The Trial of Lumen, Marceline, Fionna and Marshall – Pain, Risk and Guilt
~Marshall grabbed at the winder and began to force it the opposite way, the music stopped so he kept going and going till he heard massive crashes and the sound of metal bending out of place from within the box. He let go and was relieved to hear the music had stopped. He went to climb back up to the platform then realised that he had gain back his ability to float. He flew back up as fast as he could…
"Lumen… Lumen no… don't leave me like this" Marceline cried cradling the Human in her arms as she tried to stop the bleeding. Marshall could tell from the edge of the platform that Lumen had bled a lot more after he'd left him from the smell of blood. He looked around and saw Fionna lying down near the other edge and rushed over to her. He lent close as he tried to wake her and heard her voice.
"Bag… Cy… tears… hurry…"~
Marshall flew as fast as he could to her bag; he ripped it open accidentally tearing it in two. "Bug milk… Gum essence… vial of wolf blood… Cyclops tears!" Marshall searched through the contents of Fionna's bag till he found what he was looking for. He grabbed the bottle and rushed back to the blonde human. He uncorked it and was about to pour some on her wounds when a bloody hand stopped him.
"Lume... Lumen first Marshy… He's hurt more…"
"But Fi you've lost so much blood…" Marshall was choking on his words as tears filled his eyes, "how could she still be putting others first?" was all he could think.
"Aha… [she coughs up some blood] don't worry I'm made of stronger stuff… than the Prince over there… now go help him first Marshy". Marshall knew she was right but still didn't want to; he floated over to Lumen and Marceline.
Marceline was still crying desperately as she held her hands on to his wounds trying to stop or at least slow the bleeding… Lumen's skin had turned back to a grey hue showing he didn't even have enough energy to keep his peachy skin. He was covered in a variety of bruises, cuts and wounds. "Oh lump… they really beat the hell out of you shade dude". Marshall lowered himself beside the pair.
"Marcy, you need to move so I can he-" Marshall started to say.
"NO! HE'LL DIE… HOW COULD YOU! HOW COULD YOU HAVE LEFT HIM TO FIGHT US ON HIS OWN; YOU'RE MEANT TO BE ME AND I WOULD NEVER DO THAT!" Marceline screamed at a stunned Marshall, she looked quite bad, her own wounds had long healed thanks to her powers but she had massive puffy eyes due to the crying, her hair was out of place and clotted with blood. She looked a mess.
"Marcy if you move I can save him but I need you to move… trust me… trust yourself" Marshall tried to logic with her hoping she'd let him help Lumen, he needed to hurry back to Fionna.
Marceline got out of Marshall's way but didn't take her eyes off him; he poured the liquid on the hole in Lumen's chest and covered his hands in it to rub into the various wounds over him. He heard a sizzle as the hole began to close and his wounds disappeared. The peachy colour in Lumen's face returned and he started to breathe more regularly. Feeling that he had done what he could Marshall left Lumen with Marceline. She had pulled him onto her lap and was stroking his hair.
Marshall flew back quickly to Fionna and splashed the rest of the Cyclops tears all over her wounds and body. He looked down and face turned into a massive frown… there was no sizzle and the liquid just ran off her body.
"…no… no… why won't it work" he said to himself trying to rub the liquid in. It still had no effect. Marshall tried to rub it in again but it still wasn't working.
"Fi… Fi why won't it work? Why won't it work Fi?" Marshall asked her frantically. He looked to her face and noticed that she was completely pale. He grabbed her hand and noticed it wasn't as warm as normal. He wrapped her in his arms and held her tight.
"No Fi… No… don't leave me… not like this Fi… not like this… where's my big adventuress now…" he started to sob and rock back and forth with her in his arms. He began to hum and then sing a slow and saddening lullaby to her.

~Fi… Fionna…
Remember the time we played video games outside,
or the time that Cake got stuck inside a tree?
Remember, can you try, when I almost nearly died?
