Chapter 106
Jestery Punch
Jestery Arcana was not amused. In most situations, this was seen as… alright. Sure, both of her mothers 'preferred' if she took out her frustrations through sparring with one of her many grandparents or one of the more skilled Lady Knights. Heck, they had even got her a new box of all-white crayons because she finally finished off her previous box. Which was quite some time ago.
But this was on a whole different level. If we had known that such an event was going to occur, we would've given express warning to everyone's favorite character. But how the fuck was one supposed to guess someone would use the world of dreams as a way to keep the near entire digidestined population for the sake of preventing them from growing up?
In her 'small' (well, by her standards) bedroom, she took the time to smash her hands into one of the pillows. While I have no clue how much they could possibly be a small fortune. Or perhaps they purposefully fill this room with cheap stuff. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Even has a nice big bed, perfect for a couple. Especially a technical princess and her husband.
"Cora!" Jestery announced, ballroom gown giving way to a more 'formal' business suit. Then it's right back to the tried and true paint-splattered jumpsuit and oversized court jester hat. As that 'transformation' ran its course, her daughter entered stage left. Or right.
"Yes, mom?" Cora muttered, taking the time to curtsey for her 'mother'. Even if it did work out the other way around back in the day. Damn. Has it really been that long? Must be. Gaze shifting to Jestery's outfit, a deep breath followed. "Uh… did something happen?"
Jestery nodded. After things being so peaceful for what seemed like forever, to have such a disrespectful entity barge on in like they somehow owned this particular portion was just uncalled for.
"Some bitch is using our home for her own gain." Jestery muttered, what looked to be a set of butterfly swords coming out. A little sad those are no longer quite the art project they used to be. Hanging them to their side, her gaze turns to the sky, "Grandma, are you there?"
Yes I am, Jestery. Sachiko is currently out getting groceries. Is there anything else you would like explained for the moment?
Silence. Fair enough. I didn't think I would start my day off dealing with this. But that's how life goes. Especially as a portal opens up before our duo. I get that this is a major emergency and all, but chill. This mystery person will still be there once you're done all the preparations and stuff.
"Anyone else you want to bring?" Cora inquired, taking the opportunity to change outfits as well.
Jestery shook her head. Kind of surprised you're not bringing your husband with you. Especially after how little he showed up at the end of this mess.
"Kain is busy actually doing the work Jestery should be doing." Cora continued and let out a sigh. Which I turn, got a chuckle from her mother. It's not really that funny though. If anything, you're being a dick.
"I'm aware of that." Jestery answered, taking a deep breath. Giving the ceiling just one more look, she heads for the portal. Cora is right behind, grabbing hold as the jester came to a stop. "Cora ready for this?"
A nod, the pair passing through. Gone was the petticoated empire of Branaka, in its place an endless void of colors and shapes. Made the people who were sitting about all the more confusing.
"Who goes there?" a voice screeched, echoing about the endless abyss we find ourselves in for the moment.
"Jestery..." Jestery announced, letting go of her daughter's hand and shooting forward. Cora was right behind, leaving little to actually look over. Not that you could here. Even when someone did actually live here, there wasn't much. No, the sets for the abridged movies don't count. That's something completely different.
Pulling her fist back, Jestery slowed down slightly. Her target was quickly coming into view - a woman. Looked to be in her late thirties, maybe even early forties. Dressed all fancy in her skirtsuit, she looks kind of like that Maki chick. Hey. Remember her? Because Toei sure as fuck didn't. Sort of like the Sora clone thing. Since a retelling of Adventure is happening, do you think we can get that expanded? Sorry. I just had to let that out. It's one of the many dumb plots we went chasing. Damn. I feel really old.
"What a strange name." the voice continued, not even looking towards the incoming woman. No, her attention was on all the people she had ensnared from the danger of 'adulthood' and all its 'horrors'. Yes, really. Is this Digimon or fucking Codename: Kids Next Door? Please, don't answer that. "Become a ki-"
Before she could finish her sentence, Jestery's fist smashed into her face.
"Punch!" Jestery announced, coming to a stop a little bit after that. Her target fell over, landing face first on the translucent surface of this world. Cora was right behind, landing quite gracefully in the process. "That's for making things more difficult for everyone!"
Just for further salt in this strange wound, Jestery kicked the woman in the groin. Serves her right. Even if that does seem a little mild. But the effect was clear - the people disappearing from the world of dreams. Just the woman remained. Pathetic, frustrated and at a loss. Her whole world thrown up into the air.
"Let's head home, dear." Jestery remarked and turned to her opponent. "I get that you wish to protect them from this truly awful entity. But there are better ways to go about this. Life needs to go on. It can seem counterintuitive and an uphill challenge, but a time will come that the world will be ready."
With that, the pair make their exit.
Notes:
I needed to get that out of my system ever since reading the spoilers. Yes, it's absolutely extreme to punch a character. But considering that I was expecting them to just die... It works out.
