"So, are we off to Portland?" Kayla asked, after they got in the air.
"Actually, Fitz thinks the 0-8-4 plasma ray we found in Peru might help" Ward explained.
"Didn't we jettison that to the sun?" Kayla questioned.
"Yeah, but Fitz has the specs on it" Ward told her.
"On the hard drive…You need me to decrypt the hard drive" Kayla realised.
That must be the reason that he was keeping her alive, she thought to herself. God, she had even given him the damn thing because she thought it would safer in his hands.
"The team does. And since it's coupled to specific coordinates, Kayla...you're in charge. Where to next?" He inquired, as Kayla smiled at him, realising she could use this to her advantage.
She lied and said that they needed to go to the place were Skye had met Mike Peterson, because she figured it would seem logical for Skye to use that.
"Alright, the plane's on autopilot. I'm going to get some rest, you coming?" Ward questioned, standing up.
"No, I'm good" She replied.
"You should sleep" He insisted.
"I think I'm too worried about everything to sleep" She admitted.
"Hey, we're all going to get through this, okay? Everything will work out in the end" He told her, before leaning in for a chaste kiss and walking out.
Kayla let out a breath she hadn't realised she'd been holding once the door shut. It was so tiring having to pretend she didn't know, she had to analyze everything she said and did, because she knew he would. After about 20 minutes, she could feel herself starting to nod off, when it hit her. She could look for the SAT phone now while Ward was asleep.
An hour later she sat down in the kitchen with a sigh, she had found nothing. No communications at all.
"Oh no" She exclaimed, when she realised that the SAT phone would be with Ward.
Steeling herself up, she walked over to his bunk and opened the door, stopping for a second. He was curled up on the bed, a frown on his face. It was strange to see someone as tall as Ward curling in on himself. She started to wonder if this was how Ward usually slept. She then shook her head, forcing any pity from her mind. She crept forward and looked over Ward's body until she saw the phone in his butt pocket. This was not going to be easy, she thought to herself. She reached over and tried to tug it out, but Ward started to stir. Realising he would think it was odd that she was trying to get the phone, she crawled over him into the bed, and figured she'd have to say that she wanted to sleep.
"Were you touching my butt?" Ward inquired, in a sleepy voice.
"In your dreams" Kayla responded, making Ward chuckle lightly.
She had been pretending to sleep for about 20 minutes before she heard Ward stir. She had perfected a way of pretending to be asleep over the years and it seemed to work. Ward had turned onto his side to face her, and didn't move for a few minutes. He then reached out to stroke her face, but she couldn't stop herself from flinching away at the sudden movement.
"I guess your subconscious knows you should hate me" She heard Ward sigh and leave the room.
She waited a minute before she opened her eyes and rolled onto her back. Ward thought that she would hate him when she found out he was Hydra…did she? She wasn't sure. She just wanted to get out, get somewhere safe. But she knew she couldn't, she had to bide her time and wait for a chance to escape.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team had been looking over surveillance footage to try and figure out why Ward and Kayla had taken the Bus and left.
"Play it again" Skye exclaimed.
"Skye, we've played it again and again. Nothing's going to change" Fitz explained.
"Play it again" Skye repeated.
"Maybe you should eat something Skye" Simmons suggested.
"No, I need to figure out where Kayla's gone" Skye insisted.
"But-" Simmons was quickly cut off by Skye.
"Again" Skye stated.
With a sigh, Fitz played the recording of Kayla and Ward getting onto the Bus when Skye suddenly shouted to stop.
"Zoom in!" Skye told him.
"What? What is it?" Coulson questioned.
"When we were younger, we made this sort of sign language so we could tell each other what was going on if we weren't allowed to talk. Look at Kayla's hand" Skye explained.
She had her four fingers out, but had curled her thumb in.
"What does it mean?" Simmons asked.
"S.O.S" Skye replied, worry evident on her face.
"…She knew you'd see the footage" Coulson realised.
"She's in trouble" Skye told them.
"From what? Hydra?" Fitz inquired.
"Why would she hide it? Ward didn't seem to know…unless…" Tripp exclaimed.
"No, don't even start that" Fitz retorted.
"Fitz, it's a possibility" Coulson suggested.
"No, Ward would never hurt Kayla. It must mean something else" Fitz insisted, walking out the room.
He walked along the corridors, deciding he needed to cool off when he stopped outside one of the bathrooms. He frowned when he saw one of the mirrors had been smashed. When he looked closer he could see that someone had punched the mirror, blood coated on the smashed pieces. He turned to see that the screen in the room was wrong, it was night when it should have been day. When he looked closer he found a screwdriver was stuck in the corner and gave a tug to pull it out. When the photo moved to next slide, he let out a gasp when he saw the words 'Ward is Hydra'. Then came Simmons loud scream.
Author's Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! So everyone's found out about Ward now, we'll just have to wait for Ward himself to figure it out. I've come up with a great storyline for season 3, and even though I've only got to writing 2x06, I'm going to write the idea down so I don't forget like I did for this finale. Please leave a review:)