Well, without you there I don't know where I'd be,
Gimme the lib-er-ty,
To guess what you mean to me,
Fionna,
Fionna,
You're my girl, you're my broheim,
We're tight like girly jeans,
Fionna,
Fionna,
You'll always be my bro,
And I just wanted you to know,
Now Gimme the lib-er-ty
To say just how much you mean to me,
Fionna,
Fionna,
I don't know what I'm gonna do,
When I have to live a life without you,
Fionna,
Fionna,
Please don't leave me, your my girl,
Without you life's not worth living, it's just truly hell,
Please Gimme the lib-er-tyy,
To say you mean everything to me,
Please Gimme the lib-er-tyyy,
To say you… mean… everything.. to me.~
Marshall stopped singing and just broke down; tears showered Fionna's body as he let his emotions overwhelm him and just held tightly to the person he loved.
"Marshall"
Marshall carried on crying not bothering to answer the person who said his name.
"Marshall"
He carried on ignoring the voice.
"MARSHALL"
"WHAT! WHAT DO YOU WANT?" He yelled at Lumen who was being supported by Marceline. Lumen's wounds hadn't fully healed but he would live. He'd just now have a massive scar in his chest where Fionna had stabbed him.
"Let me see her" Lumen said, his voice was flat and still hinted that he was in a lot of pain.
"No"
"Marshall let me see her"
"Lump off light bulb… Leave me and Fi alone… if I hadn't listened to her and saved you she'd still be alive" He spat bitterly without hesitation at the Prince of shades. Lumen's face was filled with guilt and pain… somehow… Marshall only ended up feeling worse.
Silence filled the room.
"I might be able to bring her back"
Marshall looked up at Lumen who was staring back at him. His blue eyes looked so much like Finn and Fionna's it was painful for Marshall.
"How… Only Death has the power to return the dead. I could reanimate her corpse but it wouldn't be her would it now" Marshall was trying not to have any hope. Hope made you weak… it meant you could still feel pain and get hurt.
"When I killed what was left of the Lich… I got his powers… they mixed with mine… the Lich was evil so could only raise the evil dead due to him existing as a being of darkness. I am a being of light and dark and have the Lich's power…" Lumen didn't exactly sound certain of his powers but Marshall didn't care. He had hope… real hope… "Lumen can bring her back". Marshall laid down Fionna's body gently then grabbed Lumen by his clothes at his neck.
"Bring her back to me" was all Marshall said.
Lumen knelt down by Fionna's body and began to focus, his body pulsed with a white aura and his hair colour went fully white again. His hair even grew longer and began to wave in the air. Lumen's face began to twist up as if he was in pain and a white flame began to burn in his palms. He was about to press his hands to Fionna's body when a spark of black electricity raced over his body. He was sent flying across the platform and landed with a thud. Marceline and Marshall flew over to him.
"What happened Lumen?" one of them asked.
"The dead are not meant to be rose, The Lich broke the laws of nature every time he did it but he was undead so it didn't affect him. I'm not dead… so breaking the laws of nature to raise the dead could kill me…" He replied. Marshall grabbed him and then threw him back to the ground.
"SO THAT'S IT! YOU'RE GIVING UP!" Marshall yelled at the startled Prince.
"Marshall stop… I know you loved her but-" Marceline tried to speak and calm down the vampire.
"STOP! Screw you Marceline… you're meant to be me" Marshall said bitterly twisting the words Marceline had said earlier.
"Marshall she's right. Stop. I never said I would give up trying, if it costs me my life I will bring her back to you" Lumen managed to say while coughing for air. Marshall had winded him with what he had done.
"Lumen! You can't mean that you can't leave me!" Marceline said holding her hands to his face.
"You'd… give your life for hers…" Marshall asked Lumen.
"Of course, she would and did for me… I'm only here now because she made you give the tears to me first, I may have been bleeding out but my ears still worked. I will save her Marshall" Lumen turned to Marceline. "Marcy… I will never leave you but I have to do this… trust me… I love you…" Marceline froze… this was the first time either one of them had said the three words while not joking around.
