They had been searching for the Clairvoyant for a while now and had managed to get names down to three people, and decided to team people off to find them. This was Skye's job, and to do this she had to become a S.H.I.E.L.D agent.
Kara was in the lab with FitzSimmons when May came in and informed them of the news.
"Skye's been made an Agent" She told them, a hint of pride in her voice.
"That's brilliant!" FitzSimmons chorused.
"I thought you'd want to be there to congratulate her" May explained.
They all followed May up the stairs, but Kayla couldn't help but feel slightly sad, knowing that Skye was becoming an Agent and she wasn't. She knew it was bad of her, but she couldn't really help it.
"I told them to come up" May announced, as they approached everyone.
"I…I don't know what to say…thank you" Skye told Coulson.
"Don't thank me. You've passed every required S.H.I.E.L.D. exam with flying colors" Coulson admitted.
"For a level 1 Agent" Hand added.
"You've assisted us on multiple field missions, put your life on the line. You earned this" Coulson told her.
"Hell...you took two in the gut. More than Sitwell here's ever done" Garrett joked.
Okay, everyone. Back to work" Coulson informed them.
"Congratulations, Skye" Simmons squealed, hugging her.
"Congratulations" Fitz stated, hugging her as well.
"I knew you could do it. You deserve this" Kayla told her, as she too pulled her into a hug.
"Thank you. God, I can't believe this" Skye laughed, as she followed FitzSimmons.
"So how do you feel about all this?" Ward asked Kayla.
"It's great. This is the sort of thing Skye's always wanted" Kayla exclaimed.
"You sure you don't feel even a little resentful?" Ward questioned.
"Nope" Kayla shrugged.
"Well you're allowed to be, you know" Ward told her.
"I'm sure my time will come someday" Kayla stated.
"Some things are meant to be and some things just aren't…but I think I know something that is meant to be" Ward suggested, a small smile on his face as Kayla realised what he meant.
"Besides even if you never become an agent, you don't need some stupid badge to tell you if you're worthy or not" Ward explained.
"Oh really? Then what do I need to tell if I'm worthy or not?" Kayla grinned.
"Me, and I'm going to tell you every day just how great you are" Ward smiled.
"I think I can live with that" Kayla joked, as Ward pulled her into a tight hug, his chin resting on his shoulder.
Meanwhile, from across the room Garrett was looking at the pair with a frown.
Kayla was walking through the corridor a little while later, when Skye called out to her.
"Hey Kayla, could you do the last couple of people on the list? All you have to do is explain to them how to use the phone, you don't need any clearance or anything like that" Skye asked.
"And where are you going to be?" Kayla inquired.
"Loo break. I've been holding it for hours" Skye whispered.
"Oh dear God. Go, go, I've got this" Kayla laughed, as she walked into the room where Skye was giving out the phones.
"Let's see, whose left? Garrett and…Ward" Kayla said, with a smirk as there was a knock on the door.
"Isn't Skye supposed to be doing this?" Ward questioned, as he sat down opposite her.
"Emergency break, don't ask. Okay, on this phone, you will find a set of coordinates that'll lead you to one of the three potential Clairvoyants that Skye has chosen. When you're within a mile, your partner will be granted access to the candidate's name and profile on their own phone and before you ask Ward, I don't know who your partner will be" Kayla explained.
"Hand taken you off this mission as well?" Ward asked.
"Yep, I don't think she's trusts me a lot" Kayla stated.
"Hey, you'll be back to full health really soon and then Hand won't have any argument against you" Ward smiled, putting his hand over hers, as she smiled back.
"Not interrupting anything am I?" Garrett inquired, as he entered the room.
"No Sir" Ward nodded, as he quickly stood up to leave.
He cast one last look at Kayla before closing the door, as Garrett sat down. She didn't really like the way Ward acted whenever Garrett was around, which made her distrustful of the man.
"Okay, on this phone, you will find a set of coordinates that'll lead you to one of the three potential Clairvoyants that Skye chose. When you're within a mile, your partner will be granted access to the candidate's name and profile on their own phone. Make sense?" Kayla said, giving Garrett the same spiel as earlier.
"You know, we haven't officially met. John Garrett" He stated, shaking her hand.
"Yep I got kidnapped and then was unconscious when you were around so…" Kayla trailed off.
"How are you feeling?" Garrett questioned.
"Fine" Kayla replied.
"I've been shot a couple times myself...back, shoulder. Had my throat cut once. But you know the toughest one? Thing about a third-degree burn...the burn itself doesn't hurt at all. Crazy, right? The nerve endings get all fried. But the area around the burn? That smarts. Still, can't imagine what getting shot in the head must feel like" Garrett explained.
"Yeah, it's definitely strange" Kayla exclaimed.
"And I've got to say, apart from the healing, the telekinesis thing you can do is pretty amazing. It run in the family or something?" Garrett inquired.
"I wouldn't know" Kayla shrugged.
"You've never really had contact with them? Not even a little?" Garrett insisted, as Kayla decided to change the subject, not liking how interested he seemed to be in her family.
"Nope. Look I know what you did for Skye, how you risked your life to save her. So thank you" Kayla told him, even though she had been a bit suspicious of why he would risk his life for someone he didn't even know.
"You've got a good team around you. I just jumped on the bandwagon" Garrett said, deflecting it.
"Well, you trained one of them" Kayla replied.
"Guess it all comes full circle. Ward's your S.O., I was his. Turn, turn, turn. But this S.O. thing goes both ways. You've had a big impact on him. He's different than I remember him" Garrett admitted.
"You don't sound that happy about it" Kayla retorted.
"No, I'm just saying the tough thing about being a specialist is being alone. A team gives you a whole new perspective. Guess it's the difference between fighting against something and fighting for something. Or someone. Ward's got that now" Garrett told her.
"Thanks for this" Garrett said, standing up as Kayla nodded.
Author's Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! Literally from the first moment Garrett said anything I knew there was something wrong with him, and when we learnt about Hydra I just knew he was involved, so I think Kayla would quickly catch on too. Also just thought I would state if I do get to season 3 with writing this, Kayla will definitely keep calling Skye...well her name, because that's what she's called her ever since they were kids, so it wouldn't make sense for her suddenly to call her Daisy, I hope you guys understand. Please leave a review:)
