has no sun…" finished Benny. The pair stood facing the sky and the land around them. They were in an unknown place, with no way to get around and no way to know where they were. They needed to find a way to decide what to do.

"Cake can you stretch up and see if you can see anything?"

"Sure thing sugar" Cake the Cat stretched herself high into the sky; she looked around until she saw what she was looking for. Well anything that wasn't sand or a dried tree.

"I got a building in my sights, hop on and I'll take us there"

"Actually Cake I think we should walk and try to avoid being seen, this is a trial and we don't know what else is here so it would help if we could go unseen"

"Good plan, by the way did Lumen give you a necklace too?"

"Yes Cake why do you ask?" The two started to walk to the building that Cake saw, Benny thought this was a random question for the situation.

"Does he seem like the type to gift jewellery or do something for no reason?" The cat asked it had been bothering her since Lumen gave them the oddly detailed necklaces. Cake's was a pink collar with a bow charm on it. Cake had asked the Shade Prince why the presents and at the time he had said to show their friendship. Benny thought about her question, he and Betty had been given the same shaped charm; it was a little heart with a snowflake etched into it. Lumen had said that they held his power in but didn't explain them, Bonnie and Bubba had immediately looked at them with scepticism before putting there's on but Benny hadn't thought anything of it.

"So you think there's something more to the charms?"

"I just don't think we should consider them just jewellery, have you noticed how they feel warm and they glow?" Only then had the two considered the fact they glow as something they need to consider.

"Well whatever there is to them let's just hope they serve a purpose for us as I feel like we're going to need all the help we can get"

"I agree" came a voice behind the two Aaavians.

The Trial of Jake – Acceptance

Jake the Dog lay back in his and Lady's bed; he smiled and got comfortable… Life was good. Jake had woken up back in his bed and felt great. "Maybe all that greater evil biss was just a jacked up dream… another me that's a cat aha I should lay off the bug milk." Jake thought about the dream a lot though, he hadn't really been in the story of it much but that was silly Finn needed Jake and it was always going to be Finn and Jake the two awesome bros and heroes of Ooo.

"Lady I'm off out I'm gonna go see my boy Finn at the tree house" Jake called out as he was making his way out of the door. No reply. "Maybe she's gone out" nonetheless Jake set out on his way to see Finn he made it to the tree house in no time and knocked on the door.

No one answered so Jake let himself in. He climbed up the ladder and looked around; it looked different in the living room so Jake guessed that Finn had finally got round to decorating. He heard someone in the shower and thought it would be funny to play a trick on Finn while he was getting washed. Jake burst through the curtain and screamed out boo.

"JAKE WHAT THE HECK DUDE WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!" yelled Fionna through a cloud of steam she instantly threw a towel on and kicked the dog out of the shower.

"Dude were you just taking a peep on my girl?" Jake turned to see Marshall floating over towards him looking very annoyed.

"No! I swear no I was looking for my boy Finn? What are you two doing here?" Jake asked the vampire.

"Jake? Are you alright? Me and Fi have lived here ever since Finn moved out, You know that right or have you hit your noggin and why you looking for Finn anyway you know he hasn't wanted you around for a while he's a big boy now just leave him be" The vampire showed Jake out and went back into the tree house.

"What in the name of Glob's going on? Finn moving out? The two of them not being part of my dream… I need to go see Bubblegum" Jake grew larger and began to make his way to the Candy Kingdom, the Guardians waved him in and he made he's way to the palace.

When he was into the upper chambers of the palace he saw a girl at the other end of the hall wearing a bright purple ball gown.

"Bubblegum… Oi Peebles?" Jake yelled but the girl didn't turn, Jake got closer and tapped her shoulder.

"Bonnie?" The girl turned round to reveal that she was in fact not Bonnie. She looked a lot like the Candy Princess had when she had been turned 13 but had purple hair and eyes.

"Mr Jake? Why are you calling me Bonnie? That's mummies name you know my name" She smiled at him and began to hug him.

"Erm sure… why don't you tell me it again just to jog my old dog memory?" Jake said confused as to who this girl was and why she called Bonnie mummy.

"Hehe silly old doggy, my name is Princess Belle Gumdrop, daughter of Bonnibel Bubblegum and Bubba Gumball; I am heir to the Candy throne and your god-daughter. Is this a new game where we pretend we don't know each other… you know I'm not good with games Mr Jake?" The little girl giggled and began to smile at Jake again.

"Yeah sure it's a game called let's find Mummy Bonnie I'll let you lead okay Belle" the princess cheered and grabbed Jakes hand, she ran through the candy kingdom in search of her mum before remembering that her mum was in one of her main labs. She led Jake to the lab on the top floor of the Candy Palace.

"Mummy… Mummy are you in there?" Princess Gumdrop yelled. There was a crash and a bang in the lab and then Bonnie came out wearing her lab goggles and coat.

"Belle honey I thought I told you not to disturb mummy when she's in the lab?"