Lumen got back up and walked over to Fionna's body. The two vampires watched as he charged up his power till he was glowing white. The black electricity spread over his body again obviously dealing him a lot of pain but he ignored it and pushed the white flames into Fionna's body. She immediately shot up and a white flash erupted out blinding everyone.
Marshall, once he had his sight back, raced over to Fionna and saw that she was now breathing and alive again but sleeping. He kissed her forehead then turned to thank Lumen. Lumen was no longer breathing. Marshall rushed to him and put his head against the Prince's chest trying to hear for a beating heart… Nothing. He started to push down on the Princes chest trying to restart his heart; he went faster and pumped harder till he heard a gasp for air from Lumen's lips. He shot back up and grabbed at his heart sweating all over.
"…If that's what not having a beating heart feels like I really don't get how you two manage" Lumen joked still struggling for air. Marceline floated over and hugged him while Marshall just chuckled. "Marceline… I can't breathe" Lumen managed to say to which Marceline let go of him.
"Don't ever do that again" She said to him. Her voice was completely serious and he couldn't avoid making eye contact with her.
"I won't"
"Promise me Lumen… No matter what… no matter who… never again"
"I Promise Marcy" The pair kissed passionately before hearing a cough behind them. They looked up to see Marshall grinning at them both. Lumen chuckled before noticing something on Marshall's hand.
"Marshall you got a tattoo?" The prince questioned. Marshall looked at his hand and saw an insignia of an axe on his hand. He started to rub it and was a tad annoyed when it didn't come off. Marceline looked at her hand to see a matching symbol. Lumen looked and saw that he had a shield insignia on his hand and all three looked over to the unconscious Fionna and saw she had a sword insignia on her hand.
"What's up with these weird little marks" Marshall questioned.
"Marshall Lee Abadeer of the Nightosphere, Trial Complete"
"Marceline Abadeer of the Nightosphere, Trial complete"
"Fionna Mertens, Princess of the Light, Trial Complete"
"Ivel Mertens of the Lll world, Trial Complete"
"Fionna Mertens, Princess of Light?" Marshall questioned.
"Mertens? I have the same name as Fionna" Lumen questioned.
"Nobody going to question where that voice is coming from" was all Marceline said before the four of them were bathed in light and disappeared. The world of Mmm, the land of music and soul was empty once again. The famed music box of passion sat broken and covered in blood. It was once the pride and joy of the tone people who danced upon it every night. The darkness came and corrupted the music forcing the people to choose. Kill your loved ones or sacrifice the music you love. Some of the people made themselves deaf to not kill the ones they loved but the people of Mmm lived for the sounds they loved and before long… they had all perished rather than live without the soul of music.
Fionna and Marshall ~Fiolee~ A Story of Love
In the land of Ooo when Finn was 15 a boy named Ivel arrived in the Shade Kingdom, he became their hope and over the next 2 years he slept. When he awoke he became Lumen Dusk, the Shade Prince. A year later he met the Heroes of Ooo and befriended them, eventually falling in love with the Vampire Queen named Marceline.
However, in the land of Aaa when Fionna was 15, no girl arrived to the Shade Kingdom, they had no hope and for 2 years the land fought in a vicious civil war. When Fionna was 17 the Shade Kingdom's last member, the second in command an elderly woman named Leadess passed away confirming that the Shade Kingdom had indeed fallen. A year later Fionna and her friends were dragged into a portal following a woman who resembled Marshall Lee's dead father. There she met her counterpart Finn and all of his friends; she also met a Prince of a kingdom that she'd never heard of, the Shade Kingdom. Fionna realised that a lot was different and the Gumball of their world, Bonnibel Bubblegum, explained that it was Lumen that separated their worlds. No one ever knew how far the changes affected but in the land of Aaa it led to a romance between two of the lands most popular and respected individuals. Fionna Mertens the Human, the Hero of Aaa and Marshall Lee Abadeer the Vampire King. This is the story of their love starting from the day that Lumen's counterpart didn't arrive in Aaa.
