A/N:
@Kurosaki Yukia: They'll show up in the later chapters.
@Xieloviere 27: I feel you. It's one of the reasons why I'm me now. I stopped caring and started to complain instead of playing it cool though. Don't bottle them for too long. You won't like the end result of it.
Anyways, here's another chapter. But my warning is still up so don't get our hopes high. Onwards.
Chapter Thirteen
"Oi Reborn!" Colonnello called out to the walking hitman.
Reborn looked back to the marksman from his shoulder. "What?"
"Did you see Tsuna, kora? He's not inside the academy." Colonnello asked.
"Why ask me? I'm not his guardian." Reborn answered before walking away, making Colonnello's jaw drop.
"Kora! Reborn! What's with that attitude?!"
The hitman didn't say a thing. Colonnello pulled his rifle from his back and fired at Reborn. The hitman dodged and faced the rain arcobaleno who is sporting an angry look. The black demon barely had a time to dodge when the blond went on rampage shooting. A gun materialized on the hitman's hand and started to retaliate.
The school ground they made as their battleground were left with craters, scorch marks and bulletholes. The two started to have a hand to hand combat, properties of their auras are used. Whenever Colonnello uses his rain to calm Reborn and make him sluggish, the other counter it with full activism. When the hitman touches something from the marksman, it becomes a bruise that the latter had to slow it down.
This continued on that made the student of Saint Academy scared. No one could stop them, not even the other arcobalenos or the higher ups. Hibari knew when not to interfere. He can feel the anger of both demons but with different reason. He wonders what are those.
"What the fucking hell are you doing?"
The two halted, petrified with the voice filled with disappointment and coldness. They snapped their heads to Tsuna who is walking towards them, amber eyes glaring with anger. The brunet looked so intimidating. His aura isn't flaring. Not even showing an amount, but that doesn't mean his presence is not announced. The atmosphere is even getting colder.
"I just left for one fucking hour and this happen." Tsuna muttered under his breathe. "Fix this."
"You're not the boss of me." Reborn snapped.
Tsuna's brow quirked up. "Oh? Then get away from here. Don't show yourself in Mundane."
"Who are you-"
"I am Tsunayoshi Sawada. And I don't fucking care if you're a demon. Get out of my sight." Tsuna clipped before giving his attention to Colonnello. "Any words."
The blond shook his head, terrified with the amber eyes that penetrates him hard.
"Good. Follow. We need to do something for those damages." And the brunet went on.
"W-Wait! Tsuna! What about Reborn?!"
"He can do the hell he wants. He wants to fuck the world? Go fuck hell!" Tsuna answered.
Reborn was left there, standing with frustration. On the other hand, Tsuna let his tears stream down his cheeks. Both didn't know why they feel so frustrated with each other. And Colonnello is their only witness.
Tsuna brushed the scorch mark on the ground before spraying it with the liquid Verde gave them. Colonnello is near him, doing the same thing, as well as Skull who volunteered to help.
Colonnello discreetly glanced at Tsuna. The brunet is silent. Not even saying anything playful, a joke or a small trivia they'll argue among themselves. He wasn't himself these past days. He was always wearing this frown in his face and his smiles falter after seconds of showing them.
Skull looked at Colonnello who glanced at him too. Both nodded their heads in agreement. Other than Reborn, Tsuna got closer with the whole lot of them. The brunet is shy about saying his feelings, but with the right words, he'll give in.
"Tsuna." Colonnello called softly.
"Hmm?" The brunet hummed in response.
"Did something happen?" The rain asked.
Tsuna peered at them by the corner of his eyes before smiling. "Nothing happened."
"Tsuna." Skull coaxed. "You can tell us anything. We won't judge."
The brunet winced before teasingly smiled. "You two are ganging up on me."
"You're our favorite human. If it won't be us, Lal will torture you, Viper and Verde will combine their forces to enter your mind and Fon will just do the same as us. Just not as persistent, but super guilt-tripping with his worried expression." Skull reasoned out.
Resigned, Tsuna sat on the newly grown grass and sighed. "I went out early this morning to receive a personal letter that I have to attend an annual meeting."
"Meeting?" Colonnello asked, waiting for the right moment to ask what the main reason of his interrogation.
"I'm a recommendation, remember? Those people who recommended me told me that I have a chance of inheriting this big company whatever."
"What company?"