"Yes mummy I'm sorry but Uncle Jake wanted to play a game where we had to find you."

"Is that right sweetie? Well maybe you could play let's find daddy while I talk with uncle Jake, last time I saw him he was heading into the cotton candy park."

"Woo sure thing mummy, I love you and bye Uncle Jake let's play this game again next time" the little purple princess skipped off to go find her dad.

"What are you doing here Jake I told you you're not to come here anymore."

"Whoa what the junk Bonnie? What in the name of glob is going on, first Fionna and Marshall are real and living at the tree house, then you have a daughter and now you're saying you want me to leave" Jake was seriously confused by this point. What had happened and why didn't he remember it.

"Jake what are you talking about? You know full well what happened. Now I'm asking you to leave nicely, Belle still looks up to you and Bubba to have you in her life but if you do not leave on your own accord I will have you thrown out of the Kingdom" with that Bonnie slammed the door on the dog and left Jake standing there with his mouth wide open.

Jake walked away from the Candy Kingdom more confused than before. What was wrong with everyone it was like they all hated him or something? Jake decided to try Marceline next on his choice of visits thinking that if anyone knew what was going on it was going to be the Vampire Queen.

Jake thought a lot on his trip to Marcy's cave, he clearly had lost years of his life given that Belle was around 13 years old. How had it happened had he hit his head again or was it magic… the dog decided to just ignore everything for now when he arrived at Marceline's cave.

"Yo Marceline you home gal?" Jake walked to the door and knocked loudly. He waited but heard nothing so figured she was still asleep. He went to turn and was greeted by a horrifying face. He screamed and curled up in a ball in fear.

"Never fails to work Jakey-boy" the Vampire Queen chuckled at the dogs scared reaction.

"Marceline, what the junk is wrong with you! Why would you scare me like that?" The dog gasped out gripping at his chest.

"Hey Marcy sweetie is someone here?" Lumen came floating out of the door holding a tray of cookies in his hand and wearing an apron. "Oh hey Jake perfect timing here try one of these" He held the tray out to the dog. Jake took one and ate it without really looking.

"Wow these are great dude what are they?"

"Fang shaped cookies with red strawberry Icing. I'm making them to take with us when we go visit the Nightosphere later on today. Marcy's mums been teaching me to bake, Marceline thinks it's funny but I know she likes my cookies and so does Hope."

"Hope?" Jake turned to see a girl the same age as Belle floating around the room. She had long raven hair, peachy skin and different coloured eyes; one was bright blue and one was bright red.

"You've got a kid too!?" Jake yelled at the duo.

"You know we have Jake? You and the weenie were there the day she was born and you were the one that helped her through her 'teething troubles'. Hmm… it's a shame about you and the weenie though." Marcy said with a glum look on her face.

Jake thought quickly and then came up with an idea. "Marceline Lumen I have something to tell you" The pair picked up Hope and beckoned Jake inside. The floor was littered with various toys that the little girl played with.

"The last thing I remember is falling asleep the night before the trials of the greater evil… I woke up here the next day" Jake said hoping the two would believe him. Lumen just looked at Marceline and nodded. Marceline got up grabbed Hope and left the house.

"Jake if you're here that means it's your trial. You see we've already lived through the trials and survived. I can't tell you anything that may change the past too much but the trials changed everyone. You told me about your trip to the future when we spoke after we finished the first trial and I always wondered whether you were just dreaming after all but it seems like it's time. We need to find Finn" Lumen was very serious and grabbed Jakes paw before shadow morphing.

Jake looked up at the fire kingdom and asked Lumen what they were doing here; the Shade Prince just finished casting Shadow Shield so paused before he continued.

"Finn lives here as the Human King, him and Phoebe got married and moved in together here to rule over the Fire Kingdom. If you really are past Jake then you will have no idea what happened between you and him and why you two no longer talk." Lumen's face suddenly fell even further than when Jake first mentioned his predicament.

"Lumen just tell me what happened, Fionna and Marshall were annoyed to see me, Bonnie hates me and apparently Finn won't even talk to me so what happened to cause all of that." Jake questioned, he had started to lose his patience with this 'trial'.

"The greater evil happened… While we were away with the first trial the greater evil sent… someone to Ooo… what it did there changed everyone. The second trial… Lady Rainicorn got dragged up into it; she got possessed and went to kill Phoebe… Finn protected Phoebe before he knew what he was protecting her from and he… he hurt Lady quite badly… Lady survived that… but you… you were furious… although at the time we didn't know there was actually something inside you… an evil entity like what was in Simon's crown… you went after Finn… and you chopped off his arm Jake… you took away his arm…" Jake stared horrified at the tale Lumen was telling him. How could it be true…? Lumen carried on.

"After you cut it off the evil inside you grew and you went to kill Finn… Lady got in the way and… and… and you killed Lady. After that… no one could forgive you. They understood but still they could not forgive. Fionna and Marshall are annoyed as you hurt Finn but they accepted it wasn't your fault but Bonnie… Bonnie couldn't forgive you for killing her best friend."

