"Koenig?" Kayla called out, when she entered the room he was in earlier, but there was no sight of him.

"You did it" Ward exclaimed, from behind her.

"God, Ward. You scared me" She said, shoving him playfully.

"Koenig said you managed to hack the NSA" He smiled down at her.

"Yeah, it looks that way. Where did he go?" She inquired.

"He's sending everything over to NATO, CIA, Interpol. Guess he hopes they'll take it as a sign of good faith from S.H.I.E.L.D" Ward explained.

"Smart. Though, looks like all I got was lots of views of an empty rooftop" Kayla sighed.

"May's gone" Ward announced.

"What do you mean "gone"? Gone where?" Kayla questioned.

"She left. I'm sure if I asked where, she wouldn't have told me" Ward told her.

"Wow. So, no goodbye? Not even to Coulson? Did she even care about any of us?" Kayla accused.

"That was her mission" Ward retorted.

"There are more important things than missions" Kayla exclaimed.

"Did you feel anything for her?" Kayla asked, after a moment.

"No. The only comfort we took in each other was knowing we didn't have to" Ward shook his head.

"You can't choose to feel" Kayla suggested.

"Usually, I can. It's different with us" He admitted.

"What do you mean?" Kayla inquired.

"I like you Kayla…and…" He trailed off.

"C'mon, let's go have that talk" Kayla exclaimed, pulling him to sit on the couch.

"Specialists don't spend time with a lot of people. The ones we do, we're all cut from the same cloth. Trained to get the job done, keep emotions in check. But you...you're different" Ward started off.

"Is that a bad thing?" Kayla asked.

"Bad for me…and you. I didn't want to think about you. I wanted to stay focused. That's the whole reason me and May…well you know" Ward explained, as Kayla nodded.

"But then when you went missing, I thought…I don't know, something just clicked I guess. But this… I'm Kevlar. You're not" Ward told her.

"You don't have to be. You don't have to shut people out. Not anymore" She exclaimed.

"Yeah, I do. There are things about me...that you wouldn't like, if you knew" Ward said, a sad smile on his face.

"I'm no saint, Ward. I've killed people" She retorted.

"It's different. You're...good" Ward continued.

"And you don't think you are? Ward, you're good, I know you are" She insisted.

"Not always. I lied to you" He sighed, as Kayla bit her lip, worried about what he might say.

"I…My older brother...he didn't beat up my younger brother. He was crueler than that. He made me do it. And I let him. I was afraid of him" Ward admitted, as he watched Kayla's face take on a pained look.

"What about your parents?" She questioned.

"They were worse" He stated.

"Ward, it's not your fault. You were just a kid" Kayla insisted.

"I am not a good man, Kayla. I never have been…and even now…I'm sorry…" He stuttered, not making sense.

"Hey. Yes, you are" She told him, as she moved to sit next to him.

She then cupped his face and stared longingly into his eyes. A moment later, Ward's hand went to the back of her neck and pressed their lips together. This kiss was more desperate than the others, needier. After a while, Kayla moved from her uncomfortable position so that she could straddle his hips, as Ward pulled her closer. He then pulled away and started to kiss his way down the hollow of her throat, not missing the way she pulled on his hair. When he nipped her neck, just below her ear she let out a low moan and then pushed him onto his back, pulling him in for another kiss. When they had to pull away for air, she started sucking on his neck as his hands tangled their way into her hair. Suddenly she pulled away with a frown and started to look at her finger, which Ward could see had blood on it.

"Are you hurt?" She inquired, obviously worried.

"Uh, one of my...one of my cuts must have just opened up" He exclaimed, as she pulled herself off of him.

"Let me help" Kayla stated, but he quickly pushed her hands away.

"No, no, no, no. No. I just need to clean up" Ward stuttered, as he practically fell out of the room, worrying Kayla.

Ward had quickly rushed to a nearby sink and started to wipe away the blood behind his ear, trying not to panic. It had been such a rookie mistake. He should have made sure his appearance was fine before going to look for her. And that kiss…It was all becoming too much for him. He was feeling things he had never felt before, he didn't think he should feel. He had been so close to telling her the truth about Garrett and HYDRA before she moved over to him. He hated lying to her, but he knew she would hate him if she knew the truth and he didn't know how to cope with her hating him. Garrett was right, she really was his weakness.

Meanwhile, Kayla was sitting on Koenig's desk, still waiting for Ward to come back. She still hadn't had the chance to ask him about what had been bothering her about him and Garrett. With a loud sigh, she jumped off Koenig's desk and picked up the tablet he had covered up earlier and saw where Koenig was.

"Ah, there you are" She exclaimed, figuring she would see if he had sent off the pictures yet.

She soon found her way to a large closet, which the tablet was telling her Koenig was in. Frowning, she opened the door and saw a coin fall to the floor.

"What the…" She trailed off.

She remembered back to when she had been in care and she would put something like a coin on top of her door, to make sure nobody had come into her room to steal her stuff. Why would Koenig be worried about someone coming into this closet?

"Koenig? You in here?" She called out.

She kept walking through the closet but couldn't find anything.

"Koenig?" She repeated.

She stopped when she saw she was supposed to be right on top of Koenig, and figured that the tablet must have been broken. Suddenly two drips of what looked like blood fell onto the tablet, making her look up. She let out a horrified gasp when she saw Koenig's body above her, blood all around his neck. She quickly climbed up to see if she could do anything, and checked his pulse. There was nothing. She looked closer at his neck and could see that there was a line going around his whole neck, which was still leaking blood. By now she was starting to freak out. Somebody had murdered Koenig. She looked down at the tablet, seeing only her and Ward showing up when it hit her.

"Ward…" She trailed off, when she realised he was the only one who could have done it.
