The next morning Ward had been woken up by May, and decided to shower. He didn't know why, but for some reason he felt dirty. He had rubbed at his skin until it was red, but still he felt dirty. This had never happened before, so what had changed? It didn't take long to realize that it was Kayla that had changed things. This was supposed to be a way to get her out of his head, not make him think about her more.
"We have a mission" May called out from the bedroom.
Ward quickly turned the shower off and put a towel around his torso, then put on his best smug face and entered the room.
"Any specifics?" Ward inquired.
"No" May replied.
"Well, we should follow the same plan as before. Take separate routes back, stagger our timing so no one suspects-" Ward was cut off by the door slamming and couldn't help but shake his head with a smile.
Of course May would never been someone who would stay the morning after. He figured Kayla would, there would probably be pillow talk and everything. No, he needed to stop thinking like that. He quickly got changed and packed his stuff, and then came face to face with Kayla, her hand raised in the air as she was about to knock.
"Kayla…um, what are you doing here?" Ward asked.
"I was looking for May…is she…?" Kayla questioned.
"Uh, no…this is…it's not what it looks like" Ward stuttered, feeling himself blush.
"Sure" Kayla stated, as she turned and walked away.
Ward instantly felt his heart clench. Was she mad at him for sleeping with May? Did this mean she liked him?
Kayla had quickly walked back to the Bus, not wanting to bump into Ward or May on the way and sat down on the hood of one of the vehicles.
"Hey Kayla, are you alright?" Simmons asked, as she and Fitz walked over to her.
"Hm? Oh yeah, I'm fine" Kayla replied.
"Have you heard what the mission's about?" Fitz said, in excitement.
"Not got a clue" Kayla stated.
"Telekinesis!" Simmons exclaimed.
"You mean someone else might have my ability?" Kayla questioned.
"Yes! You two could even be related or something!" Simmons suggested.
"I certainly hope not" Kayla grumbled.
"Are you sure you're alright? We thought you'd be more excited?" Fitz admitted.
"Yeah, I'm good. Just a bit tired that's all" Kayla shrugged, as Coulson and Skye walked down the stairs.
"Sir, the department of energy's declared the particle acceleration lab too dangerous to enter" Simmons informed him.
"But the good news is, we still think we can retrieve the disaster-event data from the instruments. We'll determine the cause and see if there's any correlation between telekinesis spontaneously forming and a particle accelerator exploding" Fitz explained.
"Well, it does use giant magnets to fire billions of subatomic particles into their anti-particles at the speed of light to create miniature big bangs, so...seems like a good place to start" Coulson replied, earning looks from all the team.
"I read" He said in defense.
"I'll try not to mention big bangs when we talk to Hutchins about the explosion" Skye exclaimed.
"You'll stay in the car. This is a delicate situation. We don't know what kind of danger this woman poses, so I'll make initial contact with Agents Ward and May" Coulson told them, making Kayla roll her eyes.
"Wheels up in five. Better strap in" May informed them from above.
"It's a delicate situation, so you're bringing along warm and fuzzy?" Kayla scoffed, but Coulson simply ignored her comment.
"Hey guys" Ward stated, as he walked onto the plane.
Kayla instantly looked away from him, while he started to walk towards her.
"You're late" May exclaimed from above.
Sighing, Ward deciding to change his course and walked into the lab to ask FitzSimmons about the mission, as Kayla glared at his back.
"Hey, you okay?" Skye inquired.
"Oh my God, I'm fine! Can everyone stop asking me that?" Kayla retorted, getting up from the car and stomping off to her bunk.
"What's got into her?" Skye questioned Ward.
"Uh, I've got no idea" Ward said, shrugging.
They soon flew to the place that the woman with telekinesis powers was and got into one of the cars and drove to her house. It was a tight squeeze, because while May and Coulson were in the front, Skye, Kayla and Ward had been squished into the back.
"And then, the cat jumped into the wall…oh my God Kayla, you should have seen it" Skye said, giggling, as she talked about the cat videos she had been watching on YouTube.
"Sounds fascinating" Kayla replied.
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed" Skye grumbled.
"Yeah, don't think I was the only one" Kayla exclaimed, earning a glare from Ward and a confused look from Skye.
Suddenly the car went over a speed bump, jerking them all forward, making Ward grabbed onto Kayla's knee for support so he didn't hit his head on the headrest. Kayla quickly elbowed his arm away from her before he could even react, which definitely caught Skye's attention.
"Alright, we're here. May you keep the civilians in order, while I talk to Miss Hutchins with Ward and Kayla as back up" Coulson explained, as he got out of the car.
"Wait, what about me?" Skye exclaimed.
"You stay" Coulson ordered her.
"Seriously?" Skye whined.
"Now who's grumpy" Kayla said, with a small smirk as she got out of the car.
"Officer, is there anything you can do to get these people to disperse?" Coulson questioned, as he walked up to the woman who was being guarded by a police officer.
"Been trying, but it's a free country" The officer retorted.
"Miss Hutchins, I'm Agent Coulson. We specialize in strange occurrences like the ones you've encountered" Coulson informed her.
"You've come to lock me up?" She asked.
"To talk" Ward exclaimed, as he walked up to the porch.
"What good will that do?" The woman questioned, clearly upset.
Instantly, an egg was pelted towards her, barely missing her and angry shouts from the residents started to be heard, as they came closer.
"Officers, get those people back" Ward ordered them.
Suddenly a car's engine started to rev and started speeding towards the crowd.
"Kayla!" Ward shouted, as she was in the line of sight of the car.
He quickly pulled her back, bringing her close to his chest as the car drove into a fence. After a moment, Kayla pulled back from his arms, looking away from him.
"Easy, officer. Put the gun down" Ward exclaimed, when one of the officers pointed his gun near the woman.
"Leave me alone" The woman cried.
"Miss Hutchins, please calm down" Coulson told her.
"It wasn't me" She insisted.
"Please calm down. We're not going to let anyone hurt you" Coulson exclaimed.
The next second the woman fell to the ground after being shot by May's night-night gun.
"Time to go" She stated.
"So much for the welcome wagon" Coulson sighed.
