Faded Memories

From now on the trials will be meeting there end and we'll gain a bit more knowledge on some adventure time lore when conncecting to the Greater Evil. I've tried to address some of the things i think were important and ignored durng the show. Please have watched the episode Puhoy before you read to understand this chapter fully. (maybe rewatch it).

The Trial of Finn and Phoebe – Sacrifice and Shock

"Erm… Phoebe"

"Yes Finny?"

"What's that on your hand?"

Phoebe looked down on her hand and looked at what Finn had pointed at. It was a little emblem of the Fire Kingdom. She started to rub it and a voiced filled the air.

"Phoebe Flame of the Fire Kingdom Trial Complete"

Finn and Phoebe were still as the voice echoed in their ears; neither knew what to say or how to react. Phoebe's insignia began to glow on her hand and her flame turned white for a few seconds before returning to its orangey red state. Finn watched in awe as his girlfriend burned so bright she became white light.

"Woah FP, are you okay?" he asked suddenly worried that the event could be a bad thing.

"Yes Finn… I feel… amazing like a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders and now nothing could stop me" She stood up and began to practice her fire shooting technique, from her hand came a white, a purple, a red and a blue flame; they circled around her and reacted to her every will and thought. She smiled as she realised with this she had finally completed her control over her flames.

"FP… Phoebe how are you doing that?" Finn asked in awe of her powers.

"I don't know… I've never had this much control before… maybe it's this mark or this trial, I was always afraid of burning too hot or using my powers but… When I knew I had to save you I no longer cared I gave everything I could to it and… I think it's helped me gain the full extent of my powers" Phoebe smiled as she watched the fire balls floated up in the air and span, they danced around the sky, she looked at Finn and could see the colours dance in his blue eyes as he watched the beauty of her powers. She smiled but then frowned remembering the trial.

"Finn… the voice it said I had completed my trial… but not you?" Finn met his blue eyes with her amber ones and just smiled. He had already thought of this.

"I think we can go home when I finish my trial, so let's not worry too much FP we can face anything that comes our way." Just as he finished the ocean began to shrink back and disappeared altogether. The land below them was different than it was before. It looked like someone had built a world out of pillows and then set them on fire. The land was multi-coloured but singed. Finn and Phoebe began to climb down the mountain. Finn started to sink on the new land.

"Woah what the junk" he spat out as he regained his balance. "The whole place is really just a giant pillow fort. That's so math. Imagine a whole world made of pillows that would be awesome don't you think Phoebe" Finn looked over to Phoebe to see her bouncing up and down with a giant smile on her face. It crossed Finn's mind there that Phoebe probably had never been in a pillow fort before, due to the fact she'd send it into a fiery blaze. He grabbed her hand and indicated her to sit down.

"Trust me Phoebes this will be fun" Finn then started to slide forward taking Phoebe with him as they slid all the way down the pillow mountain and into what appeared to be a Pillow town. Finn started to walk into the town holding FP's hand when a blurry memory came to him.

~Finn hears screams in the distance getting closer to him and looked down to see pillow children running towards him.

Pillow children: Dragon! Blanket Dragon! Run!

Finn: Huh?

Pillow child: [bumps into Finn's leg] Oof! Hey mistah, you betta get wunnin'! Bwanket Dwagon!

He looked up as he heard a loud roar; he saw a red dragon made of blankets land right in front him and give out another load roar.~

Finn opened his eyes to once again see Phoebe's amber ones staring back at him; all he could see in her eyes was worry and panic.

"Phoebe… what's wrong?" He asked confused as to why she was looking so scared.

"Finn you've been unconscious for an hour now… nothing I did would wake you… you just kept muttering about dragons and pillows…" Phoebe let him sit up and hugged him.

"Sorry I worried you FP… but I think I've been here before"

"What do you mean? How is that possible?"

"I don't know I just had this weird memory… there were pillow children and they were running away… running from a blanket dragon over there…" Finn pointed towards the centre of the pillow town and was shocked to see a statue where he had seen the dragon. He and Phoebe started to head towards the statue till they were up close. Finn ran his hand against it… stone… not pillow.