"And Finn…"

"And Finn moved away here and made it so no one could help you get flame shield… with Bonnie not willing to help you and no flame shield… you've never been able to enter the kingdom and so you haven't spoken in years…"

"How many years…" Jake asked struggling to take in everything that Lumen was saying.

"15 Years Jake the Dog… 15 years since the day the trial started and the road to hate began." Lumen and Jake looked up to see the King of the Flame Kingdom standing before them. He wore a dark red top with black jeans and his long golden hair was braided and tucked under the crown on his head. He stood there holding his Angel Wing Sword with one hand and… and he held his Demon Blood Sword in his robotic arm. Finn the Human King looked at the two and ran at Jake.

The Trial of Finn and Phoebe – Sacrifice and Shock

Finn looked up as the light started to disappear; the deeper he got into the ocean the less light there seemed to be. He looked down trying to see what had grabbed him but he couldn't see anything. He tried to swing his blade at whatever it was but he just couldn't get a good enough swing underwater to do a decent swing.

"Maybe… Maybe I wasn't meant to succeed after all… At least in the end I got to see her again…" Unbeknown to Finn the water he was drowning in had properties that brought out his darkest most depressive thoughts. Finn the Human Prince put his sword away and stopped struggling… he was ready to embrace Death.

He looked up again and saw that the light was growing again. "I'm still going down… so this must be it… the end" Finn stared at the light waiting for it to take him, it got closer and closer and then it passed him completely. Finn looked down and could now see the gross tentacle creature that had grabbed him. It was bleeding out and thrashing due to a wound to the head. Finn looked closer and was shocked back into his Hero self.

"Phoebe…" Finn swam down as fast as he could; he grabbed his dying girlfriend and began to swim upwards. He shot up out of the ocean and began to cough up water. It didn't take long for Finn to swim back to the mountain peak which the lantern had started on. He placed Flame Princess on the ground. "WHAT DO I DO?" Finn screamed to himself.

He had left his red bag here before and so began to rummage through it. He found a blanket and his spare pair of clothes. He wrapped Phoebe up in the blanket and started a fire to keep her warm. He changed his clothes and began to dry off his wet ones. Finn sat there staring at his unconscious girlfriend. "You were willing to risk everything… to save me…"

Finn went over and sat beside her; he pulled her head onto his lap and began to stroke her hair. "Rest now my princess, I will protect you." Finn held her tight and began to sing a lullaby; he had been planning on surprising Phoebe with this lullaby.

~"Hush my little Princess don't you cry,
I'm gonna sing you a lul-la-by,
If you are sad or afraid of thee night,
I'll stay beside you till the mor-ning light,

There's no need to shed a single tear,
Nothing's gonna hurt you while I am here,
You are my angel you are my dear,
Let me protect you from all that you fear,

I'll never leave you… never leave your side,
If you are troubled… in me you can confide,
So hush my little princess don't you cry,
Remember the worlds of my lu-lu-lullaby."~

Finn finished singing and wiped a tear from his eye. He had put a lot of thought into this lullaby and the truth was he was planning on singing it to Phoebe when he was ready to be a father to show her how much he would love their child. "Please be okay Phoebe… Please be okay" Finn began to cry and held onto his princess before falling asleep.

"Finn…" Finn opened his eyes to see Phoebe's amber eyes met his. He quickly kissed her and pulled her in for a hug. "Whoa easy tiger… I'm okay don't you worry" Phoebe struggled to say as Finn held onto her tight.

"Phoebe I was so worried… I didn't know what to do…" Finn spat out rapidly still in shock over the whole event it was only then that he looked at Flame Princess and noticed that she was wearing his clothes that he had set out to dry. "Erm… they suit you" he chuckled. He couldn't quite put his finger on it but he thought she looked amazing wearing his top.

"Finn don't worry about me, water does still hurt a lot but over the last few years I've been training to control my powers and to overcome my weaknesses so don't worry Finn… I'm okay and yeah… you see my clothes are actually controlled by my fire and after the stunt I pulled my powers aren't working too well so I needed to borrow these… I hope you don't mind."

"Of course it's okay silly, you look cute in them" Finn nudged her arm and made her blush. She stood up and began to look around she wasn't really sure what they had to do from now on, they were on the only land for miles and neither had any clue of what they had to do.

"Erm… Phoebe"

"Yes Finny?"

"What's that on your hand?"

Phoebe looked down on her hand and looked at what Finn had pointed at. It was a little emblem of the Fire Kingdom. She started to rub it and a voice filled the air.

"Phoebe Flame of the Fire Kingdom, Trial Complete."

When someone completes a trial they will get a mark on their hand and when they acknowledge their victory (rubbing the insignia) a voice will declare their victory but what happens after? Keep reading to find out and please remember to review :)

Author Note: I feel like i've neglect Jake a lot in the story but he has by far the hardest trial, trying to deal with the fact that he lost most of his friends, killed his wife and life moved on without him. How will he cope?
