"You're not going to believe what they've done!" Kayla exclaimed as she marched into the labs.

"What?" Fitz asked, looking at different pieces of metal.

"They've given me a psychiatrist! I mean who do they think they are" Kayla steamed.

"Maybe it's a…uh…it's a…a good thing" Fitz replied.

"A good thing? I don't need a shrink" Kayla retorted.

"Maybe you do. You haven't been able to talk about…uh everything" Fitz explained.

"Yeah but I don't want to talk to a complete stranger" Kayla insisted.

"I don't think you have a…a uh…" Fitz trailed off.

"A choice? Ugh, I guess you're right. Thanks, Fitz. Meltdown successfully stopped" Kayla stated, earning a small smile from Fitz.

"What's going on in there?" She inquired, when she saw Skye, Tripp and Mack in the other room.

"I don't know, they're avoiding me again" Fitz sighed.

"Well go barge in on them. This is your lab, not theirs" Kayla told him.

"Yeah, yeah okay" Fitz said, as he stood up and walked towards them, with Kayla following.

"Think he can handle it?" They heard Tripp question.

"I don't know, why don't you ask him?" Mack asked, when he saw them.

"Hey Fitz" Skye announced.

"Hey, what's up man?" Trip queried.

"How are you feeling?" Skye asked.

"So that's the, um... that's the..." Fitz trailed off.

"Cloaking, in all its glory. You know, you weren't that far off. Check out the transmitter coil" Mack stated.

"Yeah, to negate the...the resonant...the... the...the resonant...? No, um... the, uh..." Fitz stuttered, confusing himself.

"I-It's okay. Just take your time" Skye tried to sooth.

"Uh, what he's trying to say is there's an audio component to cloaking that inverts sound waves, too" Mack explained.

"Like noise-canceling headphones?" Trip inquired.

"Yeah, same concept. You think you can give me a hand with this?" Mack suggested.

Um, u-under the circumstances, uh...well, the trick is you would...n...the trick...the trick would be in the meta-materials. Uh, oh! Yeah, but you'd have to alter the, um...Uh..." Fitz said, putting his hand to his head.

"Fitz, it-" Skye was quickly cut off by Fitz.

"Yeah, could everyone just stop talking for one second?...No, sorry. Gonna have to go" Fitz exclaimed, as he walked out of the room.

"Wow, real smooth you guys" Kayla announced, running off behind Fitz.

"Fitz, hey, stop" Kayla proclaimed, placing her hand on his shoulder.

"I…I saw the way they look at me…they…they think I'm…" Fitz trailed off.

"Oh, Fitz. It's okay, everything's okay" Kayla insisted, as she pulled him into a hug, which he quickly returned.

"Do you think I'll get better?" Fitz questioned.

"I know you will. You're a fighter" Kayla told him, rubbing his back.

Kayla had tried to get Coulson to allow her to go on a mission to capture Creel, but once again Coulson denied this. He stated that she wasn't needed for the mission, which only fueled her anger as always. She missed feeling like part of the team. And she knew whose fault it was.

"This is your fault! Ugh, you're not even on the damn team and you're ruining my life" Kayla exclaimed, as she walked down the stairs in Vault D.

Ward looked up at her groggily, as she realised he had been sleeping when she came in.

"It's not fair, I haven't done anything wrong. You have" She explained.

"W-what?" Ward stuttered, obviously still not fully awake.

"They don't let me go on missions anymore because they don't trust me…and it's your fault!" She insisted, sitting down in the chair, crossing her arms.

"I'm sure that's not true, they're probably just-" Ward started, but Kayla cut him off.

"You know Coulson and May think I'm working for Hydra. Yeah, they think that you recruited me or something. They're monitoring me most of the time" Kayla explained.

"I'm sorry" Ward sighed.

"Are your lame apologizes going to solve anything? Are they going to stop Simmons from hating me? Are they going to make me and Skye friends again? Are they going to make Fitz the way they are before?" Kayla questioned.

"No" Ward answered, having the decency to look down.

"Nothing you say will change anything" Kayla stated, making Ward remember when she said those same words when she found out he was Hydra.

"Why are you down here then?" Ward inquired.

"I don't know" She replied.

"Maybe you should hit me, it seems to make most people feel better" Ward suggested, and didn't miss the slight upturn of Kayla's mouth when he said it.

"I don't think so" Kayla said, shaking her head before she stood up and left the room.

The next day Kayla was watching Skye and May train because she literally had nothing better to do, when Mack and Hunter approached them.

"Pardon me. Uh, just one quick question. You both went to S.H.I.E.L.D. academy, right?" Hunter inquired.

"You didn't. If you did, you would have known better than to shoot us" May retorted.

"Apology number 470...I am very sorry, Agent May" Hunter insisted.

"Don't be sorry. Just wait" May stated, making Kay's blood run cold.

Wow, May could be scary as hell when she wanted to be, Kayla thought to herself.

"Uh, we just have a little wager. Uh, so, did you...?" Mack questioned.

"Go to the academy? Yeah, no" Skye answered.

"Same here, fellas" Kayla added.

"All right, well, have fun with the inventory. And remember, Koenig likes them neat. Oh, and, uh, none of those euro sevens with the lines through them. Drives him crazy" Mack said, with a smirk as he walked off.

"Coulson said you were a field agent with a badge and all" Hunter exclaimed, curious.

"More like a work-study thing. Badge, I had for like a day before S.H.I.E.L.D..." She trailed off, imitating an explosion.

"Did you get a badge?" Hunter asked Kayla.

"Nope, I wasn't worthy" Kayla informed him.

"You know, Hartley...she loved her blade, hated guns. Idaho...if on a job someone ended up dead, he'd go to church, light a candle. Said it'd balance the karma. See, I knew them, what they'd do, not do. So, us being workmates and all..." Hunter suggested.

"You're wondering if I've ever taken anyone out" Skye realised.

"Have you?" Hunter queried.

"Not that I know of" Skye replied.

"What about you Kayla?" Hunter questioned.

"No one with S.H.I.E.L.D" Kayla stated.

"So you killed before you came here?" Hunter inquired.

"Yep" Kayla answered.

"How many?" Hunter requested.

"I don't know…not that many" Kayla exclaimed, before shaking her head and walking away.

The truth was she did remember everyone she had killed. It had been in self defense every time but still it didn't make it much easier. Knowing that one minute someone was alive, and the next they were dead because of you was hard to process. She wondered if Ward ever felt remorse over his kills.