The statue depicted a man holding up his sword to the sky in a heroic pose as if fighting off a flying foe. Finn thought the statue was awesome and went around looking at the detail and the craftsmanship that went into making it. Phoebe knelt down by the front of the statue where there was a plaque.

"Here stood the Hero Finn, who protected our land from the Blanket Dragon. Finn the Human Man was a brave and selfless hero that shall be remembered forever in our memories and in the hearts of those who loved him."

"Erm Finn… Come read this quickly" Phoebe yelled out to him. Finn came over and wiped a bit of the dirt off to get a clear view of the plaque. He read it and his face lit up in shock.

"This… this is talking about me?" He looked puzzled but his mind became blurry again as he had another memory.

"Roselinen: There you are, Finn the Human.

Finn: Oh, hey there... Um, you can just call me Finn if you want.

Roselinen: All right, Finn. My name is Roselinen, daughter of Quilton. You have to call me the whole thing.

Finn: Oh, uh...

Roselinen: Just kidding!

Finn: Heh. Oh, uh, your dad seems fun.

Quilton: Oh, ha ha, oh my! Puhzah!

Roselinen: [chuckles] Yeah. Um, you wanna dance?

Finn: Oh, well... [A pillow bird flies and lands beside him.] I...have a girlfriend. [Pillow bird chirps]

Roselinen: [laughs] [playfully hits Finn on the cheeks] Dummy, it's a dance, not marriage.

Finn: [laughs nervously] Yeah, okay! [The pillow bird poops a little pillowcase on Finn's shoulders.] This place is weird.

Roselinen: [Walking on the dance floor.] Are you telling me that birds in your world don't poo little pillowcases?

Finn: Naah, just regular poo.

Roselinen: Hey, like this. [She grabs his hand and places it on her hip, which absorbs it.]

Finn: Eh, yeah, I-it's really cool. Where I come from, I live with my best friend, who's my brother. And he's a dog. [Chuckles] We fight stuff; it's cool. It's really different than here. I mean, where I'm from, blankets and pillows are used for bedding.

Roselinen: [laughs] well they're used for that here too.

Finn: [Blushes then laughs nervously.] Heh heh uh."

Finn opened he's eyes and looked at FP; she didn't look any different so he realized not a lot of time had passed this time.

"How is that possible Finn? How can it be talking about you and calling you Finn the Human Man? The guy in this statue has to be a lot older than you so is it really you" She asked puzzled.

"It is definitely Finn, and it's a long story"

Finn and Phoebe turned to see a woman made of pillows; she had peach coloured skin and a round face. She was wearing an orange floral dress and her blonde hair was shaped into a bun with two strands hanging down giving form to her face. Her large lips were in a massive smile as she looked down at the two Ooovians.

"Roselinen…" was all Finn managed to say.

"You remember me Finn?" Roselinen's face lit up at the thought that the human hero remembered who she was.

"Finn who is she and how do you know her?" Phoebe asked a little annoyed; she didn't like not knowing what was going on and also wasn't too keen on the fact that Finn seemed to know this good looking pillow women and had never mentioned it.

"I don't know how I know her; I just got another blurry memory where we were at a party and talking about pooping birds" The human prince replied. Roselinen started to chuckle at the mention of their meeting. "I'm sorry I just know your name and how we met but I feel like I've known you for years" Finn said to the pillow woman still a bit confused to how he knew her.

"Well I can't blame you for forgetting me; daddy said that you would when you went back to your own world. However you should feel like that after all we were married Finn and spent a lifetime together." The pillow woman smiled at the pair as their faces were filled with shock. Finn's head started to feel funny and he collapsed.

"FINN!" Phoebe screamed rushing to his side, she was a little annoyed when she saw that Roselinen had also rushed to his side.

"He's gone into a memory shock" Roselinen said talking to herself.

