"I have to admit I'm impressed with how well you've healed" Kara stated, as Ward continued pummeling the punch bag that he'd been hitting for the last twenty minutes.

"Get thrown off the horse, you have to get straight back on it" Ward insisted.

"Who are you imagining punching?" Kara questioned.

"S.H.I.E.L.D…Hydra…Coulson…the list is pretty much endless" Ward said, punching every time he said a word.

"I'm guessing Kayla's not on the list" Kara piped up, but got no reply from Ward.

"You were crying out her name again last night" Kara told him.

"Sorry" Ward shrugged.

"Are you still having the nightmares that something bad is happening to her?" Kara asked.

"I've had them for a long time" Ward admitted.

"How long did you guys go out for again?" Kara inquired, raising an eyebrow.

"Few weeks" Ward replied.

"Wow, she must have been really good in bed to leave such an impression" Kara suggested.

"Nope" Ward answered.

"Wait…so you and her never…why not?" Kara queried.

"We didn't want to" Ward divulged.

"Because? You obviously cared a lot about her" Kara insisted.

"I'm not interested in that" Ward admitted.

"In that?" Kara went on.

"You know" Ward said, giving her a pointed glare.

"Sex? Every man on the planet likes sex" Kara retorted.

"Not me" Ward sighed.

"Oh…did something…bad happen?" Kara realised, but got no reply.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to bring it up" Kara ranted.

"He used to…He used to make me sleep with these women…I had to be perfect…I thought…I thought it was part of the training…maybe…" Ward trailed off.

"Garrett? For how long?" Kara coaxed.

"Since I was 20…it sounds old…but I had been living in the woods for all that time…I didn't…I didn't want to do it…but they made me…" Ward stuttered.

"Ward, you don't have to go on" Kara insisted.

"And then…Lorelei happened" Ward went on.

"Who's that?" Kara inquired.

"She was an Asgardian. Mind control. She made me sleep with her…and…and it all came flooding back" Ward confessed.

"Oh, Ward. I'm so sorry" Kara said, genuinely.

"I've never told anyone that…not even…" Ward trailed off.

"Kayla?" Kara guessed.

"She was the only one who bothered after it happened…they all knew…I guess they just shrugged it off" Ward mumbled.

"Jesus" Kara sighed.

"You…you probably didn't want to hear all that" Ward stated.

"No, it's fine. Honestly, remember all the things I told you about Hydra. We can tell each other these things…How do you feel?" Kara questioned.

"Better" Ward replied, with a tiny smile.

It was a month later when a strange earthquake happened. Kayla instantly stood up, knowing something was wrong. Very wrong. It was then that the door to the vault was ripped open, and a man jumped down the stairs.

"Who are you?" Kayla questioned, as the strange man approached her.

"I'm sorry" The man announced, as he raised the hammer in his hand and started to try to break through the invisible wall.

Kayla jumped back, feeling the burning sensation that she would cause her to go into her shadow state. She knew that killing the man in front of her would definitely not help her situation, so she tried to stop it.

"Stop…stop, no" She mumbled, putting her hands to her head.

All of a sudden there was a loud bang, making Kayla's head shoot up.

"Fitz!" She exclaimed, seeing him holding a strange gun.

"Are you okay?" He inquired.

"Yeah…I-I'm okay" Kayla stuttered, as she felt the burning sensation starting to fade.

"You stopped yourself" Fitz realised.

"What's happening out there? What was that earthquake?" Kayla asked.

"It…it's Skye" Fitz replied.

"Skye? What's wrong? Has something happened to her?" Kayla queried.

"When you were down there…when the Obelisk opened…it changed her too…she has powers now" Fitz explained.

"What?" Kayla inquired, not able to believe it.

"I wanted to tell you but…Skye was so confused, she was worried that you'd-" Fitz was quickly cut off by Kayla.

"She said all those things to me…and she knew exactly how I felt?! She should have been helping me! And you! You knew, why didn't you tell me?" Kayla shouted.

"You wouldn't have kept it a secret" Fitz stated.

"So…you chose her, over me" Kayla mumbled.

"No, it's not like that" Fitz insisted.

"Then what is it like?! If they knew that I wasn't the only one like this, it could have helped me! Coulson might have let me out!" Kayla cried.

"I-I'm sorry…" Fitz trailed off.

"Just get out" Kayla told him.

"Kayla, I'm-" Fitz started, but was cut off again.

"Get out!" She screamed, startling him.

The next few days were not a good ones for her, her shadow state became erratic and her nightmares turned into full blown night terrors or at least that is what Fitz told her.

"I tried to come down here earlier to apologize but Coulson wouldn't let me" Fitz confessed.

"I'm sorry…for freaking out. Everything just gets a bit crazy in your head when you're down here" Kayla explained.

"Was someone down here last night?" Kayla asked, a moment later.

"Mack…I forgot to turn the audio off and you, uh…you started screaming, a night terror we think. Woke everyone up" Fitz divulged.

"Hmph, should do that more often" Kayla spat out.

"Are you still mad at me?" Fitz questioned.

"You're the only one I'm not mad at" Kayla admitted.

"You seem a bit clearer headed today" Fitz suggested.

"I have my good and bad days" Kayla shrugged.

"What's wrong? You look upset" Kayla said, a moment later.

"It's Jemma…she's completely ignoring me because I didn't tell her about Skye" Fitz exclaimed, as Kayla shook her head in response.

"…The reason that Coulson let me down here…please don't get mad…but it's because they want you to get a psych evaluation" Fitz announced.

"…What?" Kayla inquired.

"I know, I know. You'll probably really angry but-" Fitz started but Kayla cut her off.

"Why am I getting one now?" Kayla queried.

"Well he's coming to look at Skye…and I guess they thought it would be good for him to see you too" Fitz told her.

"You know everyone on the gifted index has to get a psych eval. I did when I first got here. Every time a new power pops up you have to get one. Except if you are me of course" Kayla stated, bitterly.