Fionna Mertens lay on the highest hill of the grasslands staring at the sky, the Cloud Kingdom had been having a party recently to celebrate… Fionna couldn't really even remember what it was but after their parties the sky was littered with clouds of different shapes and colours. Fionna loved this, she'd often come alone encouraging Cake to go to Lord M's, Fionna watched as a red sword cloud floated past and smiled. She pulled her green bag closer and rested her head on it. The temperature was perfect and the wind calm. She felt her eyelids grow heavy before falling into a deep sleep.
Fionna walked along the many chambers of her vault, over the last few years she had decided to organise it after the Shoka (Shoko's counterpart) incident in case she ever needed memories from here. She saw that one door was open so she walked in, it was a different version of her staring back at her, this Fionna was a couple of months younger than her, judging by the way she was shivering and covered in burns simultaneously. This was the Fionna that had just broken up with Flame Prince.
"You smile… you smile after what we did? You ruined EVERYTHING" the hurt Fionna cried at her.
"…I'm sorry you're hurting, but it gets better… burns heal and you will be okay… hurt but okay" Older Fionna hugged the younger version as she cried.
Younger Fionna suddenly froze and her eyes turned red.
"Fi WAKE UP! FI YOU NEED TO WAKE UP NOW!" Older Fionna started at the younger version of herself, that wasn't her voice but it was one she knew very well.
"FIONNA WAKE UP!" Marshall's voice rang through her mind.
Fionna opened her eyes to see Marshall Lee's head resting on her chest, she was about to throw him off her chest but after pressing her hands to his head she looked at them and saw them dripping red. She slid out from underneath him and only then could she see the reason for all the blood. Marshall's whole back and body was covered in deep wounds. His flannel shirt hung from his body with bit rips in it as blood continued to flow from his wounds. He was healing, Fionna could tell, but with so many wounds and so much blood it was slow. Fionna grabbed her bag and tore out her Cyclops tears. She ran to Marshall ripped off the remaining bits of his shirt and began to rub it into his wounds. It began to fizz and healed his wounds. He was still covered in many scars and would experience the effects of losing blood but Fionna knew he'd be okay; vampires have healing powers after all.
Fionna put her backpack on and hoisted Marshall over her shoulder. She noticed the sky was covered now in a thick dark cloud so he didn't need his umbrella at the moment, which was good as she then noticed it laying a few metres away torn to pieces; "What happened while I was asleep?" Fionna asked extremely bothered as to what had happened.
She carried her unconscious friend all the way back to the tree house. Her and Cake had started to do up the house to make it stronger and a better place for them to live. Gumball and Marshall had helped them make a basement, Fionna wanted to turn it into only a training room and a weapons room but Cake insisted they put in a safe to hold all their treasure and valuables and Fionna decided to add another bedroom down there just in case. It was there that she took Marshall. Marshall had loved the room as it was sound proofed and he'd basically laid claim to it being his room at the tree house since, as he constantly reminded the pair, he "owned the joint and could crash anytime". Neither had minded as it meant he'd stop floating above them while they slept and it meant it was somewhere they could go, train, jam and just spend time together without having to deal with Marshall's inability to go out in the sunlight. She grabbed some red apple juice from the mini-fridge he'd installed down there; he had literally made it his room with all the added features and then the girls were forced to install a second bathroom to stop him walking around the tree house almost nude.
Fionna went into his wardrobe and found him a change of clothes and was about to turn back but noticed a letter with her name on it. She leant in to get it when she heard him start to wake up behind her and decided to just leave it for now. She dropped the clothes on his bed and rushed to his side pulling a chair and sitting there till he opened his red eyes.
"Oh… hey Fi… what's with that frown I thought you'd be a bit happier after getting me into bed" he chuckled winking at her. He gasped in pain but tried to hide it.
"Marshy… I saw that… what happened? Why were you all torn up like that…?" Fionna started to cry. She remembered the time she had ditched Gumball to go to a party with Marshall and he faked his death. She couldn't forget the image of him bleeding. Marshall leant close and wiped away her tears.
"Promise you won't freak out if I tell you Fi?"
"Marshy I promise just tell me what happened?"