"WHAT'S A MEMORY SHOCK AND WHO IN THE NIGHTOSPHERE ARE YOU LADY" Phoebe screamed at her. Roselinen looked at her with understanding. This was Finn after all and Roselinen of all people knew what it was like to love him.

"He's regaining all of the memories he lost when he left the pillow world or Ppp and I'll tell you everything just help me carry him to my house." Phoebe was about to argue but looked at Finn and realised that she could use all the help she could get. The two women lifted the muscular human up and carried him to one of the less singed buildings. They carried him into a room with a bed and laid him down on it. Roselinen went to go get some water and food for the pair so Phoebe started looking around the room. It was the master bedroom in the house and was decorated with various things from swords on the wall to family photos. Phoebe went over to one and picked it up. It was a family of four, there were two children a girl and a boy they had short blonde hair. The woman in the picture appeared to be Roselinen as she looked now but the man in the picture is what caught her attention. He looked so familiar but she couldn't place him. He had blonde hair and a big blonde beard. She turned and looked at Finn then back at the picture and let out a little gasp. It was Finn.

Roselinen walked back into the room carrying a plate full of pillows and a few glasses of water. She looked at Phoebe as she looked at her family photo.

"I know it may seem confusing dear but if you will listen I'll tell you everything. My name is Roselinen Mertens and as you may have worked out I was Finn's wife. What's your name?" Phoebe looked towards the woman with confusion; she nodded to the bit about hearing more but was then a bit taken back when the pillow woman spoke her name... "Roselinen Mertens… Mertens… it was true."

"My name is Phoebe Flame… I'm the princess of the Fire Kingdom in the land of Ooo and Finn's girlfriend." The fiery princess replied.

"Flame Princess… FP?"

"Yeah FP, that's Finn's nickname for me… how do you know it?" It just seemed to be getting more confusing for Phoebe.

"Finn first arrived here through a pillow fort his brother Jake had built for him; it was through a special portal door that only turns up periodically. He mentioned his girlfriend FP when he was first here. Finn slayed a blanket dragon that was terrorising pillow town and quickly became a hero to the children and people. We threw him a party to say thanks and that's where I met him. He was sitting behind a few pillows avoiding the party, his mind was stuck on you… if I recall it was something about a joke you didn't get" Phoebe remembered the time that Finn had told a joke that she hadn't gotten straight away and that it had bothered him.

"But that was when we were still children in our early teens? How can there be photos of Finn as an adult?" Phoebe wasn't following the lady's story too well.

"Time here flows differently than in your world. Finn was here until he died in our land, after a few years he decided to settle down and we married, I'd been trying to get his attention for years and I was beginning to believe he just didn't notice when he proposed to me. It was a lovely wedding… we brought a house; this house and began a family we had two children Jay and Bonnie. Finn was an amazing father and our children both loved and respected him. When Finn was getting old we managed to find out more about the door and Finn was told that he could leave soon if he wanted. To my joy he decided to stay with us and we watched our kids grow older and lived our lives. The time came that Finn was on his deathbed however; in his final moments he began to murmur some weird things and then his body disappeared. We were so shocked by what happened he just disappeared. However my father had left a letter explaining everything to us. If someone dies outside of their own world the being of Death from that world would take them back to their own world and restore them back to how they was before they left their world. Fortunately for Finn your time was so slow compared to ours he managed to slide back into his life but a part of the process meant he forgot us." Roselinen finished and sat down in an armchair that was by the bed. Phoebe took a seat too and began to process what she had been told. She looked up as Roselinen began to sing a song to Finn while moving his blonde hair out of the way of his face.

Roselinen finished singing her beautiful song and sat back in the chair. Phoebe had been listening to the song carefully believing it was more than a dark lullaby.

"What happened after Finn left" Phoebe asked.