Tsuna grimaced. "Vongola."
"Woah." Both demons exclaimed.
"They are gathering all the people they thought have sky auras. And I'm one of them. Surprisingly, Ganauche was able to detect this and recommended me, that's why I'm in here, studying the things I already know."
"When is it?" Skull asked.
"Three days from now." Tsuna sighed. "I don't even care how'll they react with this new development I have. I just don't want to deal with the headache they'll give me."
"Is that the reason why you lashed out on us?" Colonnello asked tentatively.
Tsuna's eyes widened in shock. "No! I'll never do that! I always have my tempers checked, Colonnello. I'll never do that to a friend."
"But you were so angry with Reborn." The rain pointed out, seconded by Skull.
"I wasn't." Tsuna's voice cracked and he looked away for them to not see the hurt in his eyes. "I wasn't."
"Did something happen between you two?" Skull asked.
Tsuna sighed miserably. "I explained to him why I never take those classes that never interested me and he suddenly became distant."
"What did you say exactly?" The cloud asked again, curious.
"I told him that I did those because I wanted to make Ganauche regret what he did. Regret taking me away from my home."
Both demons looked at each other, minds piecing things before returning their gazes to the stoic yet noticeably sad brunet.
"I think Reborn thought that you regretted meeting us." Skull said slowly.
Tsuna's head snapped to them. "Eh?"
"Reborn is a paranoid fellow. He'll think of all this kinds of things. Overthinking and jumping to conclusions. Not that bad. But when he thinks it's fine and you don't want him, he'll distance himself from you." Colonnello elaborated.
Tsuna paled.
"But did you really mean that?" Skull asked in a sad voice. "Do you regret having us?"
"N-No! Oh God! No, Skull! I will never regret being friends with you!" Tears fell down from the young man's eyes, body trembling with so much emotions. "What I regret is not telling him, you, how I'm also thankful about this situation. God. You people are the best things that happened to me. If I wasn't sent here, I won't meet Kyouya and Hana-chan. Or all of you and Reborn. Or the fishes in the lake. Or even Nezu-sensei. God. I'm so sorry. I should've clarified it that I just want Ganauche to regret because I'm mad at him for making me promise to my mom that I'll come back with a title. But I didn't regret meeting all of you."
"Shh." Colonnello cooed as he gathered the devastated brunet in his arms and hugged him tight to comfort. "It's okay. We understand."
"I'm sorry." Tsuna sobbed, hugging the rain tight.
On the other side of the world, Fon is staring at Reborn who is drinking water on his mug. The hitman is really cranky these days that he's the only one who can tolerate it. The black demon had been doing rampages in unannounced time. Viper doesn't really care as long as their money doesn't get spend on repairs. Fon could only sigh.
Colonnello and Skull had asked him to talk to Reborn. The former told him what happened in the academy. Reborn's uncharacteristically dismissing that he cares about Tsuna, and Tsuna being angry on Reborn to the point that he cut off the hitman and ordered him to go back to Fiant. Colonnello told him how Tsuna cried while walking away, obviously frustrated with Reborn. So he wants to know what happened to the hitman too.
"Reborn." Fon called as he put a cup of tea in front of the black demon and removed the mug of water. "Water doesn't suit you."
"Thanks." Reborn said softly, sighing in relief.
Fon sat down across him. "I heard what happened."
"Which one?"
"Tsuna ordering you to go back here in Fiant." The hitman didn't respond. "Reborn. You know how frail human's feelings are, right?"
"Tsuna is strong."
"How strong is he to be separated from you, or even take your words?" Fon curiously wondered. "He was pretty homesick for almost three years. He wasn't even taking summons because of insecurities-"
"What?!"
"-and when he says he doesn't care or mind, he really does. I mean have you seen how he stares at his vandalized door, how his eyes looks away when he hears his peers saying things about him?"
"What the hell, Fon."
"Reborn." Fon said with stern, eyes flashing red with reprimand. "You know yourself that you jump to conclusion. Have you asked him things? Of why he said something that made you this angry to him?"
"He wants to go home!" Reborn scowled. "And he wants that exorcist who recommended him to regret putting him there! What am I suppose to feel about that?!"
"Have you heard him say that he regretted meeting you?" The hitman clammed up. "You jump to conclusion too much. Tsuna is not that low to say something like that. Reborn, he treasures you too much that he worries about your health in the Mundane world."
