They soon got geared up for the mission, as Kayla walked to Ward's bunk.
"Hey" She stated, opening his door.
"Are you ever going to knock?" Ward asked, pretending to be annoyed.
"Not likely" She replied.
She saw that he was having trouble doing his tie, and walked over to help him tie the knot.
"So you and May are going undercover, huh?" Kayla exclaimed.
"I don't have feelings for her, you know" Ward said, as she looked up at him.
"Well good, because we wouldn't want that compromising the mission, would we?" Kayla suggested.
A moment later, the bunk door was opened, revealing May who was watching the two with an unamused look. She noticed how close they were standing to each other, Kayla's hands still on Ward's chest.
"You look lovely, May" Kayla told her, genuinely surprised how pretty May looked with a bit of make up on.
"Thanks" May grunted, looking at how the pair still hadn't moved away from each other.
"Well, uh, I hope everything goes well and you two stay out of danger and all that…not saying that you would get in any danger, because hello, you guys are like badass agents and everything…" Kayla trailed off, backing out of the bunk.
"What's up with her?" May asked, suspiciously, as Ward just shrugged.
"Are you nervous?" Fitz asked, as the three of them sat on the train.
"Just ready for this all to be over. I'm ready to get Quinn" Skye replied.
"Me, too" Fitz exclaimed.
"Yeah, he sounds like a total asshole" Kayla added.
"So, are we British or American?" Fitz asked.
"Does that matter?" Skye inquired.
"Well, we're traveling together. We should at least be from the same country. How's your Scottish accent?" Fitz questioned.
"I don't know. You tell me how great it is, laddie" Skye said, imitating the worst Scottish accent Kayla or Fitz had ever heard.
"Aw, I wanted to use my Scottish accent" Kayla sighed, putting it on anyway.
"That's not half bad" Fitz said, shocked.
"Alright, stop bonding over your British-ness" Skye insisted.
"Well we'll use American, then. That's a better idea" Fitz suggested, putting on his American accent.
"Oh. That was really good" Skye grinned.
"I used to watch a lot of American TV growing up. Some of it's quite good. Lots of nice teeth" Fitz explained.
"Yeah, oh do you remember Saturday morning T.V?" Kayla questioned.
"Those were the days" Fitz said, reminiscing.
"Oh. Here we go. Follow my lead. Excuse me! Do you speak English?" Skye inquired.
"Of course. How may I be of service?" The conductor questioned.
"Can you recommend a restaurant in downtown Zagreb?" Skye requested, the conductor.
"Someplace affordable, with big portions" Fitz added.
"You are looking for something romantic?" The conductor asked, eyeing Kayla with a confused expression.
"Yes. Please. We are celebrating our six-month anniversary with a whirlwind trip all over Europe. Ah. - Well, technically, we met six months ago, but he didn't ask me out till last month, so our official one-month anniversary isn't until next Saturday" Skye explained.
"Uh, they had an extra ticket so I'm third wheeling" Kayla shrugged.
"I think he found me intimidating" Skye said, grabbing the conductor's keys.
"Young love. So...confusing" The conductor suggested.
"Is it?" Skye questioned.
They soon set up in the room that they were able to get into with the conductors keys, getting their laptops ready.
"You, uh, got a little flustered back there" Skye grinned.
"What? When you kissed me on the cheek like my grandmother? Good going. Really selling our relationship there" Fitz retorted.
"Oh, would you have preferred tongue?" Kayla laughed.
"No! I-that's not what I'm saying…" He trailed off, blushing.
"I have a device that could have done those things...broken the lock and all that" Fitz admitted.
"What? Why wouldn't you tell me that?" Skye inquired.
"I'm always the gadget guy. Maybe sometimes I want to do things with my bare hands" Fitz explained.
"You make the gadgets with your bare hands" Skye insisted.
"Just allow me these rare moments of self-pity, okay? You're the least supportive pretend girlfriend I've ever had" Fitz stated, making Kayla laugh.
Meanwhile, May and Ward had found their way to their room and were changing into their other clothes.
"That looks cozy" Ward grinned, as May revealed the body suit she was wearing.
"Once I've located the package, I'll let you know where to place the tracker" May told him.
"Seem like things are getting personal?" Ward asked, noticing the way that May tensed.
"I'm talking about our operations. Look, I know Coulson was put through hell, but...he hasn't been the same since. I don't know what he said to Skye, but I've noticed she's different" Ward explained.
"How so?" May questioned.