"You really are a smart girl Phoebe, I'm glad to see Finn found someone bright to help complete him" The pillow woman smiled at the fiery girl making her blush. "After Finn died something changed. We all stopped ageing and went back to where we were at our most physically well. I became this age, the same age as my children. Then the darkness came, it had come here specifically because it sensed Finn, it tried to kill us all by bathing us in burning rain and raging floods. Each night we would face horrific nightmares of all our loved ones dying at the hands of the darkness. It was torture… people… they began to lose their minds and many either gave into the darkness to embrace a quick death or killed themselves. I'll tell you now it is hard to do when everything around you is soft. I never lost hope though, me and the children kept fighting, after a while we worked out that the darkness was zeroing in on us in particular, me because I held Finn so tightly in my heart and the children as they carried his blood… his life force. They are out at the moment trying to get some resources. We are all that is left in this world; we thought the darkness would never leave but then it just left. Me and the children had actually moved out of Pillow town and were living in the far mountains but I saw this bright light on top of a mountain, which I believe now was you, and I could swear I could see my husband climbing up it so I packed what I could, left a note for the children and made my way here which is where I found the two of you." Roselinen smiled at the princess of flames trying to make her story seem less… terrible than it had been.

"You lived through hell… because you had loved Finn…" Phoebe said without thinking.

"No… we lived through hell and survived because we had known and loved Finn, he was our hope and we clung to him. It was why the darkness despises him so much." Roselinen spat out bitterly.

"I'm sorry… I didn't mean to offend you… but wait… the darkness knows of Finn?" Phoebe was confused again "how could the darkness know about Finn when we only just learnt about it".

"I don't have the answer to that you'll have to ask Finn's father he seems to know a lot about the darkness from what I've heard over the years"

"Wait Finn's dad? Martin? Why would he know about it?"

"I don't know dear… but I'm afraid that Finn was born to fight the darkness, you never thought that he shines bright, even brighter than you sweetie"

Phoebe looked at her unconscious boyfriend and smiled, Roselinen was right. Finn had always been a source of hope and light for all of Ooo. "You have always been my light Finn, wake up and brighten our way". She stood up and kissed Finn on the head before sitting back in her chair.

The two women sat in silence listening to Finn's breathing waiting for him to wake up.

A few hours pass…~

BANG!

Phoebe and Rose jump up to the sound of a loud bang downstairs, Phoebe instantly materializes her flame sword and throws Rose her necklace sword. Rose tightened her hand round it and got in a defensive combat pose that was Finn's signature stature. Phoebe smiled; trust Finn to teach his wife how to wield a blade. The pair waited when two people popped their heads in the door startled by the blades that were pointed towards them.

"Erm mum it's Jay and Bonnie here, please do not stab us we come in peace" came the male's voice as he walked in the room with his hands held high. His sister joined him a few seconds after not bothering to pose defensively and just laughed at her brother.

"Woah your on fire are you okay?" the girl instantly rushed over to Phoebe trying to see if she was okay.

"Yes I'm a fire elemental if I wasn't on fire then that's when you have to worry" Phoebe chuckled; she could see so much of Finn in both these people, in both personality and looks. Both were around the age of 18 to 20 and had short blonde hair that resembled Finn's a lot. They had their mothers peachy pink skin and Finn's bright blue eyes. Phoebe thought about the names quickly "Jay… Jake… Bonnibel… Bonnie… He named them after his best friends, I'm surprised there's no little Marcy running around here" She chuckled again.

"Jay, Bonnie I'd like you to meet Phoebe Flame, she is the Princess of the Fire Kingdom where Daddy comes from." Roselinen started to explain. Jay instantly bowed to the Princess and Bonnie curtseyed. Finn had raised his children to respect royalty.

"She is Finn's girlfriend from the land of Ooo" Roselinen continued. Both of his children froze at this comment. They looked from Roselinen, to Phoebe, to the unconscious Finn, back to Roselinen and back to Phoebe and then back to Finn who was sat up staring at them with a confused face.

"DAD!" both the children screamed before running over to the bed jumping on and hugging their father. Finn didn't know what to say as he pulled them both in for a deep hug.

"Jay… Bonnie… I'm so sorry that I died… and forgot you" Finn started to say when Rose smacked him round the head, since she was a pillow person it didn't hurt but Finn caught on the gesture.

