"How you doing, Agent Ward?" Coulson asked, after he and Kayla had gone into the crypt.

"Wishing I was shorter, like some people. Nothing yet. All my readings are normal" Ward told them.

"What about you, Kayla? Any luck?" Coulson inquired.

"I'm lucky my S.O. volunteered to take the super-creepy hallway instead of the slightly less-creepy dungeon-room place. I got nothing" Kayla exclaimed.

"Ward, your spectrograph is reading something near you" Fitz stated.

"I don't see anything" Ward replied.

"Well, it's right in front of you. Oh, wait. No. Uh, okay, hold on. It's moving. Northwest" Fitz explained.

"Visual contact" Ward announced, as he started running in the direction.

"Okay Ward, turn left" Futz told him.

"I have a wonderful explanation" Randolph said, as Ward pushed him into a wall.

"Ran into some unexpected…" Ward trailed off when he touched the staff, suddenly crying out in agony and dropping to the floor.

"Ward, what's happening?" Coulson asked, concerned.

"His device just went down" Fitz exclaimed.

"Kayla, can you get-" Coulson was cut off.

"Already on it" Kayla replied, as she anxiously ran down the corridor.

She soon spotted Ward on the floor, and instantly ran to his side.

"Ward. Are you all right? Hey, hey, hey. Whoa, whoa" Kayla told him as he shot up, breathing heavily, eyes frantically searching the room.

"Grant, calm down. Okay, calm down" Kayla exclaimed, as she gripped onto his arm, the rare use of his first name bringing him back.

"The staff...he has it. It's gone…there's something wrong with Ward" Kayla told them.

"C'mon, let's get you out of here" Kayla exclaimed, as she put her arm around him and helped him up.

"This is ridiculous" Ward stated.

"It's anything but. Ward, you passed out. And you were acting not right" Kayla exclaimed, obviously concerned.

"Coulson ordered me to give you a full work-up, and that's exactly what I'm doing. Um, before you lost consciousness, were you feeling claustrophobic?" Simmons asked.

"Why?" Ward inquired.

"She's ruling out a panic attack" Fitz replied.

"I don't panic. Ever" Ward insisted.

"There we go. Ruled out" Simmons murmured.

"Touching the staff caused it, right?" Skye asked.

"Any residual effects? Are you exhibiting any extra strength?" Simmons questioned.

"Why don't I find out on that guy?" Ward stated.

"Why don't we not do that?" Skye told him.

"What's the last thing you remember before you lost consciousness?" Fitz asked.

"This is a waste of time" Ward said angrily, as he pulled his arm out of the machine that was monitoring him.

"We need to find the staff!" Ward insisted.

"What exactly do you remember?" Fitz repeated.

"Something I hadn't thought about in a long time" Ward admitted.

"Why don't we just leave it alone?" Kayla asked.

"Well, I mean, he just pulled his arm out of this…" Simmons whispered.

"Quiet! I want to hear this" Ward told them, as he increased the volume on the CCTV from the holding cell.

They watched it for a minute, before Simmons turned the feed off.

"What are you doing?" Ward asked.

"Your heart rate's rising. Adrenaline's spiking. You need to calm down, not get worked up" Simmons explained, as Ward took a deep breath.

"The memory...was it about your brother?" Skye questioned.

"Drop it" Ward whispered.

"Skye, I wouldn't-" Kayla was cut off by Skye raising her hand.

"Ward, if you need to get it out, I am here…" Skye trailed off.

"Right. To talk. Because that's what you do...talk...and talk. Don't you ever get tired of hearing your own voice?" Ward said, angrily.

"Hey, back off!" Kayla exclaimed, sticking up for her friend.

"Ward, stop" Fitz said, putting a hand on his shoulder, making Ward flinch.

"Well! This makes more sense. Ward, what you're experiencing, this feeling...it's chemistry" Simmons told them.

"I hope so" Skye added.

"Yeah, spikes in his adrenocorticotropic hormone. It's like those stories you hear when a mother is able to lift a car to save her baby. An adrenaline surge can create a massive-" Simmons was cut off by Ward.

"Stop talking! Just fix it!" He insisted.

"I wish I could. We can relieve some of the symptoms. I'm going to give you 10cc of benzodiazepine" Simmons explained.

"Chill pill. Good idea" Skye murmured.

"Skye" Kayla warned, not wanting Ward to have another outburst.

"A sedative? Not gonna happen" Ward exclaimed.

"Yeah, well, be reasonable. Look how you're behaving" Fitz announced.

"And if I'm sedated and we cross paths with those juiced freaks, the ones who flip cars and smash people up, are you gonna take them on? Keep us safe? Or am I gonna have to save Simmons' ass... again?" Ward said menacingly before grabbing his shirt and leaving the room.

"That was just a biochemical reaction. He didn't mean all that" Simmons told them.

"No, I know" Skye replied.

"No explanation necessary" Fitz added.

"I think maybe we should just let him be by himself for now" Kayla suggested.

"Agreed" The others said.

Kayla later found Ward in the cargo hold, pummeling the punching bag.

"Ward?" She softly called out, trying not to alarm him.

"What?" He snapped back.

"I don't think this is helping" She stated, as she walked closer.

"Well it's the only thing I can do" He exclaimed.

"How long have you been hitting this thing?" Kayla questioned.

"A few hours" He replied, not stopping.

"A few hours?! Ward, stop!" She told him, stepping beside him.

"No" He gritted out, punching the bag harder.

"Ward!" She shouted, grabbing his wrists, as he quickly turned to face her.

She was worried for a second that he might hit her, but as soon as their eyes locked he instantly seemed to calm down.

"You need to calm down" She insisted.

"How can I calm down when those guys are out there? What if they hurt someone else?" Ward retorted.

"Not everything is your responsibility, you know" Kayla told him, letting her hands drop from his wrists.

"Yes, it is" Ward replied, before he stomped up the stairs.

Author's Notes: I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter! Sorry that I took quite a bit of dialogue from Skye to Kayla, but I really didn't know what else to say. Also the look Skye and Ward gave each other in episode 2x18...oh my God, I died a little. Yep, I still ship Skyeward a bit, sorry. Please leave a review:)