"Driven, focused. And she was holed up for days trying to track down Quinn. It feels like Coulson's got her on a warpath. Seems personal" Ward continued.
"It is personal. The Clairvoyant had him tortured. Quinn's the only person we know who's connected to all this" May retorted.
"We both know personal urges can adversely affect tactical decisions" Ward exclaimed.
"Hm. That's why I don't have any. You should do the same" May told him.
"What does that mean?" Ward asked.
"I'm just hoping that your feelings for anyone, don't get in the way of the missions" May explained.
"Really? Anyway, you think Coulson will take that excuse if he finds out about us?" Ward inquired.
"Took it okay when I told him" May stated, climbing at the window.
"Wait. You told him?" Ward questioned, surprised.
"Yep" May replied.
"I wish we had more time to take in the scenery...can take in the views of the famous Tre cime di Lavaredo. Three peaks of Lavaredo...supposed to be stunning" Fitz announced.
"We're not here for sightseeing, Fitz" Kayla stated.
"Any chance what's in there could be an 0-8-4?" Skye asked, Kayla knowing why.
"This? Now, we may not know what it is, but we do know that it came from Cybertek" Fitz told her.
"Right. Unknown origin. And the one we found in Peru was a machine, but they don't always have to be, right?" Skye inquired.
No. No, I've read about all kinds...weapons, spacecraft, energy sources. I suppose the only thing they really do have in common is that they're dangerous" Fitz explained.
"Thanks, Fitz!" Kayla cried, holding her hand to her chest.
"In a…good way?" Fitz replied, looking for the right words.
"Sorry, but hey, whatever this package turns out to be, we'll deal with it, like we always do. We've faced worse and made it through" Fitz insisted.
"Fitz, have you ever heard of an 0-8-4 being a person other than Kayla?" Skye questioned.
"No. Although I...I suppose it's possible. Hate to meet the guy" Fitz exclaimed.
"I'm sure, if there was another person like me they'd be pretty cool" Kayla said, giving Skye as small wink.
"Whoa. May's goggles are offline. When did that happen? May, do you copy?" Fitz asked.
"All comms and phones are dead. Someone's using some sort of electronic scrambler" Skye suggested.
"Cybertek knows we're here" Fitz realised.
"This is bad, real bad" Kayla sighed.
"We have to warn our team…Fitz, get down!" Skye cried, when a man with a gun walked into the room.
Fitz tried shooting at him, but kept missing. While he was distracted, Skye through a heap of boxes at him, but the man quickly through her to the ground. Kayla then moved from where she was hiding, approaching the man with an icer in her hand. The man then took out what looked like a grenade.
"We've been made! Oh, bloody hell" Simmons sighed, when she entered the room.
She then charged at the man and shielded the others from the explosion with her own body, and both she and the man fell to the floor when a purple mist erupted.
"Jemma!" Fitz shouted.
"Oh my god...She's okay" Skye said, checking her pulse.
"Okay. Hold her up. There we go. I think this is some form of dendrotoxin" Fitz explained, looking at the weapon.
"The same stuff that's in the night-night gun?" Skye asked.
"Yeah. It's clearly evolved. I think they made it airborne" Fitz announced.
"Is that why their eyes are open?" Skye questioned.
"I suppose if they were in some sort of black sleep, that would make sense" Fitz replied, closing Simmons's eyes.
"Thanks, Simmons" Kayla said, squeezing her hand.
"We got to get out of here, find the others and figure out what to do next" Skye insisted.
"Yeah, but help me move Simmons first. Can't just leave her like this. Look at her little face. She'd be so embarrassed" Fitz said, making Kayla's heart clench because he was being so damn cute.
"We should leave her with something to protect herself, just in case" Skye suggested.
"Yeah. Have a spare" Fitz said, placing it in Simmons hand.
"What about him?" Skye inquired.
They then heaved him into a crate and Fitz shot him twice with a night-night gun.
"That's for Simmons" He stated, making Kayla wonder just how much he really liked Simmons.
"Train's stopped" Fitz realised, as they heard the brakes.
"I know. And I looked everywhere. May, Ward, and Coulson are gone" Skye told them.
"What about Cybertek?" Fitz asked, as they heard vehicles approaching outside and looked through a nearby window.
"They have the package, Fitz" Skye exclaimed.
"What do we do? We're the only ones left" Fitz questioned.
"Do you have an extra tracker?" Skye inquired.
"Of course" Fitz replied.
"Then we follow them" Skye stated.
"This is not going to end well, is it?" Kayla sighed.