"Okay… I was heading to see you and I noticed that the clouds were all in shapes and stuff so I knew you'd be on your hill watching them so I headed there. The sky started to get darker and I didn't think anything of it but took down my umbrella. I saw you laying there asleep and was beginning to plan what prank I could pull on you when a knife storm started. One landed right next to your head and almost killed you. I didn't know what to do as if I did nothing you'd die and I couldn't carry you fast enough anywhere… you were on the hill in the middle of the grasslands for globs sake… so I turned into my large bat form… and I…-"
"You shield me… didn't you… it's my fault your all busted up and junk" Fionna's face was full of guilt and hurt. "It's my fault… it's my lumping fault that Marshy got hurt" She started to cry again and so Marshall pulled her close and got her to lay next to him in his arms. It was times like this that Marshall remembered under that thick stubborn adventuress exterior there was the heart and soul of a young girl. He decided to hum a little song to her to calm her down and decided on the lullaby that Simone once sung to him. (Youtube Wanderer's Lullaby – Beautiful song written and sung by Adriana Figueroa)
~Wandering child of the earth
Do you know just how much you're worth?
You have walked this path since your birth
You were destined for more
There are those who'll tell you you're wrong
They will try to silence your song
But right here is where you belong
So don't search anymore
You are the dawn of a new day that's waking
A masterpiece still in the making
The blue in an ocean of grey
You are right where you need to be
Poised to inspire and to succeed
You'll look back and you'll realize one day
In your eyes there is doubt
As you try to figure it out
But that's not what life is about
So have faith there's a way
Though the world may try to define you
It can't take the light that's inside you
So don't you dare try to hide
Let your fears fade away
You are the dawn of a new day that's waking
A masterpiece still in the making
The blue in an ocean of grey
You are right where you need to be
Poised to inspire and to succeed
You'll look back and you'll realize one day
You are the dawn of a new day that's waking
A masterpiece still in the making
The blue in an ocean of grey
You are right where you need to be
Poised to inspire and to succeed
Soon you'll finally find your own way.~
Marshall finished singing the lullaby and heard the soft and slow breathing that Fionna gave out in his arms. She'd stopped crying and fallen asleep in his arms. He was in a lot of pain and just holding her hurt a lot but he reached over her into his draw and took out a pouch of gold powder. He had kept this after the incident with Ashley. He would feel guilty for doing this to her… but the memory of what had happened would haunt her so he blew the dust on her and sprinkled some on himself. She would remember falling asleep on the hill and then Marshall, as the creep he can be, taking her to his bed and cuddling her… Cake would hate him more and Fi would be disappointed but as Simone once said when he was ill. "It'll be worth it."
A Year passes since that day, Marshall used the sleep dust that Ashley had used to try and make him forget about selling his Hambo to Majar the Sky Warlock. As expected Fionna flipped and punched him, it hurt so much given that he was still healing internally from the knife storm. Cake had literally kicked him out of the tree house into a mud puddle leaving the Vampire King caked in mud to float home knowing he had done something he shouldn't have to protect Fionna. He looked in his hands at the memory he had stolen from her… he'd give it back when she was mature enough to deal with the hurt he thought. In the year since then the Shade Kingdom of Aaa fell into a horrific and brutal civil war, with no pure leader who could wield both light and dark the people argued over who should take over. The light people felt the dark were trying to repress them and vice versa. Leadess had gone to the Candy Kingdom seeking the aid of the rumoured brilliant minded Prince Gumball but he had avoided the meeting sending his Peppermint Maid to say he was too busy 'saving his own kingdom'. In truth without the appearance of Lumen's counterpart Gumball was too occupied trying to find out what had happened to the Humans so Fionna no longer had to be alone.
In the markets of the Shade Kingdom sat a store that was caved in, it was a store that use to trade the most sought out items of the land from Candy sweets, to Marshall Lee's Albums to all sorts of wares from Wizard City. One particular item was a magic carpet, In Ooo this would be the magic carpet that Lumen learnt to fly on but in Aaa it was never to be. Instead a female with grey skin laugh viciously as she jumped on the carpet and took off towards a house in a cave.