"He doesn't care."
"Colonnello told me that Tsuna cried after he lashed out on you. He was frustrated. If I know, he didn't go back to his room three days ago because he doesn't want to feel your cold shoulder." Fon watched as the hitman looked guilty.
"I need to go." Reborn said as he stood up.
Fon stared at him. "I'd rather not. You'll only hurt him more."
Reborn depleted. "Damn it."
"Kora!"
Fon looked at the front doorway when the door slammed opened. Colonnello walked in with all his dirty glory. His hair is disheveled and his shirt is wet a little. But he looks happy and... Relieved.
"Ah! Reborn, Kora! Come with me!" Colonnello said as he stalked towards the hitman.
Reborn looked at him impassively. "I don't want to."
"Heh." The rain took the other's arm and they disappeared.
Fon followed, tracing their auras and they arrived in front of Tsuna's room. The storm cringed as the heaviness of the sky aura. It's full of sadness and self-hate. The aura itself is so powerful that it affects the environment. The halls are dark, the sky is cloudy, even the living things look depleted.
He watched as Skull opened the door and stepped out. Colonnello pushed Reborn inside, then closed the door surely on the latter's face. Viper passed through the wall, before he put his mark on the door. The room was suddenly painted with indigo color, indicating that Viper put his own barrier he usually uses on his treasures on the room.
"What are you planning?" Fon asked.
"We put Tsuna and Reborn there." Colonnello answered cheekily. "It's about time those two talk again. They haven't share the same bed since three days ago."
Skull spluttered and went red.
"Mou. I hope this works. Tsunayoshi is not profitable when crying." Viper said before vanishing.
"I'll stay here." Skull volunteered as he sat down on the floor. "I want to make sure Tsuna is okay."
"Well, the sky isn't really getting okay any time now." Fon stated before plopping beside the cloud. "So I'll stay with you too."
"Then let's camp out here. Who wants to play poker without any chips, kora?" Colonnello said as he sat in front of them.
"I do!" Skull enthusiastically answered. Fon just smiled.
Tsuna hugged his pillow tight as he cried silently. It hurts. His heart prickled with the familiar feeling of rejection. All his life, he was rejected. The only ones who accept him are his family. No one acknowledges his reasons, feelings and actions. No wonder he became like this. Dangerous, rebellious, stubborn. He became a devil himself, like how his peers described him.
At four, he was called a girl for being fluffier and cute. He didn't mind. As long as his kaasan, tousan and Jii-jii is okay with him being cute, he's okay.
At age five, he was called a nerd for reading thick books. But it was his and his grandfather's little hobby. They read to have fun. But they said he's too smart-ass.
At six years old, he was called Dame-Tsuna. He doesn't know. He really doesn't. He didn't trip on his own feet, they do it to him. He didn't burn his book, or soak them to water, or even lose his homeworks. He is not useless in cleaning their room. He was competent enough to do those without anyone to help him.
At age seven, he started to gain bullies. And he doesn't know how to deal with it because he was taught to act like them, be human, and pity those people who can't do things in their lives.
At age eight, he saved a demon from being attacked. He earned freaky-Tsuna by then for his strange abilities. And he became isolated.
At age nine, he got physically beaten by his peers. He learned that he needs to defend himself, so he did. He asked his father and grandfather to teach him the ropes. They did, and indulged him more.
From age nine to fifteen, he became notorious on defending the weak, the abused, and the beaten humans and demons alike. He become the defender and the outlaw.
After middle school, his family was advised to make him stay at home, probably hire some home school teacher. His parents agreed, not because they thought it was the best for the situation, but because it was the best for him. They were understanding enough to know what his predicament. And instead of hiring teachers, his grandfather made him read all kinds of textbooks used in different high schools.
And when he just became nineteen, Ganauche entered his life and made him go to Saint Academy.
From nineteen to twenty-one, he became the academy's delinquent, on par with the demon prefect, as bright as Kurokawa and as dominating like the headmaster.
But they didn't know what he felt. Ganauche didn't know what he felt when he was taken from there. They didn't know how scared he was when he entered the Academy. Being judged again, targeted again, bullied again. He was traumatized. But no one knows that. Because they never knew his reasons, feelings and the implications of his actions.
