A little something in place of what I was originally going to do, brought on by the reboot's insistence on not going into these goober's backstories.

Chapter 115

Chosen of Friendship

Yamato Ishida wasn't sure why he was gifted a talking wolf with a unicorn horn. But when the promise of the safety of his brother is on the line, he would do just about anything they would ask.

Okay, that's what he told people at least. In truth, he hadn't got a clue what the heck was happening. He was just going off the conspiracy theories he had heard online.

"You think your dad would be okay with me staying with you a bit longer?" Gabumon announced and got an eye roll from the boy. It wasn't his fault that he didn't know some way to send the wolf digimon back. Even if he did know the magic words or the arcane ritual, what good would it do? Gabumon would probably reappear in some spectacular fashion. No real use in play with factors well beyond his control and have it blow up in his face.

"I don't think my dad has even realized anything has even gone on." Yamato answered and let out a deep breath. How the heck was he going to explain that in the first place? To start off, Gabumon was far too big to pass off as a stuffed animal. Even if he could, that would imply he had either stolen it or had come into a huge heap of money and used it to buy this strange wolf lizard unicorn thing. Neither of those outcomes were anywhere close to the truth. Which also left the question of where he had been when that nuke was heading right towards Tokyo. A question that was as hard if not harder to answer than that of Gabumon. "Though, I think he probably wouldn't mind."

Looking away from his partner and to the far side of the room, the chosen child of friendship let out a deep breath. TK was supposed to visit today. But due to a variety of factors, that had fallen through. Felt like the norm as of late. One reason or another, TK would be unable to come visit him. Yamato wasn't one to believe in superstitions (unless it was online), but there was something fishy going on. Why else would his father dodge any questions on why his brother couldn't come over or why he was banned from going to see him? Heck, sometimes he would hear shouting from the kitchen for hours on end,

But there was one small bright spot in this cloud of disappointment - that strange boy with spiky hair and the goggles. Even while stuck in his negative state, they had managed to snap him out of it. Heck, he almost felt happy in the few moments spent with him. Yamato wasn't sure why. This boy looked and acted like an utter jackass. Under no other circumstances would he have actually worked with him. Let alone save Tokyo from World War 3. In that moment, he pushed those feelings aside.

"Yamato?"

Turning around, the chosen child's gaze returned to his partner. Sooner or later he would need to explain to Gabumon his situation. The wolf digimon did have some grasp on families. He had to have someone in his life that mattered.

"Yes, Gabumon?" he remarked, Gabumon wrapping his arms around him. Accepting the gesture, Yamato pulled the wolf digimon in. "Thanks."

Gabumon nodded, making sure to not poke his partner with his horn. Sooner or later something would come up and they would need to react. Right now, he just wanted to feel the warmth of Yamato in his arms just a little bit longer.