"Soon Marshall… soon…"
Fionna was chilling in the tree house when Cake came home; she had just spent a week with Lord M and the kittens, she saw that Fionna hadn't cleaned up or done any of the washing… or anything really.
"Fi sugar would you mind explaining why our home is beginning to look like Magic Woman's trash joint" she started getting in the adventuress' face.
"Ha-ha Cake you know I don't clean or cook so I left it, though I found this rad dungeon that every time you go back it's different. One time it was slime monsters" Cake noticed green slime all over the place. "Then it was a chocolate beast" which explained to Cake why the floor was sticky, she had had enough already.
"Fi when are you gonna grow up and stop expecting me to baby you! I just spent a week with my own babies and I didn't expect to come home and have to baby over you to, your 16 start acting like it" Cake spat at her sister. She was extremely tired and had to deal with Cake Jr stealing the Baker's Shard aftermath.
"What the junk Cake? I'm grown up all I need to be" Fionna replied, she was extremely hurt by Cake's words and didn't know what to say.
"Your about as grown up as Gumball is blue, Your immature Fionna and I think it's time you stopped being so. I'm not gonna be around forever to look and clean up after you. Gumball's balls coming up soon I bet you haven't even thought about it have you? Nope cause that would require being mature" Cake held nothing back as she let out all of her frustration at her sister. Lord M had laughed of Cake Jr's antics and even blamed Cake for her criminal past with Tommy (Tiffany's counterpart) and the Lettuce Sisters.
"I am mature Cake but you don't believe me just watch. I'll prove to you I'm mature I'll see you at that ball and make you eat your words… you… you… FURBALL" Fionna screamed after grabbing her bag and running out of the house. She headed out and once out of site she just sat down and started crying. Cake had never spoken to her like that before… never… she started to cry harder so didn't hear him approach.
"Fi…" Fionna looked up to see a worried Marshall looking down on her. She immediately run into him arms and started crying. She told him everything about what Cake had said and how it felt to her. She wanted to prove Cake wrong but didn't know how to be mature and thought Cake was mean for saying what she said.
"Hmm I have an idea Fi" Marshall whispered. He threw Fionna onto his shoulders and against her many protests flew them both back to his cave.
"For the time being…" He smiled at her, "You can stay with me in my guest room."
"You have a guest room?" Fionna was very shocked to hear this.
"Well yeah after you guys made me one I figured I'd make you one back." Marshall pulled on a candleholder that hung from the wall and a stairway appeared at their feet. They headed down and Marshall revealed what he liked to call 'Fi-land'. It was a basement at least double if not triple the size of Fionna and Cakes. The walls were covered in a variety of weapons and scrolls on fighting positions. There was an assault course, obstacles and various ornaments used for training. At the end of the room there was another room that was a bedroom. He showed Fionna to it and smiled as her mouth remained open in shock. Marshall had even gone as far to decorate the room for Fionna with little sword and shields wallpaper, a bunny head poster bed and various cupboards and other junk. On the bedside table there was a photo of Fionna, Cake, Marshall and Gumball.
"I… I…"
"You hate it don't you… glob I'm so stupid" Marshall smacked his head against the wall and was about to do it again when Fionna's gaze met his.
"I Love it Marshall… it's perfect…" She couldn't stop smiling and jumped onto the bed, she sort of had expected it to be rock solid but it was extremely comfortable. Looking at the room and the lengths Marshall had went to she guessed he'd even brought a bed from the Cloud Kingdom because what looks more comfortable than clouds.
"Really you think that?" Marshall asked almost scared of her answer.
"Of course… the only thing that would make it better was if you said you'd decked out the wardrobes with rad clothes I could change into" She chuckled to herself at it then looked at him standing uncomfortably… "Oh my glob he even went that far" She jumped up and ran to the closest but found him stopping her.
"What Marshy? I wanna see what you got me?"
"Let me pick… please… just this once?" He asked in the most sincere voice she'd ever heard. She sat back and let him pick. Oddly enough he picked out everything from shoes to accessories. She kicked him out while she changed before stepping out to see his face drop.