Tsuna's eyes snapped open when he felt his blanket being tugged. He tightened his grip. But he knew that feeling emotional makes him weak. No wonder he lost in that small tug of war. His breathe hitched when he saw Reborn on the other side. The black demon is sporting a surprised look, eyes surveying his face. The brunet took that moment to take the cover, pull it over his head and lay flat on his stomach. He didn't expect another alternative to pull him out.
He suddenly felt his lower getting naked. Warm hands clasped around his both ankles and he was pulled from the bed. He struggled, hands quickly holding on the thin pillars of the headboard. But he was exhausted, so he unconsciously let go.
Reborn flipped him on his back and stared at him. Tsuna let out an uncontrollable sob as tears streamed down his cheeks. Three days. He missed him for three days out of misunderstanding. He even lashed out on him and he... He ordered him... Told him to go back to Fiant and never show himself in his face.
Tsuna went to his side and curled. He felt so naked to the world. Vulnerable. But this room is his sanctuary. His only safety from all the people in the academy. No one can touch him here.
"Tsuna." Reborn called out. "Hey. Don't cry."
The brunet let out a sob before going on fours and crawled his way back to his covers.
"Tsuna."
"Just let me cry." He sobbed out as he buried his face on the piilow. "I want to be weak for just once."
Tsuna felt the other side dip. He was laid on his back again before being scoped up and placed on the demon's laps. He hiccuped and cried harder. Reborn's 'shhh' made him hug the man and cry on his chest.
They stayed like that for so long. Tsuna never knew what time is it, or why he hasn't slept yet after a long hour of crying. He was crying even before Colonnello put him on Skull's protection to go somewhere. The cloud has a good shoulder to cry on though.
"You okay?" Reborn asked softly. Tsuna nodded. "Can I ask you why you cried, Tsuna?"
"It's nothing." The brunet answered in a little voice. He felt like six again, keeping secrets from his family just to not make them worry. He remembers not looking at them in the eye, and using that small, fragile voice. "Nothing."
"Tsuna." Reborn cupped his chin and tipped it upward so they could see eye to eye. "Don't lie to me. Please."
Tsuna bit his lip before sighing. "I'm sorry."
"What for?"
"For not clarifying what I meant. I was angry about Ganauche. I wanted him to regret. But I didn't mean I'm regretting having you. You know how much I like you, right? I will never feel regret of having you in my life."
"But you didn't want to go here in Saint."
Tsuna eyed the demon. "If ever I didn't go here, we will be able to see each other in another circumstance. Different place, different time."
Reborn smiled. "You're optimistic."
"Because I like you. I don't want to part from you. I want to be by your side, be able to be of your help and at least make you smile if I can and if you still want me."
"I'm sorry too. I could've at least asked if you meant it that way. It was bad of me to jump in a conclusion."
Tsuna hugged the hitman tight. "I understand. It was my fault in the first place."
"No. It was mine."
Tsuna chuckled. "Let say it's our fault."
"Hmm... I like it that way."
Reborn took a tight hold on him then stood up. The hitman went in the bathroom. He put Tsuna in front of the sink. The brunet turned on the faucet and washed his face. He sighed in relief after, surely feeling refreshed.
"How long did you cry?" Reborn asked.
Tsuna looked at him by the mirror. "Four? I don't really know. After we patched up your battlefield, Colonnello and Skull talked to me. Colonnello made me cry on him for an hour or so, then Skull."
"Did you cry when..."
"I lashed on you? Yeah." Tsuna smiled shyly. "I got frustrated. It was dramatic of me."
"No. It's okay." Reborn neared him and ruffled his hair. "Next time, let's clear out the issue before we sleep. Not that I want another fight from you."
"Yeah. It hurts in here." Tsuna said with a point to his heart before beaming again. He really likes being carefree when Reborn is with him. "But it's okay. They said that by fighting, one another can see the differences of each other and get to know them much deeper as the misunderstanding gets solved."
Tsuna blushed when Reborn hugged him. He can see themselves in the mirror. They looked... He flushed redder and buried himself in the other's shoulder, glancing at the mirror at sometime.
"Let's go to bed?" Reborn asked.
Tsuna looked at him in surprise. "You'll sleep with me tonight?"
"Why not? I like to sleep with my teddy bear tonight."
Tsuna smiled cheekily. "Sure, human sized heater of mine."
Tsuna laughed when Reborn tried to squeeze him harder. He really likes being with Reborn. Always with him.