"Don't be silly Finn, you lived your life and was an amazing father and husband. Dying was not your fault sweetie you just got old and moved onto your next life… with this flame hottie over here" Roselinen wrapped her arm round Phoebe as she said the last bit making the woman blush.

"I remember everything now… I know everything of my last life and all the knowledge and memories I had there… and it's time for us to leave this world" Finn said to the group.

"Leave? How can we leave Finn we're here on a trial?" Phoebe asked confused.

"Look" he held up his hand and showed Phoebe the insignia of a sword that now decorated his hand.

"But how?"

"My trial wasn't a physical one Phoebes that would be too easy, it was a mental one. I had to deal with the memories I had lost and become a complete mind. I rid myself of my inner vault and while unconscious I dealt with every issue I'd ever had, I have a clear mind and a feel amazing. I remember all the knowledge from my time in Pillow world too which is a lot considering Roselinen here forced me to learn all I could when I was here. I became quite the wise man when I was here" Finn smiled proudly. "Now the exit here is part of the trial itself, but not ours. Jay, Bonnie and Roselinen, you're on a trial too… aren't you?" Finn questioned his family.

The family shifted uncomfortably then Bonnie decided to speak.

"Yeah dad, our trials the Trial of the lost souls, we were meant to find our way to somewhere somehow but we never knew how. We've been lost here ever since, never ageing and never finding peace… but how did you know?"

"It's my inner thoughts, their all smart now. I know how you can complete your trial, you can come with me back to Ooo there you can live your lives happily in the Shade Kingdom… I'm kinda a prince there" Finn smiled at his family as their faces lit up with shock when finding out their dad was royalty.

"Does that make me a princess?-"

"And me a prince?" Bonnie and Jay said quickly.

"I guess it does" Finn chuckled. Finn turned to FP and grabbed her hand.

"We are going home sweetie, are you ready?" he beamed at his girlfriend.

"I'm always ready" she replied.

Finn and his family (his family counts as the whole group) prepared for their journey. Finn led them out of pillow town, over the mountains and across much terrain. Phoebe learned the extent Finn had trained his family and how much he had learnt. He led them over dangerous terrain but always picked the right path to avoid harm. His children and Roselinen could easily keep up with Finn even if it meant jumping across a gorge or swimming through a fast flowing river. Finally they reached a large door that appeared to be in the middle of nowhere, it didn't even connect anywhere.

"Here we go the door to Ooo"

"How do you know Finn?"

"Trust me". Suddenly an insignia that matched Finn's began to glow on the pillow people's hands.

"Finn Mertens of the Shade Kingdom, Trial Complete

Roselinen Mertens of Pillow town, Trial Complete

Jay Mertens of Pillow town, Trial Complete

Bonnie Mertens of Pillow town, Trial Complete"

Finn pulled open the door and walked through, he and his family held hands as they were bathed in a mix of blue and red light and walked through. They were suddenly falling and landed with a crash.

"Finn is that you! Finn quickly you need to get up, we need your help" Finn opened his eyes to see BMO staring back at him with a :'( face.

And there is the end of the Trials of Sacrafice and Shock. Phoebe was willing to sacrafice everything and Finn had to overcome psychological trials of shock such as remembering a life he lived, getting rid of his inner vault. Due to the events now Finn is much wiser and aware than before, he's still the same Finn but with all he learned in the life he lived in the pillow world or Ppp. Phoebe has much more control over her power and the coloured flames play a role. The trials were meant to beat the individuals down based on their weaknesses and fears.. Phoebe feared her power and Finn both feared the ocean and he was unable to cope with a lot of problems he faced due to his immaturity. They have grown stronger through their struggles.
Jay and Bonnie do have powers but i'm saving them and how will the group react to Finn's wife and children? You'll have to keep reading to see :)
The song was based on the song sung by Finn and Breezy in the Episode 'Breezy', it was called Lost in Darkness/Love.