"What do you think Marshy?" She asked.
Marshall had picked out a dress that ran all the way to her ankles; it was plain black apart from the red bow and ribbon that ran around her waist. Her golden blonde hair was out of her bunny hat and instead she wore a simple white bunny eared headband. Her hair ran all the way down her waist and rested just below the bow. He had picked out a cute pair of red trainers that matched the dress and were comfortable. He'd also picked out two black wristbands for her to wear and he had even left out a little red stud for her to put in. She smiled as he had nothing to say so she walked over to the mirror in what she had started to call her dojo. She herself was left a little speechless at her appearance. She looked amazing; she hadn't expected it to look so pretty since she found it to be quite comfortable unlike the dresses Cake made for her. She gave a twirl in the mirror then smiled at Marshall who seemed to have finally found his voice.
"Fi… You look beautiful". Fionna blushed so hard that her cheeks now matched the colour of her bow, part of her was surprised Marshall hadn't sucked the red out of it before.
"Thank you" She beamed back at him. She ran up and hugged him and felt his arms around her.
CRASH
The two stared at the stairs after hearing a noise above. They both ran up the stairs to see who it was and were greeted by a furious looking Ashley riding on a magic carpet.
"Wow Marshall. Wow. Here I am making the effort to come take your pathetic self… back as my boyfriend and you've already pimped up the little blonde MORTAL" Ashley spat out the word as if it was poison.
"Ashley LEAVE" was all Marshall said bringing silence to the room.
"Leave? Leave? That's all you've told me the last 6 months I come here every day giving you chance after chance to come back to me and look how ungrateful you are. And now… you've shacked up with HER to hurt me. Real low… real low…"
"Marshall", Fionna whispered to him.
"She's been bothering you for that long, dude why didn't you tell me I'm your bro I could have helped you deal with her" She whispered again. Unfortunately for Fionna Ashley could also hear what she said.
"Deal with her? DEAL WITH HER? OH… OH… YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH ME ALRIGHT" Ashley flew into the room kicking Marshall in the face; she grabbed at Fionna's now free hair and began to drag her from the room and into the sky. Marshall came to quickly and flew after them as fast as he could. The magic carpet was fast but he was slowly gaining on it.
"FIONNA, SLAM YOUR BRACELETS TOGETHER" Marshall screamed at her as he tried to catch up. She did as he said and was amazed when the bracelets turned into leather gauntlets with swords coming out either side. It was as if she had swords growing from her hands. She knew she couldn't reach Ashley with them so she did what she thought was the only way to stop the pain and free herself. She stretched the blades above her hair and chopped her hair off leaving her with a roughly shoulder length amount of hair. She fell and landed in Marshall's arms as Ashley screamed realising what she'd done. Marshall began to carry Fionna back and watched as Ashley kept shooting lightning at the pair. Marshall decided to try and shoot some back and managed to hit her. He thought he had done it when he froze in mid-air. He saw Ashley still smoking from the lightning hover in front of him waving her wand. Ashley pointed her two fingers at Fionna's head and began to charge lightning.
"You may be able to take my powers but the HUMAN won't be able to" She began to laugh evilly and kept charging her powers up. Marshall felt the paralysis start to fade and just as Ashley unleashed her power Marshall turned and sheltered Fionna. The lightning ripped to holes in his neck as he started to bleed and fall. Ashley face lit up with shock as she realised what she'd done.
Marshall and Fionna began to fall to the ground, Fionna was crying as Marshall bled out and the two fell more and more…
… just as they were nearing the ground Ashley flew near them and screamed at Fionna.
"GIVE HIM TO ME; HE DOESN'T HAVE TO DIE WITH YOU". Fionna grabbed her out stretched arm and pulled them both onto it simultaneously kicking Ashley off and into a lake of freezing water. Fionna stopped the carpet and watched as she didn't resurface. She flew her and Marshall back to his house and bandaged up his wound. Somehow she had used all her Cyclops tears a year before but never understood why.
