"Hello, my name is Andrew Garner" The man announced, as he pulled up a chair near to the invisible wall, but got no response from Kayla.
"I suppose the first thing we should talk about really are you powers. How are you coping with them?" Garner inquired.
"Fine" Kayla replied.
"Can you elaborate?" Garner asked.
"I have more control over them" Kayla stated.
"But you're not in control of them" Garner suggested.
"I'm getting better" Kayla insisted.
"Getting better from what? Do you feel these new powers are a sickness?" Garner questioned.
"No" Kayla said, quickly.
"How about you're other powers? Healing and telekinesis?" Garner questioned.
In response, Kayla tore of the tips of the plastic fork she had been given and started to slice her arm with it.
"Stop! What are you doing?" Garner shouted, shocked.
"Giving you a demonstration…see, much better. My healing time has doubled" Kayla informed him, a slightly crazy look in her eyes.
"Since when?" Garner inquired.
"Since I've been down here" Kayla answered.
"Have you been hurting yourself?" Garner suggested.
"I've been making myself better. I heal quicker" Kayla insisted.
"Okay, let's get straight down to business. Do you have suicidal thoughts?" Garner asked.
"I can't die" Kayla retorted.
"But if you could…would you want to?" Garner queried.
"Yes…anything it better than being locked up down here" Kayla admitted, as Garner scribbled something down.
"Let's talk about the team. How do you feel about Leo Fitz? He has been coming down here a lot" Garner announced.
"He's my friend" Kayla told him.
"Do you feel that you have any other friends?" Garner questioned.
"Has anyone else come to visit me?" Kayla retorted.
"How about Skye?" Garner asked.
"She hates me. You can't really make much of a friendship from that" Kayla explained.
"Why do you think that?" Garner went on.
"She told me I was a monster" Kayla stated.
"Do you think you are?" Garner examined.
"I can kill someone just by touching them when I turn into my shadow state…I think that clarifies what I am" Kayla spat out.
"Okay, how about Simmons?" Garner drawled.
"She hates me as well. Fitz said she's making weapons to take down people like me. She's probably looking for a way to kill me…permanently" Kayla exclaimed.
"How about Coulson?" Garner insisted.
"Oh, I hate him. Big time" Kayla confessed.
"You feel angry towards him?" Garner clarified.
"I suppose you would analyze it as me wanting someone to blame, but he's screwed me over enough times for my hate to be justified" Kayla assured him.
"How?" Garner went on.
"He shot me in the head…I think that's enough" Kayla grimaced.
"Are we going to ignore May because she's your ex?" Kayla smirked, a moment later.
"How'd you figure it out?" Garner inquired.
"I recognized your name. I've never particularly liked May and she's never particularly liked me. That's all there is to it" Kayla shrugged.
"Alright, how about Grant Ward?" Garner questioned.
"…What? He's not part of the team" Kayla stated.
"He used to be. You two have a rather complicated history" Garner exclaimed, but got no response from Kayla.
"Okay, we'll continue this session tomorrow" Garner announced, standing up.
He went to turn the lights off in the room, when he heard a cry from Kayla.
"Coulson wanted me to turn them off when I left. You have to get 6 hours with lights out a day. Human rights" Garner explained.
"Just leave them on…please" Kayla begged, as Garner did with a nod.
It was only a few hours later when the whole base went on high alert when objects throughout the place started to lift into the air. Even things like tables and wardrobes started to elevate as Garner, Coulson and Fitz all charged into Kayla's vault, knowing she would be the culprit. They were surprised to find her on her bed, letting out small cry's and fisting her hands into her sheets, obviously having a nightmare.
"Kayla! Kayla, wake up. It's me Fitz" Fitz shouted, as they turned the audio on.
Kayla woke up with a gasp, and started looking around frantically in the room. The objects throughout the base, quickly dropped, causing a large amount of damage in some areas.
"Hey, it's okay. It's me. You were having a nightmare" Fitz told her, putting his hand to the wall, obviously wanting to comfort her.
Fitz stayed with her for the next hour, after she had scurried across the room to sit on the other side of the invisible wall. Coulson had ordered him out, Fitz reluctantly did so when Garner informed him he would stay.
"What were you dreaming about?" Garner asked.
"I don't remember" Kayla replied.
"You're seeming defensive" Garner examined.
"I just don't remember" Kayla insisted.
"Whatever you were feeling was enough to cause every object in this base to rise…it must have been something pretty big" Garner suggested.
"It might help if you talk about it" Garner told her.
"Do you have to tell Coulson and the others what I tell you?" Kayla questioned.
"No" Garner shook his head.
"…It was about Ward" Kayla confessed.
"What was it about?" Garner asked.
"I don't know if he's alive" Kayla informed him.
"Your nightmare was about the fact that he might be dead, but you don't even know" Garner realised.
"Do you know?" Kayla queried, making eye contact for the first time.
"I don't" Garner replied, as Kayla looked disappointed.
"How would you feel if he was dead?" Garner insisted.
"Guilty" Kayla confessed.
"Why? From what I've heard he's the one who should feel guilty" Garner suggested.
"I left him to die…I shouldn't have left him…" Kayla trailed off.
"Are you still in love with Grant Ward?" Garner questioned, a moment later.
"No" Kayla stated.
"You said that a little too quickly to be true" Garner told her.
"…I don't know…I don't know how I feel…I haven't for a long time" Kayla admitted.
"I have something for you…I thought it might make you feel better" Garner announced, taking out what looked like a picture from his pocket.
"What is it?" Kayla queried.
"It's a picture of you and Mr. Ward, quite hard to find actually" He chuckled to himself.
Kayla walked over to the invisible wall, and saw the picture. She remembered it wasn't that long before his betrayal, they had just gotten together. She had forced him to take a selfie with her, and had managed to capture one of his rare smiles. They both looked ridiculously happy.
"I'll sneak it in to you tonight when your food comes" He explained.
"How are you going to manage that?" She inquired, raising an eyebrow.
"I've been doing a bit of free counseling around here, some people owe me favors" He grinned.
"Why are you doing this for me? You don't owe me any favors" Kayla stated.
"No, but I don't like seeing anyone so depressed and closed in as you" He replied.
"…Thank you" She nodded, a moment later.
Author's Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! I always liked Andrew, but of course the moment he started disagreeing with Coulson they turned him into a monster. I think they killed him as well, but I had stopped watching by that time. Please leave a review:)
Secret-writer91: My thoughts exactly. Oh, and I thought I would say I've started reading one of your older fics, it looks really good!
Subakun-sensei: That's okay, thank you for reviewing!
PrewalShadeX: Thank you! Well I'm quite far ahead with this story now, and she still hasn't been accepted, in fact it probably just gets worse tbh, haha. I'm hoping by the end, the team will be able to sort out all their problems though…somehow.
