"He thinks it's hell, but I think it's an alien world" Simmons explained, as they walked through the corridors.
"Well, there were reports in London after the spaceship landed of multiple portals opening, Thor passing between worlds" Fitz suggested.
"You think that's what they were researching at that lab?" Ward inquired.
"Trying to create another portal, yes" Simmons replied.
"Failing until a malfunction produced a burst of energy" Fitz realized.
"This "ghost" is a man trapped between our universe and another. Perhaps that's how all ghosts are. It's a simple explanation, really" Simmons exclaimed.
"Simple would be a relative term in this case" Ward stated, as he opened the door to the room they were looking for.
"Bloody hell" Fitz sighed, as they saw the cables had been tampered with.
"He was thorough" Simmons added.
Suddenly there was a bang from the end of the corridor, making them all jump.
"Plane's on uneven ground. Could just be settling" Ward suggested.
"Or the other thing" Fitz exclaimed.
"Get to work" Ward told them.
"I think I'm going to go with you" Kayla said, as she followed Ward down the corridor.
"Kara, no it's too-" He was quickly cut off my Kayla.
"To be honest, I think I'd feel safer being around the guy with a gun" Kayla stated.
They both continued down the corridor and found nothing.
"Clear" Ward called out, when abruptly they heard FitzSimmons shouting for help.
Before the pair could get to them, a man jumped out, shoving Ward into a wall then dematerializing when Ward tried to hit him.
"Guessing that's our ghost then" Kayla exclaimed.
He then appeared again, getting jabbed in the throat by Ward and pushed into a wall. The man quickly regained his balance, and grabbed Ward by the throat, trying to strangle him.
"Get off of him!" Kayla shouted, raising a hand which moved a piece of dislodged pipe at the man, making him lose his balance.
They then could hear FitzSimmons screaming again and ran towards them, wrenching the door open. Suddenly the man appeared behind Ward and hit him over the back of the head, knocking him out.
"Ward!" Kayla screamed as she rushed to his side.
"C'mon help me get him in here!" Kayla exclaimed, as she and FitzSimmons pulled him into the closet and then locked the door.
Kayla then pulled Ward's head onto her lap, trying to make him as comfortable as possible.
"Will he be okay?" Kayla asked.
"Yeah, he might just have a concussion when he wakes up" Simmons replied.
They then got a call from May asking what was happening.
"He's disappearing between worlds. It seems a little less of him appears each time" Fitz explained, while Kayla slowly ran her fingers through Ward's hair.
"But why is he after you guys?" May inquired.
"Because he can't get to Hannah in there, she's safe, if we wait it out maybe he'll disappear fully" Simmons suggested, as May hung up.
Soon Ward started to wake up, breathing in deeply.
"Hey, it's okay. It's alright" Kayla soothed, as Ward looked around, confused.
"What happened?" Ward asked.
"We lost communication and you were hit by a very large wrench" Simmons told him, as Kayla helped him up, her hands hovering at his shoulders.
"A wrench? That guys travelling back and forward between worlds…with a wrench" Ward questioned.
"Must have been in his hand when the blast hit" Fitz suggested.
"Not the sort of wrench you would use to loosen a coupling is it?" Ward asking, rubbing the back of his head.
They then heard a noise from the walkie talkie and realized it was Coulson and Skye trying to get in contact with them.
"Yes sir, we're here. Where did you go?" Ward inquired.
"Nowhere, we were attacked, locked in, then the guy disappeared" Coulson explained.
"That's what happened to us too" Fitz exclaimed.
"Is May with you?" Skye asked.
"She isn't with you?" Simmons questioned.
It didn't take long for the group to find May in a barn with Hannah, who she was trying to use as bait. They quickly realized that a man named Tobias was the person who really loosened the couplings, so that he could spend more time with Hannah, because he had a crush on her. Kayla was surprised with how May dealt with the situation, for once actually showing some emotion and so eventually Tobias let Hannah go, meaning that he disappeared.
Later, Kayla was helping Hannah into Skye's bunk and placed a duvet over her, then closed the door.
"Is she alright?" Ward asked, approaching her.
"Yeah, I think so" Kayla replied.
"So…I saw you used your telekinesis today, did it hurt?" Ward questioned.
"Not really, guess it must have been the adrenaline" Kayla explained.
"Well thank you, you probably saved my life" Ward admitted.
"That's alright" Kayla said with a small smile.
Suddenly, Kayla leant forward and wrapped her arms around Ward's neck, pulling him into a hug.