She put Marshall into bed and began trying to fix the front of his house. She did quite a good job as Marshall slept. He started to murmur in his sleep so Fionna thought he was doing alright.
She was putting his tools away when she noticed a small box. The label was 'Fionna's Memory' she opened it and saw a bubble with her and Marshall in it. She felt like it belonged to her so went to pick it up but as soon as she touched it… it 'sunk' into her and she remembered the time that Marshall had taken from her. She remembered how hurt he was… how he had shielded her… how he had almost died… it had happened again. She started to cry and ran back up to Marshall still holding the box. He was awake but sat at the end of his bed just wearing his black jeans. He looked up and saw the box in her hands.
"Fi… Fi I can explain why I-"
She cut across him and just hugged him.
"Thank you" she whispered in his arms. Marshall realised something then, she was alright mature compared to that day.
Over the next year Fionna had lived at Marshalls, she had turned up to the Ball wearing one of the dresses he brought for her, with her shorter hair and much more graceful self. Marshall had taught her to slow dance and dance… respectfully. He had given her speech lessons so she could rival any royalty in speech. He also taught her a lot about the world. Cake did indeed have to 'eat her words' and apologise, she was happy she'd made up with Fionna but a little sad to know that Fionna wanted to live at Marshalls. The pair had got the rest of her belongings from the tree house and moved it into the dojo/bedroom under the house. Marshall built a second entrance so Fionna could come and go without having to enter the cave/house first. When Marshall's mother had given her the Angel Wing Sword and they learnt it gave her wings and the power to fly Marshall had given her flying lessons and build an aerial obstacle course on the roof of the cave. In that year the pair grew a lot closer but neither was willing to take the step further.
It wouldn't be till Fionna was a few months away from becoming 18 that the pair admitted their feelings. It was at Marshall's mum's… funeral. Marshall's mum had got a disease that ate away at her the more she felt love. Ever since the time Fionna had brought her to Aaa to cheer up Marshall… his mum had been on her way to death. In Ooo when Hunson had visited Lumen to seek a cure for the vampire sunlight curse Lumen had displayed the holy light to him showing he was genuine. Unbeknown to them both that day Lumen had cured Hunson of the exact same disease. Marshall's mum wasn't as lucky. She was buried not far from Marshall's cave and Marshall got one of his vampire friends to take over the Nightosphere under his observation. He attended her ceremony with Fionna and on the way home he had broken down. He had lost his dad, he had lost Simone and now he had lost his last real family member.
"Marshall… Marshall listen to me" Fionna said holding his head in her hands.
"Look at me Marshy" his red puffy eyes met her beautiful blue ones.
"You have lost so many people I know that but believe me when I say this, I will never leave you… you can lean on me if you need me and if you need to cry I can be there to give you feel better hugs. I won't leave you"
"Fi how can you promise that… look at me… everyone who loves me dies" he choked out.
"I'm not dead Marshall"
"Didn't you hear me…? I said everyone who loves me dies"
"I do Love you Marshall."
"What…"
"Marshall I Love you"
"Since when?"
"I don't know but I love you Marshall Lee Abadeer and that's why I can promise you… I will never leave you" She said in a serious voice. Thanks to Marshall's weird life lessons Fionna had grown even more mature being able to deal with emotions she couldn't before.
"I Love you too Fi" She leant in and kissed him. A kiss he returned and the two let their lips just touch and embrace for a time no one could count. It was their first kiss.
Taa daa :) I've been waiting to explain that for a while now. Lumen's Magic Carpet was the same as the one Ashley stole, she could steal it because of the Second Shade Civil War. Fionna was on that Hill because she didn't get a mission of Gumball, when Lumen had turned up Bubblegum didn't feel the need to find more humans so kept working on her immortality potion so called Finn and Jake to the Candy Kingdom to help her get the parts, they avoided the Knife Storm. All these small changes that happened due to Lumen are why Aaa and Ooo are different now, there are more but i hope you enjoyed it so far :) please leave a favourite, a follow or a review and tell me what you think and thanks for reading.
