"I feel sorry for you...betraying the only people who ever cared about you. I know what you did to FitzSimmons" Kayla explained.

"You think I'm evil?" Ward questioned.

"You'd have to have a mind of your own for that to be true" Kayla stated.

"Garrett's not brainwashing me" Ward retorted.

"He's been brainwashing you since the first day you met him. How can you not see that?" Kayla asked.

"I'm not going to blame Garrett for my actions" Ward told her.

"No…but you are going to follow him like a good little soldier" Kayla accused.

"Not quite. You woke up a weakness inside me. And for the first time in a while, I wanted something for myself" Ward admitted.

"I'm not afraid of you, Ward" Kayla said, as they both moved closer to each other, until they were standing right next to each other.

"You have no reason to be" Ward clarified, as he lowered the gun.

"Whatever game you're playing, it's not going to work" Kayla insisted.

"I'm not playing a game. I've made my decision" Ward proclaimed, as Kayla noticed May had entered the room, unbeknown to Ward.

"You said you had made your decision a long time ago" Kayla retorted.

"I've realised something, I don't have to choose between you and Garrett. Because I choose me" Ward explained.

"You're going to be loyal to yourself…?" Kayla trailed off, obviously confused.

"I have to betray someone, and I won't chose either of you. I chose me" Ward exclaimed, as he clasped Kayla's hand and placed the gun in it.

"I don't understand" She stated.

"Kill me" He told her, as he raised her hand so the gun touched his chest.

"What?! I'm not going to shoot you, Ward!" She exclaimed, and she could see this had even thrown May off.

"Why not? You know I deserve it" Ward insisted.

"I'm not a murderer" Kayla reasoned.

"It wouldn't be murder. It would be a mercy killing. John's going to kill me if I don't bring you back with me, and that's not something that I'm prepared to do. And trust me, he'll find a much more gruesome way of killing me" Ward ranted, as May got closer.

"No, I won't do it" Kayla maintained.

"Please Kayla, please do this for me" He pleaded.

"No. Why can't you just own up to your crimes? Live with your punishment?" Kayla questioned.

"It would be kinder to kill me. I don't want to rot away in some cell…I guess I really am a coward" Ward admitted.

"You're not a coward, Ward. You're just scared. It's okay to be scared" Kayla tried to convince him.

"No, it's not. It's a weakness. I-I don't want to be-I can't be weak!" Ward insisted.

"This is my decision…I'm sorry" She repeated, as she stepped away, lowering the gun.

Before Ward could say anything else, May suddenly ran at him, pushing him off his feet. Ward tried to get up but his leg was too weak. May then started to kick him repeatedly in the stomach. Ward kept trying to get up, but he was far too weak from his injuries he had already received.

"May, stop" Kayla told her, grimacing at the scene.

May didn't seem to listen and continued to kick him harder, until Ward had curled himself into a ball.

"May, that's enough" Kayla went on, but still got no response.

May stopped momentarily, as Ward went to sit up a hand trying to shield him. Instantly, May kicked him in the throat, making Ward clutch at it, as he choked.

"Stop it!" Kayla shouted, as she sent May flying onto the floor with her telekinesis.

She then pulled out her icer and shot Ward twice, as he fell to the floor.

"What the hell?" May asked, standing up.

"You were taking it too far" Kayla retorted, as she walked out of the room.

"You got a chance to express all your feelings?" Coulson inquired, as Ward was brought towards him by May.

"Is he still breathing?" May asked.

"Guess she kept some of it to herself" Coulson grinned.

"He's having trouble speaking. I think I fractured his larynx" May smirked.

"Oh, good. Your attempt to cross off Fitz and Simmons failed, but Fitz may never be the same again. So I'm going to invent new ways to ruin the rest of your life. And we'll do whatever's necessary to get Hydra intel from you, but your torture...that's gonna be internal" Coulson explained.

"And a little bit external" May added.

"Sure. Some of that" Coulson replied.

If Ward could he would have rolled his eyes at that, did they honestly think they could torture information out of him?

"But you devoted your entire life to a deranged narcissist who never gave a damn about anyone, and now he's dead. You've got the rest of your life to wrestle with the question...who are you without him?" Coulson questioned.

Who was he without Garrett…that was a good question, Ward thought to himself.

They had be flown to coordinates that Coulson had been given, now that Fury had announced Coulson as the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. As the ramp went down they saw Simmons waiting for them. Skye and Kayla quickly ran to her, all three girl's hugging each other, however Simmons seemed to give a cold shoulder to Kayla, refusing to look at her.

"Fitz...is he okay? Please tell me he's okay" Skye begged.

"He's alive" Simmons stated, obviously upset.

"What is this place?" May asked.

"First thing I found in that box was these coordinates. Another secret base?" Coulson inquired.

"I call it the Playground, although, technically, it doesn't have a name because, technically, it doesn't exist, it being a secret base and all" A man who looked exactly like Koenig did, announced as he walked towards them.

Kayla had to look away from the man's face, it was like seeing a ghost. She felt responsible in some ways for Koenig's death, if she had figured things out sooner, maybe she would have been able to save him.

"Eric?" Skye questioned.

"Billy...Koenig, agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., although I totally understand the confusion. Eric passed away, sadly, but it's great to have company, finally, and I did not mind minding this place" He explained.

"Agent Coulson" Coulson exclaimed.

"I know. I know. And it is an honor to meet you, sir! I'll get your lanyard shortly. For the rest of you, lanyards will be handed out on a case-by-case basis. Can't be too careful with all those Hydra threats still out there, causing trouble. That's why we're here...get you up and running and back fighting the good fight, which is gonna be cool. I know we don't have much, but what we have is yours, sir" Koenig told them.

"Thank you" Coulson replied.

"So...where would you like to start?" Koenig queried.