"Don't worry me like that again" Kayla stated.
"What do you mean?" Ward asked, as he slowly wrapped his arms around her waist.
"When he hit you, I thought you might be dead" She explained.
"It takes a lot more than the likes of him to kill me" Ward exclaimed.
"Well it better, because I don't want to have the trouble of finding a new S.O" Kayla joked.
"At 08-00 hours, three men infiltrated the Havenworth federal penitentiary" Coulson explained, after he had brought them in for a mission briefing.
"Infiltrated? More like cannonballed" Skye exclaimed.
"They were in and out in less then two minutes. Left no prints at the scene, but we do have one lead…Centipede. Seems they salvaged some of their research from Hong Kong" Coulson told them.
"So we were right. Chan's platelets solved their combustion problem .Now they can create super soldiers with no fear of explosion" Simmons said, gleefully.
"Maybe don't get so excited about it" Fitz scolded her.
"Two of Centipede's labs have been destroyed, but they keep popping back up. Now they have at least three of these guys, maybe more" Coulson continued.
"Who did they break out?" May inquired.
"Edison Po, former Marine, expert in tactics and rapid response. He fell off the grid in '08, reappeared 18 months ago at a diner in Boston" Coulson explained.
"Where he stabbed a friend's eyes out" Ward added.
"Nice" Kayla sighed.
"With a steak knife, then finished his meal" Coulson exclaimed.
"That's funny. Po doesn't look crazy...I'm kidding. The guy is a walking mug shot" Skye joked.
"Which means he shouldn't be too hard to track down. Finding Po and these Centipede soldiers is a top priority for S.H.I.E.L.D. We'll be running point, but we won't be working alone" Coulson explained.
"What team did HQ send for backup?" Ward inquired.
"Not a team...a person, someone who can help us fight fire with fire" Coulson told them.
"Somebody we worked with before?" Skye asked.
"Not exactly" Coulson replied.
"So who exactly is this Mike guy?" Kayla questioned, after Coulson briefed them.
"Not someone who can be trusted" Ward stated.
"That's not true…he was just have some problems" Skye insisted.
"Didn't he kidnap you?" Kayla asked.
"As I said he had some problems…but I'm sure they're fixed now" Skye told them.
"It's not good. At all. The guy was a ticking time bomb...literally" Ward insisted.
"HQ wouldn't have sent him if he was still combustible. They must have found a way to stabilize him somehow" Fitz explained.
"They stabilize his attitude? Because he was pretty hostile in Union Station" Ward stated.
"To be fair, you're pretty hostile too" Kayla exclaimed, getting a glare from Ward.
"…But when you get to know you, you find out you're an adorable little teddy bear" Kayla said, pinching Ward's cheek.
"And, it's not like we haven't opened up our doors to other people...people with questionable track records" Simmons explained.
"Low blow" Kayla stated.
"Not cool, but true. And don't worry about Mike. He's a good guy" Skye insisted.
"Who's been in the Centipede program" Simmons added.
"Exactly. He can give us some superpower backup" Skye suggested, giving Kayla a sideways glance.
"…So I haven't got my telekinesis under control just yet…I'm getting there" Kayla stuttered.
"Exactly and just saying, this could easily go sideways. I mean, the last time we saw this guy, he was a raging homicidal maniac…" Ward trailed off when he saw the looks behind him.
"He's standing right behind me isn't he?" Ward asked, getting a nod from Kayla.
"Mr. Peterson, this is Agent Grant Ward. He's the man who shot you at Union -Simmons designed the weapon he used, and I think you remember-" Coulson was eagerly cut off by Skye.
"Kidnap victim" Skye stated.
"You joined S.H.I.E.L.D.?" He questioned.
"Yeah. Turns out, guys in suits…not so bad" Skye explained.
"Um, hello and Miss Invisible over here?" Kayla stated.
"Oh and this is Kayla, she has telekinesis" Coulson told him.
"Telekinesis? Wow, can you move that mug?" Mike asked.
"Uh…I'm not exactly at full strength so…" Kayla trailed off.
"She's getting there" Ward said, backing her up.
"Look, I know Union Station could have gone another way. Another team might not have let me out of there alive. I owe you…all off you" Mike explained.
"That's bygones and water under a distant bridge far away" Skye grinned, getting a nudge from Kayla to shut up.
"How's your son?" Skye asked, changing the subject.
"Still with my sister. He thinks I'm working construction, but he's good, happy" Mike told her.
